Fantastic service. Fixed a complicated problem that impacted the handshake between the thermostat control panel and the electric heat pump. Not sure what caused it after 11 years, but it occurred after electrical work on another project that may have resulted in a re-set. The system heat pump would come on and cool, but when the temp setting was reached it would shut off, but the fan would still run blowing room temp air. House would warm, cooling would come back on - repeat 24/7. The tech did not have direct experience with our system, but he wouldn't give in. He went thru the original control panel installation instructions page by page until he figured it out. The details are complicated, but suffice it to say no problems in operation remain. The tech (wish I could remember his name) just would not give in to a funky original installation and kept me informed during the couple hours and 10 trips up and down our stairs it took him to diagnose and figure out how to get it to work correctly. Their response was great - got a tech to us in a day. I will definitely use them as my go-to geothermal company.

North American GeoThermal and their team were stellar - professional, timely, reasonable cost, disciplined, courteous, and stuck with the agreed scope of the project. Their follow-up on all items of work was complete and well done. Their follow-up maintenance on the water furnace has been simple and very reasonable costs. This is THE geothermal company you want to choose for your property. The installation involved a vertical loop geothermal system for my 5000 sf home to replace an oil furnace. Since the work was done in 2015, I've had all of the projected cost savings expected. Now my home that was built in 1970's has uniform heat and cooling in all of the rooms throughout the year at a fraction of what the cost used to be. I highly recommend Richard and the North American GeoThermal team for your geothermal system.

We worked with Paul who is an excellent communicator and answered all our questions as we decided go through with replacing our existing 3 air source heat pump systems (3 ton + 3 ton + 1.5 ton) with 2 geothermal systems (5 ton + 3 ton). At our request, he combined two systems into one and provided us several different scenarios of pricing while noting the pro's and con's of each. I was pleased with the transparency of the process. The cost of service was all-inclusive: drilling 4 x 320' bore holes, permits, equipment (Waterfurnace 7 Series 5-ton and Waterfurnace 5 Series 3-ton), related add-ons and accessories, installation including removal of old systems, and substantial work to combine two systems into one. We are pleased with the systems (they went live in July) and it has made the home much more comfortable. There were no surprises or deviations from the contract with N. American Geothermal and the billing process, done on a milestone basis, was clear and straightforward. A's across the board, one B given for punctuality because in the final stages of install, it took some additional time for N. American to get their subcontractors all coordinated. The geothermal technology itself is great for a variety of reasons and we were happy to have N. American Geothermal install it for us.

We looked into a geothermal system after we decided to replace our oil-burning furnace in late 2016; gas is available on our street but because of our 100+ foot setback was expense to access. We looked into an air-sourced heat pumps but it has relatively high operating costs, especially in the winter. Geothermal looked too good to be true but did a ton of research and asked traditional HVAC companies their opinions (figured they’d have an incentive to layout the potential negatives) and the only downside we could find was the high installation cost. We contacted at least four companies and North American beat them all on cost and professionalism; plus geothermal is all they do and that was reflected in the knowledge and explanation of the process. We have had the system for more than a year and a half (two winters and coming up on our second summer) and it really is great! The promotional material lives up its hype: it is more comfortable, quieter, and cheaper to operate than a traditional HVAC. Because it is so efficient, you set your upper and lower temperatures limits and essentially walk away. North American’s post-purchase service has also been prompt and professional. A geothermal system is a big investment but think it is worth it from the perspective of recouping the upfront cost through efficiency, home value, and—most important—comfort.

The service was a complete package including permits, drilling and installing ground loops, removal of the old HVAC, the water furnace heat pump system, connecting the furnace to the duct system, modifications to electrical panel, installing and connecting water furnace, removal and re-installation of neighbor's fence, and repair of damage to my lawn and neighbor's lawn. I did not have to contract separately with any of the partner contractors myself, which made life immensely easier. Each aspect of the project, such as drilling, had its own team and they were all highly professional, competent and friendly. The process took a few weeks due to restricted access to our yard, but most of the work was outside and didn't require us to be at home. The system takes up less space than our old HVAC and has worked very quietly and comfortably for the past year. The yard now shows no sign of ever having been disturbed. The company representatives were very patient with my many questions during what was an extensive due diligence process on my part prior to choosing geothermal for our new HVAC system. Since installation, our heating and cooling costs have fallen quite a bit (though not 75%) and I will try to update this later with some numbers once we have more billing cycles to compare. Now that I've seen what goes into the installation I would have to say the price is very good in terms of what the company does, though of course the buyer's payback on such a system will take a while. (We crunched the numbers ourselves very carefully on this.) The energy tax credit is very helpful in that regard. We think it will be worth the expense given the energy savings and typical reliability and longevity of ground loop systems. There do not seem to be many companies in this area that provide this service, the others that I talked to either did not have the right equipment to do an installation in our small yard or would have required me to contract separately with the drillers.

