I got this stuff on the internet and it's a two dimensional drawing and no follow up. They were here on the 7th and after a couple of days, I got an email. In terms of the big deal price, I think I could've got something from another firm for free. They took some dimensions and sent a two dimensional drawing showing the measurement. There was no design discussion at all. Responsiveness is good in terms of coming.

This review is really unfair to our company because of the first sentence. I'll have to be captain obvious and point out the fact that the service you bought was for 2D drawings. How or why would it be the contractors fault if you were uncertain or incognizant of your purchase. You were also presented with the option for a full refund. We have record of our proposal and rendering submission along with a follow-up. Our estimator spent 45mins in your basement with you and your wife discussing layout options for the design/renderings we submitted to you. We approach all estimates with the same quality of service and honest attempt to exceed the expectations of our clients. Again I say this review is unfair but we still wish the best for your project.

Cyrus Construction did an excellent job. My apartment had heavy water damage, which needed replacing the floors, cabinets, wall trim and painting, among other things. I interviewed several contractors and Cyrus Construction offered the best service at the best price. Their representative Russell Blake was always willing to go the extra mile to satisfy my concerns. He acted professionally at all moments and was always ready to listen to my suggestions. In the end, my apartment looked like new and their work exceeded my expectations.

Everything went extremely well. Kenny and his team were on time everyday. They were very professional, friendly and polite. I was very comfortable in having them in my home. Kenny is extremely knowledgeable. Every evening I would go downstairs and Kenny would explain what was done and give me an idea as to what he would be doing the following day. Russell was always available if I had a concern. It was interesting to see the progress as it was something new everyday. I am extremely happy with the way the basement turned out. I think Russell, and Kenny and his team were fun to work with. I definitely will recommend Cyrus Construction to my friends. I am looking forward to doing future business with Russell Blake and Cyrus Construction.

Cyrus got back to us in a timely fashion, set up a convenient time to meet, and showed up on time. Russell was professional and helpful with ideas. We have a finished basement and were just trying to see if it could be laid out differently. Given the current positions of our roughed in bathroom, furnace, and hot water heater, we determined there were very few changes that could be made without moving all those things and the huge costs involved. So, we will keep things pretty much the same, but the service was very useful in informing us of what is and is not possible at a reasonable cost. Russell provided 21 pages of cost estimates and plans. Bottom line, we were happy with the service and got what we wanted out of it.

Russell was on-time, bright and attentive. He drew up the complete plan for transforming my unfinished basement into a studio apartment with full bathroom and kitchenette. He sent me an electronic copy to review before we met in person at his office. At our meeting he helped me select the materials for my renovation and explained the differences of different price points for cabinetry, flooring, etc. He seemed very knowledgeable about the products his firm represented. We made a few tweaks to the plan right while I was there in the office and Russell said he would send me the revised drawing with estimate before he left for the day (it was already closing time when I left--but he came through, just as promised). I can't proceed right away with my project because my line of credit has expired, but as soon as I get funding lined up, I hope to sign a contract with Cyrus Construction and begin my renovation.
Description of Work: Met me at the home, measured the space, took notes about what I wanted the space to look like when finished. Photographed entire space. Drew up comprehensive plans for me to review along with a detailed estimate that included everything that would be needed to create the new space.

Cyrus Construction - Excellent Remodel of our Kitchen from start to finish! Russell Blake provided us with great ideas with color photos to give us a real idea of the completed project from taking down two walls for an open concept kitchen into our living and dining room. Beautiful cabinets/hardware, flooring and wall tile to choose from in his large showroom. Russell's crew were efficient with removal of all old cabinets, flooring, drywall etc. Left work area each day neat and clean. Excellent workmanship in installing beautiful new cabinets with hardware, ceramic wall and floor tile. In addition we had recessed and pendant lighting installed that was perfectly located to provide the kitchen with an abundance of light to lighting just over the granite countertop for dining to working on my laptop and relaxing. Phone calls and emails were always answered or returned promptly by their friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would highly recommend Cyrus Construction to anyone who is serious about having a job perfectly executed in all phases of Construction work! And finally, If you are setting a Budget then Cyrus Construction is for you! The company works very hard to stay within the budget set by Russell and I. Thank You for a Beautiful Kitchen Renovation!

