Couldn't be happier with the work performed. Steve even called to say his guys would be 10 minutes late and they weren't even that late. Very professional and courteous and were careful working around existing finishes. There was a little disconnected between the way Steve and I had discussed routing the wires and how the installer was going to run them, but it was easily cleared up with no issues. No hidden fees or trying to sell me on additional services. I will use for all my electrical needs.

He is always punctual, friendly, does a top job for a good price and I feel confident in the work he does. I would highly recommend him to other individuals....and have already done so.
Description of Work: We used Steve and his team several times to change light fittings and check faulty outlets in our townhouse. When we purchased our detached house in September 2012 we called Steve and his team to install two attic fans, three bathroom fans, and two GFCI outlets. While in the attic Steve noticed that the recessed spot lights in our kitchen, totaling eight, were not suitable, ie. they did not shut off if they overheated. If we had blown in insulation they would most likely have caused a fire. So, we also had him change the spot lights. While at our house he also checked outside GFCI outlets and changed one.

He's still working up the estimate but I just wanted to put out there that I'm impressed. He showed up on time after calling to confirm he was on the way. He paid attention to every detail, helped me refine my plan and gave me information that was very helpful overall. I appreciated the fact that he preferred to have his guys do everything rather than just clean up what I might start. Not that he wouldn't, I assume, but his reasoning is sound and how he talked about his team gives me the confidence to trust that they'll do as quality of a job as I would myself. For once I believe it will be worth my money to leave it to them. That's huge for me! Assuming his quote doesn't shock me, he'll be taking care of this project's electical part start to finish, something that I haven't trusted a contractor to do in over 20 years and many remodels. First impression is he's an honest, DEPENDABLE professional. So we'll see how it turns out and I'll return to really rate Dependable One. I have to note that he's teh forth estimate and no one else even came close to instilling the level of confidence Steve did. I hope I'm not wrong.

I ran the cable myself through the finished basement, and through the kitchen sub-flooring and brought it up into the kitchen. Installer (Greg I think) showed up right on time the day of the install and got right to work. He approved of my cable run and installed the new breaker/fuse and receptacle in <2 hours. Installer was very friendly and noticed a couple of things during my DIY kitchen remodel and made friendly suggestions. I asked him many questions back and forth about various things and he was happy to answer all of my questions, some unrelated to electrical work, but relating to general DIY stuff. Installer even helped me hookup the 4-wire cable to the oven, which was kind of a pain because the cable is so thick. He saw me struggling with it and offered some suggestions and eventually just hooked it up within a few minutes for me. Highly recommended!
Description of Work: Highly recommend Dependable One Electric. I am remodeling kitchen and needed a new 220v-40amp circuit installed for the new oven. The owner Steve contacted me within hours to discuss over the phone. Installing a new circuit breaker for the high voltage circuit, running the cable between floors from the panel to the new oven location, Steve gave me an estimate of $400-500 and scheduled it within a few days. Another Angie's list company made a similar estimate of $400-500 via email. Since I am an experienced DIYer I asked if it would save money if I would run the cable myself and use them simply for installing/connecting the ends. He said no problem and quoted $200, and proceeded to tell me exactly what cable to buy from Home Depot.

Because my work schedule was very demanding, Steve volunteered to come during evening hours. The evening we were scheduled, he called before our scheduled time to confirm he was coming. When he arrived, he took time to listen to what I needed done, then he jumped in to work. He quickly diagnosed a serious defect in my panel (a corroded / loose neutral bus bar), took it apart, cleaned everything and re-wired. He also reviewed my wiring plans for a 4-room new construction project, walked through all wiring I had installed, and made a couple of small change suggestions. Steve was friendly, fast, highly expert and left a clean job when he was done. The rate charged was, in my opinion, very reasonable... in fact, I felt he charged too little. I was completely pleased with every aspect of my interaction with Dependable One. I intend to call them again to finish the electrical work on my remodel (lights, plugs and panel connections), and I will use them on other future projects. Steve's work is so quick and reasonable in cost and high in quality that even a dedicated DIY addict like me would rather call him than do it myself.
Description of Work: Contacted Steve Geissler at Dependable One to help with a major basement remodel. I had two needs: 1) inspect my "DIY" wiring plans and wire runs prior to close-in inspection, and 2) to diagnose and fix arcing that was occurring in my electrical panel.

