Our sub pump failed and every other provider was busy and couldn't come out. They came out right away, accessed the situation and even had a replacement already on the truck. He was excellent! He was very knowledgeable, friendly and did a wonderful job!

The provider arrived at the scheduled time, and did the maintenance. He was really clear and communicative throughout, and (rightly) warned me that we may have to replace our outdoor unit in the future as it is more than 10 years old.

I contacted Cropp Metcalfe to get a quote on work for my new home. The first call was transferred to 3 different people. I was put on hold for over 5 minutes so I hung up. I called again a few hours later and was disconnected several times by the person who answered the call. Finally I reached a salesperson and was told they could not visit my home and give me a quote until September. I will look for another company who actually wants my business.

I called to reschedule my appointment and was put on hold for 10 minutes. I had to get off the phone to deal with an emergency so I hung up. I called back 30 minutes later and was again put on hold for 10 minutes. When the lady finally answered, she had my appointment entered wrong. Instead of working with me to change it, she got frustrated, said "fine, I'll cancel it." Then she hung up on me. With all the stress of purchasing a new house and trying to schedule repairs while working full time, I really did not appreciate the lack of customer service!

There was a miscommunication with the "estimate" (service call vs. a sales call) and we are using this as training to improve in the future. We did cancel the appointment as requested, and we hope this customer will give CroppMetcalfe another opportunity in the future.

I called CroppMetclafe because I was in a pinch. I attempted to upgrade my Thermostat to one of those fancy wifi ones myself and in the process of doing so, I thought I damaged the furnace control board. The HVAC would not turn on even after switching back to old thermostat. I called CroppMetclafe and the technician arrived within 1 hour. He did a very thorough analysis if the system and determined it was in good working order, but that the new and old Thermostat was no longer good. He suggested i buy a replacement Thermostat like the old one I had before because the new one was not compatible and the old one was damaged when I removed it. It was a bit on the pricy side to get this service, but they told me their price on the phone before showing up so I happily paid it because of their honesty and professionalism. As far as their service technician is concern, he seemed to be very knowledgable and I would have graded this review an overal A if it wasn't for the Sales Consultant. My Furnace is 24 years old and in need of replacement. Even though it is in good working order, the technician recommended that I start to consider replacing the HVAC because it was showing signs of wear. I took the advice of the technician and scheduled several contractors to provide me quotes for a replacement HVAC. CroppMetclafe being one of them. Chris from CroppMetclafe came out the same day I had several other contractor give me HVAC quotes. Chris took some quick measurements and suggested that I choose a Carrier HVAC system. He asked for my e-mail and told me that he would send me several options via e-mail. I thought that was a good idea because all the other contractors provided me with a written estimate upfront, but I rather have a detailed electronic copy. Fast forward a week later and I yet to receive a quote from CroppMetclafe. I sent two follow up e-mails to Chris and still no quote. So rather than wait longer, I chose one the the other contractors instead to replace my HVAC. So summary their service techs are great, but sales... not so great.

He was very thorough, but perhaps too thorough. The routine inspection took over 3 hours. In the end, he recommended a new condenser. But he filled the old one with Freon anyway. I was not consulted as to whether we should fill the air conditioner with Freon if the whole unit was going to be replaced.

There appears to be some discrepancy between this customer's review and our technician's report in our system. The technician said he did find it slightly low on freon R 22 and he did quote the customer before he added the one lb of R22 which the price included labor. He also said the contactor was hanging up when he first got there and he was able to get it working. He did mention to customer about upgrading unit and he said the customer had already discussed it with one of CroppMetcalfe's salesman. We also would apply the money spent on freon towards purchase of unit if he were to purchase from us. All of the CroppMetcalfe reps I've met have been truly exceptional. Eric was the sales rep who spent an hour patiently walking me through my alternatives (to repair or replace) and laying out the cost options in depth; he was courteous and stayed in touch by phone as the work was completed. Steve and Tyrone, the installers, worked all day and late into Thanksgiving Eve to complete the installation. They were polite, worked those long hours unstintingly, and treated my home as if it was their own, making sure to clean up and dispose of all trash and debris. Since then, two service technicians, Nabil and Carlos, have performed routine service checks on the system; they also were courteous and took time to answer my questions and explain what service checks were being performed. I can't praise these CroppMetcalfe guys enough. They all behaved like consummate professionals, who love what they do and place their customers first. They are the best!
Description of Work: My 20-year old heating unit stopped working suddenly in late November, during a particularly cold stretch. I contacted another service provider with whom I had an annual service contract. I was told that its technicians were busy and could not even come to diagnose the furnace problem until two weeks later. My house was freezing, and I was frustrated and desperate after contacting two other vendors who also said it would be two weeks before anyone could come to my house. I knew I needed a new furnace and told that to each of the vendors, but it made no difference. I had used CroppMetcalfe earlier in the year for a minor plumbing issue and was most pleased with their service, so I telephoned the Fairfax office, described my problem, and a service rep was dispatched to my home the same day. After a thorough exam and explanation of options, I decided to purchase a new heating & cooling system, a new water heater and service contract. All work and installation was completed the following day.

