Took 10 weeks as opposed to 6 to 8 weeks for doors to arrive. Once doors finally arrived they were no way going to fit measurements Acme took 8 weeks ago. Have not heard back from them in 2 weeks.

Acme Stove of Fairfax installed my Mendota fireplace insert in 2015. It's worked beautifully sever since. Yesterday, the display on the remote control went blank after it was dropped on the floor. I tried realigning the batteries but still no display. Tony White at Acme Stove told me to bring the remote in so he could look at it and if necessary match it with a replacement. At the store, Tony tried fresh batteries but still no display. He, however, noticed issues with the springs and contacts for the batteries. In a few minutes, he realigned the contacts and voila the problem was solved. The remote was back in operation. No charge for service. Tony's persistence and attention to detail saved me $180. Thanks, Tony. It's a pleasure doing business with Acme Stove.

The technicians were both very knowledgeable and polite. I didn't mind it taking two visits to solve the problem because they were taking a very conservative approach as oposed to just replacing a major component of the fireplace.

Came here looking for a very specific stove from Vermont Castings and they were listed as a vendor. After waiting five minutes for someone to speak with us, we were introduced to Tony who we told we were looking for a small wood burning stove to heat an all season porch. He immediately says you can't use a stove on a porch because the humidity, but when I told him what model we were considering from Vermont Castings he changed his tune and said that's the only one that would work. That said, he didn't have a floor model to show us ("I just sold that in February) and didn't have a price list to quote us, so he took our information to get back to us. Two business days later, I get a phone message around 3:45pm from Tony saying that it would be $4,300 installed despite me telling him that our builder was going to install it. I called back around ten minutes later to find out he left for the day, so I left a message saying we needed to know the price just for the stove. Tony called me back the next day around 1030am and said it would be $3,600 in the "Bordeaux" (one of the two colors it comes in) including shipping. I asked how much for the "Classic Black" as we indicated we could be interested in either. "I don't know, I didn't price that out" Tony replied "Probably a couple of hundred dollars less." So I asked if "couple" meant $200, $500 or $700 to which he says "Couple means $200.) So then I ask how much if we picked it up rather than having it shipped and he says that was the cost of having it shipped to them. Something told me that was a lot more than it should have been and told him as such, saying we'd have to get back to him. Sure enough, I googled the stove model and price and found a 2014 suggested retail price list saying it should be $1,039 for the black, $1,419 for the Bordeaux. Then I emailed to other retailers, one of which got back to me in 19 minutes (not two days, plus another half day to actually talk to them) with a price of "$1065 plus tax and $125 S/H to our store". Tony either didn't quote us for the right model or was trying to triple the price of the stove despite assuring us "We always sell below retail price..."
Description of Work: Quoted us the price for a wood burning stove.

We asked them to come early in the year because we wanted to be prepared for winter. A month later the pilot went out. The person that came out said that he had to clean what Acme was supposed to clean. I was able to get it lit but the fire will not come up. We called them 2 times and they won?t call back after they said they would squeeze us in and they never did or called.

My Wife and I had a good time picking out the new wood stove. We saw Tony White he was extremely knowledgeable about all things stove. He gave us a great deal on a show room model helped us get a great installer from NICTO Chimney and we can't wait to use it even though we are in no rush for cold weather. We need some chimney work so we decided now was a good time to do the stove as well even with it being the beginning of summer. So we will be ready for winter this year. I also like the fact that should we lose power we will still have a way to heat our home and even have a cook top. If you want a wood stove in the Northern Virginia area Tony is definitely the guy to see.

Acme eventually installed the fireplace after some unfulfilled promises and a cancellation. We're enjoying the fireplace so far. The scheduling process was extremely frustrating. I would have given Acme a higher grade if they were responsive to my calls and emails, but they weren't.
Description of Work: I placed an order and paid for a gas insert in early November. Despite numerous calls to Acme, Acme has only returned my calls one time. They still haven't been able to schedule an installation. I dealt with the Rockville, MD store; not the Fairfax store. It has been a frustrating and disappointing experience.

We showed Tony White a picture of our current equipment and explained what we are thinking of. He noted that our current gas log is very high quality and would likely give us many more years of service. On the principle of and quot;if it isn't broken, don't fix itand quot; he recommended against buying new equipment. Such honesty and directness is refreshing. About two years ago I bought a high-end gas grill from Acme. The advice and service were just as good then. We talked about what I needed, they suggested alternatives to what I was thinking about initially, and I ended up paying less than I expected for a grill that was much higher quality than what I was considering elsewhere. They delivered and set it up on time, and threw in a couple of additional items at no cost. I would definitely buy from them again.