Discovered around 3:30 pm the Friday before a three day weekend, that I might need a new electric breaker that supplied my heating unit (i.e., I had no heat). After calling several places, either no one was available today or if they were willing to come, the charges would be cost prohibitive. I was ready to face a cold weekend when I called Dependable One Electric based on their Angie's List grade and location. I spoke with Steve who was very helpful and was told that he would see if they could find someone to come out at this late hour and that he'd call me back. Steve called back within the hour; he was able to line-up Mike to come that very afternoon and that regular rates would apply. Mike arrived within a very reasonable timeframe especially when you consider traffic on a such a day. He was friendly and professional and went right to work. Within a half hour or so Mike located the problem, replaced the problem breaker and put the electric panel back. The charges seemed quite reasonable given what information I'd received from other electricians over the phone and things seem to be working just great. I have heat! My entire experience with Dependable One Electric has been extremely positive. I give them the highest marks for responsiveness, professionalism and value.
Description of Work: Trouble shot electric panel and breaker to my heating unit. Replaced breaker with a properly rated one which should have been done by the company (it wasn't Dependable One) who installed my heating unit in the first place.

Great! I wish I could remember specific person's name so the good feedback on him could get to him via the company. He arrived exactly as planned and called before he arrived to ensure timing was good. He was very personable and worked very quickly to resolve my issue. He also provided some ideas for lighting changes I'd like to make in the future (they wouldn't require an electrician - just me changing some recessed lighting trim)...and places for the supplies in terms of quality and price. Really appreciated him answering my quesions that were outside "the scope" of specific work I needed done. He was great! I will definitely be using this co. for my electrical needs in the future!
Description of Work: My dining room lights/dimmer switch shorted out. Gentleman came and tested electrical issues for lights and updated dimmer. Also gave helpful advice re: avoiding causing the short in future and also regarding some changes I'd like to make with some lighting. Issues were resolved quickly.

Over the weekend, my husband and I lost power to our bedroom and upstairs hallway after plugging in the vacuum cleaner. After checking the breakers, we realized that the job may require someone with professional experience. I searched on Angie's List the following Monday, and Dependable One was the first listing. I called around 9am - they were immediately responsive, and were asking questions trying to get an idea of the issue over the phone prior to arrival. Because of this, they had a great idea of the issue and gave us a spot-on estimate of the work over the phone. They also asked over the phone if any large pices of furniture were obstructing any of the outlets - as moving the furniture could be an extra cost. This allowed my husband and I to move the furntiure and make clear paths to the outlets ahead of time. Within 3 hours of calling, an electrician, Greg, was at our doorstep. Very courteous and professional. In 30 minutes or less, he was complete and we had our power secured. The issue was a loose electrical outlet - he fixed all of our outlets in the bedroom; not just the faulty outlet, and instructed us on a little DIY trick for the future. Dependence One is just what they say they are - Dependable! I highly recommend this company, and if any future electrical issues occur, I know just who to call!

During a self-renovation, I discovered that I did not have the correct type of wall box for one of the light fixtures so I called DependableOne. Steve answered the phone and made an appointment for one of his guys to come out the next day. The technician (Greg?) arrived as scheduled, and went right to work. He was able to quickly and efficiently install the lights and fans. I asked him if he could also install some switches and outlets since he was here, and he was happy to oblige. During installation he discovered that the vent to the outside was cut too small, and gave me very detailed instructions on how to get it fixed (it still worked, just no efficiently). He even took away the old light and fan fixtures he removed. Excellent work!

The lighting in about a third of our home, garage and exterior had gone out. The circuit breaker kept tripping and we had no clue as to why. We called one electric company and their tech spent 3 hours looking for the cause and gave up. They didn't charge us so I won't mention their name here. Dependable One's tech Greg was in our home about 20 minutes before he zeroed in on the problem, a short in a recently installed outdoor lamp. He fixed the short and another problem we had and in one swoop restored the electric to parts of the house that hadn't seen it in more than a week. He was also on time, professional and did a great job of explaining what he was doing and looking for as he hunted down the problem. We would recommend Dependable One to anyone.

