We contacted Hal Co Fence & Deck to have a deck addition installed. An appointment was scheduled, a visited made by I believe Steve, and he left stating he would send some renderings and a quote within a couple days. The visit was cordial and went very well, we asked for suggestions, he offered options, etc. We never heard back from them, not even a courtesy, "thanks for your interest in our company, however we're unable to provide you service at this time."

Dealing with HalCo has been a two-time frustration for us. Our initial order was placed in 2009, for a white picket vinyl fence for which their bid was in the middle price range. Jeff, the salesman, fawned over us until he got our deposit. Then the delays in installation began. When the fence finally went in, it was crooked and slanted unattractively along both sides of the house. Though the workmen were very polite, both they and Jeff did a lot of shoulder shrugging when we pointed out the issues with the fence and asked for correction. Then they disappeared altogether - until the bill for the balance of the job arrived. We wound up getting a very small discount and an unaltered, poorly installed fence. We have to struggle to get the gate open and closed on one side as the posts have shifted even futher since installation... Fast forward to hurricane Irene, which brought a huge tree down that destroyed part of the fence. I had no wish to deal with HalCo again, so asked the contractor who was performing other repairs to work with them. Same story: responsive at first, then no calls were returned, even after the contractor said he spoke with the owner. If they didn't want to do the repair, fine - but they refused to give the name of the materials supplier so that we could order matching pickets, etc., to fix the fence ourselves. We also would have been happy to purchase materials from them and do our own installation. These guys might seem nice and affordable at first, but be careful... the mixed reviews I see on this site seem to show that that anything could happen!

.We were unhappy with the scheduling. They scheduled it for one particular day and then they called a day later and told me that it is going to be two weeks later. We were very unhappy with that. Basically he looked at the scheduling and read it wrong. He had to call me back. He did not apologize. Otherwise we were happy with their work except that they put the name plate in front of the fence without asking us permission. We really don’t want to advertise. Price wise it is good. In the future we would try out someone else.

Was referred to Halco by a friend. Interviewed them and 2 other companies. Halco wasn't the cheapest however they were the only wants willing to come out and find my property markers (pins) without first requiring a full survey. They did a great job on the install and the fence is still standing tall ~6 years later. I do wish they wouldn't cheap out with using nails, which don't hold long term in wood, but rather use outdoor rated screws. Highly recommend.

They were very responsive and showed up when they said they would. The entire fence went up in less than 1 day and looks great! They also beat other estimates that came in between $4,000 and $5,000. Great price and great service.

Never returned phone calls and messages

They did a perfect job and it was really good. I called 3 or 4 companies and I chose Halco Fences. They did a great and terrific job. They were really fantastic and I was very happy with them. They were fast. The price they charged me for the 8 foot high fence was something that some of the other companies were charging for a 6 foot or 7 foot fence. It looks terrific too. They removed the old fence and dug the ground and then installed the new fence. They cleaned up quickly as well. I wouldn?t hesitate to refer them to my family or friend. My experience was very good. There was nothing that I wasn?t happy with.

Their bid was prompt and thousands below the bid received from Long Fencing. It was the middle bid. The crew arrived on time and really hustled to do the work. The materials are first rate; the tressil top is of much thicker material than another contractor used at our neighbors. The arbor is really first rate and greatly helps our curb appeal. The 6 x 6 posts sunk in 36" and they used 80 lbs of concrete per post; they are rock solid. the gates turned out very nicely. Extremely pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

We finally decided to replace our petrified and rotting fence this year when we came across Hal Co.'s Value Saver Mailer coupon. We decided to check them out on Angie's List first to see what type of rating they had and were very impressed. Even so we still asked two other companies for competing bids. Not only was Hal Co. one of the quickest responses, they had the best price and the friendliest estimator. The only problem we ran into was having to reschedule due to the weather (which wasn't that big of a deal - I mean, they do work outside.) The staff wasn't able to come on the rescheduled day until 1:30pm, but they worked quickly to get the job done in ONE DAY! I was very impressed. They were neat and tidy and respected our neighbor's yards as well as ours. My husband and I are extremely happy and we are now the envy of the neighborhood with our beautiful double gate!

In November 2009 HAL CO Fence installed a vinyl fence for us. We chose them because of the good reviews on Angies list. I held off rating them because I was waiting to see how they responded to issues we've had since the install. The owner Dave talked me into paying the balance because he assured me the problems would be dealt with. Well, that was December 2009. Since that time I have left numerous voice mails and sent several emails, to which I have received only one response in the form of a phone call over three weeks ago from Dave, the owner. Again he assured me that he would have someone come by and fix our problems. In short both gates are out of plumb and need to be forced to open. Several spindles are out of plumb, and one post has sunk. My most recent contact was with the salesman Jeff about a week ago. He assured me he would get right on it and get back to me. It took an additional two weeks, but Dave and the foreman came to my house, surveyed the problems and a week later all of the problems were repaired. Dave was apologetic and admitted that they had dropped the ball. At the end of the day, my wife and I are happy with the fence.

The 3 men from Halco did an EXCELLENT job in less than 3 hours. I am so pleased with their work. Would definitely recommend them.