North American traditionally provides one stop shopping for the installation of a geothermal system. In other words the client signs one contract with one total bill for drilling, electrical contracting, energy assessment and equipment procurement and installation....in doing so North American effectively manages the whole project (all the scheduling, drilling, mechanical and electrical work). However, this one stop shopping does add cost to the overall project because they provide additional insurances for unplanned or unforecasted events that may or may not occur with drilling, electrical, etc. These events may or may not be costly to resolve in order to complete the project. Not all vendors provide that sort of convenience of one stop shopping. Second opinions from electricians and drillers helped to educate me in managing this project. After receiving several quotes from local vendors, I was able to break down all costs (electrical phase, drilling phase, mechanical phase (equipment procurement and installation)) and then compare "apples to apples" for all vendors (equipment and services). North American did not prefer this sort of project development and execution, however, they did allow me to break up project and manage it on my own. I used their recommended/preferred drilling company and electrician to ensure the most effective and efficient means of expectations by all parties. North American salesmen and installation technicians were all very professional, very informed and prompt. However, I found North American's "blackboard" (internet means of communications for any and all correspondence) after the contract was signed to be less than satisfactory. I used the "blackboard" to communicate concerns, ask questions and confirm certain items / schedule as promised during the contracting process. I found responses on average would take up to two or more days forcing me to follow-up with either a telephone call or another posting on the "blackboard". I found North American's primary point of contact for customer service and scheduling to be less than receptive or informed to some questions or would speak out of turn / on top of the customer especially during one telephone conversation where the customer was simply trying to confirm a process. I found this same point of contact to be less than prepared to discuss my project and sometimes stated some inaccuracies to the project either due to poor documentation or poor notes filed away for the project. Lastly, North American failed to show for one appointment to complete the walk through and final installation of one component. It was subsequently re-scheduled. Again, I cannot say enough great things about the sales and installation staff for North American. My recommendation for this company fell from a rating of an "A" down to a "B+" as a result of the customer service as discussed above. Aside from that, I would work with North American again, if I intend to install another geothermal system. I have recommended this company to a close friend as the only company to work with in the local area for geothermal systems. North American deals only in geothermal systems and makes them the market leader for geothermal systems as opposed to most of the other vendors in the local market who work a variety of different (conventional, hybrid, geothermal, etc) systems which detracts from their ability to be subject matter experts in geothermal technology, systems and operation. And lastly, despite breaking up the contract to save some money on this large "do it yourself" project, North American's first estimate (inclusive of all of the insurances for unplanned events / expenses) was still very competitive within the group of six estimates that I collected for this project.
Description of Work: North American provided the equipment (Water Furnace brand) and installed the units to heat and cool the home.

There were a few problems that we had. Compared to the other one it's better. The geothermal system works fine. There were some landscaping things that they had to tear up in our yard and they didn't get it back to were we wanted it without a couple of visits. They didn't obey the schedule as they told us sometimes by several days. It was a complicated operation and I can understand that. We didn't object at the time, but it was a somewhat inconvenience. They were always available to talk. Sometimes they were ahead of schedule. I hope that we don't have to do this again, They would be our first choice.

They are absolutely a superb company. I like them a lot, and there is nothing to dislike. They are very thorough, they talk things through, and they are very responsive. It is a pleasure working with them, and they do a good job. They answer any type of questions, they get back to you quickly, and if they have a problem, they solve it quickly. I had a problem installing the system because of the location of my house, and they did it diligently. They check up and I haven't had to pay anything for maintenance. This is partly because of the unit being Geothermal. It does not require a whole lot of maintenance.

Punctual, communicated well. Had a few snags drilling, so completed a few days late. Put us in a hotel the one night that the home smelled from pipe glue. Repaired the lawn to (mostly) it's original state. Reimbursed us for two broken sprinkler heads. Overall, they were a pleasure to work with, did what they said that they were going to do, and communicated well through the process. I highly recommend installing a geothermal system to have better air quality throughout the house, a quiet system, half the carbon footprint and less maintenance. I highly recommend North American Geothermal to perform this service.

