Overall, they were very pleasant to work with, on time, professional and delivered what they promised. The woman showed up at my house and measured my kitchen and discussed some options for kitchen remodel. She spent plenty of time and was open to my ideas. She took pictures / measurements and everything she needed to complete the job. I went back a few weeks later to see the kitchen design that they suggested based on our conversation. In the end I wasn't thrilled with their suggestions and felt like they didn't bring anything new to the table. I used them because I thought they would help me see things I wasn't in putting together a kitchen remodel. They didn't do that. However, what I did like was that there were very aware of price and recommended plenty of options to keep the cost down. I appreciated that and they came up with ideas I hadn't thought of. They were nice, but I was looking for more "out of the box " thinking. If you a strong idea of what you want to do then they would probably be great to work with since I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me the moon. I didn't use them to remodel my kitchen though, so I can't speak to what happens during the remodel.

I don't think it went at all well. The rep who visited my home was pleasant enough, but I don't think she was specifically trained in interior design. I got the impression that it was just something she enjoyed doing, after having done many other things in her life. She had some good ideas, though. She found out what I had in mind, made a few suggestions, took measurements and left, saying she would be back with designs. A few weeks later, she called and invited me to their office to review them. I met with her and a man who seemed to be the main architect/designer, and they projected some drawing on the flat screen TV. It appeared to me that they had spent perhaps a half hour before I got there on my project; the measurements were done and it looked like my kitchen, but few of the recommendations she had made were evident. We worked for and hour or so making the changes, but they never got fully made while I was there. They said they would make they changes we had discussed and e-mail me the final plans. The next e-mail I got was the same plans - no changes. The island was incomplete, some elements were in the wrong place and/or misaligned, etc. I responded with the changes that still needed to be made and a few questions I had; they sent back another set of drawings that had a few of the changes and a few of the answers. Back and forth we went for several more weeks until I finally decided to cut my losses and cut them loose. The designer and the architect seemed to have different ideas for my kitchen, and they often talked past each other. It seemed to me they were more interested in getting me to sign a contract for the remodel, but with this as a clue to how they operate, I won't be using them for this or any other project.
Description of Work: I purchased the $99 deal for a kitchen remodeling design. The deal was that I would receive the plans for the remodel that I could use with any remodeler.

The Designer/sales person contacted me immediately after purchase of the package, and an appointment to measure my kitchen was arranged. The Designer arrived on time, was pleasant, personable, and knowledgeable, and took measurements of my small and challenging space. The Designer and I took the measurements together, and verified them. I appreciated her suggestions and attention to detail. We scheduled a visit to their showroom for a week or two later. At the visit to the showroom, the Designer introduced me to the Contractor and the three of us sat down to review the 3-D drawing prepared by the Contractor. The plan had been prepared with measurements different from those that the Designer and I had taken, and omitted some measurements and significant structural details that we had discussed. In discovering this, the Contractor said that the plan was preliminary. He was accommodating, and made it clear that he was available for as many follow-up visits to my apartment as would be necessary to get further measurements and to fine-tune a plan, as well as to meet with the Board of my co-op building to arrive at an understanding of any applicable restrictions or limitations. The Designer and I then took a tour of the materials offered by the company, and she was helpful in explaining the many choices available in different price ranges. The Big Deal was useful to me at the cost of $99.00. I learned about the company at reasonable cost and without having to get a lot further into the process, and had the opportunity to evaluate whether the working relationship would be appropriate for me, and for my old co-op building. I have decided not to pursue the opportunity to go further with this company.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal, where the provider offered a kitchen measurement consultation visit, to be followed by a visit to their showroom and presentation of a 3-D kitchen remodel design.

