Over the course of time and multiple jobs that Mr. Cox has done for me, I've developed a deep appreciation for his attention to detail and knowledge of his craft. I have developed a trust in him and his work and know that I will be more than happy with the results. I've often joked with my wife when calling her from work and said "I can't wait to see what Mr. Cox has done today". He is very efficient with his time, communicates better than any contractor I've ever dealt with and is as honest as they come. He breaks down the work to be done in his contracts in a way that is easy to understand. His prices are competitive and in my opinion, very honest which are a reflection of his integrity. I have happily referred him to friends and family in the past, all of whom have had nothing but great things to say about him. I am a very handy person myself and am very critical of work that is done for me so speaking so highly of others is not something I often do but when you are this good at what you do, I believe people should know. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about Mr. Cox.
Description of Work: Mr. Cox has done multiple jobs for me over the course of a couple of years. He's done everything from framing an entire floor to new door installations, custom molding, pantry built-ins, shelving, and fine carpentry,

Joe called promptly after I contacted him about work. He emailed a bunch of pictures of his work - which looked fabulous - and he scheduled a time to come out and look at the project. He came to the house - right on time. He then called a few hours later with an estimate. Everything was going so well and I was excited to work with him, but then his inability to be flexible and his aggressive response came. As we spoke I told him there was a slight modification to what his quote was for, meaning I wanted a mantle with legs (which from his verbal description he wasn't quoting me for) and I wanted a chest on the end. To both of my, very reasonable, requests he said that he could not and would not do them and when I questioned him, even a little bit, he got angry with me and withdrew his bid and basically hung up on me. I was so shocked. I have never been treated like that by someone who I was about to pay thousands of dollars to. I agree with his other negative reviews and say that I'm glad I didn't start a project with him and find out about this side in the middle of the project. While I probably would have appreciated his product, his professionalism (and temper) leaves a lot to be desired.
Description of Work: I did not hire him for the work, but it was supposed to be a mantle and shelves (built-in bookcases) on either side of the fireplace.

Once again I only have problems with people I refuse to work for and this is definitely one - It was her aggressive and insulting behavior that made me withdraw my bid -I have never gotten into a project and had a problem as she implied and resented being talked to in a rude manner after explaining the limitations of what I am willing to do -Some people don't want to be told no.

Joe was very helpful and completed the work in about a week. I plan to call him back for a bookcase. He does really nice work. His pricing was in-line with another estimate I received and I was satisfied with the price.
Description of Work: Joe provided a baseboard trim in two bedrooms and replaced eight closet doors. He also added a door and steps to an outdoor shed.

We're definitely pleased with everything Joe did. The work looks great, and it's rock solid in terms of both craftsmanship and quality of materials. We also really appreciated how responsive Joe was to our requests, his attention to detail in figuring out what we wanted before he started cutting materials, and his dedication to making sure we're satisfied with the work. We will definitely call him first if we need any more carpentry in the house.

Such a wonderful man. Came to my house and told me there would be a minimum charge. But the job turned out to be so simple (and I was embarrassed) that he charged me less and was so nice. Job took about a minute and a half. And the door is perfectly fixed.

These wooden plinths had been replaced once years ago, but continued to rot as water from the front stoop wicked up into them. Mr. Cox suggested replacing just the bases with plastic blocks. He shaped the plastic to resemble the wooden blocks & painted them to match the rest of the door jamb. They look great! Mr. Cox provided the work he promised on time and for the price quoted, even though he did a couple of other minor repairs to the door jamb.

The absolute, without a doubt, the best. From the very first communication with Mr. Cox (he returned my voice mail message within 5 minutes) it's been nothing but professionalism and outstanding work all the way. He is polite, he explains in detail what the work entails, how long the job will take, when he will be able to start and complete the work, the estimated cost of a job (always spot on), to, well, everything. Mr. Cox was able to come out to my home the very next day after I initially called him, and immediately gave me copies of his contractor's license info. No contractor of any sort ever provided this info, so I was a bit taken aback, but was nonetheless impressed. It did give me pause, as I wondered why no one else has ever done the same. He also emailed photos of the work he has done in the past, which was just gorgeous. So just from that one example of his character, I knew that he was a cut way way above any one else. And he has proven that over and over. Just from the installation of the new doors, my house looks so much better just because his workmanship is excellent, he removes all debris and trash, and also takes the doors with him to dispose of. He always arrives when he says he is going to and gets in touch, either by phone or email, when he says he is going to. As most people know, one of the main complaints with contractors is that there is poor, or no, communication. Mr. Cox from the start gives you this info, from the start, without even being prompted to. Needless to say, I feel so darn fortunate that he is out there in the world, I sure as heck wish there were more, shoot, maybe just one more, out there like him. No one would ever be wary of hiring a contractor if their first experience had been with Mr. Fox, because he is in a class by himself. He's a rarity, and he's a keeper.

Joe Cox is as good a handyman as you'll ever find. Over the years (in a variety of different houses) he has built me a beautiful mantle and shelving unit to surround a fireplace, put up crown molding that my realtor called the best she's ever seen, and done a wide variety of home repairs. Joe is somewhat selective in what he'll do, but that's because he's something of a perfectionist and only takes on jobs that he does extremely well. He's on time, gives fair estimates and gets my very highest recommendation.

I am sorry the customer did not like the price. All prices are given in advance on a contract with no surprises -Honestly, the only way I can do the quality job he spoke of is by charging the prices I do which are not very much in comparison to the big, high overhead companies that usually will not do these jobs because the job is too small - I really do feel that you get what you pay for.

Really nice job. Joe is a first class carpenter -- when he showed up a few days ago to give the estimate, the first thing he handed me was a copy of his licenses and five recent references. I liked that right off the bat. Then he took some measurements and gave me the estimate, and I gave him a down payment. He called twice to confirm his arrival time this morning and he arrived right on time. Within about three hours the work was done, it looked perfect, and he cleaned up. I wrote him a check for the balance and the entire job was completed to my satisfaction within five days of contacting him initially.

Joe is a great handyman. He came and looked over the work, then provided a written estimate of the cost and time needed to complete the work. He delivered some of the supplies the Saturday before the work was scheduled because rain was possible on the work day. All the work was beautifully done and was just as we requested. We have two cats and Joe was good about preventing them from running out the door. We will be using his services again and give a high recommendation.

Joe seems like an interesting and nice guy. He decided not to do or quote the work scoped. While I respect that, I do think Joe does not fully understand that the homeowner also invests time and energy in getting a quote. It appears that Joe selects work he can do well, work he has done and work he can do quickly - 'I always do it this way.' He does not move power outlets, does not install new lights for closets. The other reviews seem to indicate that if you fall in his niche, he will do a good a job cost-effectively.

I spent almost an hour going through potential work for this customer making suggestions he had not considered and knew by the time I left I did not want this job simply because I did not like the idea of working with him.He kept pushing for an answer I was not willing to give and I know what my limitations are and stay within them.I try to be polite with all potential customers and did not feel he was doing the same and declined the work. I do not quote jobs I am not going to do - I do not think this is unreasonable or uncommon.

Mr. Cox returned my call promptly and asked relevant questions about the job. I was able to schedule the work with him for a convenient date and time. Joe was able to get in on a Tuesday to give me a quote and schedule the job for that Saturday. He was on time for each appointment and very professional. My experience was wonderful. He brought all the supplies with him so I didn't have to pick up the molding myself. I just told him what I wanted at the estimate appointment. He got the job done in an hour and a half and did not leave a mess. He was very efficient and did a beautiful job. I'm very thankful that he was flexible enough to be able to get the work done with such short notice. I would definitely use him again.
