I was really pleased with the work in the bathroom/dressing room area. Mike did excellent work in this area. In the area around where the secretarial phone used to be, he did not fill in a couple of small dents in the wall. But otherwise that area looks a lot better. I need to call them back to have that area completed. I have a few more small jobs that I need to have done, and I will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Mike caulked and replaced grouting around the bathtub/shower area. Fixed a rough patch in the dry wall above sink in bathroom/dressing room area. Patched area around where secretarial phone used to be in the kitchen.

Jim came out to the house personally and provided a free estimate. We scheduled the date for the work on 7 February. I gave a B rating on punctuality, since the workers arrived that day 30 minutes past the end of the two hour window for arrival. However, Kelly and Neil did an outstanding job performing all the nit-noid items of work that needed to be done around the house. The main work involved replacing a section of drywall on a bathroom ceiling below the toilet that had leaked in a bathroom the floor above. They were very careful to remove the old drywall and complete this repair without damaging the decorative border that meets right at the ceiling plane. We could not replace the border as that pattern is no longer available. Kelly taped and finished the drywall and painted it without a trace of it ever being damaged and with absolutely no joints showing. Perfect job. While Kelly worked on the ceiling, Neal tackled most of the other repairs to include re-caulking bathtub and sink in bath on 2nd floor, re-caulking lavatory on 1st floor, repairing various cracks in drywall throughout the house, and performing some shower re-caulking as warranty work from their previous work in August 2013. This company performs all work with excellence, and they waste no time. They get the job done in one day. I believe their prices are more than reasonable for the high quality and expediency of their work. See my other review after they did work for me in August 2013. I definitely will call on them again in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall ceiling and miscellaneous caulking repairs.

It went well. The guys were on time and worked quickly and I am very pleased. thanks
Description of Work: Jim the Handyman hung decorative curtain rods on 9 windows, took out an old medicine cabinet, did drywall and some painting and hung a mirror. They also installed a bunch of kitchen cabinet knobs on my cabinets that had no knobs. They did a great job, quick and professional. this is the second time I have used this company and would use them again. I am always leery of hiring contractors to do stuff and have had some bad experiences in the past with a couple of them but this was a good experience. They also did some work for me last month and did a great job then as well.

Jim the Handyman was wonderful. They did a great job.
Description of Work: He did a lot of handyman stuff around the house. They re-caulked crown molding and stairway molding. The painted banisters. They put in new caulking in the kitchen. They shored up a sagging corner on the counter. They painted little things in the house. They fixed a door for us and rehung it. They also fixed our front door.

Jim came out as scheduled to give us an estimate for several small jobs in our home including rehanging doors, installing baseboard molding in several rooms, repairing a loose shutter etc. He was friendly and polite and indicated he would not be able to complete the work until after the holidays. Due to a weather related cancellation his crew arrived two days later and completed all the work. The two guys that did the work, Kelly and Neal, were efficient and respectful of our home and did a fine job. While the crew was here I thought of another job I needed done; a small tiling project. Kelly called Jim and got the price of the work. He completed that job as well. We were very impressed and would definitely use the services of this company again.

Jim and his staff are very dependable, which had been the issue with the original person contracted to do this job. I appreciated the phone calls to confirm and update appointments. Tim, the installer, worked in spite of the cold weather and did a great job. I look forward to utilizing Jim's crew again.

We had asked him to spackle/sand some other areas outside the laundry room to even it out and he didn’t do as good a job as we would have hoped. He did an OK job overall. The prices seemed a bit on the high end. He was punctual and completed the work in the time frame he indicated he would. Again, they are not cheapest but they get the job done. I’ve recommended them to other family members.
Description of Work: We are renovating a house to get it ready to sell and he completed a small amount of drywall work in the laundry room . The work took about 3-4 hours. This is the second time we’ve used Jim the Handyman.

Dear [Member Name Removed], I called your wife and left her a message to call me back, so that we can go back and tweak the work for no charge. All you need to do is give us a call to come back, or any company should be called back when things need adjusting. When doing drywall work, it looks great one day, and then the next day it dries and needs some more attention. We can do more fixing if you want us to go back. Jim Taylor

The process was not smooth. Mr. Taylor is not much on communication and he never informed me when the cost was rising compared to his written estimate. This is an essential crux of customer service when it comes to his type of work. I found out at the end of the project that it was to cost nearly 20% more than the estimate. This type of surprise is unacceptable. Mr. Taylor did agree to come down on price slightly, but the damage was already done. An honest businessman must clearly communicate to the client whenever the written estimate is increasing. On a quality level, I am disappointed with one costly aspect. The closet shelving is still holding, but one set of closet doors was a total loss. This is an update from my initial review. The closet doors installed in one of my rooms did not last more than five months before beginning to fall off. Mr. Taylor stated on-site that this was a difficult installation and he did a lot of trimming to make the doors fit. However, the workmanship was a disaster. He trimmed too much wood off the doors and there was nothing left but a paper-thin wood layer holding in the inner hardware. I was informed that the installation was difficult, but Mr. Taylor should have informed me that this type of work was beyond his ability. I had to discard the original closet doors ($170) and purchase new ones. I would have much preferred that he back away from this task rather than try to take a shot, which cost me extra money for new doors and installation. Based on this development, I had to change my ratings. In an awkward exchange, I told Mr. Taylor that, although I was not pleased with his skyrocketing final price, I would give him a good review based on the quality of his work. I initially did just that, so I don't see why Mr. Taylor felt the need to call me a liar. This update downgrades my assessment of his quality since the closet doors were not handled properly. Under normal circumstances, I would have contacted the handyman to explain the situation and ask for repairs to be done at no cost to me. I did not feel comfortable doing this due to the tense exchanges in person and via Angie's List. Also, I have a policy against going back to a worker who has already shown once that work quality is sub-par.

