Keith Ardinger, the owner of A&L Construction, responded immediately to my initial phone call, and he came by to give me a verbal estimation of what we wanted. A written estimate arrived 2 days later via email. I had to submit the plans to our homeowners' association, and waiting on their approval took longer any of this entire process. Once I got the HOA approval, I called Keith and he scheduled the project. Due to another of their projects being on hold, ours proceeded within a few days. It was positively fascinating to watch Earl as he carefully and systematically removed the existing deck. In one day. The debris was removed and the next day, lumber was delivered and placed alongside our driveway. A trailer was left in our driveway for the throwaway pieces, which remained there for the duration of the project. The lumber/supplies were delivered in stages. Every day, I was amazed with how quickly the porch progressed. Earl worked long days, and was always cheerful and willing to answer any questions I had. His skills are absolutely unrivaled. He takes great pride in producing a quality project, one that is truly beautiful in the end. That he can just look at something and then make it happen is incredible to me. The finished product is simply beautiful. We chose white trim, metal ballasters, and a doggie door in the screen door. When the weather warms up, we'll seal the floor (interlocking kiln-dried pine planks), and all exposed interior wood. A ceiling fan and outdoor flood lights will be installed later this spring. Keith referred us to an electrician he works with, and we will be getting a second estimate as the first one was quite high ($1400). I have a correction to make. On two days, Earl had his son help him with lifting some beams. Other than that, all work was done by Earl. The reviews that others have written on Angies List speak very highly of Earl and his talents. Based on what I read, crazy as it is, I did not get any other estimates because I knew I wanted Earl to build my screened-in porch. It really is a thing of beauty, and and will provide my family a great space to enjoy once the weather warms up. I believe you will not be disappointed in any way if you are looking to have one built for you and Earl does his magic!

apparently I did not.From the moment Keith came to the house to present his proposal, thru the construction phase by Earl, the electrical work by Miguel, and the painting/staining work by Javier, working with A&L was a pleasure. Although this work was not inexpensive, I don't regret a thing. I love spending time on the porch and its appearance is amazing. I thought of saving a few dollars by installing only two skylights, but fortunately Earl talked me into four. I was concerned that four would heat up the porch on hot, sunny days but that is not the case. I had all exterior wood on the porch covered in vinyl to minimize maintenance. Of course, the trex deck needs no meaningful maintenance either. I thought I had posted a review of this work last year, but apparently I did not.

This is a first-class, professional firm. Keith Ardinger, the owner, is a very knowledgeable builder and his workers know their trade. My first contact with Keith was Nov. 19, 2015, when he looked over the work area and made some notes. I gave him a hand drawing of what I wanted. We discussed my vision of the end product and he understood. I suggested he look at similar installations in the neighborhood (my HOA requires external home construction to resemble or harmonize with neighboring homes), to get an idea of what my porch should look like. I received A&'L's proposal 4 calendar days after Keith met with me. Materials were delivered Dec. 15th. Two workers began work on Dec. 16th and the porch was completed on Dec. 21st. Two carpenters began on the front door, attic stairway and banister on Dec. 21st and finished Dec. 22. A&L obtained all necessary permits. The worksites were cleaned up at the end of each day and all scrap was hauled away at the end of the job. All of the work exceeded my expectations. My wife and I are very pleased with the finished product. (We have an aging deck that will require repair in a year or so, and we will not hesitate to contact A&L when the time comes.)

Keith (the owner of A&L Construction) promptly replied to my email and we set up a meeting time to go over the project so he could provide an estimate. Keith arrived promptly and was very friendly. We discussed what I wanted done and Keith gave a ballpark plan for how he would solve the problem. Less than a day later, Keith provided me with an estimate. The only additional charge was one at my request for him to pull a permit from the County. Overall, I thought his estimate was very reasonable. Keith was tied up for a few weeks, but obtained the permit from the County and began construction the week after Thanksgiving. His team of two carpenters were excellent. They arrived promptly at 8-815am and made quick work of the project. When an issue came up they contacted me quickly. One of the carpenters stopped by on a Saturday morning to go over a problem, which I thought was nice of him since he was clearly on his way to spend time with his family. The project was completed in about 4-5 days. The only snag in the whole project came with the final inspection/payment. Keith asked to be paid in full prior to the final inspection, but I would only pay after the deck passed final inspection. Keith does not ask for money up front, only after the project is complete. I understand that this structure puts a burden on him, but I felt it was unfair to ask for all of the money before the deck passes inspection. We agreed that I would meet him at the inspection and pay him once it passed. The deck passed inspection with flying colors and I handed him a check the moment the building inspector handed me the final inspection sticker. Keith built an outstanding and ridiculously strong deck. The inspector even commented that it could hold up three more floors the way it was framed. While the payment/final inspection issue was unfortunate, I wouldn't hesitate to use Keith again (though I doubt I will need to with the deck he built) or recommend him to my family and friends.

