Merrifield Garden Center - Fair Oaks

My trees are gorgeous this year. They are very professional, attentive and everyone knows that. We spent $3000 for that work and it was worth it. Three workers came out to do the work and brought with them the organic material and mulch. They were very god and accommodating and my husband I told them where to plant it. It was very nice to have them out to do the work. We bought a book and even looked at information on planting trees and then went to them and they also gave us so much of advice too. They are expensive, but have very healthy plants and were professional, and we were pleased.

The prices are ok, a bit on the expensive side. You can sometimes get a coupon for $10 off if you spend $50. You can find them on the counters next to the registers. Service depends on the individual. Most are helpful and knowledgeable. A few people aren't so helpful. Decent plant stock and contains a good selection of drip irrigation supplies.

Josh Dean came out for an estimate and provided drawings and a price. It was higher than others I had received, but Merrifield had a good reputation. with some illness in the family the job was put on hold. In summer, I visitied the nursery to see options for plantings. Josh was very late for that meeting but I didn't think anything of it and that discussion was useful. Then he simply stopped returning phone calls into the fall -- I left several messages and then again this spring offering one more opportunity. I just gave up and am glad to have a place where others can read this story. Bad form.... Before the end of the process, I might have given them a B, but the lack of follow through drops this score greatly

Had to call a general number; representative took down my info, said she would pass it on to the right department and someone would call me back. A few days later, someone called me back and took down all my info. They wouldn't give me an exact date on when they would come out. They just said they would get to it as their schedule allowed. Haven't heard from them since. Anyway, was a little hesitant to use them because they have a reputation of being overpriced.

They were wonderful. They were a little expensive, but worth it.

They provided individualized service. They were kind and courteous and I was happy with their quote.

Josh Dean was my landscape architect and coordinated all aspects of the project. He was easy to reach and responsive to my ideas. The crew(s) were talented and hard working and clearly took pride in their work. They cleaned up each day before leaving.

The employee came out and he wasn't very creative. He had a set of ideas that he is accustomed to working with rather than looking at my yard and coming up with a design that best fit my yard. Also, he didn't forewarn me that it would cost $75 just for the estimate. He basically just told me after he showed up that there would be a charge. I showed him around my yard and told him kind of what I was looking for. I didn't feel comfortable having him sketch the design right there in my house so he got back with me. He gave me two estimates - one was sent via email and that price was much smaller than the one on the mailed hard copy, but I couldn't see the difference in the designs. He was, however, on time and returned phone calls in a timely manner. The price wasn't great - I didn't feel like I was getting a lot of bang for my buck. In the future, I may buy plants from them, but probably not hire them to do any landscape work for me.

The workers from Merrifield did a good job. Some of the plants they planted did die, but they do come guaranteed. Their landscape designer was very good. She was very punctual and she took my wishes into consideration as she made her design. The installation was very good and they had to work around my irrigation system. They made sure not to damage anything. The pricing was a little high, but they did pretty good work. They were very responsive and punctual.

The landscaper, Chris, was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He did a great job steering me away from bad ideas and giving me some options that would work better. He was very responsive to my phone calls and emails and I had planned on giving the job to Merrifield Garden Center, but the last quote I got for this job was just a bit better price-wise. The total price for the job would have been around $37,000.

They were really good and things turned out to be exactly the way they said it would be. There were some problems with the plants and they replaced it without any problem.

They provide a very good product and service for my area. They give a 10% senior discount. The staff is very nice and helpful. We will continue to use them in the future.

The designer was responsive to my initial call and we arranged a time for her to come to my home and talk with me about what she felt was feasible and what I envisioned. She suggested a number of ideas which were practical and within my budget. She asked me what I liked and wanted. She developed a plan and returned to present it to me with a good estimate of costs. She suggested ways that could control costs and what I might want to do myself. She was receptive to my questions and ideas. The work was scheduled and completed on time. The workmen were professional, courteous and neat. I'm very pleased with the final result. I plan on contacting Merrifield Gardens again for another project.

