Hal Co Fence and Deck

Hal Co installed a fence with three gates around our yard Spring of 2014. One of the gate posts warped causing the gate to not close properly. Hal Co responded and replaced the post and the affected gate. Did a superb job of staying in contact and workmanship.

The deck was about $10,000 and the fence was about $4000. They did a very good job. They did exactly what we needed them to do. They were very flexible with scheduling. We would recommend them. The deck was a multi-day project. It took them probably four days or maybe five to do the deck work. The fence was a single day project. We've accomplished what we wanted to accomplish. They were knowledgeable, skilled, pleasant and prompt. Their pricing seemed very reasonable. The only difficulty that I've had is that they installed some lighting on the deck. A couple of the lights have been a little sketchy. They have been responsive to all of the inquiries that we've made.

After researching and getting multiple quotes from other contractors, it was determined that HALCO Fence was the most reputable fence/deck contractor in the area and not to mention the main reason, the Cheapest. We were 100% happy with the overall project from start to finish. Dave the owner was very responsive and always there to answer any of my questions. The contractors completed the project in one day. After the project was complete, I noticed a couple small concerns that I addressed to Dave. Without any hesitation, he was at my house the next day to address any issues I had. Definitely recommend and I will for sure be using them in the future.

From start to finish, this job was extremely professional. The pricing was in line with other estimates and the quality is beyond great. The salesman, Steve, was a pleasure to work with. He quickly addressed any concerns we had and followed up to ensure we were 100% satisfied with our fence...and we are. The work crew was friendly and professional. They left my yard cleaner than it was when they arrived. I highly recommend their services.

Hal Co was superb. They met with me very quickly after I contacted them to discuss with me options and recommendations for fencing. The installation was amazingly quick and efficient. They paid a great deal of attention to detail. I am impressed with their work and their professionalism. I'd highly recommend them.

Scheduling was pretty easy once we opted to go with Hal Co. They were able to schedule us for the second non-rainy day after they received our paperwork. The workers managed to pull down the existing fence in about 30 minutes, which was impressive considering how much of the wood was rotting. The entire project took a full 8 hours for a fairly hilly 260 linear feet with two gates being built. The materials used seem quite good and the time spent ensuring that every detail was correct was very much appreciated. ------------------ UPDATE ------------------ Our double gate had a minor issue where the two doors were pulling away from each other. HAL came right out and fixed it within days of being informed of the issue. They clearly stand by their work.

The install went ok but communications were not good. I got the work performed in 2012 but the deck deck started leaning in 2013. It stabilized but I called them in 2014 to come fix it. After saying they would come to inspect it they never came. , I decided to go with Long Fence to get a privacy fence and larger deck installed. I owner did respond to me and tried to remedy the problems. I changed the rating accordingly.

My neighbor and I could not be happier with the new fence. The installation went smoothly, the crew was very professional and the quality of the new fence and gates is outstanding. We are glad we went with a firm that specializes in fences as the previous fence and gates were done by a handyman, for a much cheaper price, but the end result was not a sturdy fence that is attractive and will last for years. We are also glad we went with Hal Co as the other highly rated Fence Co that provided us an estimate wanted $350 more to remove the old fence (which struck us as a poor business practice).

Even with the weather challenges this year, they were able to quickly remove the old deck, finding some rotted wood and a vent that had been covered and blocked when the original deck was built. The repaired the rotted wood, fixed the vent and installed the new Trex deck, which is beautiful and much more sturdy than our original deck. The pulled all permits and worked with the inspectors passing the county inspection the first time. The foreman was very knowledgeable and had to point out the building code requirements to the county inspector. I have used HAL twice before to install a fence at our last house over 15 years ago (the fence is still up and looks good) and the fence at the current house, which has been up since 2003. I highly recommend HAL.

My neighbor used Hal Co for a deck and she said they were OK. I called for an estimate for a fence and stair install for my yard. Guy was an hour late in arriving. That happens, at least he called. But then I never received an estimate. I called twice with no reply. Finally I got a voice mail from someone - who said they were still waiting to get a price on a price for plexiglass for the stair banister. After three weeks I never heard a word (or saw an email) from them.

Hal Co was the second company to respond to my request for an estimate to install a chain link fence to match my neighbors, and to replace two damaged sections of her fence. Chuck was very polite and professional - even though I had to prompt a follow up on a couple of occasions. Still a pleasure to deal with. Their estimate was actually lower than the company I went with - and the reason I went with the other company is that they were just a bit better at follow up. That's something very important to me because I have so much going on in my personal and professional life, that I depend on companies that I contract with to be "on their game" so I can relax. Maybe I'm demanding, but I'm also cutting the check. That being said, I would not hesitate to call upon Hal Co and Chuck again, and I will when it comes time to replace the fence at my other home.