We were considering Cyrus construction for a renovation of a newly bought apartment in DC. We sought out several estimates, and the one from Cyrus construction was competitive. We decided in the end to go with another contractor because of personal recommendations, so I cannot comment on the actual work. Nonetheless, we were happy with the communication we had with Russell and the proposal he provided for us. Russell was very responsive, professional and forthcoming, and he was ready to accommodate our schedule. He was also very cordial and understanding when I told him that we were going with another contractor.

Cyrus Construction was great. We had a big job - gut and redo a whole bathroom, tear down walls in the living room (and everything that comes with that - moving electrical and HVAC), build an island with cabinetry in the kitchen, tile a fireplace. We LOVE the end result. We worked primarily with Russell, and he was awesome. He was 100% responsive and patient with us as we had a lot of questions/concerns. His pricing was very competitive (we got several bids for the work), and we're so glad we went with him!

I contracted with Cyrus Construction in 2013 to remodel two bathrooms, one at the lower level and the other on the upper floor. The lower level would be done first since it required excavation of the floor for new plumbing, drainage, and installation of toilet, sink, shower and fixtures. The upper bath would be done subsequently requiring replacement of existing toilet, sink, tub and fixtures. Time estimates given were three weeks for the lower bath and on week for the upper bath (four weeks total). I budgeted for a six week turn around allowing for unforeseen discoveries not uncommon in construction. I should say in the outset that the company owner was reachable when I needed to bring something to his attention and generally responsive however, dealing with the workers assigned was challenging. The workers were not supervised on the job by the company nor were there regular visits with homeowner on customer satisfaction. Their time estimation was way off. The lower level bathroom took 6 weeks to complete. For the upstairs bathroom two weeks. Eight weeks actual vs four weeks estimated! There were issues during the construction. Construction debris was not removed from premises on a daily basis as stipulated in the contract and sat on the side yard for days or more. Dust abatement was inadequate and I had to install additional measures to keep dust and debris at a manageable level in the living quarters and other parts of the house. Many times I had to draw up punch lists and negotiate timelines with the lead worker to better manage the tasks that needed to be done to get them done in a timely fashion. In the upstairs bathroom, due to rotting in some sections of the sub floor I agreed to pay to have it replaced. My new acrylic Kohler tub was subsequently installed on that sub floor albeit improperly. After the installation was complete I discovered repeated squeeks every time I stepped in the tub to take a shower. I investigated by looking through a trap door under the tub - the tub was just put on the subfloor. I called Kohler and explained it, and they said it was squeaking from improper installation. The tub instructions stated that it should have been either glued to the floor with construction adhesive, or sit on a two inch bed of prepared Portland cement. When I called Cyrus Construction about that, the owner said he was losing so much money on the job, and they could nail it down. I told him that was unacceptable. He relented and the workers came back and jacked up the tub 6-12" so they could put the cement down and lower the tub back down. I asked the worker if he'd insulated the shower pipe since it was installed in an exterior wall. He said yes. I checked the wall cavity while the tiles were removed to repair the tub installation with a flashlight and saw there was no insulation. At my direction pipe insulation was added. Overall I'm glad to have done the projects but the process was more aggravating and stressful than it needed to be. The homeowner shouldn't have to be the daily supervisor since that's why you hire a professional company. The workers did good work but required frequent supervision and validation of their work. The lag (May to November 2013) was due to workers' unavailability to return to repair areas needing attention after installation. I would recommend homeowners put EVERYTHING in writing and in the contract for even something as insignificant as shut-off valves for they could be add-owns. Opportunities wil be exploited for additional charges. Without my supervision I'd give them a C for quality. I caught many errors during the project that required my personal intervention. So, including my daily supervision to make sure things are done right I would give them a B for quality of the work completed. I would also recommend homeowners get a permit from the county for any significant bathroom remodel for the inspections are well worth the costs. More short cuts will be made without permits than with at the homeowner's expense. I hope the company owner takes these comments and critiques as data for improvement of services and to enhance the customer experience and deliver better products.
Description of Work: Two bathroom remodels. Designs were prepared by the homeowner. All fixtures, toilets, sinks, cabinets, tub, tiles were also purchased by homeowner. Contractor performed all construction and installations. The work began in late April/early May and didn't finish until November 2013.

