Existing toilet not secure because seal at the base of the toilet had rusted. CroppMetcalfe rep arrived on time, assessed existing siutation and advised on replacement toilet. The toilet needed to be ordered due to color needed but this took just one week. Once CroppMetcalfe received delivery on the toilet, they installed it within 2 days. The serviceman did excellent work and left the area extremely clean on leaving.
Description of Work: Replaced toilet in full bath.

Technician came and said it would cost another $300 to test for source of leak with insrumentation to provide estimate . Typical "Bait and Switch". Installed R-22 refrigerant (extra cost) to see if system operated properly and source of leak could be visually determned. The bottom line from technician was source of leak was not found and to just have complete system replaced. Was contacted by sales but they haven't provided a price for replacement unit. Don't waste your time and money with this company. Note: When talking with Sales Person he said upfront that their estimate would not be low because of their reputation and quality standards!
Description of Work: Requested second opinion for repair of apparent A/C system leak. Also wanted quote on new system.

This was my first time using C-M because they bought out my prior HVAC service company, Aand C Heating and Cooling. Overall, the work has been done and done well; the overall experience with the company has left me wanting more however. First off, every time I have called, from setting up the quote, to setting up each of the visits, to calling for general information, I have had to wait on hold an average of 10 minutes. Sometimes this is at the beginning of the call, sometimes in the middle. This was NEVER true with Aand C. I don't mind leaving a message and being called back but being on hold is the worst. One I finally got the quote setup, they came out and quoted it. I felt it was a little expensive but I didn't really have the time to shop around and I had been loyal to Aand C for almost 8 years so I figured I would give C-M a try. I scheduled the disconnection for a Thursday morning at 8am. At 8:30am, I called the office and was told that my appointment was for Friday. I asked them when; they said, "sometime between 8am and 10am". I told them that wouldn't work because I had a doctor's appointment and would be out of the house from about 8:15am until 10am. They seemed to be fine with that and I asked them to call me before they got there in case I was running late. When I got home at 9:30am, they were waiting for me, no call. They had already fully disconnected the unit however (but not moved it). They tried to charge me $20 more than the quote and asked for $35 more for the first payment without any justification. I pushed back and the price was corrected. After my other project was completed, I scheduled the replacement service call. This time they did show up pretty much on time (at 8:15am for an 8am appointment) but still did not call ahead as I requested. It took quite a while but they did get the job done and were very respectful on taking care on not walking in the house since our carpets were also being cleaned that morning. This time I was home to watch them however and could get a better judge on pricing. They had a two man crew but one of them was not working on the job (he even ran an errand at one point) for most of the 3.5 hours. In total, I think they spent about 6 man hours on the job...and I don't think they were working very hard during that 6 hours. At $830, that feels expensive to me. I know that I didn't pay $140/hour when Aand C was taking care of my units with regular maintenance and those were short visits. Overall the work was done and it was done well. They pretty much showed up when they were supposed to and although calling them was not the best, I was able to get a hold of them within a reasonable time period. They earned a solid B, they just weren't as good as the A rated company I had worked with before. If everything had gone smoothly and efficiently, I wouldn't even be hung-up on the price. I don't mind paying a little extra for top-notch work and communication.
Description of Work: This was a 2-visit service. On the first visit, we needed to have our AC unit disconnected then moved away from the house for another project. After that project was done, Cropp-Metcalfe returned and placed the AC unit close to where it had been and reconnected the AC unit.

The overall experience is rated negatively for two reasons. First, this company must have some sort incentive for its repairmen to sell parts to customers. We have seen this repeatedly during routine maintenance visits. The repairman initially tried to tell us that our thermostat needed to be replaced at a cost of over $500 and when we called him out on the price, noting that you could buy one for significantly less than that on the local market, the thermostat suddenly started working again after he "reset" it. The second reason for the negative review is the cost of the control panel. It was $557 and unfortunately we did not know any better at the time that you can buy this exact control panel on the local market for $82.99. That is a 640 percent mark up by the company on parts. We will never use this company again the future and intend to cancel our service plan.
Description of Work: We have a service plan with the company and called when our heat no longer worked. It would blow cold air when turned on and make a clicking sound. The repairman said a fuse had blown in the control panel and it had to be replaced. Separately, the repairman noticed that the A/C pan that had been installed by the company on the last visit had been incorrectly installed. He noted that if we had turned on the A/C we would have flooded the entire attic where the unit is located. He fixed the mistake at no charge as it was the fault of the company.

All systems that have been replaced were completed in 1 day with no problems.
Description of Work: I have used Cropp-Metcalfe for years. I have a 2 zone system and they've replaced the air handler in the attic and both air conditioning systems. I also have an annual maintenance agreement with them. I've never had a problem with them.

