Description of Work: This is my HVAC company, and a contract had been established by the previous owner. I took over the contract when I bought the house a couple of years ago.

I prefer a smaller company that responds and makes an effort to keep my business. C-M is probably a fine company but my needs and inquiries were not answered in several calls. I have since found another company for the semi-annual check ups and service.

Description of Work: They replaced a dangerously corroded flue pipe for our gas hot water furnace boiler. Quick and professional in every way, saving us from possible carbon monoxide asphyxiation during the winter heating season.

On the rare occasion we've needed a repair, that has been handled well and in good time also. We intend to stay with them as long as we are in this house.

Description of Work: We got a quote for the replacement of our heat pump from Cropp Metcalfe, which had been providing our heating maintenance for several years. The process of getting the evaluation and quote went extremely well and they were highly competitive. We ended up choosing a different company mainly because it came down to very minor differences in the quote, and we were less happy with Cropp Metcalfe's work on our maintenance contract (The maintenance people always behaved like salesmen, trying to convince us that we needed something new).

Description of Work: The blower failed in my heating system. Because it was so old the technician had to make a different blower fit in the system. He was able to get it done promptly and it worked fine. He was very prompt and professional.

Ordered new blower (under warranty. Two days later a different tech (Erick Saravia) installed the new blower. Both were very professional, on time, and seemed to enjoy their careers. Good job. Description of Work: I have a HVAC maintenance policy with them so they are my first choice for plumbing work. I called them for, what I hoped was, a phone estimate for repairing a basement sump pump. I left a voice message requesting the estimate and my cell number. They called my home number and convinced my husband that I had requested an in-home estimate and that they could be there within the hour. Needless to say, they arrived and proceeded to explain how now we owed them $90 for the visit to do the estimate. At this point it seemed silly to not have them do the repair, which my husband authorized. Only then did they call my cell with a question about my original price quote inquiry. Because they were $200 more expensive then an equally qualified competitor I would not have authorized the work... but it had already been completed. ARGH!! On the good side... the work was done correctly.

Description of Work: We use CroppMetcalfe to check out and 'tune up' our gas hot water heating and separate central air conditioning systems each year; the cost shown is for their "bronze" service contract. They come when scheduled and complete this work in less than an hour. In addition, we have called them several times over the past 5-6 years to fix problems with these systems. They have replaced both the condenser and air handler units of our AC at separate times. The quality of the work depends on the technician who responds. Some are very well-trained and know what to do; others have in the past seemed to be less skilled, sometimes requiring a second visit from a more senior technician. While their service contract price itself seems reasonable, their technicians always seem to be looking for something else to fix, replace, add on, etc. and that additional work is often expensive. Sometimes what they suggest seems reasonable; at other times it appears not to be essential, but just a way to do more work, which we have declined. Nevertheless, we are generally satisfied with this company.

Description of Work: Called several companies....this one responded first. The water in my kitchen sink would go down unless the garbage disposal was turned on. The Tech,.Robert R. was polite,funny, knew what he was doing and was very professional. While I think the cost was a little on the high side. I would use them again....if they sent Robert!

Description of Work: My hot water was hot but had no pressure. The technician quickly and correctly diagnosed the problem and offerred to repair the defective part for a reasonable price. He did not pressure me to buy a new water heater or any extended service contract. He checked everything on the water heater and offered to have a colleague call to address another problem in the house that we discused. My hot water is better than ever. I am very pleased with the service.

Description of Work: New (gas) heating and air conditioning system. We have had very good service from Cropp-Metcalfe with our former system (12 years old) that they installed, replacing the original, also installed by them. We thought we needed to install two or split systems as the top floor of our three floor town house had never been sufficiently cool in summer and the lower floor was always too cool, summer and winter. CM suggested that might be true but convinced us to go with one system (less $$) and have our duct work inspected, noting we could always add a second system. Several openings/cracks/etc had developed in the ducts over 35 years and a lot of the cooling and heating was escaping into the attic or walls. For approximately $1,200, they relined the ducts and our top level has never been so comfortable in the summer. And the new CVAC system is so quiet !

Description of Work: On March 24th when we had our a/c units annual service done, it was recommended to us that we should that we should install wet switches on two of our units that are on the fourth floor. I agreed, the parts were ordered and on March 25th, I made an appointment to have the switches installed on 4/27/11 at 7:30 am. On 4/26, I was called to confirm the appointment. On 4/27/11. technician, John Billington arrived at 8:30. When I asked him why he did not call to inform me he was running late, he told me he is not allowed to call the customer. I told him I had to leave for work at 10, which is why I made the early appointment and he told me it would take 45 minutes to install half of what I needed and another technician could be here at 7:30 on Friday, 4/28/11 to complete the installation. Turns out he was here for an hour and a half, did not leave until 10 and I was late for work. Technician, Miguel, arrived at 7:30 on 4/29 and completed the job. I have not tolerance for not showing up on time in the age of cell phones. Miquel, who has been here before, was very professional and I will request him in the future.
