The installation went fine. They had someone come back and installed shutters on the inside. They didn’t account for the light and sink fixture that interferes with the opening of the shutter, so we can only open one side.
Description of Work: They installed blinds in every room of the house. Also installed blinds that can open from top and bottom.

I personally worked with Rick Fredrick and he was just here yesterday. He was great. He was personable and made great recommendations. He was very funny, but honest and helpful. I liked that he didn't try to get me to order something I didn't need. So far we've ordered the wood blinds and will have them installed soon. They came out to measure our frames for free and the turnaround time is very quick.

I’ve had an excellent experience with them. The sales people, in general, are very knowledgeable. The salesman that I worked with was incredibly professional. I went in to just talk about window coverings and what I would use almost 6 months before I actually purchased anything. Six months after my initial visit, I was blown away that the young salesman that I talked with remembered my name! They sent someone out within a day or two to measure the windows. He was very good, and talked about the benefits of inside/outside mounting and how the shutters would work, which helped me with my decision. He also gave me his recommendation. The work was done when they said it would be, and the technicians arrived on time. They were excellent to work with as well, and left no mess behind. The work was well-done and neat. I’ll definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Initially, they installed 11 plantation shutters on my windows, and more recently, they installed silhouette blinds for three windows.

We ordered our blinds in the store. Khalid was very knowledgeable and patient. He answered all of our questions with and gave us some additional ideas to consider. He did not push but listened carefully to what we wanted. His initial estimate was very reasonable and gave us an idea of how much money we needed to set aside. NextDayBlinds did require 60% down for our order to proceed. The next step was measurements. Pat came well within the scheduled time period and answered additional questions. She noted the colors we wanted in certain rooms and gave suggestions when we asked. As a result, we did decide to go with plantation shutters instead of mini-blinds in one room and also made a final decision on the types of blinds to pout in our living room. We were able to change are order so that the installation would be in two separate trips since the shutters have to be custom cut. On installation day, the installer was preceded by a call from the office so we knew he was on his way. He was very efficient and took down the old treatments and removed the excess we did not want. I think it is a plus that Next Day Blinds use direct employees as opposed to subcontractors. Khalid has been with the company for 10 years, Pat well over 5 years and the installer Stephan over five years. All appeared to know their exact duties and communicated very well with others within the company and with us so there were no misunderstandings. We still have the plantation shutters to be installed. but so far we are very pleased and recommend anyone considering new blinds or shutters to check them out!
Description of Work: We needed to get window blinds for our house including mini-blinds for the bedrooms, vertical blinds for two glass doors and some interior shutters. We visited the store to select the styles and types of blinds we wanted. Next Day Blinds planned two home visits; the first to conduct measurements and the second to install the blinds.

The blinds have stayed in such good shape. I am very pleased the service. I especially appreciated that they sent me an email telling me who was coming to my house to do the installation including a biography of the technicians. It was a very nice touch. The price was very reasonable to me.

It went very well. While the designer and measurer arrived about a half hour late, she did call to alert us in advance. She was very knowledgeable and offered good suggestions. The installer was punctual and very professional. He was also quiet and respectful and cleaned up after himself thoroughly. We are very pleased with the end product and would recommend them.