I have been satisfied with them. They are expensive, but they do stick by their warranty and replace anything that needs it. Overall, I have been happy with them.

Everything went very smoothly during my experience with this company. I was happy with the design work and implementation that they did. The finished product turned out how I had envisioned.

It was nice. They have a nice wide selection, but I thought some things were a little high priced. There were sales people available to assist their customers.

Georgeann Casey came out, listened well to what we wanted to do, made helpful suggestions and came back with a very complete plan for the work and estimate of the costs. We decided to go with another company largely because of the cost. Merrifield was close to the highest cost and almost 58% higher than the company we finally decided to go with.

I have no negatives with them. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. They arrived in a timely fashion and did what they said they would do. One of the Azalea's in my front yard got sick and they replaced it. They were neat and courteous. We are satisfied. We would hire them again.

The designers did a fine job answering any questions we had and providing a design option. The backyard design was great but we ended up changing the design because we thought something else would work better. We got the design fee back because we purchased our plants from them, so it was essentially a free service. All the plants are of the highest quality but they are more expensive than other nurseries in the area. One Azalea died within the warranty period and they replaced it for no charge. We continue to buy all plants and flowers from Merrifield because they offer a great selection and are very helpful. Their plant clinic is excellent and provide me with useful advice as to lawn care, pests, etc.

Two died by the time moved out in 2008. If had not sold house would have filed small claim. No amount.

I felt it was well set up but the products were very expensive. They were of great quality but more than if you went to a regular store such as Home Depot to buy your flowers and mulch. I had a hard time finding and associate to help me.

We had a landscape architect design and needed someone to implement it. We did not want to do the entire yard at once and so we prioritized the projects. Most important was a repair of our front walk and step to the porch. We worked with Georgeanne Casey, she was great. She listened, was enthusiastic with her crew and had very good suggestions. One suggestion was that we go out to their Garden Center to choose our pavers for the walk because the books do not show the colors very true. That was a great suggestion because we picked out something entirely different when we could see them. The crew was prompt, friendly and very neat. They took on an extra project and completed that the next day. The walk is beautiful and the step is much more manageable.

I requested an estimate through Merrifield's website and Dave responded to me the next day. He came out the next week to give me an estimate for landscaping the front and back yards of my townhouse. He asked me about my goals and what I wanted for my yard. He clearly explained his ideas and drew out a rough sketch on the spot, which was helpful. He explained roughly what the estimate would be, as well as, what costs were fixed (labor) vs. variable (plants). The estimates were sent via mail and I decided to do the front yard only due to my budgetary constraints. We scheduled a date for work within 2 weeks. I met him at the Merrifield location to pick out plants. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. On the day of the project, he called to let me know he and his crew were there, and also followed up when they were done. My front yard looks great and I couldn't be happier.

They were wonderful. It was expensive, but they did a great quality job. I worked with Terri Mcginnis and loved her design and job. She was very professional and always on time. I may not have done the job if it weren't for her. My experience with her was very positive. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

I contacted Merrifield in early March and the landscaper assigned to Alexandria kept promising to come out to my property to give me an estimate. I placed many calls and each time was told he would be out the following week. Eventually I received an estimate for work to start no later than May 29. Instead, work did not happen until the week of June 23. I do not believe the landscaper ever came out to my property to see the work after it had been done (he sent a crew to do the work). One plant was placed in an incorrect location. In addition, I reported that the ground cover had died a week after being planted. I was told that the plant would be moved and they would replace the ground cover. While the plant was moved to the correct side of the walkway, no work was done to prepare the area where it was replanted. In addition, the ground cover was not replaced. If they had told me at the beginning how long it would take to do the work, I would have gone elsewhere. Instead, they kept stringing me along. I believe bigger jobs came along and my project kept getting bumped.
