The original install date had to be moved due to the manufacturer sending a full hardwood floor instead of a floating floor. Clawe's was more than apologetic and even offered to drive to Pennsylvania to the manufacturer that day to go pick up the correct floor. Ended up, the manufacturer had to order the floor anyway but it was great to hear how accommodating they were trying to be. I moved into the space before the floor could be done so I had all of my heavy bedroom furniture in the room during the process. I was afraid that they wouldn't be able to do it but they did a great job!

./As you can judge from my previous comments, I was very pleased with the work performed. The workers arrived on time, were very professional, worked continuously, and most important, were very skilled at their craft. In additional, they were most scrupulous in cleaning the area (including the space where they had custom cut and stained the various pieces of wood). Needless to say, I was very pleased with the overall job and would recommend Clawes Carpets, Inc. to anyone in need of this type of service performed. My experience with this company was excellent and started with my dealings with Tim in the Vienna store. He was very helpful and demonstrated a great deal of expertise in answering all my questions and showing me samples as well as advising me as to which type of flooring might best meet my needs, as I had explained them to him. He also allowed me to borrow numerous samples so that I could view them in my kitchen. I was also impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the company's estimator, Mike. He came to my home at the promised time and gave me a free estimate which was also, in my case, the final price I paid (that may be difficult to do every time). But what I was most impressed with was that Mike took the time to give me an approximate cost on replacing my carpets with a specific hard wood. He had no advance notice that I would also request him to do these measurements and took the time to do it even after being told that this was something I may or may not do in the immediate future.

Was going to go with another company after salesman would not split order to give us a modest discount. Manager called and closed deal (smart guy since we had moved on). Final price was best of five proposals. Hardwood job looks great except for lack of proper overhang at stairs. We determined this could not be fixed and decided to live with the work (a small issue but a high exposure area). Carpeting job was done by a contractor who had a crew chief who spent a lot of time on the phone managing other installations. At one point we found him standing on the wooden railing while doing work even though we had ladders on-site. Overall we were pleased with the work, but there was a lot of clean-up left to us and some areas did not have the level of finish we expected. Main problem was the stairs. The carpet material (per the installer) was "too stiff" and although he spent many hours trying to get the work done right (in between the phone calls), it did not look as good as the previous stairs work. We fix some things ourselves and decided to live with the rest. Overall a good deal for the price paid.

This is the third time I have done business with Clawes Carpet, and I'm sure the next time I have flooring needs I will use them again. I have been extremely pleased with each job performed from start to finish. Roy Clawes was a very knowledgeable salesman, who answered all my questions. He made me feel confident that I was getting a great product at a great price. Installation was on time and went smoothly. The results were great - the job looks amazing, and we feel like our house is new again. I have recommended Clawes to many of my family members and friends, and they have all been very happy with the service and price. Clawes Carpets is a very friendly family business that truly delivers. These days it is nice to shop at store that can provide a higher level of customer service and quality of product that your looking for that actually beats the prices of the much larger home improvement stores! Written by husband of Angie's list member: My wife obtained a quote from Clawes after they performed a survey. They did seem knowledgeable. We did have some date constraints and so I called to discuss the quote and date constraints. The job was a large ($20k +) combination tile and carpet job, so I had a few simple questions on the quote: A. I asked if the final price had any flexibility, given the size; the Clawes employee (after discussion with management) agreed to lower it by about 1.5%. B. Clawes wanted a 50% deposit, and I stated I was more comfortable with 1/3 (any contractor site will tell you 50% deposit is excessive). The employee agreed, after discussing with management. C. To ensure Clawes finished on the dates agreed (they had a circa one week window about 3 weeks in the future to do the work), I asked if we could include a stipulation for price reductions if the job was not done on time. Again, the Clawes employee agreed after discussion with management. The Clawes employee said they would write it up per above and send to us to sign. However, a half-hour later the a manager and then the owner called me and said they changed their mind and did not want to include provisions for a penalty for being late. The owner said he had little confidence they could ever agree to timelines due to possible unforeseen issues with supplies, etc., and thus refused to be contractually obligated to any deadline. I found this very unprofessional given that the company had already verbally agreed to A, B, C. Above. My wife spoke to the owner again the next day, and asked if we provided them several additional days to do the work, and dropped the penalty claus, if that would seal the deal. However, he claimed I "had changed all the terms, price, deposit, etc. and wanted a deadline" and he thus did not want to work with us; he said that their quotes were what they were, they didn't ever negotiate quotes or deposit percentages. (Since when are bids non-negotiable?) This despite the fact that a Clawes employee had already verbally agreed to A, B, C above before they were the ones who backed out. Very unprofessional.