Excellent experience, from initial scheduling, to estimate and ensuing discussion, and finally to the work beautifully done by a team of 3 (business owner Steve Geissler included). On the day the work was performed, I happened to be at home, so I observed and interacted with Steve and his assistants several times. I appreciated Steve's first listening, then taking into account our objectives and preferences, and finally providing additional options. Steve volunteered alternative ways to reach the same goals while providing more elegant solutions, extra value, and added safety. Steve had great feedback and suggestions regarding the setting for the motion detector lights, specific location of living room ceiling light, and outdoor lights. He brought up the GFCI outlet next to the kitchen sink, which is an issue the home inspector had not raised previously. In no way did I feel Steve was pushing me towards adding more work to the initial order. In fact, he ended up making a couple of improvements at his own cost. I particularly liked that Steve treated this house like his own, constantly scanning for things that may be improved. During his work in the attic, he noticed an issue related to the thermal insulation up there, which I was not aware of, and he offered good suggestions for future improvements. The other two electricians (Steven and Greg) also worked well and cleanly. At the end of the day, more than the initial work was done for the same amount initially agreed upon, the ceiling and walls were fully repaired after the rough-in work, and the house was as clean as it was before the electricians came in. This electric work was done right after the hardwood floor had been freshly stained and coated with the first out of 3 coating applications. I was particularly pleased with the fact that Dependable One carefully protected the floors, so the flooring company did not have to do any cleaning before resuming their work the following day. I would highly recommend Steve Geissler's company.
Description of Work: In a vacant 3-level townhouse: - Rough in for living room ceiling light - replaced wall switch, installed wires. Converted a different outlet from switch connection to always on. - Outside - installed owner-provided motion light and contractor-provided flood lights, cut in a two gang switch box, installed switch and dimmer. Tied into attic junction box - basement closet - installed pull chain light - attic - installed pull chain light. Installed contractor-provided attic fan - kitchen - installed owner-provided sink light, tied into switch box. Replaced switch with stack switch. For safety and code-compliance, the contractor suggested replacing the outlet with GFCI, which he provided.

The lights in the hall were a little tricky along with the switch to be the correct colors as two switiches were in the box. They did not have the proper ladder for the high ceiling fan but came back later to install that day to install. Unfortunately, the ceiling fan was a remote but the remote I had on the switch was a different brand. This caused issues as the ceiling fan remote was incompatible with the switch. After much discussion I an extra remote in the garage and Dependable installed this one into the fan remote switch. Great Job! Excellent explanation of all installations, and on the spot problem solvers. I have more electrical work in the house and am only going to have Dependable One do the work.

We had used Dependable One Electric a couple weeks ago for a quick minor rewiring related to a plumbing project we were having performed. My wife was very pleased with the work they performed, albeit very minor. After the plumbing project was done, we had decided to replace our 1960's bathroom medicine cabinets with a more modern combination. This required the removal of the medicine cabinets, as they had those single electrical recepticals at the front top of the cabinet, rewiring to accomodate light fixtures, as well as installing GFCI recepticles in the wall. We decided to use Dependable One Electric based on my wife's earlier experience with them. Fortunately, they were able to send out the same two electricians that performed the earlier work - Greg and Steven. At 8:30AM, the scheduled appointment time, we received a call from Greg that one of their vans had a starter problem, but they would be out within 30 minutes, apologizing for the inconvenience. When they arrived, they were assessed of the issues we wanted resolved and quickly set about their work. Steven informed us that given that the main use of the GFCI's in the bathroom would be for hairdryers and that we had spare circuit breakers in our electrical box, it would be best to wire these recepticles to their own separate circuit. Of course, that would require fishing wire from our bathrooms (upstairs) to our circuit box (downstairs), so we expected more holes in our walls. That was OK, though, as we still have holes in the walls from our aforementioned plumbing project that will be repaired in two weeks. However, these electricians were able to get the wiring done without adding any additional holes - boy, were we pleased with that. The fishing of the wire portion of the project was pretty amazing to me - I have tried doing this myself in the past and I just do not have the patience or technique required to do this for a living - these guys were diligent and resourceful.I think the fact that we had some holes already helped - but it was pretty amazing nonetheless. As for the problem-solving portion of the work, it proved to be very simple for these guys. As may be often the case, these problems were caused by the homeowner (me). The one receptible issue had to do with the use of the push-in conduits in the back - Greg told us that it is always best to fasten the wires via the screws as opposed to the push-in conduits. Those conduits tend to get loose, especially if the recepticle is used a lot. He used the screws and, viola, problem fixed. The other issue was a simple case of improper wiring - connecting the wrong wires to the wrong spots - I had tried at least five different combinations before giving up - they fixed it in two minutes. Both electricians, Greg and Steven, were professional, attentive, courteous and efficient. They did not screw around and waste any time. They respected the fact that we were working at home while they worked and only interupted us when needed. These guys are our electricians from now on.
Description of Work: Replace old bathroom medicine chests with electrical outlet with three new light fixtures; Install three GFCI outlets; Problem-solve one recepticle and two three-way light switches

