Description of Work: They performed lead testing using up-to-date procedures and proper equipment. We had them come in b/c our insurance company used an inferior company who used out-dated procedures. We questioned the validity of the first companies results. Geller came out and was able to provide thorough testing and results. Additionally, because this was related to an insurance claim due to damage to our home and time was of the essence, they made an effort to fit us into their schedule quickly.

Description of Work: They came the same day I called and tested textured ceiling and 4 layers of vinyl flooring in my 1970's house. Test results came back 24 hrs later--they put in a rush order to let me know before Christmas. So glad I had them test because bottom two layers of vinyl contained asbestos. I shudder to think that I almost started major renovation that would've posed a health hazard to my family. Outstanding service from beginning to end. Very reasonably priced and no conflict of interest because they do not offer asbestos removal. Would highly recommend Geller!

Within two weeks all arrangements were finalized, the "players" schedules coordinated, and work commenced. First was the removal of the asbestos and air monitoring. Once the asbestos was removed, a licensed asbestos project monitor conducted a post-abatement visual inspection and final air sampling. Upon completion of all tests, the technician stated that all were completed satisfactorily and that the area was safe for habitation. This was later confirmed in a written report to the effect that all samples collected met all current clearance criteria. The monitor arrived soon after asbestos abatement was completed. All tests and inspection were performed quickly, efficiently, and professionally. I'm pleased to have accepted the recommended service and would certainly recommend others do the same and to engage Geller Environmental Labs to perform the required tasks.
Description of Work: The annual inspection of our oil-fired boiler was meticulous (Appleton-Campbell) and detected serious deterioration. The house is nearly 100 years old; the boiler was initially coal-fired but at some point converted to oil. The boiler and a portion of the "out-bound" water pipes were covered with asbestos "mud." In anticipation of the removal/replacement of the boiler, asbstos abatement was contracted (Young Envioronmental Services). Included in the Young estimate was the recommendation that "air monitoring" by Geller Environmental Labs be included, although not required in Virginia. We accepted both the abatement and the optional air monitoring service.

Jack (the owner) was fantastic to work with. He and his colleague were prompt and professional the day of the service and did a nice job explaining what they were looking for and why they were doing the things they did. And, after the service call, they spent considerable time on the phone with us answering all our questions (my wife asks a lot of questions). I would definitely use Geller again and recommend them to others.
Description of Work: I have a house under contract for purchase and I had the company come out to test for lead and asbestos. They used the XRF gun for lead and collected samples of building materials that might contain asbestos to send to the lab for assessment.

Overall the experience with Geller went well, except for the fact that I did have asbestos in my kitchen floor. Not that this was there fault, but they did provide a very professional and timely service to me. Additionally, they were also willing to provide the names of other companies to do the removal of the floor to avoid any conflicts of interest.
Description of Work: Geller Environmental Labs tested my kitchen floor for the presence of asbestos and provided a lab report to confirm the results.

Easy to schedule an appointment. Person I spoke with was friendly and described the testing process in detail. The technician arrived promptly and spent about 20 minutes collecting samples of the ceiling tiles and adhesive. Within 3 days I had the content results back from the lab via email. Easy!

Description of Work: Geller Environmental Labs analyzed tile in my basement, which was found to be asbestos. They came to my house; took samples of the tile, which I already suspected was asbestos; and looked around the ducts in the basement and attic to see if any more asbestos was present in the house.

I e-mailed Geller labs, received a very quick response from the owner, Jack, and we set-up a meeting for later that week (a Friday). The inspector, Paul, was there on-time (in fact, early), was very professional and thorough and went beyond the scope of the work by looking at my paint to see if it was potentially lead-based. He took the samples in a very quick, but detailed manner. I received a phone-call and e-mail with the results on Monday after the weekend. I know have the information I need to make my next steps.
Description of Work: I just purchased a house and am starting a 203(k) loan process. I needed to have the house tested for asbestos.

I just purchased a home with vermiculite insulation. I have two infants and I wanted to know whether or not the insuilation contained asbestos. I called, the next day someone came to my house, while my twins were napping, and quitely grabbed three samples from my two attic spaces that had the vermiculite. I was emailed the test results three business days later, and they came back no asbestos!I was expecting asbetos, so I quizzed Jack, the president of the company via email about the accuracy of the testing, etc. and I am fully satisfied.

We found them to be very professional in coming out and testing our home as an independent third-party assessment. We called them originally and found out they don't do the actual abatement. They called Young Environmental Services for us, but we'd already talked to them (we were actually looking for a second proposal because Young's seemed high to State Farm which was paying the claim). Anyway, Geller was terrific and we'd definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Geller doesn't actually do removal. We called them based on reviews on here. They do do a lot of follow-up testing. We used Young Environmental for asbestos abatement/removal (they were terrific, look at my review for them). Young used Geller for the independent third-party evaluation and testing. So that was paid for by Young Env.

The president of the company was very nice and responsive in answering all my questions thoroughly through email. I am at a job where I do not have access to phones all day so I was glad I could get all my questions answered through email. Even though Geller is not licensed to perform lead testing in MD, they were able to recommend another great MD licensed risk assessor to come out and test my home for lead (Ed Beck). I could not be happier with the services from Geller. I would recommend other people to use this company for future testing needs.

Geller was punctual and professional. Everything went very smoothly, and the heating company was able to install a new furnace the next day, as scheduled. I was completely satisfied.
Description of Work: In DC, asbestos removal must be certified by an independent testing service. I had asbestos removed from an old furnace so it could be replaced by Young Environmental. I used Geller to do the testing. Geller arrived while the temporary containment structure around the furnace was still in place and used various instruments to detect the presence of asbestos. When he determined that there was not any, the removal crew could take down the containment structure, which was the final step in the removal.

