The gentleman came when he was supposed to, did the work well, and finished in a timely manner. I would definitely call this company again for this type of work.
Description of Work: I needed kick board installed at the base of a vanity in my bathroom and some spackling/painting to repair holes left by a something that was hanging on my hallway wall that had been removed. The work was relatively minor and the price reflected a $10 off coupon that I had. The $85 original estimate, however, would still have been very reasonable.

He sends out people who specialize in certain things. He’s sending out his carpenter for my door. The carpenter would come out for that. He used to do the work himself earlier. He’s very honest. His workers are always very nice and clean cut. They know their job. They are very professional. He comes out and does the estimate himself. I would use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: I use Jim the Handyman. I last used his services a couple of weeks ago. He came out to give an estimate on some work for me. It was for installing a hand rail and fixing a door that doesn’t shut right. When the wind blows in a certain way, the rain just comes under the door because the sill was not done correctly. So he was also going to correct and fix that. He’s installed screen doors for us in the past and also done little stuff around. He also plugged up some holes one time where mice were getting in. He found the holes and plugged them up for us. He pretty much does everything.

I called before doing the job to get an estimate. Was given a price of $75.00 for the job. When person came in and saw what he needed to do, changed the price to $110.00.All he did was cut a small piece of wood in a drawer with a router When I questioned him why the price was different from the one I was quoted , he did not have a legitimate reason he claimed that he had to wait five minutes for me. Prior to that I called him to say I was running a little bit late, I did not get any answer and left a message. To do the job he had to borrow a screwdriver from me since he did not bring any other tools, just the router. had to borrow an extension cord since he did not bring any with him to connect the router, had to borrow a vacuum cleaner from me since he did not bring any to clean the sawdust after the job was done(by the way, I vacuumed the floor) . Had to borrow three screwdrivers from me since he did not bring small wood wedges to support the piece of wood he glued to the drawer. By the way the piece of wood he glued to the drawer,I just realized now that it was not leveled. Basically, he did a shabby job. If you are going to perform a job, do it properly and bring the appropiate tools so you do not have to borrow anything from the client.
Description of Work: Basically the job was to cut a small piece of wood from a kitchen drawer so I could fit a utensil rack inside the drawer and then reglue the piece of wood to the drawer

We are sorry you had a negative experience but unfortunately not all of this information is correct, so please allow us to explain. Sometimes our customers think that are minimum charge ($75 at the time) is the charge for the job, but that is not the case but simply the minimum we would charge if the job is accepted. This is why we provide free estimates to all our customers - they can easily deny or accept the job and the price. The technician had to park his van far away due to this customer's home's location, so the technician simply asked if he could borrow some tools versus going back and forth to his van. If this was an issue, we wish the customer would have declined. The repair job was done on some rather flimsy drawers, so without replacing the entire drawer of piece of furniture, we really can't improve the quality of the furniture or how level it is. We would have been happy to do whatever else the customer wanted repaired or fixed, but these complaints were not voiced to us until this review. Next time give us a call please and we'll resolve the problem. Lastly, the appointment time was setup in advance, and our technician waited for 30 minutes beyond the appointment time, which is very atypical for us since we are in such high demand, and have to get on with our work day. We hope our perspective is considered, and you'll reach out next time you have a home project - we're sure we can satisfy you next time!

I am quite pleased with the service. Kelly arrived a little later than I expected, but he came ready to work and finished in a short amount of time. He helped me to figure out how to best place the framing tiles around the main tiles and the end results looks terrific. I am entirely pleased with the results. I would recommend Jim the Handyman without reservation and will be calling them again.

Jim arrived on time, moved and fixed the door frame and latch and door works like new. Very professional workmanship.
Description of Work: Screen door did not close properly. Jim first came out and looked at the problem (door frame misalighned) and provided an estimate and date in a week when he could come back and fix. Jim arrived on time and removed part of the door frame and moved in into proper position and secured with screws. Drilled out some of the metal to allow latch to fit properly also.

Very courteous and professional customer service. On March 22, an employee arrived at 9:30 a.m. and left at about 9:15 p.m. He worked slowly but was very careful and professional in completing very high-quality work. He cut into the wall and mounted a wooden beam necessary to hang a 45-pound mirror. He accommodated my on-site request to patch some holes in my upstairs master bedroom closets -- which ended up taking some hours to patch and then dry properly. Meanwhile, two other employees installed new closet doors with tracks in my downstairs rec room. On April 16, Jim and his son installed custom hanging closet doors in my upstairs guest bedroom. I asked Jim to adjust the height on the mirror that had been hung on March 22 b/c I wanted it lower to the dresser. Jim was able to do so without having to cut into the wall again, simply by moving the hooks on the back of the mirror. The April 16 work was done by 11 a.m. Overall a great experience with this company.
Description of Work: Actually two service dates: Tues March 22, 2011 (plaster hole in living room ceiling, hang 45-pound mirror, install closet doors in rec room, plaster holes in upstairs closet) and Sat April 16, 2011 (install closet doors in upstairs guest room, adjust height of mirror).

