I've been meaning to share what a fantastic job Paul Grano of Full Sun Landscapes did on our deck upgrade. He was professional and helpful throughout, and went the extra mile a few times with the permit process, design suggestions, and fixes along the way. I'm so grateful we worked with him and got this project done. I feel like we've added value to our house as opposed to spent money. Here's a before and after.

It went great. Although the design bottom line was slightly over our expected original budget (what we thought we would pay), we did get our money's worth for the reasonable overage. The workers were thorough and understood how to execute Dennis' blueprint. All the rockscape came out perfectly. The trees and bushes were awesome when we planted them, but one of our doggies likeed some of them too much, so we had minor shrub losses months later. I will be hiring Dennis again for the front of my house, since I think the talent, pricing and creative abilities that Full Sun Landscapes delivers meets my high standards and criteria. I am confident he will be commissioned for additional work next year, which is why I chose to compose this candid assessment of work completed.
Description of Work: Designer Dennis G from Full Sun Landscapes was asked to design a doggy friendly backyard for us. His design was impressive. He is an excellent listener and his creative talents were a perfect match, based on the deliverables I requested.

We had a very positive experience with Full Sun Productions from the design all the way through the build. We've got a Mid-Century modern house tucked in amongst mature trees. Paul and his crew were able to create an incredible modern, yet inviting space that added ~550 sq. ft. of outdoor living space that complements our house (and lifestyle) perfectly. He was extremely collaborative during the design phase, and genuinely took our ideas into account. If we had to have a design discussion or make a change, he was very responsive and flexible. His builders did exceptional quality work even though we were hampered on occasion by the weather (which caused some unscheduled delays). Now that the weather's warming up, we've had occasion to use it more often, and we can't get over the transformation from our old space to this one. we keep noticing small details either about the design, or the landscaping that keep us appreciating our experience more and more.

They were great. Arrived on time and completed the work. The grass came in nicely over the next couple weeks. We will definitely use them again when we redo our backyard.

We have used Paul for various landscaping projects, starting back in December 2013. First, we hired him to re-grade our front yard, install path lights, and install stepper stones. We were very happy with the execution of work as it matched the design/plan perfectly and it was completed on schedule. Next phase was the backyard. They completely rebuilt our outside basement steps, installed custom fencing, patio stone, retaining wall, planted shrubs/trees, French drain, French doors, and light package. During the dig-out of the basement steps, Paul urgently reported foundation issues with our main footer from a prior construction job with the old owners. He did research for us and set-up appointments with multiple foundation experts to ensure we got all the information we needed, at no cost, and to keep the project on schedule. From there, we worked with a structural engineer to get a stamped plan to correct the issue. Paul has always been responsive, trust worthy, and professional. We will continue to use Paul for future work.

I've got a back yard that gets little sun and a lot or rain water run-off so the lawn was mostly moss and bare spots. Owner Paul Grano created a garden design that's truly amazing. He first extended the pavers, rebuilt a retaining wall that a previous landscaper screwed up, and installed drains to handle the water issue. I had no idea what to do with that area in terms of planting, except that I wanted a raised bed somewhere to create a miniature garden. Paul's design incorporated stepping stones to take you through the garden with a bench at the back that's the perfect spot for enjoying that morning cup of coffee, strategically placed large rocks (not sure I'd call them and quot;bouldersand quot; but close) that anchor the different sections, a water feature moved from another place in the yard, beautiful plants that have staggered bloom times, and an incredible miniature garden complete with mini winding stone pathways up the mound to the little church and cottage at the top. Lastly, he installed low voltage lighting that follows the pathway, shines on the fountain and up a couple of the larger trees, and lights up inside the church and cottage. He's turned by back yard into an oasis that makes me smile just thinking about it. Aside from the great design, he and his install team worked quickly/efficiently and were responsive to any change requests along the way. There were a few expected delays due to weather and Paul was quick to communicate schedule changes. Paul was good at monitoring phone messages/email/text and always got back to me right away. During the install, my neighbors made several trips over to see the progress and they were very impressed. The family next door also had him come over to create a design plan for a troublesome spot in their yard. You can be sure Paul will work closely with you on a design and install that will meet all your needs.

The work is still in process. It should be done in about 10 days if the weather cooperates. Paul Granno, the owner, has been wonderful to work with, and his crew is fantastic. Paul worked with us to come up with the best design and keep our costs down. He took the time to meet us at the stone center so that we could select our pavers and finalize the design. I will write a follow up once complete.