Initially contacted Cyrus Construction via phone, to schedule an appointment for an estimate for a major renovation of our Master Bedroom/Master Bathroom and Walk in Closet. Whoever picked up the phone was too busy at the time and asked me to send email requesting the appointment, and they will respond promptly. After providing them the details on an email on 3/12, never heard back, so on 3/18 I sent them a follow up email. Again, there was no response, so on 4/1, I posted this review on AL... I immediately got a call and an email, claiming that in some mysterious way, I never received the email they supposedly sent me on 3/18, found it suspicious (I did also check my Junk Mail and deleted email, just to verify), but decided to give them a 2nd chance anyway. We set up an appointment for Monday 4/6 at 2:00, and THEY NEVER SHOWED UP, NEVER A PHONE CALL, OR AN EMAIL... I sent them one more email, expressing my dismay - and several responses back claiming the contractor called in sick, and nobody new what was on his calendar. So - Bottom line - unaccountable.
Description of Work: Contacted Cyrus Construction via phone, to schedule a time for them to come over to look at our master bathroom, master bedroom so they can propose a design for remodeling and bid on the work. Was told over the phone (cell phone), that they can not take the information at this time, and top please send them a request via email and they'll respond promptly. They did respond to my email, asking for exact address, and after that, never heard back. Sent them 2 more follow-up emails, and never heard back.. Finaly on 4/2 they called me back to schedule an appointment. I'll update the review again after we meet them....

My husband and I enjoyed working with Russell and his team. Cyrus contruction was very professional, communicative and punctual. The entire project took less than two months even with snow days and a few snags we didn't anticipate. Everytime we had an "old house" issue it was communicated to us along with the cost to repair. The team was willing to work wtih an outside electrician when my husband chose to bring in someone we'd worked with before to replace an electric panel. Everything was done in an orderly fashion so we weren't without a kitchen for long which was very important since we have an infant. We had new cabinets installed, new appliances including a wall oven/microwave unit, dishwasher, and gas range--which they had to run a line for. They moved the fridge so they had to run a water line for that to it's new location. We had a farmsink installed, new floors, backsplash and countertop. They installed a new hood and had to run an exhaust to the outside of the house. Installed recessed lighting with a dimmer switch. In the sunroom we wanted them to fix the doors (4 sets) because they weren't opening we weren't sure what the problem was but when they removed the old floor they found that the joists were rotted in some parts to due to poor construction so they had to fix and add support before continuing with the work. Once that was repaired they added insulation, subflooring, radiant heat, and new tile floors, painted the walls and ceiling, installed a ceiling fan and a new heat pump heat AC system. Happy to say that room is now poperly insulated and warm when it needs to be and all our doors function. Everything looks amazing. I will definitely be contacting them for more work once we recover from this project.

We had such a great experience and thought the 3-D renderings really brought our kitchen to life. We are still deciding on who to choose to do the project, but our experience with Cyrus thus far has been stellar and we feel we got a lot for our $99. Whether we work with them or not, I am very happy we got the deal.

I selected Cyrus Construction to do the above mentioned work based on my interaction with their representative Russell Blake. This was the first time my husband and I had ever engaged a company to do work more extensive than installing a bathroom floor, so I wanted to select a company I felt assured would deliver quality service. The work was divided between three teams; inside/entry door/outside. Since obtaining the deck permit was hitting a few snags, the inside team began work on the closet. The initial closet design was to demo the walls of the middle closet to create two side-by-side closets. Each closet would have a ~ 48" opening with two sets of bi-fold doors. The closets' interior dimensions would differ but from the outside everything would look symmetrical. Duct work in the left closet was to be boxed in. The closets were demoed the first day, and construction began the second day. It was after the second day that I saw a problem. The boxed-in duct work took up most of the left closet and the location of the dividing wall was wrong. I called Russell in a panic the next morning. It was agreed to stop the work and to review the design. We ended up using a closet design we saw in a local showroom; one opening with four sliding doors on a double bypass track. Russell sent us to House of Doors in Alexandria to order our entry door and closet materials. I ended up going well above the $700.00 allowance for materials, but the entry door, closet doors and hardware are higher end and beautiful. While waiting for the materials to arrive, the inside team returned to demo their initial work. A few weeks later the materials were delivered and work resumed. The entry door team did a spectacular job installing our new Simpson wood door--the work was to install a standard pre-hung door but ended up being a custom job due to our non-standard sized door opening. The inside team returned and framed in the new closet and installed the bathroom exhaust fan. Days later the drywall installer came to do his work, then the inside team returned to finish installing the sliding doors. The inside and entry door jobs were very well done. It took until the end of September to procure the deck permit, and work began in October. Van was the outside team lead and had our deck demoed and built in five days. His work was spectacular. We now have a well-built, beautiful deck to enjoy. We definitely recommend Cyrus Construction. I think the initial hiccup was due to a lack of clear communication between all parties, but this was quickly resolved and in the end we got prompt, wonderful service.
Description of Work: Installed new front door; demoed and rebuilt 12'x12' second story deck; demoed three single closets in main bedroom--all doors/openings were different sizes--and built one large wall closet; installed bathroom exhaust fan with roof vent.