They had me go out to their place and then they came out here. It took a little longer but they came out and they were really nice. I felt taken care of. They haven?t done the work yet but I had a better understanding of what I was choosing. Clawes had an advantage because I had already talked to another company so I knew what I was getting. When I talked to Clawes about cat urine and things like that, they had things they could do for that. I also had part of the subfloor that was broken and they said they had ways to fix that. After I got a quote from Clawes, they came down a few hundred. I think the other company we interviewed would have come down as well but I just felt more comfortable with Clawes. They just seemed to know exactly what they wanted to do. The only thing that I didn?t like was that I thought they were going to call me with a quote and I had to call them. I had to wait a few days to get the guy out to measure but they did come out and they were on time. He explained everything to me and he got the quote together. The people there were just more sales oriented and they could sell me on it. They brought the wood in yesterday; it only took a couple weeks to get it. They are going to install it tomorrow and the next day. UPDATE 9/7/2012 Their price was comparable with other places. The guys were super nice. They were right on time. They did a great job cleaning up. It didn't take that long. It took them three days. It looks really beautiful. It's nice and shiny. I didn't have hardwood up there nad it just look so nice now. Everything is perfect, it all has the little edges on it. I had a place in the subfloor that was broken and they were able to fix that. They took up all the carpet, they were really good about moving furniture and they didn't break anything. Everything went really well, and it's really pretty now. I would definitely use them again.

Top-notch job. They were helpful and responsive during the estimate, expedited a vendor quote to meet our time constraint, and did a great job on the installation -- including moving some very heavy items of furniture that were certainly above and beyond the call of duty.

Excellent! We had a couple of concerns initially. The owner, Roy Clawes, promptly returned our call himself, even though he was out of the office, and was very kind and gracious. He really went out of his way to ensure his company did the best they could for us, and that we were happy - before, during and after the job! In this day and age where stores like Home Depot and Lowes are rolling over the local business, a company like Clawes and an owner like Roy are a breath of fresh air. You would not be making a bad choice by going with this company, and in fact, you would be doing the right thing in many ways. Thanks Roy, and best wishes for your company's continued success. With such care of your business and such concern for the customer, you could and should only be successful.

We looked at samples at Clawes' showroom on Braddock Road and received truly excellent service, with patient explanation of the different types of wood, the different installation options, etc. It's a lot more complicated the last time we installed hardwood 20+ years ago, with more options in terms of pre-engineered and pre-finished hardwood. When they came out to do the estimate, we got the same kind of expert explanation. We had planned to do only the hardwood, but asked for a carpeting estimate just to see where it came out. The overall price was a little higher than we had hoped to pay, but Clawes worked with us on the price to get a really good number for both hardwood and carpeting, so we had them do both. Their crews arrived exactly at the appointed times and were extremely professional. The final result was flawless for both carpeting and hardwood. The Brazilian Cherry in the MBR has received raves from us and our friends. It totally transforms the upstairs. The carpeting is very soft underfoot and seamlessly installed. Clawes is a family-owned business and it shows in the personalized attention and the patient responsiveness to our many questions. I would highly recommend Clawes to anyone.

My basement flooded and I needed to replace the flooring. Decided to replace with hardwoods in basement room and up stairs and in bedroom. Sales associate was very knowledgeable about type of engineered lock and fold flooring that would work on concrete in basement. Roy Clawes came out to measure and also gave great advice about color choices and products that would be best value without sacrificing quality. Work was scheduled for about two weeks after making selection and putting down payment on job. Work was completed in two days and workmen were very professional, careful with my belongings, and did sawing outside to cut down on dust. I was very pleased with the quality of the work and with the finished product. My floors are beautiful. I would definitely hire Clawes again.