After four different attempts to make contact with them via the telephone, as well as through their online option via a live operator, it was nigh impossible to reach them until the very last minute. They finally reached out to me within less than an hour of the scheduled appointed time. When I finally did speak with owner, he had difficulty confirming if the meeting was still on with Marge. The owner could not initially confirm if the appointment was still on, and expressed to me that if I should drive quite a distance out to their office, and if they were not there, the meeting would be cancelled at their fault. After I expressed that I was not going to drive out to their office on a whim, he finally walked into the next room and confirmed that the conference room was setup to go ahead with the meeting. They clearly wanted me to come out, instead of bringing the plans to me personally, so they could have the possibility of an up sale, which I did not object to. I went to their website and got their directions which were not very clear, and when I got lost, Marge assisted me in locating the office. Once my husband and I made it to the office, I sat across from his desk, facing him as Marge and my husband left the room, to which he remained negligent to my presence for nearly five minutes, even after I had attempted to engage him in general conversation. It was only after I confronted him, that he began to rant at me in a rude fashion, parting the blame on my husband and I for being late in attempt to justify his absurd attitude towards us. At that point I decided I did not want the service, and left with my husband. Marge, who couldn't have been better, tried to salvage the situation in a professional and caring manner. I informed Marge that my decision was not based on actions she had taken, but simply on the level of incompetence on their part. As we finally got in our car, the owner approached us in a hollow attempt to get us to continue our business with him, without offering an apology at all; and even commented that we were ridiculous for leaving, to which naturally following that statement, we declined to move forward with him.
Description of Work: They sent their kitchen designer, Marge, who was very nice and professional, out to measure the kitchen; then informed me that they wouldn't be able to get back to me for a month or more, to which I was okay with. They were also supposed to give me plans on the kitchen design through the deal I purchased.

First, I would like to mention that this appointment was on a Saturday, which is outside of our normal business hours, but we accommodated this special request. When [member name removed] got lost, Marge met her at a landmark and directed her to our office. Since [member name removed] and her husband were 1 hour late to the appointment there mood was a little hurried. Marge did call to confirm the appointment the previous day, but felt it unnecessary to continue to call because when we make an appointment we keep it. If you did not reach us on a Saturday before your appointment it’s because we were on our way to the office to meet with you. The reason we have clients come into the office to meet with us is because we present the design on a big screen, that way the client can change or tweek the drawings in real time before we print and hand them the drawing. You did not give us a chance to present your drawing to you and I assure you that this method is not an “up-sale” it is only an added service to our customers. There were quite a few things in your comments above that you did not object to, so giving us an “F” in your assessment seems unjustified. If you were annoyed by our so-called lack of attention, I remind you that in your own words “I confronted him” which on any level is unacceptable and the owner did call you the next day to apologize but you hung up on him which shows your lack of conviction. We subsequently offered you a $99 refund since you did not wait to receive what you paid for but as a courtesy we granted a refund. Good luck in your renovation project.

I am considering to remodel a kitchen in on an older home, and to assist me with my decision process I chose Cyrus to perform an architectural review and layout for a new kitchen. Soon after I purchased this service, online via Angie's List, Cyrus contacted me and we set up a home visit the next week. Marge, from Cyrus, arrived on time for the meeting at my home. She was professional and asked questions on what I was trying to do, she took measurements and pictures, and finally set up a meeting for the following week in Cyrus' McLean office. The next week I went to the Cyrus office and was met by Marge and James to go over the kitchen drawings. After the meeting Marge walked me through "sample" areas of cabinets, tiles, countertops, etc, to allow me an opportunity to see what choices are available. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the quality of work/output Cyrus provided me. As I begin the selection process to determine candidate contractors, I will surely, include Cyrus.

This project doesn't begin until mid-September and I'll provide details at that time.
Description of Work: Provided me an estimate of kitchen remodel that would include some modifications to an adjourning back porch. Russell was warm and friendly and he was able to help me decide the kitchen layout that would best suit my needs. In about a week, he presented me a proposal, which I thought was reasonable and within buget. I met with the owner, James, to review the contract. James was also pleasant as was other members of the staff. I've been in touch with Cyrus on a regular basis and each time the entire staff, including Bev and Marge--has overextended themselves to meet my needs--be it guidance in coordinating my selection of cabinetry, granite, tile or flooring. They all have been extremely helpful which takes a lot of stress off of me.

