TOP OF THE LINE

Bad and good. I couldn't rate them good but I mean I shouldn't have joined Angie's List I guess because I've kind of taught if you can't say something good don't say anything at all but it's like they did a really lousy job here but I recommended them to a friend. They just did not do a good job at my house.

Team of three arrived within time frame, squeegeed windows, removed and cleaned screens, wiped sills. I noticed after the window washing that the squeegee left a line of water/dirt on the edges of some windows and asked that the windows be cleaned all the way to the edge. I was told that they could wipe the edges with a towel but that this would leave a streak later. I guess I prefer a towel streak to water/dirt marks so the window edges were toweled. Unfortunately the sills of the upstairs windows are still dirty and a basement window has caked dirt on it. I was really disappointed after others' positive reviews.

Great. The crew showed on time and completed the contracted work flawlessly.

The workers showed up on time, and I received a call about 30 minutes before to let me know they were on the way. The men were professional and friendly, and even cleaned the interior of the kitchen windows (lots of splash marks from the sink). I highly recommend this company, and will use them again.

Two men came in that morning, they called to let me know they were on their way. Punctual. When the workers (2) came in, Israel came in with them to introduce the workers and say hello. They were prompt, professional, and cleaned after themselves. Amazing work, I can now see out of my clean windows. They cleaned the inside, window sills, outside, and all the screens. Some of the windows are in the 4th floor and they had all the necessary equipment to get the job done.

Contractor contacted my w/in 48 hrs. Scheduled appt for following week. The workers arrived on time, were friendly, professional and did an excellent job. My windows look great!! I am pleased w/work that was done as well as the price charged. I would call them again and have already recommended them to a neighbor!

This is the quickest I've ever written a review but the Top of The Line team did such an excellent job I wanted to get this out there quickly. I called on Wednesday hoping to be scheduled for early next week but unfortunately Israel (the owner) told me they were booked until the following Saturday. I scheduled for then and when I gave him my address he said he'd have a crew in the area this Saturday and would possibly get them to stop by if they had time. Well this morning they were here at 8 a.m. which was awesome, they went straight to work and had everything done in 90 minutes. Very nice job! Windows, sills, sliding doors all look brand new. I am recommending Top of The Line to anyone who needs windows cleaned. And by the way, if you think your windows aren't dirty, let these guys clean them and take another look.

After contacting this company by phone, Israel came by the house to give an estimate on cost and time. On the day of cleaning, he and his assistant arrived on time. He had estimated that the job might take four hours but he finished in two and a half hours. I am happily pleased with the cost, the time it took, punctuality and professionalism of this company. I will definitely use them again.

It went really well. They were ahead of schedule (they called to see if they could get me in earlier but my schedule did not allow it). They were very clear on what they would be doing, removed shoes when they were inside, had me inspect when they were done. Overall an excellent job and experience for me.

I was given an arrival envelope of between 8:00 - 9:00 am, they arrived at 8:30. Two men. The foreman came in and we quickly walked through the house checking over the windows and access, etc, then they got right to work removing the screens and taking them outside for washing. They worked quickly and quietly. The gentleman that was inside the house wore protective booties over his shoes. There was no wear, tear or damage that I could see. They have an efficient system in place and the job was done in a little over 4 hours. I am very pleased with their work and would use them again. Yes, it is expensive, and I'm not sure how my job was priced in that they advertise a "special" of 10 windows for $95; however my windows were very dirty and I was not finding the time to clean them, so in my book this was money well spent.

We hired a window washing company because we were unable to get the windows 100% clean. The screens pop out, but it's a bit unnerving hanging out an 11th story window to clean it. The gentlemen who arrived from Top of the Line were punctual and professional. The spent about 30 minutes washing the windows, but there was a lot of discoloration and haze left. When asked about it, they explained that it would take a much more powerful chemical to clean that off. Had they explained that to us on the phone, we probably would have skipped the service. I just wonder why they didn't bring the more powerful cleaner with them in the first place! The windows did look better, just not sure it was worth 100 bucks to get the result we got.