Let me first start off with the professionalism. My wife and I were looking to do à kitchen remodel. I spoke to the manager on the phone who seemed to be very knowledgeable of what we were looking to do. After speaking with the manager we scheduled a meeting at our house to see what possibilities we could come up with. The manager showed up on time and was punctual. After reviewing our kitchen the manager suggested to us about refacing our cabinets because they were already top quality and it would save us money which I personally liked. Even though my wife and I never heard of refacing the cabinets the manager sat us down and explained all the details which made us even more comfortable. The manager then presented us with samples and color schemes that could turn our kitchen into a dream kitchen for us. We then decided to go for it and we proceeded to schedule a date to start the process. The project for our dream kitchen got started 2 weeks from the home visit. During the 2 weeks before the project got started the manager kept in constant contact with us giving us updates. The project started on time as promised and the manager stated it would only take 4 days. While the workers were in our house they were very respectful of our belongings and always asked me before moving anything. The project actually finished a day earlier which made me and my wife ecstatic. The quality of the work was exceptional and I didn't expect things to turn out like they do on HGTV. I already asked them about refacing my bathroom cabinets and other possibilities in our house.
Description of Work: Cyrus construction refaced my kitchen cabinets and also installed my countertop.

James had done 2 projects for us in a previous house and so we were familiar with Bathroom Specialists and chose them for a master en suite renovation. While the project took longer than we had expected, I am still giving James a A here for a couple of reasons. James is very patient, calm and will take the time to do the job the way you want it done and has no problem with putting in the extra effort to tweak or adjust something. James also didn't nickel-and-dime us and happily did extra work that was not in scope. He returns calls promptly and will visit if asked even long after the job is complete and payment made. As a complete after thought, we spoke with James about making our (plain) living room a bit more interesting. We tossed ideas back and forth and finally settled on what we want. Great Idea and design. We will use them again and recommend them to families and friends. Risa

I would recommend Cyrus Construction for home remodeling. They recently completed my kitchen renovation and the results are beautiful. I selected Cyrus because they were able to offer me a custom renovation. I purchased all new cabinets, but I generally kept the layout of the existing cabinetry/appliances and I also added pantry cabinets and 12 inch cabinets extending all the way to the opposite wall and narrow enough not to cover the large kitchen window on that wall. Initially they weren't sure if the cabinet maker, Showplace, could customize the cabinets to this more narrow depth, first offering to leave over a foot of space before the wall. But they were not deterred when I told them I had to have the cabinets reach the wall. They made some calls to Showplace and were able to customize the cabinets how I wanted. Then they got to work creating a 3-D design. I made many alterations to the design based on finish and molding preferences. They were very open to my changes. I do want to warn you that once a design was finalized and the cabinets ordered, it took about two months for them to be constructed and delivered. Work finally began with demolition that uncovered an issue with pipes that were placed inside the demolished pantry that needed to be moved into the interior wall. Cyrus recommended a reputable sprinkler line certified plumber to remove the sprinkler line and charged a reasonable change fee to remove two other pipes. The contractor assigned to our house was very experienced. He offered multiple solutions when issues arose as they do with any renovation. Also, we were never charged extra for any of the preferences the contractor addressed. For example, we added new lighting and instead of having two electrical boxes with distance between the switches, the contractor pulled out all the existing wiring so he was able to combine all the switches into one electrical box. Also, the window frame had a notch in the windowsill because the cabinets needed to be able to open. At my request, he removed the windowsill completely and created a beautiful window frame at no additional cost. Finally, the contractor came back multiple times until the kitchen was perfect. We did have to share the contractor and his team with other jobs. We would have preferred better initial communication from Cyrus regarding when when the contractor would be working on our house. The delays could have been better communicated although the quality of work and finished product. Any remodel takes patience and Cyrus remained committed to my satisfaction. I really appreciated that. Give these guys a shot and they'll do their best to make you happy. We were very satisfied with the finished product.

