The entire process from request for an estimate to the post-installation follow-up went perfectly. The estimator was thorough and provided all the information that we needed in order to make a purchase decision. Although the price quoted was a bit higher than the other companies that we contacted, we felt comfortable with the professionalism of the employee we spoke with, and this, combined with the excellent Angie's List reviews, made our decision easy. The estimate was right on target and the installer was prompt, courteous, and professional. We are very pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to use Fairfax Electric, Plumbing, & Gas again. My highest recommendation!

They completed a Hot Water Heater replacement the same day that I called. The staff on the phone were very knowledgeable and offered a written estimate for the work as well as information on the water heaters suggested to replace my existing one. Their price was on par with other estimates I received. I am very happy with their service and would use them again

Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas was contacted through The Home Depot's Water Heater Installation Services. Their website (as does HomeDepot's) states "We provide free phone consultations and on-site quotes to provide you with the best options suited to your needs and budget." 1. When called, an appointment was set.2. When I inquired about tankless over the phone, I was told that they did not install HomeDepot systems and that they were very expensive. 3. I gave the existing unit characteristics and requested the best warranty (12 years)4. Owner/estimator arrived as scheduled and told the newly arrived military family that the existing vent pitch was dangerous and that a short model had to be installed and it only came with a 9 year warrranty.5. When I mentioned I wanted the 12 year warranty, the owner/estimator said that it wasn't worth it because the warranty was not transferable if we moved. I told him that I was on assignment out-of-state and that my family and I would be moving back.6. He stated that he had to "special order" a short water heater (50 gal) to replace the existing 50 gal tall unit to correct the vent pitch.7. I requested and was promised that owner/estimater was available and would return the next day to supervise the installation. He did not. I called after the installation and asked to speak to a supervisor regarding the following: a. Why any suitable alternatives were not proposed?b. The home is 1,200 sq ft with 1 1/2 baths. Was there really a reason to install a 50 gallon when 40 gallon, 12 year warranty could have worked?c. With an electrical panel less than 10 ft away, why was an electric unit not proposed as a suitable alternative?d. Though their 2nd name is "Electric" they do not do any type of electrical work and would not and did not provide any alternatives for an electric water heater ... which would have eliminated entirely the vent pitch issue.e. When I mentioned the possibility of an electric heater I was told that it costs $200 more per year to operate.f. When I mentioned that I was on a time saver plan with the electric company and could and would use a timer I was told that they are no good and they "rip them out all the time."g. I requested that stainless steel braided water lines be used and was told that they were no good and "we always end up removing them."h. I asked for the unit to be positioned a few inches away from the wall so that I could put an insulation blanket around it and got charged $200 and was told that the blankets were no good and would void the warranty. Summary: Absolutely no attempt was made by this company to provide me with any, let alone "the best options suited" per their advertisement. Every question I had was answered with a reason why it wouldn't work . This company does water heater installation only. They are not solution-focused nor customer service-oriented. They left me with the solid impression that they are strictly a remove-and-replace-your-existing-water-heater company. Should your existing unit not be the right type or size for your home, the new one installed by this company will not be any different.

Response from Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas
We are committed to 100% complete satisfaction for all our customers. Although we stand by the answers that were provided to the member's questions, in particular the discussion of a gas vs electric water heaters, we have gone back to the member's home and at no additional charge to the customer installed a 50 gallon electric water heater with a limited 12 year warranty.

Called the 800 number for water heaters at Home Depot and Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas answered. They had product information and were able to discuss permitting considerations. In addition to replacing the water heater I wanted a new cold water shut off valve and an under tank pan. They provided a firm quote. They could have done the work the same day but my old heater was still working so I scheduled it a few days later. The workman showed up exactly on time and had all the material needed. It took about an hour from start to finish and they cleaned the work area. I did have to pay a small extra charge to have a new gas shut off valve installed as the code had changed since my original unit was installed.

They were totally prepared to do this work, and did not charge much more for my customized installation requests. The whole process took only a couple of hours, tops. I can't recommend them more highly. They are THE place to go for water heaters.
Description of Work: I wanted a Ruud Marathon water heater installed, and was surprised to find they not only had it stock (it is a very deluxe, leak proof heater), but could install the same day. Because I am very concerned about water leaks, I wanted them to install in a different location than the old water heater and install a drip pan.

.This was one of those "our water heater is leaking all over the floor and we need a new one now" kinds of situations. We looked up water heaters on Angie's List and they were highly recommended. They even had a coupon for Angie's List members. We had been thinking that our water would be the next appliance to get replaced, but we were not expecting to do it so soon. We had been looking at heat pump water heaters because our wood stove is in the basement and that is the hottest floor in the house. We knew that a heat pump water heater made sense for us. Not only did they have the heat pump heater we wanted available, but they were knowledgeable about them and installed our new one the next day. Colin and Cameron, who did the install were great! They took out our old water heater and installed the new one. They took the time to discuss the placement options with me and even had a great idea about where we could put a vent to let the heat pump take advantage of all that wood stove heat better.