We had a broken glass pane in an older basement door. I was worried it was time to replace entire door (it is non-standard size), as we were also having trouble with it closing properly. Jim was able to come out for an estimate right away, and scheduled the work within days of the estimate. He arrived early (after calling to make sure that was okay), and finished the job swiftly and cleanly. He even took the time to answer a couple of my general handyman-type questions about our house. I will definitely be calling him again.
Description of Work: Replaced broken glass in an older French door. Also, corrected strike so that door closes and locks completely.

Jim Taylor is the handyman. He came in and we needed to replace a pocket door that had come off the railing. He had suggested that we go ahead and do a regular door and we agreed because we didn’t want to have it replaced it again. He special ordered the door and he came in and did the work. He also managed to shave a little bit of the door for my basement bathroom because we had done some work in our bathroom. The door was _______ the top of our new tiles and so he managed to take care of that. I wasn’t really expecting that. He put some access panels in our ceiling to cover up some water ______ access. I loved the fact that he was local and he was functional with everything. He did the work and it was very nice. I thought he went above and beyond what I had expected. He was very friendly. He is pretty popular around here. He lives pretty much right around the corner. I would definitely use him again.

We called Jim the Handyman to repair a step that began creaking after having carpet installed. Time was of the essence because our house was going up for sale within a few days and we didn?t want the creaking stair to greet prospective buyers. Jim the Handyman sent someone out the next day to provide an estimate. It turned out to be an easy fix, so they were able to fix the step on the spot. Since the job took only a few minutes and we would be charged $75.00 regardless of the amount of time this job took, the gentlemen who came over asked if we needed anything else fixed so that we could our money?s worth for his visit. Unfortunately, we did not, but we certainly appreciated his offer and the honest approach to pricing jobs. We would definitely recommend Jim the Handyman for their responsiveness and their business practices.

It went extremely well. Randy, who had come out previously to provide the estimate, returned to perform all of the work. Randy did a fantastic job with our shelving. He procured all of the materials and installed them to our complete satisfaction. We now have the storage space in our garage that we had always dreamed of! He also did a great job replacing a large support beam under our deck (Randy's prior job was in the deck manufacturing industry, so he really knew his stuff). And the miscellaneous jobs in the house were also successfully completed. Additionally, Randy completed the work ahead of time and on budget. We were extremely pleased and plan to use "Jim The Handyman" again later this year.
Description of Work: We contracted with the company to install custom shelving in our garage, to replace a splintered support beam under our deck, and also to perform some odds and ends around the house (tightened loose towel hooks, reinstalled mini vac to wall, repaired door on kids' play kitchen, etc.).

Description of Work: My condo association was unhappy about the condenser connection to the air conditioning unit. (its been there for 20 years) They wanted it removed or painted to the color of the siding. It was VERY expensive to remove it and redirect to an out of site connection (behind a bush). Jim's assistant came in and matched the color of the siding perfectly and painted the pipes so that they are hardly visible now. Excellent work and great price.

This was an extremely fair price for the work performed. He was polite and punctual. I would certainly use him for any household repairs in the future. Also, most important, he was willing to take the job. I contacted someone a friend recommended first, and then someone mentioned in Angie's list. They did not get back to me.
Description of Work: Jim showed up to fix a closet with a sliding door that had come unattached. His original estimate was $40. When he realized the nylon involved in the construction was worn, he said he would have to do more work and it would cost $85. He came back at a later date and fixed it for $85. Also, I had a loose stair railing that he fixed for an additional $10.

When I needed someone to plaster the hole in the bathroom ceiling (this had been repaired once before two years ago by a painter when I had my place painted and obviously this was not in his area of expertise as it fell apart about six months later) I decided to try Angie's list. When I searched for someone to plaster I was absolutely delighted to see Jim the Handyman's name come up as a choice. I had used them once before to replace all of my old metal closet doors with new wooden ones. Jim did an excellent/professional job so I didn't look any further and gave them a call. They made an appointment with me for someone to come out and give me a free estimate. That experience was extremely pleasant and they were very accommodating to my schedule. Michael, their plastering expert, come out to look at what needed to be done. He was on time and very professional. He also did a very rare thing - he actually listened to my description and history of the problem without trying to rush through everything. He then explained to me what he felt needed to be done to the bathroom ceiling. I also showed him the problem from the caustic cap to see if anything could be done as I did not have a piece of the vinyl floor tile to replace the damaged one. After explaining some possibilities to me, he said he would be willing to try. He left the estimate of $275.00 which included the paint for the ceiling and all materials for the hole and materials he would be using for the floor tile. I called the next morning to make an appointment to have the work done and again she was great working with my schedule. Michael arrived on time and started working on the bathroom ceiling. About three hours later he called me in to look at it and WOW -- I could not even see where it had been or any signs of work having been done. It looked like a brand new ceiling! He then explained to me what had caused the problem and how he had fixed it. He then took me into the second bathrroom and showed me the repaired tile. It was perfect! I wasn't sure if that ever could be repaired without my having to put in a new floor but he did it. Thank you Michael! The next time I need any work done I will come to Angies list and look up Jim the Handyman to see if it is a service they provide before looking anywhere else!
Description of Work: Repaired a hole in bathroom ceiling plus painting ceiling, Repaired a circular dark stain from a caustic cap that had eaten through one of the vinyl floor tiles in a second bathroom.