We purchased a big deal. They promised to get back to us with our information within 2 days, and they didn't for 2 weeks. I was really disappointed, because the coupon said, they were located Falls church, when the guy came to look at it, we were expecting him to send us an email, to ask if we liked it or whatever else. When they did get back to us, they said that we were supposed to go to their office which was way far away, where we couldn't go to, becuase we have a 9 month old baby, and it was just really annoying. We had to call them a number of times, and I had no idea that I had to go deep into Virginia to get my design plans, and I would not have purchased the coupon, if they would have specified that we would have to go somewhere so far away. We had to hire someone else to do it, because we couldn't wait. It took multiple phone calls, and the eventually sent me the plans. The price was good.

Our apologies if you feel that your service was not as you anticipated. We do have an office in Falls Church, but our design/showroom is in Fairfax, VA which is 10 minutes from the office and it was not an issue with our other clients because they can see the products that we were proposing for their kitchen design and not just look at a 3-D drawing. We had numerous email/telephone messages to you with no response so we are surprised when you mentioned that we did not contact you when we have correspondence to the contrary. With the promotion, we had a backlog on our drawings so the salesperson must have misinterpreted the timeframe with respect to delivery of the drawing. Since we have such good reviews from previous clients, we are surprised of your decision. We wish you luck in your renovation project.

Overall, I had a good experience with Cyrus Construction. They offered the most competitive price and were very responsive in getting back to me on the options for my kitchen renovation. I had a very limited budget and they worked with me to find the right materials as well as giving me options on where I could scale back. I'm very happy with the end product and it looks very well done. The work crew was wonderful and quickly remedied any construction issues. They also worked much faster than I had expected. When it came time to install the counter of my kitchen, the counter fabricator installed the wrong slab of granite despite the fact that I had chosen the specific granite slab previously. Cyrus Construction fought to have the granite counter replaced completely without any additional cost to me. Without their help with the matter I don't what I would have done. I would work with Cyrus Construction again and I would only suggest to others that they work more closely with Cyrus on the construction timing of their project. I would call often to ask about the status and though they were always very responsive, I would have appreciated more information upfront.

Cyrus Construction submitted a 3D profile which did not represent many of the ideas we had agreed upon in our discussion. I've had other 3D profiles proposals provide by different contractors, but Cyrus' profile (along with the followup sent me after I complained) did not measure up to par and did not sufficiently include the proposals we had discussed. I must conclude that providing this service in a quality manner is not a high priority for this company, and reluctantly I won't consider them for my kitchen renovation. From reading their previous reviews, I can see that other customers have had a much better experience.

Our apologies if you feel that your service was not as you anticipated. We provided 2 drawings after several conversations and put on paper what your thoughts were. We ask each client to come to the office to review their design so they can modify in real-time if needed and look through the showroom for ideas. If the client is reluctant (as in this case) then they miss the opportunity to provide valuable input. We wish you luck in your renovation project.

Excellent interaction with Cyrus Construction owner, James, who is a qualified engineer. Kitchen cabinet glass doors had to be redone because glass panels initially were installed incorrectly due to inadequate installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. No cost increase resulted. Installation team was multi-talented, conscientious, very hardworking, reliable, and very pleasant to deal with. Cost of $27,000 excluded cost of appliances but included their installation.
Description of Work: Designed and completely renovated a 40 year old 12 foot by 14 foot kitchen with Armstrong cabinets, GE and Bosch stainless steel appliances including gas range, microwave/hood, French doors refrigerator, dishwasher, porcelain tile floor, granite countertops, under cabinet lighting, and ceramic tile backsplash. Outstanding. Two workers---including the company boss---did the work. Both were polite, informative and personable. Work was meticulous. They took exceptional care to avoid messes from removal, plastering and sanding. Cleaned up carefully after each stage of the job. (Drying time for plaster required more than single session.) They did more than specified in the agreement.

