Jim the Handyman

We provided wood material [ already primed and painted w. 3 coats of paint pieces of wood. ] a) The garage trim design was not an easy right angle but colonial style cornered - [ vertical meets a diagonal piece meets horizontal ]. b) The board's width also had to be stripped down to size. RESULT: His cuts were accurate and fit together well w. the sound wood. The wood trim was restored to accurate size. Note: He did this OUTDOOR job in Feb. when the temperature was 26 degrees. OOPS: By fall, we noticed a gap developing - probably due to effect of original temps versus summer temps on caulking. We could just see the possibility of water getting in, freezing this winter and rotting again. A Response Team came out to clean out caulk and used wood screws to tighten the fit. We're now happy.

This is a wonderful service. We have had other jobs done in the past. Very professional and courtesy!. The did all the jobs quickly and very reasonably. It may take a little while for the appointment for the worth but well worth it. We intend to use this handyman service often.

I have used Jim the Handyman for ongoing support. I do not know why its not showing up on my list. He is very handy and shows up promptly on time. Does professional work no matter what is required. I would hire him over and over again.

Jim the Handyman came through once again! After they completed the work on our basement (previous review) we decided to have them complete the work on a second estimate, a hole in our family room ceiling. We, again, had a water issue with our master bathroom toilet leaking that led to water damage in our family room ceiling. In trying to find the problem, a sizable hole was cut into the ceiling to inspect the pipes. Once it was determined that no pipes were leaking and that the water "found its way" from a loose toilet supply, we waited to make sure the issue was solved before we had the damage repaired. Roz from Jim the Handyman sent the same crew (Kelly and Luke) and although they did arrive late (from other jobs), they quickly got to work moving out the larger pieces of furniture (we moved what we could) and proceeded to drop cloth our entire family room , kitchen and dining room (all hard wood floors) and cover all our appliances and cabinets with plastic. Once they started, they kept me informed during the entire process, first as they started to assess the damage and tell me how they would repair and then on progress (2 times). Seven and a half hours later, the repairs were complete, the entire ceiling was painted (family room, kitchen, dining room), the work cleaned up and our furniture back in its place as if the damage never happened. In fact, the repair was better than the original work competed on the house. My wife, who came home towards the end of the job, was VERY happy that the hole was gone. As I said earlier, this is the second job that Jim the Handyman has done at our home and we have been VERY PLEASED and plan on having them do more in the future. They are by far the most courteous and professional group we have worked with since buying our home n 2013. NOTE: that although they were late for this job, they already had the supplies and still completed the work the same day!

Jim arrived on time and was professional in appearance and demeanor. He adjusted the hinges of the garage entry door to allow sufficient room for the door to close properly (during the summer heat the door edge was hitting the frame). He also adjusted two bifold closet doors to achieve a proper fit and smooth operation. One of the bifolds required sanding. All three doors are working great. Jim demonstrated expertise during the repairs and he was careful with his equipment to protect my home. This was my first service call from Jim the Handyman and I would hire them again.

Kelly came to the house in July to give me an estimate. He was clear about the type of work that they could do, and they emailed a detailed estimate within a few days. I was delayed calling back, but in mid-August I finally set up an appointment for September. The scheduler called to remind me of the appointment two days beforehand. Jim showed up at the appointed time, and his two assistants, who picked up supplies, called to let me know when they would arrive. Jim did the work around the doors, while Kelly and Luke worked on the porch railings and windows. They did a wonderful job; working non-stop the whole time they were here. I didn't think they would finish it all, but they stayed until 7:30PM on a Friday night to get the job done. The cost was as estimated. I was delighted to have so much work completed in one day, and with an accurate estimate of the costs.

The contractor showed on time and provided weather stripping, caulking around back splash for three bathrooms, and a few other odd jobs. Mr. Jim understood my physical limitations and was willing to complete the small jobs. He was a delight to chat with after the work was done.

Easy to schedule, Jim showed up on time, and he re-attached the door quickly but professionally.

Using simple tools and a few screws, was able to reseat the door using items from his travelling workshop (Van)..

Luke was fantastic, moving from one job to the other and doing it right the first time.

What I like about it is that it's a family run operation. It's a mother and father and son and I really like that. The son came. He was so wonderful because I had all these odd jobs. Not all handymen do odd jobs. They were just little jobs that my husband and I couldn't do, like putting two cabinet doors back on that were loose. The hardest job was, we have one of those things that comes down and hides your appliances. It had been broken for years. It really couldn't be fixed the right way because it wasn't put in right. But, he worked on that all day between other jobs. They gave me an estimate of $268. They also plastered and painted. I had a whole list of things. They put on a strip that came off my cabinet. They put up an outside thing that holds flowers. My husband had put it out and it was really crooked and he put that up straight. He kept going back to this cabinet and he really spent more time on it than he expected. I gave him extra money because I just felt bad because he really spent much more time on it. He did such a great job. It works so much better. Now, I can open and close it. I gave him $300. I should have given him more with his time. He spent more time than he thought and I wanted to be fair. He is my handyman if I ever need a handyman.