I contacted Home Depot by telephone to obtain a new hot water heater. Fairfax Electric, Plumbing, and Gas was at the other end of the phone tree. Jessica was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She provided quotes for 50 and 75 gallon water heaters with various warranties at my request. She pointed out that the price could change due to installation variables such as venting, etc., but she also provided each cost for those variables. She asked me to take pictures of my water heater and to e-mail them to her so that they could determine any issues with installing a 75 gallon tank. We determined that a 75 gallon tank would block a drain pipe and settled on the 50 gallon tank. The price was reasonable, and it included removal of the old tank, a drain pan to comply with the new code, and a $50 rebate from my gas company for meeting thermal efficiency standards. (Earlier, another company had provided an estimate that was a thousand dollars higher--which I disregarded out of hand.) We scheduled the installation for a week later. (It was not an emergency.) The plumbers arrived on time and did an outstanding job. The rebate paperwork arrived by e-mail a day or so later. I would highly recommend this company.

They were very responsive by email when I went back and forth with them initially about a quote. Their quote was good compared to the other quotes that I received. They were available to come out immediately and do the work, which was a big factor for me, and that is why I decided to go with them. Their work has been good so far. The quality of their work has been good, although I have limited ability to compare it; I can only compare it to the same product. I like that they are very clear on their website about the process, especially in terms of the inspection and everything. They make it very clear that they will double check whether or not a permit is needed or an inspection is required. They, basically, facilitate that afterwards. They will send all the stuff required, and I just need to call and arrange for the inspection. The other companies told me that I did not need the permit; I called the county myself, and it turned out not to be true. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

I shopped for a hot water heater at Home Depot and was very satisfied with the prices compared with the estimates I had received from two licensed plumbers. Home Depot arranged for Fairfax Electric to contact me since they were the contractors HD uses to install the heaters. Fairfax Electric was most helpful. Since I could not decide which of two models to use because of space concerns, the company offered to deliver both so that I could further discuss the matter with the installers. The installers measured my space and showed me that either model would be a good fit. This allowed me to select the less expensive heater. I appreciated the professionalism of the two installers and their responsiveness to the questions I had. The service was excellent in every respect.

My water heater was on it's way out. I called Home Depot for their same day replacement and was connected to Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas. They were very responsive and informative on the call and the estimate given was right on target with a couple of other companies I had called. When they arrived the next day (didn't need immediate replacement), they arrived within 30 minutes of the time estimated. The technician (I'm sorry, I do not remember his name) was very courteous and informative. He replaced the water shutoff to the water heater and the gas shutoff for an additional $100, brining the total to a little over $1200. The removal of the old water heater and installation of the new one was done very quickly and efficiently and the area cleaned up of any debris from the work.

We needed to replace our water heater. The plumber who we quite like was unavailable to do it right away, so we went to Home Depot. They sent us to this company. They said that if we would buy a 50 gallon tank instead of the 40 gallon one we had, they could do the install that day. We agreed. One guy came out and took a look at the system. He decided it needed new ductwork to be safe. I think that was right, so we agreed to have them redo that. However, this company subs to another guy who does heating/AC. That guy couldn't come out until today, so the plumber said he would come out at the same time to do the water heater install. The guy who came out made me a little uneasy since he kept saying things like "I hate to tell you this because you look like such a nice person". And, the cost for hiring the sub for ductwork (not much was required, actually) was going to cost $400-500. Against our better judgement, we decided to go ahead and let them do the work. However, overnight, we decided to go ahead and just get the 40 gallon tank. My husband called and they seemed insanely annoyed that we would ask them to come out with a different tank. They were NOT already at the house. We would have to reschedule them to come out another day. We're 3 days into no hot water so my husband goes ahead and lets them install the 50 gallon tank. The installers (both the water heater installer and the duct work installer) were apparently efficient and pleasant enough. The original guy who came out, however, was not. He was extremely unprofessional. He yelled at people on his cell phone. He called another customer an idiot. These are things you don't do in front of paying customers. Especially ones you are charging way too much for the work done. So, so far, we have a water heater that cost about $400 but another ~1300 for installation. This was not a complicated install. Our take aways: Don't trust Home Depot to select good subcontractors. Don't use this company. Hire a plumber that also has heating professionals on staff so that you don't get dinged with extra costs of subcontracting to the subcontractor.
Description of Work: Replace water heater and redo some of the ventillation ductwork. We also had them move the new water heater 3 feet from where it was originally.