Keith and his team are simply amazing. After some horrible experiences with contractors we were extremely lucky to find A & L Construction to help us rebuild our deck. Not only is Keith and his extremely knowledgeable on "right" way to do things but also took our budget and likes into consideration. His team could speak to the various materials we were considering and the pros/cons of each. The team worked extremely hard each day to get done ahead of schedule, and Keith kept us informed of the progress and costs. At the end of the day, the finished product is beautiful and done with a high regard for quality. There were no corners cut to just get the project done faster. What impressed me the most was that they actually care about our family and have a high level of integrity. Even after the project was finished, Keith was involved in helping us navigate the county permit and inspection process that we had initiated on our own with our original "bad" contractor. Without A & L we would be left without a safe, finished, approved product. Without a doubt, we will use the team again.

Called in mid July to get an estimate2c Keith came over and I told him what I thought we wanted and our budget He was impressed that I was at least in the ball park. We also wanted a short turn around if we used A and L, like three weeks due to extended family coming in. We signed a contract about July 5th and Keith squeezed us in to get this done by August 6. Earl and his son came the first day and had the decks all down in less than a day I have yet to find a nail left anywhere. Earl is a craftsman, the work is all we expected and this guy pretty much single handily built this to include putting the roof on alone. During his short breaks I would talk with him, he really loves to work with wood. He provided a suggestion on the location of the door and it is perfect. I also paid extra for lattice to be installed not to hard to do yourself but no way would it have come as good as they did and he even put a door on for me. A nice small touch. Earl gets 5 STARS! The electrician was extra that was about another two thousand, I thought that was a little high but Keith and Earl both recommended him. Miguel added two GFI outlets as well as installed an outdoor ceiling fan. His work was just fine as well. We have basically lived on the new screened in deck. Only thing missing is an outdoor TV but that is coming soon.

The original delivery of materials was not correct and rather than make-do they had it returned for the right product that same day. The size of patio is small but ever so classy !! The workers were quick, polite, & punctual. My new oasis has Trex flooring, white vinyl rails with finished caps & pcv wrapped pillars on the lower level. The extra dollars we spent is well worth the comfort of excellent quality. We feel ours is now the showcase of the neighborhood

The service was excellent. Keith came for the estimate, gave the size and gave me a lot of different options that I could do that I had not even thought about before. He didn?t try to upsell, he was like, whatever you want to do is whatever you want to do. I really appreciated that. He was on time. He rang my doorbell at exactly the time that the meeting was supposed to start. They are really responsive and really knowledgeable. The guy has been doing this for a long time and he is easy to work with. They were cheaper than a lot of other guys.

Our deck and porch came out very nice. Earl, their carpenter, did a fantastic job. It was amazing to watch how a stack of wood was used to construct a beautiful deck & porch.

On schedule. Pleased with finished product. Passed stringent inspection process.

From start to finish, A&L was a pleasure to deal with. Keith visited our home and discussed our plans. He returned with detailed options and was readily available during the 4 weeks of construction (weather caused some delays). Earl was on-site and did nearly all of the work. What a craftsman! He also was unfailingly friendly and willing to answer any questions we had. Never left a mess and we had nothing for the final walk-through with Keith that needed to be addressed. Outstanding work in every detail. Incredibly, no down payment was requested. We gladly paid in full at the conclusion of the work.

I contacted the company for an estimate on 10/8/2014. They wrote back the next day and asked when they could come by. I wrote back on the 10th and told them anytime would be fine. I never heard from them again.

Outstanding job by this contractor and his team. After a slight delay (finishing up work on a previous job and lumber delivery delayed by one day); the crew quickly dismantled the old deck and hauled it away on the first day. Construction of the new deck proceeded smoothly and the crew on site did a superb job installing a very well built deck with alot of attention to craftmanship and exceeding my expectations. Bill and his team were not satisfied with the job until I was and were very quick to fix or correct a couple of minor things that I pointed out as the work progressed. They ensured the work site was cleaned up at the end of each day. Some siding repairs were the last work item on the job, they had some challenges locating the siding style and color but stayed after it until located and installed. Payment for the entire contract was not required until all work was completed to my satisfaction and the county final inspections complete. Will absolutely use the company again -- professional craftsman who really know there craft and know how to treat a customer right.