We are sorry you had a bad experience but we want to clarify a few things. We did a free in-home, written estimate for this customer. This estimate was itemized, and there was no mention of painting the inside of the closets, nor putting in baseboards. The estimate was shown in writing to the customer and none of this extra work was communicated. These two additional items came up while we were doing the job and after the estimate was approved. Therefore these items were not itemized on the estimate, and the extra work had to be charged to the customer, and were not free of charge. We ran out of time on Monday, as there was extra work, so I rescheduled to come back on Saturday and all of the work was completed. The customer made the comment to me that he was going to give me a great rating on Angie's List and we never called him a liar, but observed that was not the case despite going out of the way to make this job go well. We suggest to all our customers that they read and review their estimates prior to booking the job so situations like this can be avoided. In fact we even follow up with our customers to ensure they received their estimates, and ask if they want to move forward with all of the items listed. None the less, we are sorry this rare negative occurrence happened.

Overall, we were very impressed with their work. The only snag in our experience was punctuality. We were told they were coming between 9-11am and the staff did not arrive until 11:30am. Fortunately, two people came instead of one and they worked very efficiently, which made up some time on the other end. Very professional and experienced staff. Would definitely hire again.

Jim's handyman for the area, Dave, came over first to assess the situation and give me an estimate on every job I requested. He went through the whole house with me to look and write up the job. He was very honest and helpful and even suggested a few things that would save some money. After we were done he gave me an onsite estimate of everything and said when/if I am ready to call in and schedule an appt. Roz called me from the office a few days later and I booked an appt about 3 weeks later. Dave came on the specified days and did all the work agreed upon -except for one thing we determined wouldn't work. He also bought and brought the wood for the deck and shelves for the closet and also picked up the storm door for me. Dave did everything with minimal interference and questions - he just did what he was suppose to do. He was polite and helpful and trustworthy. I was very happy with all the work done and would use Jim the Handyman again for sure. They charge by the job, not by the hour - so you can get an estimate of all the stuff you want done and then pick which you can do now and what you would do later.

Used Jim a couple years ago for some tiling in the kitchen. It went great. Since we've been in this house one bathroom door would not close or lock properly. Before repainting I wanted to get the lock fixed. Jim arrived spot on time, looked at the door, and then proceeded to tell me how I could fix it myself in 20 minutes! He provided a written estimate of $85 (minimum labor charge) for one of his men to do it, but his explanation convinced me that I could do it myself. AND, no charge as it was a free estimate. We definitely will use Jim for any future projects. You can trust him.

Kelly was on-time for the estimate and only 20 minutes late on the day of the actual job due to delays from their last job. Kelly and one other man arrived at 11:20 AM with all the supplies needed to complete the job. I was somewhat dubious about whether they could actually finish all the work on my list by the end of the day. I watched them work the entire time and they were very proficient in all respects. The landscape logs were very difficult to remove, but these guys knew exactly how to cut and remove the rotted logs and installed the new logs. They look great! Once the log work was completed, they moved to my master bathroom and proceeded to complete all the work in a most professional manner. They cut no corners to insure that all the old caulk and any residual mold was eliminated. The drywall repair was absolutely excellent in all respects. I can state with no hesitation that their work was top notch and I wholeheartedly recommend Jim the Handyman for anyone needing their services. Their prices were very reasonable and I will have them back someday, as needed. It is comforting to know that there are companies like "Jim the Handyman" out there. Thanks, Kelly.
Description of Work: Replaced two 8 LF pressure treated landscape logs that were rotted. Repaired wall and re-caulked existing 60 vanity in master bathroom. Removed and replaced existing shower glass door side and bottom channels to re-caulk/seal leaking bottom channel. Repaired deteriorated drywall next to shower that was damaged due to leaks of bottom shower door channel, and painted same. Removed all old sealant in tiled shower, applied mold killing liquid (bleach), dryed thoroughly and re-sealed all major joints in shower. Cleaned, oiled and restored existing bathroom vent fan which had frozen and no longer worked.

Thanks for your review. We do state that our minimum labor charge is $85.00 to do any jobs. This is still a good price, as most legitimate handyman services want $125.00 - $200.00 for the first hour of labor. We just want to let the public know this, but thanks for the feedback though!

Best estimate by far. Luke did an awesome job. Good craftsmanship. Finished in one day. Clearly cares about his work. Polite, professional. Very nice. See above paragraph which includes the excellent outcome. I look forward to hiring this company again.
Description of Work: Jim-the-Handyman came to the house to see the jobs needed, gave an accurate estimate, arrived precisely on time for the repair work, performed the work professionally and then, upon my request, described ways he would fix other problems. He corrected soffit to ceiling cracks--metal to plaster--by taping and spakling, then primed the surfaces for painting. He applied grout as needed to several areas and corrected a metal door closure to my satisfaction. I asked him to look at several other handyman jobs I needed and he gave estimates for that time and cost. We agreed on a day for further work. I highly recommend this person for handyman services--he is the owner and does all of the work.
