These guys are real professionals, the best of the best.  Though I knew, all along, they were most capable of performing the design/build for the plantings, terraces and retaining walls, I was a little reticent, initially, of having them do the pool and spa (as opposed to having an outside pool company do that part of the work), but it turned out great and was really easy having them as sole source for the entire exterior of the project. JR is an outstanding Landscape Architect and no one knows stone better than Joe Colao. They actually helped me source some of the interior marble as well....

Before we contacted Mike Moser at Calao Stone, we had reached out to multiple masons and landscape architects and had been unsatisfied with their exorbitant estimates and long projected lead times.  Everything changed when we met Mike, however; he was extremely prompt, professional, and responsive, and provided a very reasonable estimate and timeframe for our renovation project.  

The estimate from Calao was so much better than their competitors that we also decided to place flagstone on our back patio -- and all for the same estimate as some masons proposed to simply replace our stairs and walkway.  Calao also recommended that we choose our stone from a local quarry in Maryland that carried an enormous amount of beautiful stone; my wife was very pleased with the price and selection.

Making matters even easier, Mike offered to begin the work while we were away from town over the Christmas holidays.  While this took a leap of faith, Mike's professionalism and daily email updates during our absence made the process very smooth.  Calao's crews completely transformed our relatively-small rowhome entrance and back patio; the crew even broke the stone by hand for our new front yard planter. The excellent quality of the masonry is apparent at first sight.

In short, if you're looking for professional, timely, reasonable stonework in the Washington, D.C., area, choose Calao Stone.  Mike Moser was a pleasure to work with and we recommend him and Calao without reservation.