I actually had a lot of problems with them. They try to take care of it, but every time they came I have problems from the very beginning when they tore out the floor and then put in a new sub floor and despite having written in the contract the width of the sub floor they didn't do that and then they put some rock wood on top of that which was uneven and they had to be re do it four times and it is still uneven so then when they put the cabinets on top of that of course there were gaps along the cabinet and then they charged me extra for trim to cover the gaps that shouldn't have been there because they laid the floor uneven and basically just had problems with them from the floor to the ceiling and despite me telling them that the floor was incorrect before they finished it they said oh no no everything is fine and it will be perfect when it is done and of course wasn't. Even the people they use for the counter tops weren't the greatest we upgraded to nice granite but the people who did the counters for them there are places where the edges are still rough and it was not polished properly. I would not use them again in the future.

Your house was built around 1900’s, which had several structural and leveling issues that we had to address. This resulted in several adaptations during the renovation project and we stayed on the job until all the unexpected issues were resolved. We had a final walk-through which you signed off on, and if the granite was not acceptable, then it should have been addressed at that time and not wait a year. The kitchen required all new electrical, plumbing, flooring and cabinets for $32,000. I was visiting the site every time that you requested to insure everything was done to specifications. We always do our job in best way with best quality and reasonable price. Well wish you the best and good luck.

We received three estimates for this work and although Cyrus was not the lowest, we selected them because of the time Russell put into preparing the estimate and walking us through the process. Overall, the project went smoothly and we are thrilled with the finished product. There were a few unavoidable setbacks throughout the project that caused minor delays in our original timeline. They returned several times to correct a few painting and other issues (including a defective toilet that needed to be exchanged). The project foreman Andre was always responsive and reliable. The kitchen backsplash that he installed turned out better than we imagined! The crew worked hard and they were very neat - we were impressed at how well the area was cleaned up after each days work.

We are happy with our new bathrooms. We weren't always happy during the demo and install processes, but the end result is what we wanted, and we are happy with it. At the beginning of the project, we requested estimates by email from 5 contractors. We sent the emails on the same day. Russell from Cyrus Construction was the first to respond and schedule an estimate. They were also the earliest estimate scheduled. When Russell showed up, he was prompt, professional, and kept an open ear. He listened to what we wanted and didn't form any opinions (one contractor told us her preferences and how she?d remodel the bathrooms before even asking what our preferences were). Russell took pictures, measurements, got a sense for our budget needs and what we were looking for, and promised an estimate within a week. He kept that promise. He was the only one of the contractors to provide an estimate within the promised time frame ? we nearly had to beg the others to send us their estimates so we could compare. We selected Cyrus Construction based on their low cost estimate combined with our first impression of Russell?s professionalism, great reviews on Angie?s List, and the firm belief that Russell was more of a partner in the process rather than a contractor. When it came time to select tile, Russell allowed us free reign in his showroom and patiently worked to help select tile, accents, and grout colors. That was a satisfying and fun experience. The foreman on the job was exceptional save for a few things. In one instance, he installed a basic shower drain and not the one he was supposed to because he thought we had chosen poorly and that the drain he put in was the better choice. That was extremely disappointing and caused a minor delay in the project and a put a dent in our confidence level of him. He tried a couple of short cuts ? nothing that would compromise structure or safety, but that he tried in order to speed up the project, only to cause delay. We reported a problem to him with a vent fan he installed ? it was far louder than it was supposed to be. He assured us the noise would go away once he finished ducting and installed the cover. The sound didn?t get any better. The project is over and we are still working with the manufacturer to provide a new fan. Had he taken the time to slow down, listen, and allow for us to return the fan (by the time he agreed it was bad, his crew had already discarded the box). As for the rest of the crew ? we felt they were there to demo, mix thin set, lay tile, grout. The foreman (Roland) and Russell were there to give us bathrooms and peace of mind. There was a clear difference in mindsets between Russell, his foreman, and the crew. During demo, we had to ask the foreman to ask the crew to be careful removing debris and bringing in equipment - they had scratched walls and doorways. Speed is sometimes good; slow and careful is better. It seems almost unfair to give a /C/ for professionalism because Russell is a top-notch professional, but there doesn't seem to be another way to capture a grade we give for the crew. And they were the ones we had to come home to each day. Russell deserves an /A/. Russell was great in handling the times we called or emailed about an issue we wanted resolved and we are pleased with the final result and our final costs. To be fair, we had a number of change orders (adding a towel warmer, new radiator, different toilet than originally purchased, and a few others), and those caused delays themselves, no doubt some of the short cuts were attempts to regain lost time.
Description of Work: We needed two bathrooms remodeled: a three-quarter master bath and a full guest bath. Floor tile, wall tile, plumbing, and fixtures all needed to be replaced.

