Estimate > The wooden screen doors on our screened porch needed replacement. I called and requested a quote. The sales rep came out. He was on time, friendly and professional. He took photos, and we discussed options. He recommended that we replace the current doors with higher quality doors, making the project more expensive than I had planned, but with the goal that they would last much longer. I received a detailed estimate by email the next business day. The estimate seemed to be fixed price, and there was no mention of possible overages. About half the cost was the materials (doors, closures) and the other half was labor (install, haul away). Scheduling > A few weeks later I scheduled the work. We went back and forth by email a few times to find a date and time that worked. (A couple times they emailed and by the time I responded the spot was gone, so we had to try again. Understandable, but I'd recommend picking up the phone to reduce back and forth.) We ended up with a 3-5 pm timeframe. Work > The day of the scheduled work, I received a call at about 4 that the workman was running late but would be there soon. I expressed concern that it would be dark out, and it was an outdoor project. I got another call at 4:30 that he wouldn't be able to pick up the materials and get there in time. I worked with the office to schedule another date and time. The rescheduled day of the work, the workmen called to let me know they could come a bit early. (I wasn't home yet, but they were there when I arrived.) They were professional and friendly. We discussed and clarified that knobs for the old doors were damaged and couldn't be used, as detailed in the estimate. They completed their work and cleaned everything up well. When it came time to pay they had added $70 for labor to install the knobs, which wasn't expected, but we paid in full and I planned to call the office the next day since it was late. The completed work looks good. The doors are sturdy and close well. Follow up > I called the next day and spoke with Luke in the office. He confirmed that their estimates are fixed price. He called me back the next day to clarify that the door closers they had brought required more time than expected to install so they added the charge. I asked him to reconsider the cost (either a refund or discount), because it wasn't mentioned in the estimate and the team didn't clarify it with us before they completed the work, or give us the option to let us do it ourselves later. They cashed my check later that week but I still hadn't heard back. I followed up by email and received a response that they would send me a $40 refund check (of the $70 unexpected). I received the refund check in the next week in the mail. To improve the experience, they could have communicated with me better and more proactively to schedule the work initially, and to reschedule the work on the original day; communicated more clearly about potential additional costs, and secured my approval for the additional costs before the work was preformed; and communicated better to follow up on my inquiry, waited to cash my check until they had confirmed their solution, and proactively notified me when they came to a solution. I am satisfied with the quality of the work.

Mike, the handyman, was very professional and friendly. He went about his work and did a great job. We’ve scheduled other maintenance jobs with him.

We had our porch painted, some masonry work as well as fixing some “bird damage” around some windows. All of the staff were very professional, prompt and did a wonderful job on the work! We highly recommend Jim the Handyman (Kelly, Carlos and Mike).

I cannot say enough good things about the team that Jim the Handymen sent. Carlos and Mira were courteous, professional, diligent, and knowledgeable. I was concerned about not getting the prep work done properly on the bay window and portico. Carlos did an excellent job. When there was a problem, Carlos explained it and always had a reasonable solution. I will definitely use your services again.

The handyman removed the pergola efficiently, cleaned up any debris, and hauled away the scrap, as agreed. He was polite, answered my questions, and did a thorough and careful removal.

Job was promptly and skillfully executed within a few days of hire. Honest outfit. Estimate $220 included gutter clean but they determined upon inspection it was not needed and they adjusted my bill down.

He gave me estimates for six items that needed fixing. I picked two for now and left the others to do later, and was not charged extra for doing it a la carte. He showed up on time and did a good job. I will definitely call them again.

I was a big job in a small house. We had a few problems, but work everything out with both professionalism and curtesy that is very rare in these days. I've been working with this company for..I believe over 20 years and I keep calling them to come back. That should say it all!. They do exceptional work!

Everything was done ahead of schedule and at a reasonable price. It was great that the manager even made time to stop by the house to see how everything was going.

Great handyman work! Michael did all that I asked, and more. The kitchen cabinet door repair proved most challenging, since finding hinges that would fit on my 1990s cabinets turned out to be quite difficult. Hinge parts from the larger hardware stores didn't fit (Michael checked at least six stores), but a specialty cabinet store in Alexandria carried hinges that appeared to be a match. They were close. In the end, Michael was able to combine parts from the Alexandria hinges with my original hinges to make them work. The cabinet doors work beautifully now.