Came to service humidifier. Rendered air cleaner inoperable in the process. Disclaimed responsibility. Claimed need $477 part. With one call to manufacturer, determined service man error, and with manufacturer telephone assistance, fixed myself for zero cost within 30 minutes.

This work was done by Peed Plumbing (they got excellent reviews on Angies' List). On 3/4 they came out and fixed everything to my satisfaction. By Friday (3/6), the kitchen faucet had low water pressure again. I called and called and kept getting sent to Voicemail. The following week, I found out that they were acquired by Cropp Metcalfe. I called Cropp and they told me that I was out of luck. They said they would not honor the work that was done just the week before by the company that they proudly acquired. I called a few times and got the same answer - that I would have to pay again. I emailed the President of the company along with the business development director about the situation and heard nothing back. I understand that they can't go back months and fix problems that have come up with businesses they acquire - but just days before??? I think it is bad business, poor customer service and just a terrible way to earn customer loyalty. They could have flipped me over to become a customer for life. However, now I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole and you better believe that I will be telling everyone in my community to stay away.

Late Saturday afternoon disaster. Sewer backed into basement. Tough to find the needed service. First company gave a window of 9 pm to midnight and cost of about $900. Called CroppMetcalfe. Window of 5 to 8 pm. Cost $500, but at that point did not care. Told them to come. Ended up being $275. Walter was awesome. Arrived at about 6pm. Had the drain cleared in about 15 minutes. He did not have a camera but explained the likely problem. Roots. He was correct. He did not have a line camera but promised someone would come out and do during the week. They did. Great. Enjoyed the video. Got an estimate for the line repair work. Collecting at least two more estimates before I decide on who will repair/replace the sewer line. CM has a leg up on the others because of their responsiveness and Walter's professionalism.
Description of Work: Snaked and ran a camera through our sewer line. Root clog caused a back up into basement.

The installation went well. The team arrived right on time and worked diligently throughout the day to complete the large job by early evening. The workmen were very professional, courteous, and took the time to explain what they were doing and how the system worked. Eric Ettare worked with us from day one and explained the options available to us as well as the pros and cons of various systems. He remained engaged throughout the installation and helped address operational issues after installation. The support overall was excellent.
Description of Work: Cropp-Metcalfe removed two old HVAC systems and installed two new state-of-the-art systems, including the heat pumps, air handlers, humidifiers, and thermostats.

They got the heat working. It was pretty called but they were able to come and get it done.

I guess they come every month or so. They ask if there are any changes or needs. I have some traps and stuff so they do check those. They usually make us aware of the other services they have. They are friendly.

Cropp Metcalfe has been our HVAC service provider for more than 10 years, beginning with the replacement of the heat pump on an old townhouse, the replacement of the A/C compressor on our current home, routine scheduled maintenance, and the occasional repair. For years, we simply contact CM and request our regular technician, Mr. Nabil Chaoul, who has always been prompt, courteous, and professional in every respect. It is for this reason that no one else from CM has ever provided us with HVAC maintenance -- Mr. Chaoul is nothing short of outstanding!! When we had our current A/C compressor installed some years ago, the CM installers failed to provide a new base, leaving the new system on a smaller base that was unsteady. I immediately contacted CM and explained the problem and the response was that the original contract did not include a new base. I responded that anyone could see that the old base was not the correct size and the instability was such that eventually there would be problems with the new unit. CM made good and returned to our home to swap out the base. This past Spring, upon having the A/C compressor disconnected and moved to have our foundation excavated and resealed, we had problems with the HVAC company working for the foundation company and did not trust their efforts. For that reason, we immediately contacted CM and asked to have Mr. Chaoul make one of his twice annual visits (we have the "gold" plan) and specifically asked that he carefully look at the unit. Mr. Chaoul found problems and quickly corrected them as part of his service. Having Nabil Chaoul as our regular technician provides us with a sense of security that our systems are being carefully and well maintained. And, our interactions contribute to what one might think of as a small town atmosphere in an area that is only 20 minutes from our nation's capitol. Mr. Chaoul is more than our go-to technician -- he has become a friend. Cropp Metcalfe will obviously be our provider for many years to come. Yes, they may be a bit pricey in contrast to other HVAC providers, but the cost is well worth the peace of mind.

It was not a great experience. I'd say giving them a C is charitable. They came in and even though I explained to them on the phone the type of building I live in, I live in a high-rise condo they came in and they were not prepared for that. The service person that came out, the technician complained and said, I don't think I can get the equipment in and then he sat out front and talked with another technician that came up in a different truck and joked around. They didn't seem to have any concern for my time. When they came in, they started spraying compressed air into the ducts, I didn't know it at the time but there are smoke sensors in my duct work and spraying all that compressed air set off the fire alarm in the building. They didn't do a very good job and didn't seem to be very knowledgeable.