From the start, James arrived at my home and provided me with an estimate a couple of days later. After some clarifications within the contract, I hired Cyrus Construction to complete my remodel. James was patient and sat down with me to help purchase cabinets and a granite countertop. After providing an initial payment, the crew began work that week, working for a full week, then paused for a period of 3 weeks to wait for the cabinets to arrive. They then returned to install the items, finish tile and begin paint. There was another lull as they were working on other projects simultaneously and were waiting for the granite company to install the countertop. There were some communication issues as to when they would then return, which were immediately and professionally handled by James as soon as I brought them to his attention. The bathrooms were started in late March and finished on Friday May 3rd. There were some issues with water pressure after the fact, but Cyrus Construction returned promptly to attend to this issue. I would definitely recommend this company, but in dealing with the multiple estimates I received recommend making sure you have everything written into the contract for which you expect to have completed.
Description of Work: I hired Cyrus Construction to remodel both of the bathrooms in my condo. I had my master bathroom gutted and the hall bath was remodeled with the tub remaining. In the master bath, I had the wall removed between the bathroom area and vanity and had it turned into one giant bathroom. The bathtub was removed and a new vanity including a second sink was added to the master. The stand-in shower was constructed with a nook and glass shower door, completed tiled with an accent row and seat. The bathroom was tiled and repainted white, and the previous door dividing the vanity and shower area was moved to divide the bathroom and bedroom. There were some delays which occurred because of the items I purchased, and the wait for the cabinet construction. They also had other projects ongoing, so they would return to complete a majority of items at one time. In the hall bath, I had the old vanity removed and replaced with a slightly smaller cabinet with granite countertop (same style as in the master). I then had a vessel sink installed. The room was repainted a light blue, tiled and a new toilet was installed. They listened to my ideas and made sure it was completed according to my design. There were some communication issues which occurred with scheduling, but after speaking with James, he made sure these issues were handled promptly and professionally. The final product was completed a little over a month later and I was extremely happy with the results.

We got Cyrus Construction from Google search engine and after interviewing several other companies we choose Cyrus Construction because of James and reading the company reviews, We decided that Cyrus fit our needs and budget. James provided us with a no obligation 3-D layout of our Kitchen which was very helpful for visualization. Cyrus also provided a large selection of granite, tile and quartz to choose from which made designing very easy. The renovation crew started on time and was responsive to our many questions and design changes. A team member came often to inspect the progress which made us feel comfortable. The order process for materials went smoothly except one order online which we did not anticipate would take longer than 2 weeks. We were happy with the finished product and James was very helpful in our decision process.

I never got an estimate from this company. In fact all he seemed to want to do is buy my house so he could bulldoze it and build a new one.

Response from Cyrus Construction LP
Our records indicate that we visited your property on May 25, 2012 and sent a proposal to you on May 30, 2012 which was verified through the email stamp. Since we did not receive a response to our proposal we assumed that you had changed your mind or selected another contractor. We would have appreciated it if you had called us or emailed us at that time to express your concern and not wait one year. We treat each individual client equal and our primary function is to have 100% satisfaction, sorry we missed out on our communication and wish you luck. Please let us know in the future if we can assist you in any future renovation in order to rebuild our relationship. By the way, we are in the remodeling business and not looking to buy our client’s houses, I am sure you must have mistaken us with another general contractor. Our past and existing clients can validated our quality and responsiveness and we do care and respect our business and what we do.