Very pleased with this company. My husband and I waited until the last minute to try to get a fence up before relatives arrived (with their 2 dogs) for Easter. I called Dave (owner) on Thursday and was able to get an estimate from him the next morning. Immediately I was impressed that he was willing to come out so quickly AND coordinate with my schedule (he came before we left for work)! We took a few hours to decide which style and product we wanted and called Dave back to inform him of our decision. He came back that evening to finalize and get deposit. We were told the fence would be installed within the next 2-weeks (we were in the rainy season) and that we'd get a call on Monday to tell us exactly when. As promised we were called bright and early Monday and told that Wednesday morning our fence could be installed if that worked with our schedule. Work was supposed to begin around 8am on Wednesday but was pushed back to noon due the rain recieved in the previous days (workers needed to finish up the previous day's job). Although the work got pushed back a few hours, it didn't make a difference. The 3 young men who built the fence were so efficient and in synch that the fence was built within about 5 hours. It was amazing to watch. At the last minute (hours before the fence was to be built) we decided to make the fence 6 feet deeper and because of that Hal Co was not able to finish the job in one day, due to the lack of fencing to accomodate the last minute change. However, the same 3 men came back the following day to finish and were done within 2 hours. The fence is very solid, pleasing to the eye, and without fault or blemish. Final Thought: To know us is to know that we are very particular and somewhat of a "pill" to deal with, so to get a good report from us is quite a feat. We requested a rush job, made a last minute request for them to log with the county for us (we said we'd do it), and changed the size of the fence moments before the work began. All of this and we never received attitude or any "convenience" charges for our changes. Dave and his crew are very friendly and hardworking and we are glad we chose them. We highly recommend them and will refer them to anyone needing fence/deck work.

This company has done many fences in my neighborhood, so I was familiar with their work firsthand. My next door called to get the estimate, and sent the Hal Co representative to my door one saturday back in October 2008. The weather got too cold back in the fall, so my neighbor called again this spring to see if Hal Co. would still do the work at the original estimate. They agreed and I sent in my deposit. We waited a little while because it's been a rainy spring. Hal Co called me on a Friday, and said they estimated the work would be done on Wednesday, weather permitting. The work was completed in 1 day on May 20. Great job, very professional results.

The overall experience was excellent. I had received estimates from several fence companies and even after committing to one of them they never followed up as promised or were completely nonresponsive. Dave came out and gave an estimate on the weekend which was very competitive and subsequently was very responsive to my follow up questions via telephone or email. Upon accepting the estimate they quickily ordered the materials and kept me informed of any changes to the timeline for installation.The day of installation the crew was on time as promised, very professional and thoroughly cleaned up after the job was complete. the fencing looks great!

Jason came out to give us a bid, arriving on time and with a smile. He surveyed the property, showed me photos of types of fencing and then asked details on how we'd like it done. He emailed a bid to me the next day and it was 40% of the bid I received from another fencing company, for the exact same product. The installation went as planned, the crew was on time and worked fast. I was very impressed with their work. They even dug an extra hole for my new mailbox and set it for me. Above and beyond. The only issue I encountered was an argument between their job foreman and his workers. They were yelling at each other and it made me feel very uncomfortable.

The commercial versus industrial distinction is subtle (not visible), industrial grade is slightly stronger and would have been more expensive. I only discovered this after the installation was fully complete. I could not justify in my own mind re-doing the entire fence (i.e., paying the delta between commercial and industrial, removing the commercial, and putting in industrial), so I asked them to (1) reinforce one section that spanned open air by changing out that long section and replacing it with two short sections and a post; and (2) provide an extended warranty in case someone damages the fence climbing it. They were happy to do both.

Estimation process was fine. Building process fine, but left 3 pallets of materials. Called, and received verification that the stuff would be picked up 3 times. Fence posts warped within a month, they finally replaced the warped posts, but it took 2 appointments to get someone out to look at the work. They won't be doing my deck.

Dave came out when he said he would and provided an estimate by the time he said he would. His estimate was comparable to the others I received, but he seemed much more knowledgeable about the building codes for pool fencing and he was able to work within the time frame we established for the job. The day before the job was to be started, Dave came out to mark the exact placement of the fence and gates and the wood was delivered. On the day of installation, the crew arrived on time and were able to work with and around several other trades who were there at the same time. They cleaned up the site at the end of the day and the fence looks terrific. The next day Dave followed up with a phone call to make sure everything was done properly and to our satisfaction.

Due to the location of a brick shed at the bottom of a five step stairwell (one gate being installed at the top of the steps). The 5 foot fence post did not fall flush against the wall, due to the overhang of the roof and it left approximately a 6-8 inch gap. I was planning to use chicken wire, zip ties and bricks. To my surprise (and absolute delight), at the end of the job, the crew went above and beyond and secured a board to the shed and put a piece of matching chain link extending from the post to the shed. No dogs escaping this way! They also installed a brand new gate at the top of the exercise area, so that I have the option of containing my dogs in a smaller area closer to the house when needed (such as when the lawn guy comes). Excellent job done on my dog management area!