We went with another company and it was very sad since we had Croppe for 10 years. They have gotten too big and the people who come to service and sell the equipment dont seem as careful and friendly any longer.
Description of Work: We used Crop Medcalf for about 10 years and they always came and did a good job, then in the fall they came and checked the units ( we have two) and they said it was fine. Within a month one unit upstairs broke and the person who came said it couldnt be fixed. Then they send another person that said it could be fixed but it wasnt worth doing and he sent a slaesman to our home. The salesman came, with an attitude. Had nothing to show us about what units were being offered and told us which one he thought we should get . We called other places after he left and picked another company who offered the same unit for $1000 less with a year to pay no interest. So we went with them A month after it was put in a very nice man from Croppe Medcalf called and asked when the repairs would be done since he was ordering the repair parts and I told him we got a new unit and told him what happened. He said the service person came to him with what needed to be repaired and since we had a contract it would have been about $200 but the person who came here to sell us never told him anything. He was such a nice man and I felt bad because if they had offered a repair we would have taken it but they didnt.

Perfect. I'm a Gold Member with them. They are super good. I have had to call them several times in the middle of the night for furnace repairs and twice for a plumbing disaster, one of which was after returning home from an overseas trip, turning the water back on, and the faucet fell off. We had to catch the water from the shut off in a bucket until they arrived. They were there 20 minutes and the repair was done. They are superb. They are a little pricy, but well worth it when you need plumbing or heating and air repairs or replacements.

This was the first time that I'd used this vendor; the company that we used in the past has merged or been bought by CroppMetcalfe so when we called to schedule an inspection we found out that C&M Exterminators had changed. We were satisfied with the services received; it might be added that we received a coupon to use, which is what prompted us to call. Basically, we were satisfied with the service provided and would call CroppMetcalfe again. I might add that we do not remember the exact date that they came to our home, but since a date had to be entered, I had to choose something.

The technicians were A+. On time, everything as expected, good natured, respectful of our home. The sales person was persuasive enough to have me agree to buy his product (Carrier) over a much less expensive one. Price negotiations, although not successful from my point of view, were professional and mutually gentlemanly. Due to a serious miscommunication problem (aren?t all problems the result of miscommunication?) we, at first, had trouble filing for, and then collecting a substantial rebate from Carrier Corporation. Cropp Metcalfe was insrumental in interceding on our behalf with Carrier, and I am promised receipt of the rebate in about one month. This would conclude with a high note, what was, on balance, our very positive experience with Cropp Metcalfe.

This is my second time dealing with CroppMetcalfe. What an excellent company! Very responsive to provide a quote when my main water line broke (just after the utility company valve...of course). After reviewing discussing the quote, they were able to start the job the very next day. The quality of work exceeded our expectations! They will be my first call the next time something happens. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

Furnace check and maintenance seemed to go well. The technician was very professional and seemed very knowledgeable. But he did not have the humidifier evaporator pad on the truck for my model humidifier, so they had to come back. The guy who came back (not the guy who first did the furnace maintenance) did not really know what he was doing. He had trouble getting the wires disconnected on the humidifier to open it to replace the pad. After he left, I noticed there was still a part in the box from the pad. It looked up like a small filter that goes at the water intake port to the pad. I looked up online where that filter was supposed to go, opened the humidifier myself and found that he had not installed any filter. I finished the job myself. Also, they charged me $75 for a pad that can be found on the internet for around $20-25. (and that is after they charged me for the service that included installation.) Very irritating. I give them high marks on the furnace work, and low marks on the humidifier.

I have used the company for about 10 years. They are a local business and have good customer service. They peruse solutions. We had a problem with a relatively new furnace and they kept on the issue until it was resolve. It did take about a month to resolve the issue because it was a very technical issue. Their pricing is reasonable. Their plans offer different tiers of customer service. The staff is very responsive and call you back.

I wanted to write a good review - in fact, I almost did. The guy who first came out was very professional and seemed to do a very thorough inspection of the situation. He alerted me to some things I did not know about our heating system and all of the radiators were pumping out good heat by the end of the visit. I was thrilled! I even purchased a "bronze" membership plan from him. However, my enthusiasm lasted for only about 30 minutes after he was gone, when I noticed that water was leaking out of the boiler, all over our basement floor. I immediately called back and was told I would have to wait until after 6pm for another serviceman to arrive. He identified multiple points of failure in the system - and, of course, numerous expensive parts that needed to be replaced - a pressure relief valve, a pressure reducing valve and a backflow preventer. Although this gentleman was professional and polite, just as the prior one was, he said he did not have the parts to fix the problem - they would have to be ordered, for a total of $850. He promised that we would get the repair done the following day (today) and that we would receive a call in the morning to let us know what time they would arrive. No one called, so I did. Now I'm being told the parts won't be in for 2-3 days. We currently have NO HEAT in the house. So, just to sum up - we had a functioning heating system (albeit with some clanging noise) BEFORE they arrived. After the repair, we were left with NO HEAT. Yet, there seems to be no sense of urgency or responsibility to get the problem fixed.
Description of Work: Evaluated the boiler to find out what was causing loud shrieking noises every few minutes. Added water to the boiler.