I was REALLY happy with Next Day Blinds overall. I was driving around in mid-January listening to the radio, and Eliot in the Morning was discussing break-ins into houses. I bought a house in the summer of 2011, and the front living room window was covered with nearly transparent curtains on a rod that slid around. The kitchen had heavy linen curtains on rods that slid around as well. Due to the sliding rods, I rarely opened or closed the curtains, so the radio program made me anxious to get blinds that I could open and close easily. I was nervous about using a large national corporation, but went to the Next Day Blinds in the Bowie Town Center location anyway. Jay helped me decide on appropriate colors. I had made measurements of my windows so gave him the dimensions. I had three windows to get blinds for - an 11' x 5' window area in my living room, 8' x 7' sliding door in my kitchen and a 6.5' x 4' window above my sink/countertop in the kitchen. Jay quoted me a littler under $1000 - this included installaton, parts, taking down any currently installed curtains/blinds and filling in any screw holes from the taken down blinds/curtains with a filling putty. They also have lifetime warranties for all blinds. The price was within my budget and sounded reasonable given the size windows I had. Jay set up time ranges for two visits they'd be making. He also told me the price may adjust a bit based on the measurements that they made, but he tried to add some numbers to my measurements to avoid the price changing by a significant amount. One appointment was to do actual measurements since mine were rough, and the second was for the actual installation. I made them for Saturday afternoons to fit into my schedule. Having the Saturday option was nice. For the day of the measurement, I was called about halfway into my time range (2 - 6 p.m.) and was told that Andrew was going to be arriving at my house soon. Andrew came shortly afterwards, about an hour before my range was up, and made the measurements. Someone called the next day to tell me that my final price would be about $20 more than the estimate, which was fine. A few days later, I got an e-mail to confirm my installation date, and it also told me about the installer, Anthony, who had been with them for 11 years. The day of installation, again, within the time range we set up (1 - 6 p.m.), I got an call that Anthony would be arriving around 5:30 p.m or so, and he got there shortly after that time. Everything had been pre-cut and set up based on Andrew's measurements, so Anthony was done in about an hour. He took down the blinds and curtains that were up, filled the holes in with white putty, and installed the new blinds and the covers on top. He told me how to take care of them (wash with warm water if dirty) and how to deal with static-y slats (paper towel with cold water run down the length of the slat). I was EXTREMELY happy with their professionalism, all of the phone calls informing me of everything and keeping me in the loop so that there were no surprises, the fact that they fufilled their obligations by showing up when they said they would (within the time window) the quality of the work, and the friendliness of all of the people that I was helped by. I strongly recommend them to anyone who wants to get blinds installed.

The shop-at-home designer was fantastic. She was prompt, friendly and easy to work with. She understood exactly what we were looking for and gave me great ideas. Honestly, every experience I had with the company was fantastic up until the installation. We were given a window of 1 - 5 for an installation that was supposed to take 30 minutes. The installer didn't show up until 6 and it took him almost an hour and a half. The blinds were installed beautifully but he was a little sloppy with the clean-up. For example, after he left we found a discarded bracket on the floor in the middle of my children's bedroom. I am very happy with the finished product but like I said, after all the other good experiences I'd had, the installation was a real let down.

After doing our research we decided to order our roller shades from Next Day Blinds. We called a number of companies for quotes and found them to be very responsive with great advice and attention to detail. We ultimately ordered online after calling in and asking lots of questions. Dave, in particular, was fantastic with us. He was very patient and knowledgeable. The entire organization was very professional. Everyone we spoke to was an employee of the company and really knew the ins and outs of their products. After the order was placed online, we even got a call to confirm the details. The shades look fantastic and cost us about half of what our previous supplier cost. We saved over $400. Overall, great customer service and a beautiful product.

I purchased both wood blinds and natural roman shades for my home several years ago and had a good experience. The grades I gave forthe quality of the product are based on that. Unfortunately, when I attempted to purchase shades for my kitchen this past year, the customerservice experience was terrible. When I first had a consultant come in May, I called my consultant's number a week after the visit to hear that she was no longer working for Next Day Blinds. I tried calling the main number to place an order, and the representative said someone would return my call to place the order, but no one ever did. A few weeks later, I received a card from them noting I had an open quote from a consultation and asking me to take a survey asking why I hadn't placed an order yet. I filled out the survey, checking a box they had noting if you wanted to be contacted about the order. Still no one contacted me. In November, I finally decided I needed to get these shades, regardless of this frustrating experience with customer service. When I called, customer service informed me that someone would have to come and remeasure because of the time that had passed, which I found frustrating but fair. The consultant came in and confirmed my selection. I gave a deposit and we set a date two weeks later for installation. Two days before installation, I received a phone call that the shades I had selected had been discontinued, and asking me to schedule another consultation to make a different selection. I declined, asking for a refund, which the customer service representative confirmed he would do. After two weeks, I noticed the refund of my 50% deposit still had not been credited to the account. I called customer service inquiring about that. The deposit was ultimately refunded approximately 3 weeks after I cancelled my order. I just had a consultation with a sole proprietor who carries the Hunter Douglas line (Montgomery Blinds), and while I haven't received the product yet, the difference in customer service was night and day. The quality of the samples he showed me were more expensive but definitely higher quality, so considering that we plan to have this house from 20+ years, it is worth the premium.
Description of Work: Attempted to have shades selected and installed in my kitchen. Because the product I selected during the in-home visit was discontinued, I cancelled the purchase.