They did a great job. I was happy with his work. It took him about three hours to do it. He made it look like new. He made it look like it never happened. It was an excellent job done. He was good. The price was compatible. It was what I would have expected. It wasn't outrageous. He came as scheduled. He absolutely knew what he was doing. I had no doubt about that. He just came in and took charge and did it.

In April 2014 we had a lot of water damage in our basement that resulted in the removal of the bottom quarter of two wall in our basement as well as the the insulation, baseboard and carpeting. Although we had the source fixed (crack in the wall), we had been waiting for a couple of big rains before we repaired the damage to make sure the fix was done correctly. This summer, we contacted three (3) companies for estimates and chose Jim the Handyman. Not only was he lowest, but the first review I read was for the exact work I wanted completed. Kelly came out for the estimate based on my availability, which is kind of unusual, and was professional and courteous. Scheduling the work was a breeze as well. On the day of the job, Luke arrived first with the tools and to get a paint sample for the walls. While he was gone, Kelly arrived with the supplies and set up in our garage. Once both were on site, the work commenced immediately, efficiently and completely to my satisfaction. The work was completed in ONE DAY and it looks like we NEVER had any water damage. In fact, the work was done so well, it is better than the undamaged work in our basement. Kelly and Luke did a FANTASTIC job from beginning to end. Not only was it like the damage never took place, you could not even tell that they were here to do the work. They completely cleaned up in the basement and in the garage. We were so impressed that we will be bringing them back to do other work in our house very soon!

This work might sound insignificant, but the holes were huge and the damage was profound. Dave's sheetrocking skills were nothing short of artistic. The seams were flawlessly finished. Regarding the window, before we contacted Jim the Handyman, we had been given an estimate of $1200+++ just for the kitchen window, and JTH only charged $575. That's an amazing price difference. Aside from the superior quality of Dave's work, I cannot say enough about the level of professionalism extended to us by the JTH staff. Dave was always on time and very courteous. Roz, who runs the administrative side of things, always kept us updated on the progress step by step. I can't say enough good things about this company. The work and people are truly first rate in every respect.

He was efficient and arrived right on time. He gave the quote prior to starting the work.

I called and Jim's wife Roz answered. She was nice and had someone over in two days to give an estimate. After the estimate which was done in the evening, they e-mailed me the next day with pricing and I called to schedule. As you can image they were busy, luckily they had a date a week out that was available. Roz called the day before to confirm and Luke showed up within the window time. Luke took the time to cover my book shelf and carpet. He was very neat. he worked hard and fast to complete the jobs and was kind enough to answer my questions. The results on the walls and the post are AMAZING. You can barely tell that the wall was patched up or that the outside post had any damage what so ever. I would hire again in a heart beat.

Arrived on time and worked professionally through the list. He was very clear on what he was doing and I had no questions about the work. At one point he had to leave to get some materials, but did not charge for the time. Overall, a very good experience

Just a pleasure. Rapid response to our request, very punctual scheduling of estimate, clear estimate, and then worked with us on scheduling. Work itself is excellent, actually better than new with better material. Second time we've used them and it was a pleasure both times.

Awesome job. They installed a new dryer ventilation system and did a wonderful job. We also had them paint our stairwell, which they also did a great job with. Excellent prices.

I called Jim the Handyman to restore part of our basement, which suffered water damage from a pipe burst during the winter. Everything about the experience was really efficient and professional. Roz was able to schedule us quickly for an estimate. After that, we scheduled the work for 3 weeks later. As expected, the job took two full days. On Day 1, Mike and Dave did the drywall and carpentry work. On Day 2, Mike returned to do the painting. The final cost of the job was the exact amount we agreed to in the estimate. Everything was 100% honest and straight forward. Afterward, we asked Mike to stay an extra hour to check a problem in our duct work. Since that was additional, unplanned work, there was a small extra charge, but that was well worth it. Overall, this was a great experience with Jim the Handyman. I will definitely call them again.

The reason for a low grade is for poor customer service. When I did cancel, Robyn clearly was aggravated by it and ultimately hung up on me. I will absolutely not recommend them, nor try to use them again in the future. It's unfortunate seeing as how I've had several neighbors inquire about a good handyman service.

I picked Jim from the great reviews he had on Angies List. From calling to make an appointment to completion of the job, this was a great experience that exceeded my expectations and I could not be happier with the quality of the work performed. You will not go wrong hiring Jim the Handyman.

Fantastic Service!!! After a major water leak in my kitchen from the cold left it in ruins, I was looking for quality work at an honest price. I had decided to redo my kitchen from the walls up and Jim's quote was fair and honest. Kelley (his assistant) did all the work including the drywall replacement and installation of the new kitchen cabinets I ordered. The drywall replacement took a day and a half which included re-insulating the wall and putting better insulation in parts that weren't previously. The crew did a great job and the wall was ready for painting right on schedule. Kelley also installed all my new kitchen cabinets himself!! It took him 2 days but they looked great when they were done!!! He even helped me install my new microwave which had arrived before the rest of the appliances. Overall I was EXTREMELY satisfied with the work performed and I would absolutely use Jim and his crew again!!!