They did a really good job. They didn't make a big deal about the size of my house because I have nonstandard windows. They just priced it well, they came, and did the job. The other thing that I really liked about them is their price which was competitive with Angie's List Big Deals. I think it was a Big Deal because I called them and wanted to ask about instructions if I purchase directly. They included cleaning the sills and most of the companies don't. With regards to their punctuality, they were early.

Overall well. Some difficulty getting the job scheduled. Vendor left behind a hose and quite a few rags. They came back to get the hose but left the rags for me to clean up. Window treatments were left askew and had to be aligned. Several pieces of art were disturbed in the process needing to be releveled.

Two workers arrived approximately 9:05am. They prepared their buckets using the front outside water faucet. They entered the house, removed their shoes, and began with the upstairs windows, first removing the screens, then washing the interior windows from the top floor to the bottom floor (three levels.) While one worker cleaned the screens outside, the other erected a ladder and began washing the outside of the windows. By the time the windows were complete, the screens were dry and reinstalled. The entire process took between 1 to 1 1/2 hours. I have lived in my townhouse for almost 25 years and I can't remember when the windows looked this good. It's almost a shame to block the windows with drapes.

Fantastic! The contractor called and provided a two-hour window one business day in advance of the scheduled cleaning. The crew was on time, very professional and respectful, and did a great job. The view from our clean windows is lovely!

They were very easy to work with. They came out and provided the estimate prior to the service and was sure to report what was included (the tracks were NOT but I paid extra to get them done). They were able to fit me in that same week as I was having a party Saturday and wanted everything looking good for it. They showed up on time, maybe a few minutes early actually, and worked diligently the entire time. They started outside with all the windows and doors and worked their way inside. Afterwards everything was sparkling clean! The windows hadn't been cleaned inside or out since I purchased the home 3 years ago and I was really pleased with the outcome. It ended up costing quite a bit more than I expected however, I'm hoping now that everything has been professionally done they will be easier to keep clean and I won't need to have it done again for another year or two. Would def recommend them and plan to have them come do power-washing for me next year.

The cleaning went great, the company was prompt and professional in scheduling service. They did an excellent job cleaning the windows, nice and quietly as my baby slept:) They were able to get to the really high windows in foyer with high ceilings and also in morning room. They were excellent, I will definitely use again, great bargain!

Signed up for the Deal $95 - I had more than 10 windows, so the price was $200. It came out to about $10 per window. It was easy to make the appointment - they were quite accommodating to my schedule and came early morning. The gentlemen were on time (early in fact), courteous - introduced themselves - shook my hand - told me what they were going to do. Gave me a heads up on what might happen when they remove the screens (plastic brackets may break - which can be purchased at Home Depot) - and they immediately got to work. The screens were taken off the windows and scrubbed with soap and water and hosed down - window trims were cleaned as well. They did an Excellent job - Highly Recommend this Company. One of the better Angie's List companies I have engaged so far. I plan to have them out to clean my home in McLean. It is amazing what clean windows will do for a house! Thank you!

Everything went well. They got here on time, worked non-stop for about 3 hours.

Israel and his crew are fabulous. We schedule Top of the Line in the spring, after the pollen season..and in the fall before the holidays. They have us on the schedule and always call a few days ahead to let us know that they're coming over. Excellent and professional work.