Clawe's promptly scheduled the estimate and the gentleman came out to measure on time. We got the estimate and were quite surprised at the cost -- it was nearly double the numbers quote by the salesman. The salesman called back a few days later to tell us that the estimate was off, but it was still surprisingly high. We asked him to send us the written estimate and have not yet received it. We ultimately decided to hire a prominent hardwood flooring company for installation of solid oak floors and some refinishing work -- their price was over $1000 lower than the quote for vinyl tile installation. I like giving small/local business my support, but Clawe's was just too expensive.

After buying a new house that had wood flooring on the second level and carpet on the third (where the bedrooms are) I realized that I wanted wood throughout the house. Clawes Carpet was not only able to perfectly match the new wood flooring, which had been a problem since the old flooring is now discontinued, but they also got installers out to my house in only a week. The installers were very professional and did a beautiful job, and they were able to do it all in a single day! I cannot commit on the quality of work other places provide, but I can say that Clawes Carpet gives top notch service for a price that is very competitive with all the other estimates I received. I will definitely use them again. In short: amazing work done quickly for a very reasonable price.

Jeff helped my wife and I pick out a runner for our staircase. He had great suggestions that made finding the perfect runner very easy. After we picked out the style we liked, they sent a person out to measure the stairs. About a week later they were out to install. The installers were very professional and cleaned up before they left. Overall, Clawes provided a great experience, and I would hire them again in the future!

The installation went well. Tim Gauck examined the house to make an estimate. Clawes expert workmen did a fine job of replacing the old unattractive old oak flooring with pre-finished Bruce flooring.The new flooring should last for decades.

Teresa spent a lot of time with us to find the right color and type of carpet to fit our decor and needs. She was very helpful and knowledgable. The installation was professional and timely. We love the results and subsequently ordered a custom area rug.

First, Roy and his team were a pleasure to work with from the start. From the estimate all the way through install, everything they said they'd do happened as promised and on time. Clawes' service never wavered as they answered my many questions and worked w/ me through the process of selecting the right materials. As I mentioned above, I have an older home that presented some installation challenges, w/ one in particular bringing pricey estimates from a few other contractors. Rather than presenting an expensive recommendation, Roy proposed a simple solution that worked perfectly w/ my budget, & it came out looking terrific. I strongly recommend hiring Clawes!

This review is long overdo, sorry Roy. I went to the Braddock Rd Clawes Carpet location to discuss carpet options. It was about an hour before closing and it looked like Roy Clawes was about to leave, but he stayed to help me even though there was another employee in the store to assist. I scheduled an estimate and found Roy to be very responsive, punctual, and helpful. His prices were very reasonable and his willingness to help was incredible. I brought several samples home and selected the carpet for both my large basement and area rug. Since the carpet installation was just one portion of my basement remodeling project, Roy requested that the mill expedite the carpet production so the remainder of my basement project could be completed on time. Roy kept in contact while waiting for the carpet to be produced and as soon as it was ready, he scheduled the installation. On installation day, Roy's installation team was excellent. They laid all the carpet and even helped me by finding the best way to lay my speaker cords under the carpet without being obviously noticeable. The installation went very well and they answered all my questions throughout the process. The area rug took longer to produce and arrive since it was a smaller order from a large company/mill. As soon as the area rug arrived, Roy had two of his staff members deliver and lay the area rug in the room as desired. I can't sya enough great things about Clawes Carpet and Roy. They are a family owned business that serve the community well. Great company, great people!

Everyone at Clawes, from the people I talked to in the store, to Roy, who did the measuring, to the people who did the actual installation, was extremely professional. They allowed me to take home carpet samples to decide which would work best in our house. Everyone was prompt and courteous. The job was completed in the time they indicated it would be. The carpet looks great, and they also worked with us to make sure the furniture went back exactly where we wanted it. I would highly recommend Clawes to anyone.

As a first time user of Angie's List, I used the site to find a good flooring company. And thanks to Angie's List, I found a great company - Clawes Carpets Inc. They were everything that all the reviews said they were. Everyone I dealt with was courteous, professional and answered any questions I had. My small lopen-conceptiving room and dinning room have many angles, so I had no clue on how to design the floor. I had Eser decide how to design the floor and he did a fabulous job. I could not be happier on how it turned out. He and his partner worked so hard and they were so considerate towards me. They made me feel so comfortable that I was able to doing some errands while they were working. Everyone who sees my floor are so impressed. I am very happy with my floor and am happy that I used Angie's List to find Clawes. I have recommended them to a lot of people and will keep on recommending them.All I can say, is thank you Clawes family for everything you have done. You are FABULOUS!