The initial meeting with Keith went well. He noted that he had worked in our area consistently for a couple of decades and gave comparable advice to other contractors that showed up. We settled on him as the contractor and asked for a bid. It took over two weeks to get it, at which point he noted he had had some family issues. After we locked in on a price and date, we were in touch up until the week of the project, at which point neither he nor his crew contacted us or showed up. I haven't heard from him since. I also don't make it a practice to chase contractors to do paid work, so I haven't attempted to touch base since. Truly a shame, as I thought we had found a good fit for our project, but I've learned the hard way that lack of communication and follow-up with any contractor is a bad sign. Very disappointed.

Keith, the designer was very professional and gave us many options to meet the building code requirements. He was always responsive to questions and on time to meetings. His design was just what we wanted and the price was very reasonable compared to other estimates. The porch and deck built by Earl, a master carpenter. He built the porch and decks according to the schedule and was very responsive to any questions or concerns. At the end of each day he cleaned up his tools and scraps so our grass and outside where usable. The porch and decks are beautiful and exactly what we hoped for when planning this project. Keith connected us with an electrician who finished the job by installing fixtures, outlets and a fan.

Keith was easy to meet and plan with and was patient with us as we took a very long time to decide what and how we wanted to do it. He helped us plan and did not pressure us in any way. Once work began, all of the work went smoothly. Our main crew was Earl, who is a powerhouse and all around great guy. My kids loved to watch him work and he was happy to show them what he was doing and how things worked. The whole crew showed up on time and was wonderful, neat, and a pleasure to have around. Anytime there was a question or decision or issue, it was brought to my attention immediately and we handled it together. There was some additional construction required on the roof once the old screen porch was removed and that was dealt with quickly and easily. We had a change of plans with the gutter system and that was easily done. Once the porch was complete, we got to step back and enjoy it. The livable outdoor space it adds to our house is wonderful, and we use it all the time. It is absolutely beautiful and has changed how our whole house looks from the back for the better. We really love it! We'd hire A & L again in an instant, and have recommended them to several friends. .

The estimate went well. The way they treated me and the knowledge they had made me go with them. They have reasonable prices and are very responsive. I would absolutely recommended them to be considered for the work.

A year later, we love the work and project. The price was quite good for the size of the project and he had all the options that we wanted to consider, some we took and some we didn't. He always came on time and the work was completed within the time frame we originally discussed. There were a few complicating factors (over stairs and cement, but they worked them out without issue. My only regret was not getting the wood stained, I did not get it as a part of the price. Perhaps it is better to have waited and to get it done now. The same is true with the electric.

I purchased an Angie's Deal for deck design. Bill Lahait was very responsive, knowledgeable, and helpful. I went ahead and hired A&L to rebuild my deck which was well over 20 years old. My deck is approximately 12' by 30' and includes 13 steps. They also rebuilt a decorative railing (approximately 40 ft in length total). The new deck is much more attractive and safe, and has held up well for three years now. The work was done in 2-3 days (without my being home) and everything was completely cleaned up upon completion.

Nonresponsive. Typical contractor -- doesn't return calls. I called on 5/8/14 to schedule an estimate for several projects I need to get done on my house. There was no answer, but I left a voicemail. Nine (9) days later, I still haven't received a call back.

The workers from A&L Construction could not be more professional. From the first meeting with Keith (one of the owners) to the final product, my husband and I were very pleased. Our porch is not a traditional shape, so everything had to be custom cut. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and we were left with a beautiful screened in porch. Thank you A&L Construction, we know we will enjoy our porch for many years to come!

A&L is excellent. They are very professional, and the quality of their work is top-notch -- better than anything else I've seen at other homes I've been to. Keith, one of the owners, went out of his way to get us through zoning hurdles in the historic district where we live. The construction crew was very professional and considerate, and got the project done in a timely manner. We were very impressed with the quality of the deck -- it is so solid and tight, and it was made with great attention to detail. The city inspector asked me to tell the builders how impressed he was, and he has seen a lot of decks! We couldn't be happier with the finished product. The price was very reasonable, and we got higher estimates from builders whose proposals were less impressive and whose experience was less.