I spoke with Israel directly to schedule the appointment, 7 days before the date I wanted. He was accommodating and respectful. July 2 arrived and no one from Top of the Line showed up. I called Israel and although there was no answer, he called me five minutes later explaining that he thought the appointment was for the 12th. That was an unfortunate mistake but he quickly offered to send a team over first thing in the morning. His two men showed up promptly at 0700 the following day. They removed their shoes and went straight to work. The quality of the window cleaning itself was very good. I have two comments though: they did not clean the window sills (inside) or the grooves in which the windows sit. Also, the material they used to clean my bedroom window left some small particles that collected on the floor under my bed. I wish they had thought to clean those up so that I didn't have to. After all were cleaned, I paid by check and handed the head cleaner the 10% off coupon given to first-time Angie's List users. Unfortunately, he neglected to remove that amount off the final bill. A quick call to Israel fixed that problem and the next day I received that 10% back in the form of a refund check. Overall, I was pleased with the service, despite the few hiccups, and would call Top of the Line again.

Having received excellent service previously, I called the supervisor at Top of the Line and asked him about pressure washing our house, which has white vinyl siding, off-white trim, and dark blue shutters. He said that they would pressure wash it using ?biodegradable cleaners.? I hired them for the job. Their crew of two, led by an employee who had done good work for us before, came out on Saturday June 14th and went to work. When the employee said that they were done, we gave him a check for $315, and walked around the house with him to see how wonderful it looked. What we found was not good. The first issue that we noticed was a large piece of the vinyl siding under the eaves, which was jammed up under the roof. Moving that piece of siding back into place was not easy, and we had to intervene when the employee allowed his helper to place a ladder at a very dangerous angle on top of the steeply sloped end of the front porch roof. While all of that was going on, we noticed another piece of siding out of place, under the peak of the gable above our garage. In addition, we noticed that the long, flat surface of the leading edge of that gable was filthy. This long flat surface under the roofline is a large inverted V. It was still covered with dirt and algae, with disgusting slug tracks in it, which had been the primary reason for having the house pressure washed. Not understanding how the house could still be so dirty, I asked the employee what he could use to clean that area. To our amazement, the employee?s answer was ?bleach.? I said that he must have another cleanser, the same one that he had used to clean the house, and he said that they had used only bleach and water to clean the house. He said that all they had to clean that surface were bleach or acid, and that acid would remove the paint. We were absolutely stunned. Given those two options, we chose not to use the acid that would remove the paint, and we allowed the employee to go up a ladder and use bleach on a cloth to wipe away the filth. As he worked his way along the surface, the extreme difference between the light area that he had done and the dark area that had not been done showed how dirty it was. As his cloth became filthy and dry, we could hear it dragging on the surface, but he refused to come down and get more liquid. Then he didn?t want to rinse off the surface. He wanted to leave it with straight bleach drying on it. We insisted that he rinse it, and eventually he did. While he was working on that, although the sun was low in the west and we were on the darker east side of the house, we noticed that the white siding on the front of the garage still had a dirty film on it and I asked about it. The employee said that if we wanted the house clean, that was a different kind of job, done by hand, and not what we had paid for. I told them that I was not happy with the way the house looked, took back our check, and said that I would call the supervisor in Top of the Line?s office and talk to him. The employee said that they had to get going to their next job, and they left. In the late afternoon light, we could see that there were more issues with the work that had been done. The concrete floor of the front porch had mud on it, the area around the front door and the columns of the porch were still dirty, and the siding looked brighter from the bleach, but not really clean. It was not obvious until the sun came up the next day that the bleach had chemically burned our newly installed lawn, the ferns around the house, and some of the shrubs. We were shocked to see that the entire house and all of the windows were covered with a chalky chlorine film. All of the shine was completely gone from the siding and the paint. The dark blue shutters that had always been shiny were now lighter in color, almost gray, and so dull that they appeared to be urgently in need of new paint. The texture of the vinyl siding coated with the chalky chlorine film created a strange spotty effect when viewed from the side. Having been put in this terrible position, I did the research and found that straight bleach should not be used to clean a house because it is not a cleanser. The chlorine will