UPDATE: Spoke with the owner of the company. He was aware that a salesperson dropped the ball last year and he was very apologetic. He has taken steps to prevent this happening again in the future. After speaking with Dave, I felt that I needed to change my rating on HalCo because I honestly believe that I would not any of these issues going forward. - K. 4/22/14 I know this company works in my area as they did the fence for my immediate neighbor. I contacted them because my neighbor had such a good experience with them. I called and the sales person was super nice and seemed to understand exactly what we wanted. We needed to replace about 282 linear feet of fencing and wanted a commercial grade aluminum fence. We also had 440 square feet of decking that needed to be replaced and we wanted it all to be done with composite materials. We also wanted pricing on repairing a large screened in porch. I asked that all three jobs be priced separately so that we could prioritize them, if we needed to do so. I was told that they would "be in touch" and I would get the bid via email. I waited 10 days for their bid. I never got an email from them. I called the company and got voicemail and left a message stating my address and that I was waiting for their bid and asked for a call back. I didn't hear anything from the company. I emailed the company and asked for someone to touch base with me about the bid and, again, I never heard anything. It is now April 2014 and I still have never heard back from this company. I will never even give them the opportunity to bid a job again. I wasn't going to even post a review about Hal Co, but when I saw their reply to someone else that the same thing happened to, I had to reply so that other people realize that this is not an anomaly.

Dave came out and provided an estimate for my new fence. I found every aspect of this installation to be professional, timely, and courteous. I love my fence and do highly recommend Hal Co.

I was totally impressed with them in all aspects of the job. Jeff came out on March 3 to talk to me about what I wanted and gave me a written estimate on that day. He was a very low pressure salesman and really listened to what I wanted (more security for my dogs). I got bids from several other companies which were a bit lower, but Jeff's ability to listen to me and his no pressure approach sold me. Two workman showed up on time on the day scheduled (April 2) and went right to work. It was evident from the start that they knew what they were doing. The work was completed in one day, as promised, and I have never seen such a clean work site. They cleaned up as they went and nothing was left behind. They never took a break and I don't think they even ate lunch. What a joy it is to find a competent company! I am so happy with the company that I have scheduled a meeting with Jeff today to talk about some work I would like done on my patio.

It went well, but the installers ran out of material and had to return the following Monday to complete it. The fence is well built and passed the Homeowners Association rules. It looks great and keeps my dogs in.

When Steve came out to give me estimate he was on time. Very professional. Everything went great from start to finish. I have already recommended them to other people who have decided to use them. Price is great. They cleaned up did not find any nails. Very happy with the work they performed.

Received an estimate for fence repair and replacement. Thoroughly explained fence repair vs. replacement and gave me an estimate on 3 different scenarios. I appreciated the fast response to my request for quote. Something suddenly came up and unfortunately I did not have the work done but I would have chosen Hal Fence as my fence contractor. I'd recommend this company based on all the Hal fences I see everywhere in Prince William County. Great looking fences!

My wife and I interviewed five contractors and received estimates from each to build a large custom deck surrounding an above ground swimming pool. Chuck the salesman showed up on time for the initial consultation and walk around. He spent plenty of time talking to my wife and I about what we wanted to design and taking the appropriate measurements. He answered all our questions and accepted the coupon clipper discount at our first meeting in order to provide an accurate estimate. Within two days of meeting Chuck I received a detailed email indicating what work would be done with a total price. Chuck came back to review the plans one more time and take some final measurements and indicated the work could begin as soon as that same week. Based on price attentiveness attention to detail courteous staff and detailed knowledge of what we were looking to build my wife and I decided to go with Halco fence Company over all the other contractors in what was an easy decision. When Mario the project site lead for our deck showed up with his team on day one my wife and I knew it was going to be a job well done. Mario and his team arrived each day by 7:30 am and we're still working late into the evening's on most days! Mario and Carlos the two lead builders for the project asked detailed questions along the way to ensure the plans were being executed as they were written. The footer and framing inspection from the county passed with no issues. Mario's team was extremely detail oriented and left nothing for me to correct. I would walk the job site each afternoon after work and could not find anything that needed to be fixed. During the county's final inspection the inspector identified two things that needed to be fixed in order to pass the inspection and each were due to the fact that the deck surrounded a pool. Mario and his team showed up the very next day and fixed both items immediately at no additional cost. The attention to detail especially the detailed cuts around the top of the pool deck were done so well that it looks almost like an inground pool. My wife and I searched for months on the Internet looking for the perfect above ground pool surrounded by a deck and never thought that we would find one that came out as good as this one did. We are completely impressed and amazed with the finished product of this deck and would recommend Halco fence company to anybody and everybody who is looking for an exceptional quality and well priced deck with extreme attention to detail at every corner. My wife and I have already had several neighbors over and each have asked for Halco fences company information which we gladly passed on. I am already thinking about the next two projects I want to do in my backyard and plan to call Halco within the next six months to start each one. I was so impressed with their work and their finished product that I joined Angie's list simply to post this review. The work was that well done and the price was very competitive.

The crew was professional. Had a hard time initially figuring out how to rack the aluminum fence up the hill, but figured it out and in the end it looks great. Were very thoughtful about where to put connections so they didn't show as much and were fast. Price was cheapest of several estimates I got for the same thing.

Fantastic. Estimate work was punctual. Installation was punctual. Received discount for return work (HALCO installed rest of my fence when I first moved into my home years ago!). Good quality, professional, clean up job site extremely well.

The crew worked extremely hard and did the entire job in one day (which was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend). They were able to add a couple sections of fence that were not part of the original job and completely that addition on the same day. The crew removed a lot of overgrowth along with the old fencing.