This went very well. Carlos did great work and was very friendly and polite. Work was finished on time. Old shower caulking and grout had leaked through to the next room. Carlos recaulked and grouted the shower and replaced the drywall on the other side, treated mold, and painted. Looks like new. Would definitely recommend.

My experience with this company was very disappointing. Especially because it started off so promising. I had no problems reaching them to set up an estimate appointment. The person who came out to do the estimate was professional and friendly, and seemed very competent. Based on this positive start, and the positive reviews on Angie's, I decided to hire them and not shop around for other companies. My estimate appointment was in early October 2017. I hoped to get some, even if not all the work, done before the holidays. I asked the estimator what their schedule was looking like, and he thought they were booking about a week out. It took 1-2 weeks to get my estimate from them, which was OK with me as it was such a long list of items to prepare estimates for. However, there was some information missing that I needed to make the final decisions of what work to start with. There was a couple rooms I wanted a paint estimate for that were missing and I had also wanted to know a ballpark estimate of how much time was needed to complete each job so I could plan accordingly with our work schedules. They had emailed me the estimate, so I emailed back my follow up questions. And here's where it fell apart. I never got the finished estimate. I followed up many times, and initially my emails and calls were returned. They were working on it, sorry for the delay, etc. Around Thanksgiving they said they were busy with clients who wanted work done for the holidays - I replied that I was one of those people! I said I would still like to use them to get some things done before Christmas, I never heard from them again. So the timeline was: Oct 11 - estimate appointment Oct 23 - received incomplete estimate Nov 2 - I emailed my need for additional info in the estimate Nov 2 - they wrote back acknowledging my request Nov 10 - I sent an email following up Nov 13 - I received the email saying they were busy with clients wanting work done for the holidays, but that they would revise the estimate and get back to me "ASAP" Nov 13 - I replied I would also like work done for the holidays, and was looking forward to seeing the completed estimate Jan 3 - I sent another follow up email, as well as leaving a voicemail. Given the lack of response to the Nov discussion, I sort of gave up on the hope of doing work before the holidays, and thought perhaps they would be more responsive after the holiday season. (I think I may have left some voicemails following up occasionally that are not noted here, but aside from the Jan 3 call I didn't make a note of it so I can't really say how much phone follow up I did.) At this point in the review its fair to ask why I didn't just go find another company. Frankly I didn't want to start the process of reading a ton of reviews and meeting with an estimator all over again, and the number of people having a good experience with this company on Angie's gave me hope that they were just overwhelmed with holiday work and would return to being responsive in the new year. At the end of the day I just want a company that will do good work and be pleasant to work with. It seems this company IS that for lots of other clients. But they wasted a SPECTACULAR amount of my time, and eventually stopped responding altogether, and that level of disregard for someone is unacceptable. Which is why I went with the F rating, despite my good experience with the estimator. I really hate leaving bad reviews on Angie's. Which is why I gave them so long to remedy this situation before posting this. But this was a very bad experience.

We were very happy with the outcome. Every item was installed according to plan and with care to center/level items and place them in the ideal locations.

Great! Everything was completed and Neal, the handyman, was terrific. He answered my question, scoped out the job and worked efficiently. I was very happy with the work.

This work was for my mother-in-law. She is elderly, and is very anxious about anyone doing things in her house. Hector and Jose were patient and compassionate with her, while quietly informing me (I stayed while they worked) of their progress. Hector warned me the ceiling should really be replaced, not repaired, but she would not tolerate more time-consuming work. He did a masterful job on the repair, and thinks it will last a while. She also would let Jose replace only the damaged ceiling tiles, not all, so he worked to fit the old with the new, which had to be hard. Also, the work was scheduled to take two days, but they pushed through to get it all done in one. The price was reasonable; the workmanship and professionalism excellent.

This contractor was upfront and honest. He told me what he could do, what he couldn't, and provided a partial fix until more extensive repairs could be scheduled. He charged me less than the ceiling amount I was quoted.

After I sent them an email explaining what I needed they responded within an hour with a very reasonable estimate for the work. After an exchange of a few more emails they scheduled the work for later in the week. I received a confirmation call the day before the work was scheduled. Mario, the technician, arrived exactly at the agreed upon time. He explained how he would perform the repair, and he was extremely professional and courteous. After he completed the work he reviewed what was done to repair the siding. I was very pleased with the quality of the repair work, and the excellent customer service provided by Mario. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to my neighbors or friends. I plan to use Jim the Handyman to fix several other things in my house that need professional attention including re-screening my back porch and replacing a section of rotted wood. .