form crystals all over the house instead of sheeting off. The correct product for the job is a house wash with surfactants, which float the dirt off. In addition, straight chlorine is so corrosive that it will damage the siding, the paint, and the plants around the house. The chalky chlorine film and burned plants are exactly what one should expect to see when straight bleach is used to pressure wash a house. I called the supervisor and told him that instead of using the biodegradable cleanser that had been promised, the employee had used straight bleach to pressure wash our house. I explained that the bleach had burned our lawn and the plants around our house, and that our house was completely coated with a chalky chlorine film. I advised him that one could see that waves of chlorine had washed down the windows and stuck in place, making them cloudy. The supervisor was shocked as we were. He said that the product that the employee was supposed to use to wash the house was called ?Powerhouse? and that it was not the company?s policy to pressure wash a house with straight bleach. The supervisor said that he would talk to the owner the next day and call me back. The supervisor called the next day and advised that he had talked to the owner and the employee. He said that the employee had admitted that he had pressure washed the house with straight bleach, and he had been placed on suspension for three weeks. The supervisor said that we did not have to pay the $315 bill for the pressure washing, and that we would be given discounts on future work. I explained to him that although we appreciated not being billed for the $315 pressure washing charge, our house and our lawn had been damaged by the bleach, and I would have to discuss the problem with my husband and call him back. After discussing it with my husband, I called the supervisor back and told him that we were unsure about the extent of the damage. We did not know if the grass would come back from the roots or if the bleach had killed it. Most seriously, we did not know if the chalky chlorine film would wash off of the house, and we did not know what the paint and siding looked like under the chlorine film. The supervisor assured me that the chlorine film would rinse off with rain water. I told him that we were going to have to pend the matter until we could see if the grass came back, and once the chlorine film washed off, what the house looked like underneath. At no point did he offer to have someone come out and wash the chlorine film off of our house. After the next heavy rain, I could see that rain water was not removing the chlorine film, and we received an invoice for $315 in the mail. I called the supervisor again to let him know that the chlorine film was not rinsing off with rain water, and we had received an invoice. He said that the invoice was generated automatically and that we should disregard it. I told him that we needed to get the chlorine film off of the house so that we could see what was underneath, and that we were going to wash the chlorine film off using a house wash with surfactants, which would float the chlorine off of the house. I asked the supervisor why the employee had done this, and he said that the employee had said that he was having personal issues, and that he felt really bad about what he had done. I feel sorry for all involved. My husband and I spent most of the day on Saturday June 28th washing the chlorine film off of our house. It now looks clean and white. But the siding and paint are completely dull. The vinyl siding had looked like it had been painted with glossy paint, and now it appears to have been repainted with flat paint. The trim that had in fact been painted with glossy paint, also appears to have been repainted with flat paint. The color change on the shutters from dark blue to the lighter color of blue-gray appears to be permanent. The entire surface of the house that was treated with bleach has been damaged. This is very serious. Our trim paint would have been touched up soon. Now our trim needs to be completely repainted immediately. We had no intention of replacing our vinyl siding at any time. The white siding was shiny and beautiful, needing only a good cleaning. Now our siding will have to be replaced. There are a few areas near the lights on the front of the garage where the siding is still shiny, which makes sense since they probably did not pressure wash the light fixtures. The grass that had been dark green has spots that are burned brown. In areas where it does not grow back, it will have to be replaced. We applied two organic corn gluten treatments this spring to inhibit weed germination, and we cannot grow grass from seed for some time. Grass would have to be transplanted into dead areas. We have been advised by our insurance agent that we will have to file a claim against Top of the Line?s insurance. After seeing all of the great reviews for Top of the Line on Angie?s List, and posting great reviews for their gutter cleaning and window washing work, I don?t know how I could have vetted a company better. I did not stand over them and question their process, because the supervisor had told me what they would do and I had learned from experience that I could trust Top of the Line?s crews to do a great job, or so it seemed. One never expects an employee?s personal life to affect his work, especially not when a company has been a reliable provider of excellent service. But here we are. Photos of damage have been added.