I needed economical window treatments for a rental unit I own. Michael Bruce came out for an in-home consultation and was very knowledgeable and helpful. There was absolutely no pressure to upsell and the appointment was quick and efficient. The blinds were installed the next day, and the installation team did a great job. I couldn't be happier with the product and the service.

I made an appointment with a shop at home decorator . She came at the appointed time and was as good or better than an interior designer who you could pay on a fee for service basis. Her services were free. I wanted white wood blinds and thought that would be a one choice decision. She showed me the 4 white color choices and was able to select the one that blended with my paint color and drapes. It turned out to be perfect. She assessed the decor in my rooms and determined that a colored band on the blinds would limit my decorating options. (I imagine the blinds might have cost more with that option, but she was focused on the right choice). I selected a delivery date that fit my schedule. On the appointed date, as pre-arranged, I got a call to give me a half -hour window. In fact, NDB called to let me know that the installer was running ahead of schedule and could arrive earlier than my scheduled time. Unfortunately, I still had work appointments. So they told me they would just put me back in my originally scheduled time slot. They called to let me know that I was next in line, which turned out to be in the middle of the time frame. The installer was professional and proficient. He not only removed the old window treatments and their brackets, but also filled the old holes to leave them paint ready, before doing the new installation . I had bought the treatments they replaced at home depot, and they had not lasted very long. The installer asked if I would like to save them because he would have packaged them for me for storage. Not worth it, but my experience was as if a talented family friend had come to help me out. What an amazing company from start to finish.

Next Day Blinds was exceptional from start to finish. It was exceptionally easy to get an appointment at a convenient time for the salesperson to come to our house. The appointment process was all done on-line, with reminder emails. The salesperson was courteous and knowledgeable. After he measured all of the windows, he told us that he could do the quote right then. We needed to get to work, so he said he would email us the quote within the hour. Within the hour, we had the quote. We placed our order and asked for next day installation. He said that someone would call within the hour to confirm the time of their arrival the next day. We received the call as promised. The next morning, as promised, they arrived and installed all of the blinds. Within 24 hours, NDB came, measured, and installed our blinds. The blinds look fantastic, and we could not be happier with the exceptional service. They might be a large chain, but the service is like a small business that is eager to make the customer super happy.
Description of Work: Next Day Blinds came to the house to show us samples and to measure the windows. The next day, they came back to install all of of the blinds.

I contacted Next Day Blinds for an in-home consultation for a master bath renovation. I was told that there were not any appointments in the late afternoon (i.e. 3 or 4 p.m.). Since I work full-time, I did not want to have to take an afternoon off. I asked for a later appointment, and after some searching, the person I spoke with gave me a 4:00 appointment with "Teri", approximately 3 weeks later. On Friday before my Tuesday appointment, I received a call telling me that my appointment would have to be changed, since the consultant who "covers my area" does not schedule appointments after 2:00 p.m. That being said, why was I scheduled for 4:00 in the first place and why did they wait so long to notify me? I have now wasted more than three weeks completing my project. Perhaps Next Day Blinds should consider hiring consultants who are more flexible in their scheduling, or provide additional coverage for appointments made around the customer's schedule. I cannot do business with a company that cannot accommodate their working customers. Since then, I have had no problem scheduling in-home consultation appointments with three other well-known companies who were happy to work around my schedule.
Description of Work: There were no services performed. I was not able to get past the in-home consulation.