The entire experience with North American Geothermal was incredibly positive. From the initial consultation through to the final debrief on how to use the system, Norther American Geothermal and their team did exactly as promised for the exact price quoted. After burning through nearly 1000 gallons of oil (not to mention the second floor heat pump electric bill) last winter, we knew we needed to install a more efficient heating and cooling system in our new-to-us home. Despite the higher upfront cost, we decided to make the move to geothermal and reached out to North American Geothermal and one other provider. Early on, it was clear we wanted to work with Paul, Mark, Richard and Brandon of North American. From the initial consultation, to the quote, to the manual J, they walked us through every step and answered all our questions. After signing the contract it was several weeks until drilling began and another week or so to be hooked up and running. Through out the entire process there was excellent communication and attention to detail, and any questions or concerns were quickly addressed. A few things that made the experience stand out for us: ~ Genuinely nice people who believe in their product and stand behind it. ~ No surprises. The job was done for the price quoted in the time quoted. ~ The job site was left clean and safe every day. ~ Small requests, like patching the brick where the oil fill pipe was removed from the wall, were done without hesitation or extra cost. ~ Great communication, including advanced warning of when to expect people at the house and daily phone call wrap up reports. ~ A referral to a bank offering an 18-month "same as cash" loan equivalent to the 30% tax credit that was applied directly to the installation costs. The bottom line is, if you are considering installing a geothermal system in your home or business, North American should be on your short list of companies to consider. They are highly professional, have excellent customer service, and will do what they say they will do.

Provider was very good. After the initial review of the project, they very quickly proceeded to get all necessary permits, schedule the work and install the system. It was a multistage process, as we first replaced my existing HVAC unit in the house and then installed the loop field necessary for the GeoThermal system to work. Despite a challenging property, they did an excellent job and I am very happy with this system.

Overall, the experience has been very positive to this point in the process. What is immediately obvious is that these guys believe in their systems and are incredibly knowledgeable. The pre-meeting was very professional. They knew this was a tough decision, as we had gotten other quotes and were deciding between a high-end gas system and the geothermal system. No pressure and all information given. They provided references, which we followed-up with. We explained the limited concerns given by others (small are of sinking grass) to Richard and Paul, who accepted things as is and explained what they had done in each case. Once we signed a contract we were provided with an easy communication system. They came, did a manual J on the house, which was well worth everything. During the walk through we discussed the basement and they developed a plan to handle the air flow between rooms and the addition of a vent in the basement. Drilling was done in about a day and a half for drilling, and then the connecting to the house and system test were two other days. It was loud and noisy for the drilling, and the people who came were very professional and explained everything. Did not bother the neighbors at all, either. The inside crew was the same. Very efficient, constantly checking up on things, moved items around carefully and replaced everything without a concern. Overall, the drilling and installation phases went very well. After the system was checked, it was time to use the system. Of course, the first couple of days of the system use was the coldest it has been in years. The house was kind of cold and we called Paul. They came over on the coldest day of the year and spent time adjusting the dampers (the air speed was causing one to close completely) and vents to make things comfortable in the house. That was above and beyond the call of duty. In addition, the couple of days before the system was fully installed, we needed to be on back up heat (quite a lot of electricity used) and received a high electricity bill. Well, the company sent us a check to offset the cost since they felt it was not our fault we had to be on backup. That was a great gesture. Overall, we are a couple months into the system and learning how to adjust the temperature on all three levels to make things comfortable. We feel very good about our decision to do this and with only one more step (grass replacement) to go, we look forward to saving a lot of money for years to come!

After researching my options for a new furnace, I decided to go down the path of a geothermal heat-pump. The engineer in me loves the technology and it's so much more efficient than a standard heat-pump. It's a big project. It entailed drilling two 225 foot wells in my front yard, and a big trench under the front porch to get the pipes into the house. I'm thrilled with the results. We've been running since March 2013 and based on my electric bills, it is going to cost fewer than $700 to both heat and cool the house for the entire year. Fantastic technology, and the federal tax credit helped reduce the cost of the project by over $8000. The guys were great, no complaints whatsoever. Go for it!

The project went very smoothly and the results are excellent. Richard Lay and Paul DeBoeck did a thorough and patient job of explaining what they do, how switching to geothermal would benefit us, how our project would go, and answering a multitude of questions. Their price matched our expectations based on our research and there were no additional costs. The savings they projected for us are quite large, more than sufficient to justify the large cost of geothermal, and are being borne out by our operating costs so far. Through the spring it cost about $1.10/day to heat and cool the house. During the current heat wave of temperatures in the '90's with high humidity, our operating costs have risen to about $2/day. The geothermal system provides more even temperatures and more even humidity control throughout the house. Dominion Geothermal made sure that we had heat for all but 4 hours during construction. They were very respectful of our property and our neighbors' property--our neighbors graciously let us bring heavy equipment over their driveway so that two 350 foot deep wells could be drilled in our backyard for the geothermal loop field. The drilling generates massive amounts of mud and Dominion regularly power washed the neighbors' driveway. Dominion Geothermal took great care to install the system properly and then adjust it carefully to deliver the promised performance in our house. They delivered what they promised (with the minor exception of substituting materials acceptable to me for ones no longer available for closing the sunroom wall). They regraded and reseeded the back yard. The casual observer would probably not realize that the back yard had recently been dug up so extensively, but might wonder where the air conditioning condenser went and why our back yard is so quiet!
