Jim the Handyman

The work was done in less than an hour and looks perfect. Jim and his team are our go-to guys when we have jobs beyond our skills or requiring tools we lack.

The workman gave a job price of $180 to hang the bracket and lift the three cabinets onto the bracket. He said that they charged $60 per cabinet and considered this three cabinets, even though it was just one bracket holding all three. Did not get an estimate for the closet doors...just assumed it wouldn't cost very much. I thought the $180 was high for installing the bracket. Felt it should have really been $60 for the single bracket, but didn't want to contact another handyman service because I had taken off of work for this appointment, and I needed the work done. The total bill was $300 for three hours work. $100 an hour for a handman service seems unreasonably expensive to me, more than my dentist...but my own fault. The workman was very personable and punctual. The garage cabinet were hung perfectly. The bottom of one closet door was shorter than the one next to it.

Jim Taylor and his staff were professional and he arrived exactly when expected. He told me the french door opening size and said if I could get the particular size he could do the job for $250. The price was fair but I could not find that size anywhere and will get an elite custom place to build a sophisticated screen and put it in. I will give Mr. Taylor a try on some other stuff and I feel bad that I could not hire him for this job as I know his time is valuable.

Alex was on time, extremely helpful and very diligent with all his efforts. His work on the custom box was stellar. He basically came up with a solid, good looking design and built it within a few hours. I am thrilled with the end result and I will definitely hire this company again! Thank you!

We liked him a lot. He gives an estimate ahead of time. He comes on time. He has a nice demeanor and does quality work. He is reliable.

This the second time i have used them. Both times they showed up when they said. The work on my door was done very well. The only complaint would be the caulking. He left gaps on the bottom side of each piece of siding.

Luke efficiently performed all tasks professionally. I've used his services multiple times and will continue to since he has never disappointed. I'm sure other employees of this company are very capable also. Roz, the office manager, is helpful and responsive to questions. This is my "go to" company for the services they provide. I can always count on them! I never make a service decision without consulting Angie's List.

My screen door had been broken up by the wind and Jim the Handyman repaired it. He also put new weather stripping on the front door. He did it pretty fast and it looked pretty good. He seemed very competent and he had his own tools. It wasn't Jim, he has several people working for him. There was a $5 off coupon in your book, but it isn't shown on the invoice so I don't know if it was applied.

We needed some wooden shelves installed in two built-in closets. Jim did a very good job. The shelves he had made fit precisely and the installation is solid and well made. He was punctual, very courteous, prompt and tidy.

Good company, will definately use them again. They were better priced then some of the other estimates I got and very professional.

Overall everything was great. He came on time for both the estimate and back again to do repairs. Great job.

I had another handyman come by and he had nothing but excuses for why he couldn't deliver on the project. Needless to say, I fired him and what a relief when Jim showed up. He was prompt and had all the materials he needed to do the work. The house has double wooden doors from which the weather strips had worn off exposing my front entry to cold drafts and little critters. Jim replaced both weather strips and made sure there were no gaps along the bottom of both doors. He trouble shooter a small space between the edge of one door and the bolt that locks it into the door frame. He did all of this quietly and efficiently. Then he did the same to my back French doors. No more drafts and spiders in the front entryway. He spent almost an hour on the whole project. Afterwards, he vacuumed his workspace. I've already lined him up to do additional repairs e.g., repairing som woodrot to the base of my columns on the front porch.

The little things I needed done were frustrating me because I didn't have the time and/or skill to fix them myself, but they seemed very small to call a professional about. Finally I looked here on Angie's List for a handyman, and chose Jim the Handyman. I called after-hours and left a message requesting a quote. I got a call back the next business day, and we arranged a time for an estimate. The estimator was able to come after the work day at 7pm, which was convenient. I got a written estimate that same day, and we arranged for the work to be done a couple of weeks after the estimate. The worker showed up on the day scheduled, and the work was completed the same day, as promised. The charge was also as promised. The work was just as I would have liked it -- the address numbers were installed on a plaque just as we talked about. The windowsills were repaired and painted so you couldn't tell the work was ever done. The caulking was clean and neat. The outside door trim looks good. I was really happy overall. The process was painless and the quality was good. What more could I ask for? Just to be clear, Jim the Handyman is a company that employs more than one person. I gather there are at least two actual handymen, plus an estimator, plus a dispatch person. This wasn't a problem, but if you're expecting a one-man show from the name of the business, they seem to have grown beyond that a little.

He gives the quote to you on the spot and he handles small jobs too. All of his estimates were reasonable as well.

Jim showed up on a Friday nite and did a quick estimate. The original visit was to look at a sliding patio door that was hard to close...he looked at and figured out it was off the track. He made the adjustments and the door works fine. He listened to our concept for a wood vented box cover over the litter box. A week later he installed it and fits perfect. I called the office prior to Jim's return visit to add more work in haning some kitchen storage units and magnetic boards...no problem putting it on the schedule. Everything done professionally.

Jim came to give us an estimate and was extremely helpful, very friendly and capable. It was easy to work with him through multiple projects we needed help with. We were on the schedule in only a few short days. One of Jim's servicemen came to work with us and, despite having to stay until 9pm or so, finished our projects. It was a great experience!

Someone from Jim the Handyman came to give us a free estimate for the work. Once we got the estimate, we scheduled the work. The guys who came to do the work were very polite and professional, and they did a great job. The chimney repair was more complicated and took longer than expected, but they stayed until the job was done and cleaned up.

The header to our front door had begun to pull away from the house, causing a gap between the header and the side of the house. This was causing rain to seep into the wall. They came out quickly to evaluate the problem, and provided an estimate on what it would take to fix, and the cost for the work. They came out within a week to complete the work. He first cleaned out the gap and checked to make sure there was no additional damage before reattaching the header with screws. After making sure it was firmly attached, he recaulked the entire header and then repainted the area with the house paint that I had provided. He even replaced the burnt out light bulb in the front light, and then cleaned up everything. They were done in about a hour, and the cost was what they estimated. Extremely professional and friendly. We have some additional small jobs that we will be calling him back for.

After contacting Jim The Handyman through Angie's List, I immediately received a call from Roz who coordinated the whole thing. Not only did she schedule someone to come out, but she called a couple times to confirm the date. I didn't get the gentleman's name that came to my house, but he arrived on time and completed the work professionally, quickly, and with a smile on his face. I wish all my dealings with contractors went this smoothly. I will definitely be using them again.

I am so impressed with Jim the Handyman. From speaking with Roz on the phone and having Dave come for an estimate and then return to do the work. It was seamless, and the work is flawless. They are definitely on my referral list now, and I would use their services again in a heartbeat.

Very smooth. Called up and made the appointment, and they gave me the option of having him do the work then and there if I liked the (free) estimate. They called the night before to remind me and Jim called me within the window to let me know where he was and more exactly when he'd be at my house. I was fine with the estimate, he did the job quickly, and the door now latches properly.

Excellent. He arrived on time, provided an estimate and completed the work within an hour or so. I was very happy with his work. Now that the cold weather has set in, I can verify that the draft has been stopped.
