Even though things did not go smoothly, I really have no complaints. My water value to the water heater was busted so they had to shut the main water off. When they turned the water back on, the value at the water meter broke. I called Fairfax County Water Authority (FCWA) and handed the phone to Kenny from Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas (FEPG). He explained what happened for me. He told me to call the office when FCWA finishes. He also reassured me that someone would come back no matter how long it took FCWA to fix the value. In the end, FCWA came right away and fixed the value. I called FEPG and the receptionist knew my issue and told me Kenny would be back to finish within 2 hours. Kenny was there in 20 minutes and the new water heater has been supplying hot water since. I am overall happy with the experience and feel that FEPG handled a mishap very well. Kenny called 40 minutes before arriving, quoted a price to replace the value at the water heater before performing any work and kept me informed during the entire install. He even discovered that the flue was installed incorrectly and fixed it without charging me.

It was very easy from the start. I contacted several contractors over the phone to get a quote for specific WH, including Rheem, Bradford White and AO Smith. Stephanie, who was easygoing and very friendly, called me back with prices. I chose a 60 gal Rheem, the brand that had been installed in the house and was still functional after 28 years. The next day two guys arrived after a courtesy call to let me know that they are on their way. They were very efficient - drained and removed the old heater, and called me to the basement just before installing the new one to show me how it was going. In about two hours, they left leaving the basement as clean as it was when they arrived. Oh by the way, the shut-off valve for the water heater was rusty and I asked them to change it. I was quoted on the spot and they installed a brand new one. I think this company can be trusted. They do a pretty good job for the right price.

Fantastic! Everyone had excellent customer service skills, and Colin was the best technician out of all the others we received quotes from. He was extremely knowledgable about both tankless and traditional tank systems, as well as current codes and permit issues. He took the time to really evaluate the space and situation for our project, and he listened to our needs and came up with great solutions. Colin and Cameron did a great job with the installation, and we are very pleased with the finished result.

I called for an appointment Sunday afternoon, and they fit me in the next day. I replaced my 18-year-old water heater with a new GE model. Tony and Cameron were fantastic - prompt, friendly, thorough, and fast. They pointed out some things that were questionable on the installation of my previous water heater and corrected those for the new model. They answered all of my questions and gave me some good maintenance tips. The new model has a 12-year warranty but when it's time to replace it, I'll go back to Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas.

My sister's water heater started leaking and she had no idea how to go about replacing it, so I helped her through it. She had gotten cost estimates from two independent plumbers, and then I had her use Home Advisor to get names of 3 companies who were highly rated on their site. I looked for those companies and the independent plumbers on Angie's list. Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas had very good reviews on both websites and had the best price quote, though they install GE water heaters (made by Rheem) and the others had given quotes for installing A.O. Smith units. Given the warnings we'd heard against using "big box" stores and their terrible installers, and the fact I'd read such good reviews of Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas, I was surprised to find out the company is one of Home Depot's installers. The first customer service person I talked to on June 27 gave me quotes for water heaters with 6, 9 and 12-year warranties (the independent plumbers and other companies either strongly recommended against a warranty of more than 6 years or just didn't mention the option at all. Independent plumbers seem very opposed to longer warranties as being more trouble than they're worth, and some warranties seem to be just extended service plans on the same water heater model, but some models with longer warranties are actually different/better constructed). The customer service rep seemed knowledgeable about the heaters and installation requirements (including the need for a drip pan, included in the installation, which another plumber said wasn't necessary (it is!) but he was willing to include one for an additional $120). We asked about a possible discount for having 2 water heaters installed at once, since my sister's next door neighbor also wanted hers replaced, and she said we could get $100 off (total) if we saved the company a trip by having both installed at the same time. We discussed the options with my sister's neighbor, who also called them herself, and then called back in the evening to place an order. That customer service rep wasn't as helpful as the first, which is why I gave them a B for "professionalism" - she told us she'd scheduled an installation for my sister's neighbor and given her a 5% Veterans discount, which was less than the $50 discount we'd been quoted earlier, and she said my sister's record indicated that the $781 quote included the $50 discount, which wasn't my understanding from my conversation with the first rep. She also said they couldn't give us any kind of "window" for the installation, but we could call between 8:30 and 9 am on the 28th to find out where my sister & her neighbor were on the list of installations for the day. My sister didn't want to take the whole day off work if they might not be coming til late afternoon. Since the company says if you call by noon you can generally get same-day installation, we decided to call back in the morning in hopes of getting different answers. So I called the morning of the 28th, around 8:30, and spoke to yet a third customer service rep. She was very helpful, told me the $781 quote was, indeed, before the $50 discount, and updated the neighbor's account to increase her discount to $50 as well. She looked at the installation schedule and told me to expect the installer between 11 am and 2 pm so my sister left work in time to be home at 11. She said the installer called at 11:15 and arrived at 11:30. First, he looked at the existing water heaters to make sure there were no problems with the water shutoffs or electrical connections. He suggested replacing an old shutoff valve with a new lever-style shutoff (for $85), but he didn't hard-sell it. Then he got the new water heaters off the truck, removed the existing units and installed the new ones. He used some kind of crimping tool to crimp metal "sleeves" connecting the pipes together, rather than soldering them. The whole process (both water heaters) took a 2 1/2 to 3 hours. While the installer was working on the neighbor's unit, my sister was watching hers for any leaks and noticed a couple of drops of water around the plastic plug where the insulation was blown in... she went over to ask him about it, and he said it might be water that dripped from the pipes when he was connecting them (rather than a leak in the new unit) but he came back over to check it out. My sister and her neighbor were both happy with their installations. The neighbor previously had a 40-gallon tank and wanted to upgrade to a 50-gallon tank but thought she couldn't, because of the placement of her circuit breaker box, but Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas told her that based on her available space she could get a 50-gallon "medium" (shorter) tank, so she was very please with that. My sister has already recommended the company to another friend, based on our research and her experience with them. The friend had them replace her gas water heater and they told her in advance about the Alexandria City plumbing requirements (permit, expansion tank) and associated costs, and she was happy with her installation as well. One thing we all appreciated was that they seem to know the local plumbing codes, which is more than I can say for some of the others.