Used Angie's List coupon. Called on Thursday, they came out within 2 hours, determined problem, scheduled work to be done for next day. Arrived on time, fixed problem, supervisor arrived during process which was good on-the-job quality control. Fixed problem early and under the estimate I was given. Would highly recommend. I had a very good experience and will use again.

My wife called in a request for repairing the plumbing pipe noise hear in the wall, but added additional requests while servicing the source of the noise, a faulty Pressure Reduing Valve. (We had suspected a bad valve from an internet search but could not detect any vibration of the valve which we had been told was a sign of a failed valve.) Both he and the company called to confirm arrival. Company called half hour before, and he called ahead to tell he was on his way. He called company from our home to report arrival. He put on shoe covers before entry in the house. My wife called me at work to get confirmation on work estimate before beginning. He asked if we wanted a one year service plan with an immediate discount, but explained it was not obligatory. (I later arrivedhome from work and he continued working.) He disconnected water connection in basement, and at outdoor in ground water meter. He called company for parts to be delivered while continuing work. Second plumber who brought some parts assisted with one issue but then left. He explained to my wife part replacements and sounds and brief dirty water from re-opening water connection and showed me the the decayed parts and valve to water heater to assure me of leakage. He was professional, and a trustworthy, efficient worker. (I believe his name is Grant or Gant). I am not detailing the actual disassembly and parts installations, but he showed me and my wife as needed what he was doing. (My wife could not locate the light switch to the basement closet, and accidentally turned off our furnace when she could not locate thei light switch in the basement closet, so he used his own flashlight to continue working.) He tested all faucets, disposal, and even turned on the sump pump for me as a test. He received additional requests we asked to pay for while at our home which we asked him to repair, and he did so without hesitation. I highly recommend this plumber and his company.
Description of Work: Plumbing services. Longstanding noise caused by faulty 12 year old Pressure Reducing Valve, which was replaced. Noise is gone! Replace leaking main valve. Replaced 12 year old shut off valve with new shutoff valve. Replace faulty kitchen sink faucet and garbage displosal. Replace toilet flapper in toilet. Replaced fill valve. Tested sump pump ok.

I disliked the technicians passing out their own private business cards for their own business. Especially when they are not licensed or bonded. We will continue to use them again in the future.

They are very professional. I think that they actually know what they are doing. Their quality of work is excellent. They give you a time like if they say that they will show up around 12 to 5 and they are usually here by 4.
Description of Work: I just started using Crop Metcalf recently for my heating and air-conditioning from six months since I have moved. They actually had come out three times this month as they had to order parts and the last part came in today. So they came in and finished the air-conditioning. They also have replaced all of the piping in the heating because the original owner screwed it up.

I selected CroppMetcalfe based upon the reviews I read here on Angie's List. Prior to contacting CroppMetcalfe, another company tried to get me to purchase a new water heater even though it was 5 1/2 years old. When I contacted CroppMetcalfe, I was transferred to the Supervisor and discussed the issues I was having and whether I needed a new water heater. He had said "no". I made the usual appointment of 12-5pm, however I received a call at 12pm for an appointment within the 1/2 hour. The service guy was very punctual and quickly fixed all of my problems with the water heater. I was very pleased with the service and glad to not be pressured into purchasing anything I didn't need. I would glad have CroppMetcalfe do any future work for me.
Description of Work: My pressure value on my water heater was leaking as well as a couple of the overhead pipes. The exhaust duct had become unglued and I had issues with my water heating properly.

They do a good job, and I will continue to use them in the future. The price is fair and the quality is very good.
Description of Work: I have a contract with him and they come out and spray and make sure that we don't have termites. They also spray out in the yard so that we don't have snakes. After they do it, they come every season and they make sure that there are no bugs or spiders around our home.

Technical advised I needed to totally replace my heating system. They sent out a sales associate who quoted me $7900 to replace both heating and A/C. I opted to wait and the unit worked fine until Dec 2011. At that time I opted to join Angie's List. I got another provider out who repaired my unit for $130 total. It will soon be 3 years since Cropp Metcalfe told me to replace my unit . I will not be using their srevices