On March 6, 2014 I purchased a Mendota D-40 Deep Timber Gas Fireplace Insert from Tony White at Acme Stove in Fairfax. Mendota is a highly regarded more upscale brand in the gas fireplace insert offerings. They have a beautiful line of and quot;full viewand quot; models, but we chose to go with the older model D-40 with the Bentley doors because it is simpler with more established technology. Rather than sell us a more expensive model, Tony explained the advantages of going with the D-40 and was adamant about simplicity, reliability, efficiency, and cost. He and this store have seen what works and what doesn't over many years. Before going to Acme, I had spent a good amount of time researching types, brands, and dealers. In particular, I knew that I wanted a gas fireplace insert as a backup heat source and that I did not want a ventless gas fireplace insert model. Tony was very informative, helpful, and cost competitive in his pricing. Delivery was less than one week and Acme's coordination with their installers was excellent.

Several years ago I purchased a fireplace door from Acme. The door was recommended to me by Acme as good quality and the installation went well. Being pleased with that purchase, I purchased and had installed a fireplace gas log set today. The installation was professional and I am pleased with the purchase. I believe that Acme sells high quality products, gives good advice, and provides excellent installation service. The prices are reasonable for the quality products. The log set was a Peterson vent free for $1,200 and installation was $1,100.

I visited Acme Stove while shopping for a zero clearance wood fireplace and have never been so insulted by a sales person in my life. I had done my research on line prior to visiting Acme, but was repeatedly belittled for asking about a wood stove replacement for our zero clearance fireplace and eventually walked out after having been accused of being too dense to comprehend that what I wanted was not possible. Since then, I have located two companies willing to do the work and have purchased a stove from one of them. I am surprised a company as disrespectful as Acme exists in today's market, and would strongly advise Caveat Emptor before setting foot in their store.

I visited their showroom to see some wood burning inserts. They were courteous and showed me a few models. Following the visit my wife and I decided on the insert we wanted, I called and emailed 5 times and never received a response. Amazing really, I'm guessing they just have too much business to handle someone ready to spend a few thousand dollars. Don't waste your time with them unless you like being frustrated.

Gas log purchase was ok -their price was competitive. I also purchased a fireplace screen but I got home I realized that it would not fit and called them to tell them I had planned to return it and to see if I had to special order something. The VA store manager explained, in no uncertain terms, that they did not take returns on screens and quot;due to damage during transitand quot; and they wanted to sell only brand new stuff. I assured him it had not be damaged, I could understand they don't want to sell used stuff, and why didn't I bring it by and they could inspect for themselves. He then said and quot;I just don't want to get into a debate about it with customers and we don't accept returns on screens.and quot; I called the owner up in MD and left a message to call me back. I got a call from another person who asked if I had been told about no return policy and I assured her I had not. She said they would be glad to take back the screen and refund my card. So I brought it back, the same guy from the phone inspected it and wrote up my refund but you certainly knew he wasn't happy with me. Based on price, I might go back but doubtful.
Description of Work: Purchased gas log set and also fire place free standing screen to go in front of screen. I wanted a refund on the screen since it didn't fit my fireplace.

During our recent renovation we decided to put in a gas insert to replace our existing wood burning fireplace. The salespeople at Acme Stove, in particular, Tony White, were extremely helpful. Their showroom was well stocked and all of their floor samples were operational so you could see how the gas fireplaces would actually look in your home. Tony helped by determining the correct size insert that would fit and by offering advice about the pros and cons of each manufacturer. Our remodeling contractor purchased the insert and was slow in picking up the unit. Tony held the product in his storeroom for several weeks so that we would have our product when it was time for installation. When the contractor was unable to install the insert, one call to Tony was all it took to get an installation date by a professional gas fireplace installation company. Tony kept in touch with us to make sure that all was going as planned and to make sure that we were happy with the insert. I called him several times with questions about the insert and he was more than willing to spend time chatting with us. We never felt rushed during any part of the buying or installation process. The sales crew was extremely knowledgeable and courteous and I would highly recommend Acme Stove to anyone in the market for fireplace logs, inserts or accessories.
Description of Work: Acme Stove helped me select the proper gas fireplace insert for our existing fireplace and procured the installation company for us.