Things went surprisingly well! I expected problems as with previous experiences with GC's but this experience was quite the exception. I received renderings for both bathrooms as promised. I selected my materials from their vendor list. We agreed on a start date and started as planned. We missed the projected completion date by a few days due to an unexpected change order after the demo of the tub. The salesman, office staff, project foreman, installers, and cleaners were all efficient, professional, and easy to work with. All expectations were met and exceeded for both bathrooms.

Excellent work across the board, carpentry work was particularly exceptional. Project lead and crew chief very easy to deal with, adaptable to our desire to use our preferred electrician and make alterations. Work proceeded steadily on the project, there were only a few idol days when work was not ongoing, a rarity based on our experience. Painting preps and painting was good, the daily cleanup met expectations. Trustworthy, and we believed our possessions were secure if we were absent from the home. Not cheap, but not expensive either, we believe we got good value for our investment. We have had plenty of construction projects to modernize our home and this contractor was the best one that we have had.
Description of Work: Upgrading a finished basement of a 54 year old brick home in McLean. Several square feet of floor and drop ceiling tile, and drywall was installed following removal of wood panels and other demolition. No load bearing walls were alter, some minor wall adjusts made. No plumbing was necessary but a new bannister and handrail for the stairway was installed, as well as new carpeting over the steps.

Generally went ok. They were helpful in the design and gathering of the right fixtures. They would go through stretches of being quite responsive and helpful, and then periods where it was hard to get an answer from them. The quality overall was good. We had a few issues along the way (e.g., installing the wrong type of pipes despite our agreeing to a specific set), most of which they were able to fix at their cost. The one thing they couldn't fix was the tile, which was good, but very slightly uneven. They also accidentally cut a line that was in the wall for the doorbell, which we didn't realize until a couple days after they left. Overall, they were fine, I'd be happy to work with them again, but I'm not rushing to tell my friends about them either.

I bought the deal and responded the next day, but they said they didn't service Maryland, but they didn't check up on where the work needed to be done. A couple emails back and forth, so we finally called them and we just couldn't settle on an appointment date, so we decided to cancel the deal.

Overall this project went really well. We had Cyrus Construction come out to review the project and offer design options. After recording our expectations and kitchen measurements, they composed a rendering of the proposed kitchen layout. We made a few minor adjustments, selected our cabinets, and had them give us a quote. The pricing was on the money with the budget we relayed to Cyrus. After getting 2 other contractors to come out, we decided to go with Cyrus. The next step was to select our finishing materials. We selected our tile flooring and cabinet hardware from the Cyrus Construction showroom. The granite was selected from there granite yard in Chantilly. After first my husband and I were a bit overwhelmed my vast amount of selections. We narrowed our choices down and found a selection that worked within our allowance. The only other selections we needed to make were our appliances. We found everything we needed at HH Greg. After everything was selected the orders were placed and the cabinet production began. We waited 5 weeks for our Showplace cabinets. After the cabinets arrived, they called to schedule a start date. The first day of the project, we met the project foreman and did a final review of the project. After installing a lockbox at our property, the began demolition the following day. After the demolition, they found an issue with our subfloor (water damage from a previous fridge leak). They stopped the project until my we came home later that evening to review before repair. After issuing us a change order for the additional scope of work, they proceeded with the project. Our floors went in first. The walls were then painted. Our cabinets were next. One of our cabinets arrived damaged from the manufacture. Showplace Wood Products replaced the damaged cabinet with no hassle. While it did take 1.5 weeks to get the replacement, Cyrus continued to work. Our appliances arrived on schedule and were installed accordingly. We were glad the damaged cabinet was a wall cabinet so all the base cabinets were installed right away prior to the appliance delivery. The granite was installed with the sink, faucet, and disposal shortly thereafter. At this point, the project was basically complete. There were 5 items on our final punch which were all addressed prior to our project completion. I was very anxious and nervous to start this project as this was our first major renovation. My husband has been our "contractor" for the past 7 years but this was certainly a job for the pros. We couldn't be happier with our decision the go with Cyrus. James and Russell maintained constant communication with both me and my husband throughout this process (totaling 4 weeks from start to finish). The crews were clean and easy to communicate with as well. We'll be remodeling our master bathroom later this year or early next year and I guess you know who we'll be calling!
Description of Work: Full Kitchen Remodel. New cabinets, countertops, sink, faucet, and tile flooring (all purchased from Cyrus Construction). We also had new appliances installed by Cyrus Construction.