My experience with Jim the Handyman was 100% positive. He came on time, he was polite, affordable, and did a fast and quality job installing shoe molding and fixing my bathroom door. I asked him for an estimate to do additional carpentry work - he took the time to review my request and came up with a reasonable solution to a base board issue we were having, and gave us a very reasonable estimate for that and other work. I intend to have him do this additional work. So far, my experience has been all good.
Description of Work: A different contractor did a very poor job of installing shoe molding (among other things) in our newly purchased home. The molding was installed with at least a 1/2 inch gap from the wall (and this was in my foyer!) and he used unfinished pine molding instead of the matching oak molding he himself had put aside for the job! That experience prompted me to join Angie's list and my contacting Jim the Handyman was the first time I'd used this resource. I had Jim the Handyman remove the improper shoe molding and install the correct material and I asked him to shave a bathroom door that wouldn't close.

The representative from Jim the Handiman came to our home and provided a free estimate. I compared all my previous estimates and they were in the same ball park, but the gentleman from Jim the Handiman seemed to have the most complete understanding of what I wanted. He replaced some damaged drywall and quarter round that had deteriorated in my solarium. In addition, he also replaced the wood transition between my hard wood floor and my staircase. The day before the scheduled work, I received a phone call from their company reminding me of the appointment which was very helpful. On the day of the work however, the handiman arrived 10 minutes later than their agreed upon time. Once he arrived and got started however, it was all business and he did a fantastic job fixing the drywall in the solarium and the staircase. I would gladly use them again.

I used Angie's List to select three handymen for estimates. I called Jim the Handyman and left a message. I called again several days later and after talking to Jim's wife discovered I had a problem with my phone recording messages. She had called the same day I called and left a message. I scheduled an appointment for an estimate at 9:30 AM on 6/30. Jim's wife called on the day of the estimate to inform me that Jim would be a few minutes late - something I appreciated. I showed Jim the problem in the family room and he told me how the work would be done. His explanation was less labor intensive than a previous estimate. I then showed him the mirror to be hanged. Jim gave me what I thought was a fair price and explained that Randy would be doing the work. I told him I thought it was odd, but I had just received a coupon for $10 off the previous day. Jim's wife called the night before to remind me that Randy would be coming at 11:30AM - again appreciated. He actually arrived early and began work on the ceiling. It was not always easy to find a ceiling joist - but he did. After installing all the screws Randy covered up the screw heads. Next, he vacuumed up the debris. The mirror had two hooks on the back with instructions not to use a wire. Randy did not use hooks, but a device that went into the wall - not a molly bolt - to hang the the mirror. After several attempts the mirror was at the correct height and level as verified with a non-wooden level. Randy explained that wooden levels had a tendency to warp. Randy did an excellent job and was not discouraged in finding the ceiling joists or getting the mirror "just" right. I definitely recommend Jim the Handyman if you need a "handyman".

Great! Jim came over himself to do the estimate and arrived exactly when scheduled. We set up a time the following week for the repairs and he told me right away the name of the man coming to do the work (Michael). The day of the repairs, Michael called to say he was running a little late, which I appreciated. Once he arrived, I showed him the areas needing repair and he got right to work. He started on the bathroom ceiling so the mud would have time to dry. Then he fixed the handrails by installing bigger brackets and larger screws. THe handrails are now tight and actually flush to the wall (original builders did a sloppy job). Then w\he went back to finish the bathroom ceiling, including priming and repainting. He brought the primer and I supplied the paint since I had the original paint on hand. Michael was very good about putting drop cloths down and cleaning up after himself. There was naturally a good amount of dust in the bathroom from the sanding that had to be done, so I still vacuumed/mopped and wiped everything down after he left before putting all our stuff back on the counters. Since this was his last job of the day, Michael was also very nice about leaving for a short break while I went to pick my kids up from day care since they were closing. He was back exactly at the time we agreed on. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work and will definitely use this company again if needed.
Description of Work: Repaired loose, poorly installed handrails on staircase and fixed a ceiling patch job we didn't do very well ourselves the first time.

Outstanding work, done quickly, on time. I would rate Jim the Handiman a "10 out of 10". He will be the first service I call for any home repairs going forward.
Description of Work: We needed repairs to three doors. Jim adjusted the front door so the dead bolt and lower lock aligned properly. He also completely re-aligned and adjusted a storm door that had been improperly re-installed after some trim repair work. The front door works perfectly now and the storm door looks and works like it was newly installed - very impressive work. An exterior garden door was damaged due to improper use and Jim reinstalled the top hinge, again the door works perfectly.