We received bids from seven contractors including Paul Grano, owner of Full Sun Landscapes. Based on the scope of work done by these contractors, our job was relatively small. The pricing from three were rediculously high, and four were competitively priced. Of the four, Full Sun Landscapes stood out for several reasons, which made our decison in picking a contractor an easy one. And over the course of the project, Full Sun Landscapes did not disappoint us and we are thrilled with the end results. When I contacted Paul, he arranged a time to meet that was convenient for us, which basically ment an evening or weekend appointment. All of the other contractors seemed to keep bank hours. At the initial meetings, all the other contractors gave us a booklet of pavers to look at. They all recommended different products. Some wanted us to pick the style and color on the spot based on the pictures. When we asked to see the pavers, some said we couldn't unless we went to the manufacturer in PA, and other said we could see them at a local vender, but it was clear we would be on our own. Perhaps because the job was small they weren't willing to invest too much time -- who knows. Anyway, Paul was the only one that said he would go with us to see the pavers and help select the style and color. He was also the only one that offered creative ideas for the patio design (beyond a rectangular patio bordered by the fence) and plants that would enhance the overall appearance. Furthermore, the scaled drawing he have gave us of the proposed plan was done so well, our application sailed through the Architectural Review Board. In addition, we wanted a particular type of composit fence that has a stucco type texture to it that is not readily available in this area. Because of this, several of the contractors tried to talk us into another type of fence (pressure treated or a shinny vinyl), which we did not want. Paul spent quite a bit of time researching the fence and finding a distributor in Northern VA. There were a few hiccups on the part of the manufacturer in delivering the fence, but Paul stayed on top of it and kept us informed. There were also challenges during the installation of the fence due to the slop of the yard, but thanks to Paul's attention to detail and expertise, the fence is perfect. Paul was great to work with. He always returned our calls/emails promptly, kept us informed, and completed the job within budget, and on a timely basis, sans the late delivery of the fence, which was out of his control. He made us feel like we were a team and that the project was as important to him as it was to us, even though this was a small job for him. His crew are very professional, experts at what they do, and they kept a clean worksite. We couldn't be happier with the patio and fence. We highly recommend Full Sun Landscapes, and personally would hire them again in a heartbeat..!!

We initially contacted Paul Grano, owner of Full Sun Landscaping, in the early Fall of 2011. He immediately set up an appointment to meet with us. After listening to our desires and what we thought we wanted from the project, he took a couple of weeks to design the project and then we met with him again. We reviewed what he had designed and after scaling back and phasing the project, he began in early November. This first phase involved removing sod, grading to establish the patio levels and moving the pool equipment (trenching and installing new lines). Next came the installation of the walls, boulders, patio pavers and a water fountain. Additionally he installed a walkway from the back wood deck to the front driveway, including a pad for the garbage cans. Paul was conscious of the need to ensure gutter runoff lines, water lines and low voltage lines were installed prior to the patio pavers. His workers did a fabulous job of working the walls around the boulders, which provided a nice break from just a continuous wall. In early spring of this year we contacted Paul again to ensure we would get the plant material in before the hotter part of the spring was upon us. This phase of the project involved removing the rest of the existing sod, regrading the lower portion of the yard, installation of a sprinkler system, resodding and mulching. Once this was completed, he installed all of the trees/shrubs/bushes/plants. Additionally he installed chalet stone along the pipestem, where there had been a gutter run-off problem. The final project was the installation of the water feature (water fall) from the upper water fountain area to a stone filled catch basin at the pool level.Overall the project turned out spectacularly. We are very happy with the look and have certainly enjoyed the use of the project. The next phase will be the front yard.
Description of Work: Job completed in two phases:Phase I completed Fall 2011: Removed existing back yard grass. Moved pool equipment. Removed and trimmed shrubs according to plan. Installed "Techo Bloc" wall (170 sq. ft.) with cap (75 LF), installed natural stone boulders (8), installed two 24" high piers, installed random pattern "Techo Bloc" pavers (535 sq. ft.), installed 8 "Techo Bloc" steps (77 LF), and installed random pattern paver "Techo Bloc" side walkway (235 sq. ft.). Installed owner procured low voltage lighting and fountain.Phase II completed Spring 2012: Removed remaining back yard grass. Demolished timber retaining walls and seating. Removed 6 arbovitae bushes, 1 18" caliper pear tree (stump ground up) and 5 lilac bushes. Regraded back portion of yard. Installed sprinkler system for all backyard. Installed mulch and laid new turf. Planted 649 bushes/plants/shrubs/trees in back yard. Planted 106 bushes/plants on side yard. Installed pad for garbage cans. Installed chalet stone (5 cu. yd.) along pipe stem to contain gutter run-off. Pruned existing bushes. Installed awesome water feature (water fall).
The experience was overwhelming positive. Paul came up with several ideas for our garden, making us aware of possibilities we would never have thought of. He then worked with us to do as much as possible within our budget. He also came with us to pick out stone, flagstones, a fountain and trees and plants (he is especially expert on these). The biulding process went well. There were a couple of times when plans needed to be adapted and when this happened Paul consulted us in a timely way and helped find solutions that worked. Paul also responded to phone calls quickly and handled all of the hiring and managing of the subcontractors. The project came in on budget. We are delighted with the results, all of our neighbors love it (our yard also literally stops traffic!), and one of our favorite summer and fall activites last year was sitting by our new fountain in the mornings and evenings. We have had mixed experiences with contractors in the past, but we will definitely use Paul and Full Sun productions for our future projects.

The driveway is concrete with a paver border, the retaining wall is belgrade brick, the pathway is pavers with a flagstone accent, and the patio/landing and staircase are flagstone. There is also a fountain on the pathway.