The whole experience was disconcerting: 1) being dropped fromt he schedule despite significant lead time and an actual conversation wtih the assigned rep; 2) receiving advice from the rep which totally conflicted with the installer, the rep claiming that she had given specific instructions, in writing, for the installer, but Customer Care siding with the installer. 3) an installer who, apparently, always does things one way no matter what had been agreed to (and incidentally, although he left behind all my existing window coverings and hardware, the brass cleats totally disappeared!) I cannot use this company again. I am hoping the product is effective and worhwhile...the services and managment of services were discombobulated. In fairness, I received small discounts for my inconvenience (being dropped from the schedule) and the missing brass cord cleats. As my dinner guest (who witnessed some of the installation brouhaha) remarked: "You can't go to McDonald's and expect a custom hamburger."
Description of Work: I scheduled an appointment ten days out. I spoke with the assigned rep several days in advance of the appointment becuase I wanted a larger sample of a particular color of honeycomb shade that I was interested in (I had picked up a few samples at the Rockville store). When the appointed day and time came (11/4) she did not appear so I phoned her. Apparently I was no longer on her schedule nor anyone;s schedule. She was very apologetic and squeezed me in late in the day. She advised me on the placement of the shades and measured for same. This involved three shades in my living room and four downstairs. We agreed to use my existing brass cord cleats in the living room.. I expressed concern about the insulating quality of the shades and explained that that was why I was buying them. All was agreeable and installation was later scheduled for the following Friday (11/11). I was the very last appointment of the day and the installer arrived at 6:30 pm. When he installed the first shade it was NOT at all as I had agreed with the sales rep. My windows are deep set and we had discussed placing the shades flush with the wall. He installed them close to the window pane...a difference of about 6 inches. He removed my brass cleats and installed the standard plastic ones in fromt of the shade and hot behind as had been agreed. When I pointed these things out he said he would redo them but that what he was doing was the most energy efficient way of installing them and that is the way he alwys does it. I called my sales rep who was on vacation and then Customer Care. Customer Care responded by calling the installer and then telling me that he was a master installer so I should listen to him!!!! The sales rep phoned my around 7:45 pm (having got the voicemail I left) and she talked to me and the installer (who, by that time, was nearly done. Since it was so late and I was waiting to cook and eat dinner with my guest, we all agreed that someone could come back later and change everything if I didn't like it.

I was initially estimated one price and then I received a call informing me that the measurements I gave them when I came into the store (Aspen Hill) were incorrect and it would cost me much more. My measurements very closely matched the measurements of the person who came out to measure. When I signed the estimate, I did not think I needed to scrutinize every line. The woman who prepared my estimate admitted being very tired because her child was "up all night." When the person came out to install, he was on the phone with someone the entire time. I kept thinking he was talking to me, only to find that he was in deep discussion on the phone - talking, laughing... He left screws on the floor in the living room and in the bedroom. He was supposed to come between 2 and 5 and did not arrive until a few minutes before 7.
Description of Work: installation of window treatments in bedroom and livingroom. My update is that the company called me after reading my dissatisfied report and they were very solicitous and very willing to correct my experience. The woman who called asked for a detailed account of what happened, apologized wholeheartedly and actually returned 20% of the cost of the installation. I am very satisfied with their authentic and reasonable response and I will, in fact, use them again. We are all prone to having a bad day. What counts is how well we can take responsibility for that and make amends. Congratulations, Next Day Blinds, for your accountability!

Deborah Diggins provided excellent consultation. She was punctual, personable and knowledgeable. She was able to help me select the perfect blinds for each room of my condo. The installation of the blinds was done quickly but competently. The guys took off their shoes and left my place looking just as it had, except with beautiful new blinds.

They are a big company and they were fine. We first went with a smaller contractor and he tok our money and never placed our order. I called Hunter Douglas and that was how I found out that he never place the order.