I can't say enough about how well they worked with us and the situation we were in. They were extremely professional, efficient, and punctual. Due to some asbestos contamination due to waterproofing, we needed to have our basement completely cleaned of asbestos particles by an asbestos abatement company. Geller Labs was very thorough in making sure that the abatement company did a thorough job (they had to redo their work a few times) and put our interests first. Their pricing is a bit high, but its worth every penny in the assurance that your home is contaminant free. If you want peice of mind regarding asbestos, this is the company to turn to.
Description of Work: We had Geller labs do site inspections, and dust and sir sampling and testing after some asbestos cleanup work in our basement. It was a rather complilcated situation with other companies involved and it was very important to us to have a neutral 3rd party like Geller to do the testing.

After we found potential asbestos tile during our family room renovation we contacted Geller Environmental. Spoke with Jack Geller who was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Inevitably we had Geller Environ. do testing on our tiles, as well as on the plaster in our walls (which could also have asbestos - luckily, ours did not). The tests were done by Pat and Paul - who came to our house to take samples. During their visit to our house, they spent a great deal of time walking around the house to check for other potential locations of asbestos, and were accommodating in terms of answering all our questions. Likewise, they were especially great about getting back to us as soon as the tests results were available (knowing that we were biting our nails waiting to hear), and spent time explaining the results in laymens terms. We eventually used a remediation firm to remediate the asbestos tile (Geller Environ doesn't do the actual remediation) and because we enjoyed working with Jack and his crew so much, we hired them to do the air quality tests after remediation (i.e., to give the all clear). Once again, they were responsive to our needs, and very friendly. Overall, they were a pleasure to work with and would recommend them to anyone.

They were really nice. They were very clear about what they would do and the results came back promptly. They also discussed what the results probably would show. They actually came back to test the area once the asbestos removal contractor was finished, so the removal company likes them, too.

While renovating Kitchen, a contractor provided the name of Geller Environmental Labs for asbestos testing. They were located locally and if I were to drop off the sample with check, they could get the results in a day or two. Before droping the samples we called and asked questions about asbestos and the they were very helpful in providing us information regarding asbestos. After two days, we did receive the report through email and while the tiles tested positive for asbestos, we were very happy with our experience with Geller.

Jack Geller was referred to me through another Angie's list provider after we encountered some questionable layers of tile on the kitchen/dining/den floors. Mr. Geller thoroughly inspected the floors and took 4 samples in total of tiles, glue and some brown paper between the layers. The turnaround for the results and the report took about 3 days. He was very concise in his report and everything we had previously discussed.

Jack Geller of Geller Environmental Labs was our savior recently when we were at a complete loss as to where to turn in a case where an asbestos abatement contractor contaminated our home, having left behind friable asbestos materials. At first, we had a Maryland-based inspector examine the area, and he failed to uncover the hazardous material that was left in our home. Since in the state of Maryland, asbestos inspectors are unregulated and unlicensed, we were forced to look in Virginia, a state which actually bothers to license their inspectors. We wanted the best possible licensed and qualified inspector to examine our home and assess the damage done by the abatement company, and Jack Geller stood out immediately. We checked with the Virginia licensing board and found that he has a very long, and completely unblemished reputation in the industrial hygiene industry. He is always on time, answers his own phone, and is knowledgeable and friendly. He has gone out of his way to answer our emails and calls and requests for meetings, often rearranging his busy schedule to help us out. If you live in Maryland and are planning on having asbestos abatement work done, tell the contractor that they can keep their unregulated, unlicensed Maryland-based "inspectors", and that you want to hire the very best where it comes to your health and safety: Geller Environmental Labs. If you are looking for someone who will give you the very best and most advanced, and most conclusive testing for hazardous substances like asbestos, you can't do any better than getting in touch with Jack Geller.
Description of Work: Inspection of post-asbestos abatement project. Jack is very upfront about the costs of his services and even gave us a discount when the results came in slightly later than he expected. We opted to pay for a very thorough inspection because we were concerned about the habitability of our home.

I strongly recommend and can't speak highly enough about Jack Geller and Geller Labs. I wish every contractor experience could be like the one I had working with Geller Labs. Mr. Geller was honest about my situation, and didn't try to oversell me. At each step of the process, he provided the right amount of information to educate me about the situation, gave me reasonable options and his opinion when I asked for it, and didn't push too much in one direction. His estimates and invoices were clear, and he provided a well organized, clear and comprehensive report after first taking tape samples (for mold), and then another report after taking air samples that integrated all the available information from both, the tape and air tests. The report was extremely clear about what was found, the implications, and came with very specific recommendations from Geller Labs. A couple of other "small" things, which have big implications, at least in my book. 1. After Geller's work was complete, and because Geller does not do remediation, I had another contractor provide estimates for and perform the remediation. I sent the proposal to Mr. Geller to review, asking him his advice on a couple of aspects of the remediation, and whether he thought the price was fair. He sent back a 4 paragraph email answering all my questions, and encouraging me to contact him if I had any other questions. 2. When Mr. Geller was at my house doing an assessment his flashlight went out, and he needed a couple of double-A batteries. Because I wouldn't accept the batteries back and told him to just keep them, he took $30 off my bill (so my bill total was actually $880)
Description of Work: Jack Geller came out to my house to test for mold in my unfinished basement. First visit he came out and assessed what he indicated was a minor mold situation. He suggested we do tape samples only at first to confirm the existence and volume of mold present, and then proceed to air samples (which are more expensive) if necessary, based on tape sample results. The tape samples ($310) did detect the presence of mold, so we proceeded with the air samples ($600).