Clawes is a very professional outfit as we have used many contractors for various upgrades to our home. We originally received an estimate from Roy a while back but due to our busy life schedule we had to wait a month or two later before immersing ourself into this project. We did seek several quotes and though they were not the cheapest for this particular type of flooring, we felt more confident with their reputation, warranty and ability and it worked out perfectly. We looked at some samples at their Vienna store and chose a different brazillian wood than the one suggested by them due to the color and grain pattern that we liked. 50% deposit was given and they called us to schedule a time for install. Afterwards, another man called us for the wood delivery which was delivered to our living room with a hitch and lastly the crew came out several days later on a Saturday morning around 8:30 for the install. They set up the cutting machines outside to avoid the dust in the house and the compressors and guns were brought into the bedroom. Thee men worked all day (4th followed) and they moved all the furnishings as well. They were even kind enough to move one of my TV's to the basement and relocate the heavy elliptical machine to the sitting room. These men were highly efficient, worked as a team, friendly and knew exactly what they were doing. I was seriously beyond impressed with their craftsmanship; one of the best installers I have ever encountered. One installer even sanded all the baseboard trims on the driveway and re-stained them. The outcome was fabulous, we absolutely love the floor and will do all the kids room next along with some tiling. There are a few things that can be improved by the installers and it goes as follows which I have conveyed to the store. 1. Perhaps lay something on the stairs so not to damage and dirty the runners from their shoes and going in and out in all day. I had to vacuum the entire flight of stairs in detail. 2. Quickly vacuum all the debris after carpet was taken out. Years of dust, allergens and debris accumulates on the edges of walls. I was vacuuming some of the debris.3. Realize that pounding of the floor so hard with their mallots broke two recessed light bulbs below which came off their holders and a trim ring in the den. I showed it to one of the installers but no acknowledgement or response. Now I'll have to find a matching trim ring.4. Utility Blade was left on the front lawn next to driveway, thank God no one stepped on it with barefoot.

They did a great job, they were on time, they did what they were supposed to do and they didn't leave a mess. They were very quick to respond. We went to the store and looked around then I emailed them and they called me the same day. They also were very attentive and offered to come back if we had any problems without any extra charges.

Clawes Carpet recently completed a terrific job for us--taking up our old carpeting and refinishing our hardwood floors. First Roy came to our house and measured all the rooms, describing exactly how the job would be done. He is an ideal person to work with because he knows his business so well and is very accommodating. We had gotten an estimate from another company, but once we talked to Roy, we knew we wanted him to do the job. Prior to starting the work, they moved all our furniture out of the rooms to be worked on. Not many companies provide this service, which was very important to us. After removing the old carpeting, one of the workers sanded a section and applied a sample of three different finishes. We chose one, and they took it from there, sanding and staining the floors in our living room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 5 closets, a porch, hallway, and our stairs. They also took up two layers of old tile in the foyer and installed new flooring. The workers were very punctual and very professional, and we are extremely pleased with the finished product. A couple of weeks later, we had Roy come back to talk to us about replacing carpeting in our family room. As always, he made helpful suggestions, and within a few days that job was done, also to our complete satisfaction. We are happy to recommend Clawes Carpet to one and all.

It went GREAT! First of all, we contacted 4 highly rated flooring firms listed on Angie's list. Each one was professional yet Clawes IMHO went above and beyond. First of all Roy Clawes is a very nice man who does his best to provide expert advice to ensure that he understands what is desired. Once we figured out the color tone we scheduled the project as we were refinishing all the wood floors on the first floor. This meant we had to leave our home for a week. When we returned we were wondering how the job went and how much dust would be in our house as we were sanding all the floors. We had heard about dustless sanding yet Roy said the man who would do our floors was a real craftsman and should be minimal. We walked in our house and were very, very pleased with the work. Pleased is probably too light of a word - maybe delighted is better.

Their work was well done and finished in a day. They were a little slow in getting back to me regarding the quote and scheduling the installation, as I had to call a few times. Still, they completed the work shortly after the estimate and everything looks gorgeous!