The installer removed the damper flap but did not insulate at all, so wind was literally blowing into our basement causing it to by 55 degrees. The installer came back and spent five minutes throwing in standard household insulation rather than fire rated fireplace insulation. After no help from him, I had to purchase my own insulating and it still gets quite cold -- say 65 degrees in that room. He did not connect the electronics at all and they sent back a second group to fix it. The fireplace insert randomly beeps and the company cannot explain why and refuse to troubleshoot. The acme rep was really indignant and rude. Will never go back to them.

Considering that I contacting them in the heat of the season, they were the best that I contacted in the area and did the best they could to fit me in. And overall they got the job done like pros. Above and beyond my expectations.
Description of Work: Incredibly happy.....but I didn't think I would be. I hit them with a request dead center of their busiest period of the year. I felt they were swamped and not willing to chew the fat and talk inserts all day long. Which is expected and reasonable. So I investigated on my own which is the best of the best unit (gas insert) for me. I made a selection on a model and a certain look within the brand. Apparently I'm not good at selecting an appropriate look. And I am willing to bet few people can hit the mark dead on. What I received was the most fantastic unit I could ever imagine. Not the most popular look I chose from catalog, but the most shockingly appropriate combination they had put together for me. I did not want to go to the show room because of bad knee. So what happen was when the installer came over to do preliminary measurements and observe gas access ect, he became like an interior decorator in my book with the magic touch. I was not happy at first but then but realized that these fellows are BRILLIANT. So I was more than pleased with the outcome and would recommend them to my friends and have. Im thinking now of buying another one for the basement. I wonder if the shed is big enough justify for a unit. hahahaha Merry Christmase

went into the store in November, 2012. The two salesmen there were both in a sour mood and did not make much of an effort to be friendly. They seem to not like their job. I was able to price out the stove I'm interested in: they're high. For instance, the fee to install a wood stove, including a 25 foot chimney liner, runs about $1700. Look elsewhere; these guys don't like what they do. They really need to work on customer relations. After you buy a stove from them, you have to deal with another party to get the stove installed --- they are not involved.
Description of Work: Stay away from these guys. They won't give contact info for their wood stove installer, and are curt and not that friendly. They clearly give the impression that they don't like dealing with people, and the wood stove business is a trial.

Horrible from start to finish. They basically forgot/didnt care about my project; couldn't find work order, the door would sit in their showroom until I called and asked them progress then they finally sent it to an outside company (which took months, which they they didn't tell me about) to do the work . When the door was returned it sat in their office until I called months later. If I hadn't have called who knows how many months it would have sat there. They installed it incorrectly and now they ignore my phone calls. I may have to file a legal claim to force them to either finish their work or pay for someone else to do it. Plus they are rude. lf you try to get them to be more responsible i.e. return phone calls or finish the job they say only Alan the owner can do it and he just dodges you. The project took almost a year! Avoid them like the plague!!
Description of Work: I had a fireplace door replaced. It was an irregular size so it had to be done as a custom replacement. The date listed above is the last service date they installed the door (incorrectly) but it was about a year ago that I ordered it.

After an initially positive experience with the sales person in their Virginia location, I ended up having a bizarrely negative experience with the President of the company, Alan Taylor, who visited my home to give us an install estimate. After a great experience in their VA showroom, could never get anyone to call about an install. Eventually the helpful sales person connected me to their MD headquarters and within a week I finally got a call back (3 weeks after my first visit to the showroom). Company owner/President Alan Taylor visited my home today to measure our fireplace for a conversion to a gas log and to give us an installation estimate. He could not have been more condescending or rude. He quoted $1250 for the install alone. When I asked why it was $250 more than the $1000 I had heard from his sales team, he said, well, it's because it's in DC with no real explanation why being in DC would be more. Especially since he wasn't going to deal with pulling permits. I should note that I entered the house first, took off my shoes, and he charged by into my living room with his shoes on without a pause. Not a huge deal, but not a great start. I asked when we might be able to get it installed and he looked at me like a Martian, and would not offer an estimate of timing nor how I could find out. No idea how this company stays in business if he's the example of customer service. Rude, dismissive, short, and seemed uninterested in my business. Because of a political sign in the front yard? Bizarre, disappointing interaction as I was actually looking forward to getting a gas log installed asap.
Description of Work: Visited Virginia showroom in the hope of ordering a gas log insert and getting them to install it which includes converting a wood fireplace to a vented gas insert log.