Although our experience with Cropp started out positively, shoddy installation plus 3 additional installation issues (and counting) make me wonder why all of their "experience" doesn't lead to better quality. I got several estimates to replace my gas furnace, and although Cropp was a bit higher, we were impressed by the initial service tech's knowledge base and his thoroughness in investigating our problem (compared to other companies, who were scattered or unprofessional). We went ahead and had them install a whole new unit, and thats where the problems began. They came and installed the unit before Thanksgiving (showing up very late in the day--11am, rather than earlier when they estimated). They didn't finish the installation that day (since they started so late), and randomly showed up the day after thanksgiving without calling in advance--so we were not home. They returned again almost a week later to finally finish the installation--and we found a water leak from the pipes only a day later. They came back and fixed that--but then had to come again to fix another. Then, we noticed an incredibly loud noise from the pipes that made it impossible to sleep. When we called them out to investigate, apparently they hadn't installed the pipes at the right angle--so they had to rip them out and start over. Where was that expertise again? Now, a month later, we have a large water stain on our ceiling--the pipes are leaking again. We called "emergency services" and they sent out a tech to look at it--but not fix it. They're going to have to come out AGAIN to actually do the repair work--and now we have water damage to my ceiling that I HOPE I'm not going to have to cover the cost of (that question is still pending). Essentially, I installed a brand new unit, and I now have had 3 leaks and an improperly installed pipes. From a company with so many "superior service" awards, I would have expected better--considering we went with a full replacement rather than a cheap fix.

Obviously, it didn't go well because I had to hire another company to come out to fix the problem. I couldn't count on the company that we'd had a contract with for many years to show up. That is unacceptable and, again, not reflective of the five star service they flaunt.
Description of Work: The company has been very unresponsive to service contract commitments. During the summer, they didn't show up for scheduled maintenance appointments. We had to contact the customer service to complain and were told that the technicians had been busy answering service calls. During the Fall checkup (date cited) the technician was here for a very short time and most of it was spent on replacing a filter in the humidifier that we had to pay an additonal $40 for. We have used this company for many years, but we are dropping them. I contacted them today (1/17/2012) because the fan in the furnace had stopped working. I contacted the company and was told that they couldn't come until after noon tomorrow. This is ridiculous since we have been paying for the premiere contract. I subsequently called another company and they responded in a half an hour. Needless to say, we will be signing on with them. I don't think this company deserves a five star rating at all. I wouldn't recommend that anyone use them. Their maintenance contract prices shot through the roof for this year!

Did not go well. See the description of my experience outlined above. Would not recommend using Cropp Metcalfe. They refuse to escalate the issue we had to upper management and would not admit or stand behind their mistakes.
Description of Work: The $15,000 was spent on 2 brand new top of the line Carrier Infinity units we bought from Cropp Metcalfe and had serviced over the past 4 years exclusively by Cropp Metcalfe. One unit that was a heat pump unit and installed to heat/cool the 2nd story of our home never was 100%. Lost freon in the first 2 years (not ever suppose to lose freon in a Carrier Infinity system because it's a closed system we later learned from Carrier). Finally lost heat over the holidays on the unit and the Cropp Metcalfe person told us that our service contract had expired after our summer service (approx 7/1). They had called our house number to try and renew the service contract and left several messages however like everyone else, we do not use our house tel number and rely mainly on our cell numbers. Therefore we did not find out until we called for service that our service contract was up. Therefore, even though our defective unit was covered by Carrier under warranty, Cropp Metcalfe was taking no responsibility for the condensor going bad (likely gone bad because of a loss of freon according to Carrier) and wanted an additional $1500 to fix the warrantied unit. I have never been satisfied with the explanations for the poor performance of the system or impressed by the technicians Cropp Metcalfe sent to service us. My advice is shop around before you spend big bucks with Cropp Metcalfe. They do not stand behind their long standing customers.

The sales representative came the next day and he looked at our furnace. We wanted a whole house humidifier to be installed along with the new furnace because our home is so dry in the winter. The representative told us we would have to install a new in-line humidifier over the furnace and there wasn't enough room to do so unless we purchased a new, smaller A/C coil. He did tell us we didn't need a new coil yet, but he said our only option if we wanted a whole house humidifier was to purchase a new coil. He also told us the hot water heater would need to be removed in order to remove the old furnace and install the new one. He said he couldn't guarantee that the water heater wouldn't leak after being moved and he recommended purchasing a new water heater. The next day we had an appointment with a sales representative from John Nugent and Sons. The person from John Nugent told us we could install a bypass whole house humidifier, and there was no need for a new A/C coil. He also said the water heater did indeed need to be moved, but that certainly didn't mean we needed a new water heater. He gave us an estimate for the job which was over a thousand dollars lower than that of Croppe Metcalfe and we went with John Nugent and Sons.
Description of Work: We had a service agreement with Croppe Metcalfe for our heating and A/C system. When the technician came this October, he told us that our 22 year old furnace needed to be replaced and it was not safe to turn it on. We made an appointment for a sales representative to come the next day to go over our options.