The finished product was exceptional overall. The process was very lengthy, much longer than we had originally been told. We were told it would be finished in three weeks, and it took at least eight weeks. During this time, we didn't really have a kitchen. We had to be very proactive and really urge them to complete the job.
Description of Work: We did a complete kitchen renovation: floors down to the subfloor, moved a wall, cut down a wall, installed a new ceiling and cabinets and cabinets.

Response from Cyrus Construction LP
Cyrus Construction values each customer and strives to uphold high standards on each of our projects. Understandable setbacks sometimes occur in order processing and customer change orders which can interrupt a proposed project completion date and cause frustration. Cyrus takes pride in notifying clients of any delays in there project and in some cases offset these delays to assure our customers that we are here for them.

Our house had the original kitchen (from the 1960s). We have lived in the house for 30 years and wanted a new kitchen but we were unwilling to deal with the mess of remodeling. We had heard so many horror stories from friends about how long the work took and how inconvenient it was to wash dishes in the laundry basin, etc. I read through the reviews carefully for kitchen remodeling and decided that Cyrus Construction might be the correct place to try. We had several initial meetings with James Araghi, the owner, and emphasized to him that we needed to have the work completed in 2 weeks. He said he could do it--that he had a dedicated crew and that they could work full time on it. Everything needed to be gutted and we even needed a new ceiling as the original ceiling was fluorescent lights behind plastic panels. After selecting the cabinets, the countertop, the flooring, the ceiling lights, the sink, the faucet, etc. etc., we left town and left everything to James and his men. (We did have email connectivity). They did a fabulous job!!! Everything was done when we got home 2 weeks later and it looks wonderful. They had closed up the kitchen so that the rest of the house stayed clean. They also cleaned up everything. I am absolutely amazed that I now that a gorgeous kitchen. I recommend James Araghi and Cyrus Construction unequivocally. The price was also extremely reasonable given they used top quality products.
Description of Work: Completely gutted kitchen and installed new flooring, cabinets, ceiling, lighting, and countertops.

My experience with Cyrus Construction was excellent because of James. He was professional, prompt and reliable every time we met. He discussed various ways we could remodel our kitchen and stay in budget. James had some great ideas and I felt really comfortable going with this company especially since the bid was reasonable. However, my wife liked another sales lady from a competitor and I deferred to her because this was going to be her dream kitchen. If it was my choice, I would have went with James. He was great to work with and appeared to be a straight shooter.

We contracted with Cyrus to completely gut and remodel two bathrooms in our 1961 slit level home. We met with James Araghi and he outlined what we could expect and helped us to find tile, cabinet, and countertop suppliers. The Cyrus price estimate was much better then any other company we consulted with for this project. Additionally, the estimate to complete the renovation of each bathroom was 2 weeks. This is half the time of all the other companies which estimated 4 weeks per bathroom. This is a big deal because it is disruptive to have work done in your home and the faster they can be done the better. James is very responsive to email and telephone calls. He is a very likable and professional individual that I came to like very much on a personal level. The workers were technically outstanding. They did a wonderful job from demolition to the final "fit and finish" work. They were always punctual and courteous to our family. When I had comments or touch recommendations, they quickly responded with no hesitation. The only glitch in the effort was with the fixtures supplier. We used Ferguson's and they were horrible. Their delivery was incomplete and in some cases the wrong items. They delayed our project because we had to wait for them to get the products delivered correctly. James rearranged his schedule so the work was not delayed even though he had other projects scheduled. Cyrus did everything they could to expedite the project. Cyrus also has a new Superintendent, Russell Blake. who was fantastic. He spoke with us daily to ensure that everything was being taken care of to our satisfaction. I will call Cyrus again when we are ready to renovate our kitchen.