the transfer box to the generator was not working right. Some of the switches were not working at all. so we called this company and they sent Greg out and he looked at the transfer box and flipped several switches up and down several times. He told us to use the transfer box when starting up the generator box every month since we don't use it all the time since the power doesn't go out all the time in a storm.
Description of Work: Greg checked transfer box for the generator. Found out the problem in 5-10 minutes. Very nice. Knew what he was doing. Gave us tips on how to keep this problem from happening again.

Excellent service and will definitely use again if needed. I called this morning and talked to Steve. I provided an explanation of what was wrong and he told me that he was on his way to another service call and could come to our place in about two hours. He arrived on time checked out our circuit box. He noted that one of our breakers was the wrong amperage for the wire. He put in the two new breakers and verified that everything was in working order.

I had used Dependable One in the past for a home remodel. These guys are the best. Steve, the owner, seems to be a workaholic. He is always working hard, trying to accommodate the customer. It also seems as though he hires quality folks to work with him as well. The guys that came to do the box were courteous, neat, and quick. The work was performed and they didn't leave a mess. I also thought the price was reasonable. I would use these guys again, no questions asked. UPDATE, October 2014: I again used Steve and Dependable One to fix some substandard work. He's great. Steve gave us an estimate of the work and showed up on the appointed day with a small army of electricians. Everything went more or less according to plan, but apparently the former home owners did some electrical wizardry (sarcasm). The outlets that were out by the door went nowhere.. so to keep it up to code Steve and his guys had to find way to run a line to the outlet. Long story short, they managed to get everything up and running and never tried to sell me anything I didn't need. The outlet to nowhere made things run a bit over the estimate, but we knew that was a possibility going in. The guys put a lot of effort into minimizing the amount of wall cutting - and they closed up anything they opened. Originally we were going to do the kitchen outlets, but since Steve knew we were just going to tear everything out in a bit he suggested we hold off on that part. We also discussed replacing 6 recessed lights in the kitchen, removing 7 or so from the livingroom, and removing heatlamps in the bathrooms while adding recessed lights. We didn't get a bill yet for the lighting, but we will certainly use Dependable One Electric again.
Description of Work: Steve and his team first came to replace a bunch of outlets, make some of the GFCI outlets actually work, change some light switches, assess the electrical connectivity to an attic fan, fix some wiring (exposed) throughout the house, and assess some outlets that appeared to be dead.

We called the company in the morning and left a message. We were surprised to get a return call from the owner who told us that he would have an electrician out later that same day. Although we did not need immediate service, we were very impressed by this responsiveness. We received another call mid-afternoon from the owner giving us an approximate arrival time for the electrician. He was here very close to the expected time. He was a very personable man who easily identified the problem (loose circuit connections), checked and tightened all of our circuit connections and instructed my husband on how he could maintain the board to avoid further problems. Because he informed us that a typical cause of house fires is the condition in which he found our circuits, we were grateful to have caught the problem early enough to avoid disaster and quite happy to pay the $145 to resolve the problem and gain important information about maintenance of a circuit board.

Company remembered prior work. Tech arrived on time and set to work diagnosing old fan (bad) and installing new one and new remote. Thoroughly tested fan and remote. I also asked tech to check out a circuit connected to our standby generator. Tech could not find issue but told us to call during next power outage so he could work on circuit when power is down. No charge for this check. Tech also asked when preparing invoice if I was AL member. Took discount off bill.

Found Dependable One Electric on Angie's list under their "Super Service Award" section...and they really do deserve this rating. I called Dependable One Electric to ask about replacing a malfunctioning photo cell on the outside lamp post of my house. Steve answered the phone and asked when I would like to have the work done. I told him anytime during the week would be fine. He stated he had a van in the area and could perform the work that day. I told him that would be great. A 30 minutes later the electrician arrived and complete the repair within an hour. Quick, efficient and well worth the price. I will definitely use them in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced a photo cell on the outside light pole.