The first team of technicians was great. They offered booties to walk on my white carpet. They inspected the situation and seemed competent in their analysis and options for the space situation. In addition they were informative, considerate, prompt, and overall GREAT. However, since they did not have a water heater on the truck to fit my needs they left and I rescheduled installation a couple days later (at my convenience). The second set of technicians were totally different. They had no booties and I was told that since I was the first customer of the day his boots were fine to track through the llving room to the lower level on white carpet. Then he went to the truck, brought back tools and a hose to begin the removal process. THEN, he went back and laid drop cloths on the carpets from the garage entrance to the water heater. The "garage" is a functional, white carpeted part of the house, not a traditional garage. Since I intended to pay cash (check), I had not been told previously they wanted the check before they did anything. I was told to make it out to "Home Depot". I said I had not called Home Depot. He checked and decided I should make the check out to Fairfax Electric. He told me they also do installations for Home Depot. Therefore, I changed my mind and put it on a credit card. He mumbled about the wasted time filling out the other papers but accepted the credit card. From then on it appeared that the installation went well and they were done quickly. I suspect that possibly the first team of technicians may have actually worked for Fairfax Elec. and/or were certainly better trained in customer consideration and service. If I had wanted Home Depot, I would have called Home Depot. I could not ever be sure what caliber of technicans was being sent to my home by Fairfax Electric so I seriously doubt that I would use this company again.

I was looking for a replacement water heater with a 12 year warranty. I contacted Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas by email and they quickly sent me a detailed estimate. Although I got 2 other quotes, FEPG was the best. I called to make an appointment and they scheduled the installation for the next day, which was great! They also informed me that I qualified for a $50 rebate, can't beat that. Andy and his helper arrived as scheduled, quickly installed the unit, and cleaned up the little mess created during the install. No complaints at all. I highly recommend the company, they were great.

Called on Sunday afternoon with a water heater failure. The lady (Stephanie) taking the call was very knowledgeable and professional. Scheduled the job of the next morning. The technician (Andy) arrived on schedule and very quickly and professionally installed the replacement water heater. I had earlier called another provider who was going to send on a plumber the next afternoon to "evaluate" the situation. Stephanie did an evaluation over the phone by asking several questions which identified the unit as a power vent water heater and the current vent configuration. As the result she was able to ensure that a unit that conformed to our needs was delivered. It is highly likely that had I made arrangements with another provider that they would have arrived with either the wrong kind of water heater or no water heater at all (resulting in at least another day of cold showers). I was most impressed and will recommend them to friends and neighbors.

I called Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas and got a quote for a new 50 Gallon Water heater to replace my old one that was leaking. The quote was one of the lowest from a number of other companies I called, but I chose Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas because of the friendly and professional attitude. I made an appointment and was told to call on the day of installation to determine approximate time of installation. I was given an approximate time of 11am - 2 pm. However around the time of installation, Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas called me to tell me that the installer was running late, which I appreciated. (I know that sometimes jobs take longer than expected and that is inevitable). The installers called me 15 minutes before arriving which I find very professional. The installation went off without a hitch. The place was left cleaner than before the installation!!! The installers used a drop cloth to make sure the old (leaking) water heater did not leave water all over the place as it was removed. The installers get permission from the office to install an additional water cut off valve at no charge (because they were late), an $80 value, which I also appreciated greatly. I would use them again and recommend them without reserve.

Even though I'm tired of emergency home repairs, I LOVE working with this company. Stephanie has provided excellent customer service and is very knowledge and helpful. Stephanie and Tony have done everything they promised to do when they committed to do it. The first job they did was an emergency water heater replacement. I got a call from my renters that the water heater was leaking and had stopped working. Another company looked at it and said it needed to be replaced, for a cost of close to $1500. I looked up the water heater they were going to use and it cost about $500, that meant they were charging me nearly $1000 for the install. A search brought up Fairfax Electric, Plumbing and Gas. I called Stephanie at 11:30 on a Friday morning, had to call her back to confirm the order around 11:50am and had the water heater installed before the end of the day. My renters are comfortable again and it was hassle-free for me, at a savings of nearly $500 compared to the first quote! One week later, the water heater in my own home stopped working as well. I had another company look at it because they happened to be at my house for other work and they said the heating unit would most likely need to be replaced. Again, I called Stephanie. She confirmed they had the parts they needed and would be out later that afternoon. I live in Springfield but work in DC and asked that they call me an hour before they expected to be at my house so I could be home in time. Tony did just that and I got home about 5 minutes before he showed up as scheduled. Tony was very friendly, professional, and thorough. He replaced the thermostat, cleaned up the water mess and left me with a working water heater for just over $200. Both experiences have been very easy to coordinate and have gone amazingly smoothly. If the need arises, I will definitely call them again, as well as refer them to others.
Description of Work: In a one week period, Fairfax Electric, Plumbing & Gas have done work for me at two different residences. The first job was a complete water heater replacement for $942 and the second was a water heater repair (replaced a melted thermostat) for $225 (the melted thermostat was NOT on the water heater they replaced).