I requested an in-home visit on-line. I got an immediate response and scheduled the appointment for two days later. Lyn Gooden was early (she called to make sure it was o.k.) and did a fantastic job of walking me through the options for the various windows. I had thought I wanted woven shades for the family room and she pointed out that if I wanted to do the bay window it would take three panels with the woven shades and one with the honeycomb shades. In addition, the color match with the woven vertical blinds on my sliding doors was much closer. I was skeptical, but went ahead and ordered them - the color turned out to be a wonderful match and I love the way the blinds look. Because I was concerned with the cost of plantation shutters, Lyn suggested wooden blinds for the guest room and bathroom so that I could have the plantation shutters in the master bedroom. It was a great suggestion. The installation process went incredibly smoothly. The installers even spackled the holes where they removed the curtain rods and took all of the old blinds and rods away with them. I would highly recommend Next Day Blinds.

I had a very good experience with next day blinds. I had an in home consultation, which I was able to schedule for the next day. The decoration consultant arrived promptly at the time expected and proceeded to methodically walk through all of my options. While he was unwilling to provide interior design options (fair enough) he did provide ideas about what others have done. Additionally, there was no attempt to upsell additional products unless I made a specific inquiry. I received estimates for four windows, two downstairs and two upstairs. I decided to go with the two downstairs first as a test.and plan on completing the bedroom treatment after updating my furniture selection. I scheduled an appointment two days later. I received a ETA the following day by phone and confirmed. My time was 8-11am and the installer arrived at 8:05!!! Awesome. The full installation took about 20 min. I received instructions and warranty info and it was all done. Painless, prompt, and great looking blinds. I did go to a store first, and because I looked for an in home estimate, the service was not a good because no action could be taken prior to a sale. It seems to me that the company could operate in a more cohesive manner, but I was fully satisfied after moving to the in home process, which I would recommend to others. This is the only reason I lowered my service rating a notch. I really don't see a good reason for going to the store, when it is free to have someone come to your home with all of the products available for viewing. Well done with great In home service.

The in-house selection went very well and the installation was just as planned.
Description of Work: Holly was spectacular in helping select window treatments for a new condo. After installation I changed my my mind about something and she took care of it quickly and nicely. I highly recommend!

I was initially scheduled to meet with another company, but due to a last-minute cancellation/reschedule on their end, I stopped in the Next Day Blinds store in Old Town Alexandria just to check them out. The store was inviting and showed samples of many products and the person working there that day (Margie?) was very knowledgable and professional and took the time to answer all of my questions about different products. While at the store, I scheduled an in-home consultation about a week and a half later. Lyn Gooden was the designer sent to my home and she was wonderful. She has a great eye and really listens to what you say. For example, she thought woven shades might look nice in the family room and when I mentioned that I had a cat that was not declawed she showed me some other products that might not be so tempting for kitty to grab on to. After deciding the type of window treatments I wanted for each window (13 plantation shutters, 8 wood blinds, 1 vertical blind) Lyn took the measurements, plugged the info into her computer and was able to give me a detailed estimate that day. I had mentioned to her that I was a member of Angie's List but I had forgot to bring the coupon and she told me not to worry, that she had the code and would honor it. Plus, she also gave me the discount that was in the newspaper that day as well. At my request, the installation was pushed back until September 13 (closer to our move in date) and the team of two installers showed up and got to work right away. They were very respectful of our home, wiping their feet outside then taking their shoes off inside. I still can't get over how quickly they were able to install all 22 window treatments. Everything looks beautiful and works perfectly. We couldn't be more pleased.

The saleslady was very knowledgeable and patient in helping me pick out the color and size of plantation shutters for my living room. She gave me a number of samples to take home to help me decide which shade of white I should get! The people who came to measure and who installed the shutters were punctual, efficient, and very pleasant, and the shutters fit perfectly in the windows. I wasn't sure I liked them when I first got them, and now that I have had them for a while, I wish I could do the whole house. They help a lot with insulating the windows from the cold and heat, and are very quick to open and shut with as much or as little light as you want to come in. They are wonderful and the company did a great job installing them.
