The gentleman who did the installation (I believe his name was James) was excellent. He was very detailed and took the time necessary to ensure everything lined up properly and allowed for enough time drying time between seams. He also made a rug for us out of some of a carpet remnant for the entrance way to the staircase at no additional expense to us. We were left with another fairly large remnant once the project was finished, so we called about having that remnant serged to have a second rug, and they offered a reasonable charge to do that. When we dropped the remnant off, however, they told us they would do it for no additional charge, which was very nice. They were running quite a backlog, and maybe that was why. It took another 2+ months for the rug to be ready, but we knew there would be some delay and weren't being charged, so that was alright. All in all, we are very happy with the results.
I have no complaints on the work. It was expensive but they did a great job. My only concern was that they took down the plastic curtain after the first coat of polyurethane was put down and before that coat was dry. With the curtain down, the tenant's dog ran up the stairs to the bedrooms, leaving a trail of prints. Mr. Clawes said the installer would remove the dog's prints. The dog prints are still there. Apparently the installer told Mr. Clawes that he had removed the dog prints and that the dog must have run up there a second time. That did not happen. The dog prints are covered with new, smooth layers of polyurethane, so apparently they were not buffed out sufficiently before the new layers went on. Nonetheless, I plan to ask Clawes to refinish the first-level floor before I sell the house and I am hoping the prints can be taken care of then.
The tenants claimed that the installer did not show up until late in the mornings, forcing them to stay home from work longer than they had expected, so I gave Clawes a "B" for punctuality.
When the dog prints are removed, I will change the grade on "responsiveness" to "A."
As with all such large jobs, there are always little things that need attention after the fact and Clawes was very good at taking care of them. We made a short list, all fairly minor items, and they went through and addressed each one to our satisfaction.
This is a family owned business and they have been around for more than 37 years, so we saw several second and third generation family members who work out of the store. So, you get to support a local small business that takes great pride in the work they do. I would recommend Clawes, and have already, to anyone looking to do indoor flooring work, carpets or wood flooring. We have two more bathrooms, for which we need to do something else first, but we will have Clawes back to do them. About a year or two ago, we used another business to put in linoleum in the kitchen and carpeting in the other small bedroom. The carpeting is fine, but we've never been happy with the kitchen linoleum, even after they came back and reworked it. The glue just won't stop it from coming up, giving it that sticky sound in several places. Wished we had thought to use Clawes as they would have used a better material and would have been less expensive, as well.
Bottom line, use these guys. You won't be disappointed.
