Description of Work: Bathroom remodeling and Kitchen Tile
In October of 2018, I hired the FBT team to completely remodel my Master Bath. The project took about eight weeks. In the past year and a half, I have been extremely happy with my master bathroom--everything about it--it lifts my spirits and warms my feet (heated floor). In April 2020, I rehired the FBT team to install in the hall bathroom new lights, mirrors, fan, and toilet and to paint and take care of a few minor adjustments. The project took four days in May and, once again, I am very pleased. The team is professional and the work is beautifully done. It makes me wish I had another project, but I don't. Thank you, FBT team.

Our house in northern Virginia (Chantilly) needed an upgrade to our powder room and master bathroom after 25 years since we moved here. We found a number of recommended contractors via Angie’s List and had some of the contractors visit to survey and give us estimates. We selected FTB Tile and Marble form Woodbridge, Virginia and we are very pleased that we did. The owner of FTB, Frank, conducted the surveys himself, and communicated ideas, options, process and schedule, then sent designs and price quotes for both bathrooms. The professionalism, honesty and competence shown by Frank during the survey, and the detailed statements of work and clarity and reasonableness of projected costs caused us to select FTB over other contractors. We proceeded with the Powder Room first to see how FTB would perform before we signed a contract for the larger and significantly more complex renovation of the master bathroom. After meeting with FTB’s recommended designers and selecting tile, vanity, toilet and fixtures, Frank adjusted the details and costs to match our selections, and all within our budget. The renovation of the powder room was completed in 9 days and involved demolition and then installation of new floor tile, toilet, vanity, lights, mirrors, fan, plumbing, electrical and fixtures, as well painting walls, ceiling, door and trim. A project manager was assigned, and the installers, Walter, who has worked for the company for 17 years, and Alfred, were amazing – professional, competent, responsive and pleasant. They worked tirelessly every day and always kept the premises clean. The outcome was a beautiful, new powder room which gave us compete confidence to proceed with FTB to renovate the master bathroom. The process was repeated – updated survey by Frank, meeting with the design consultants, updating the scope of work for the selections we made – again within our budget – ordering and delivery of materials, demolition and renovation. We were fortunate to have Walter and Alfred return to do the bulk of the work which was complete under schedule in 5 weeks with the exception of the shower glass which was purposely scheduled a week later to ensure accurate measurements and fit. This project involved enlarging the bathroom, including the shower and installation of a new stand-alone tub, and required demolition of a wall and installation of a new wall, and relocation of plumbing and electrical, painting, etc. In the middle of the renovation, the pandemic began to hit and FTB team took great pains to keep isolated from us while communicating effectively from a distance to complete the project. The end-result was an absolutely gorgeous bathroom. We highly recommend FTB Tile and Marble.

We have hired many contractors over the past couple of years and FBT Tile & Marble was the best group we have ever worked with on our projects. I have never had a contractor as good as Frank and his Fbttile crew. Two Jasons were the primary contacts, I planned it out with Janelle. Use ONLY Fbttile. You can spend your money and not get good results. It has taken me five contractors to get to Frank DO NOT GO ANY OTHER PLACE FOR YOUR KITCHEN AND BATHROOM ONLY USE FBTTILE AND MOSAIC as the supplier. Thank you for the wonderful feedback! It was a real pleasure working with you on your project!
Frank, Jason, Julio, and Omar did an excellent job building a full bath and converting a half bath into another full bath for us. We're pretty particular about details and Frank and his crew of professionals exceeded our expectations! Julio and Omar work great together and were very professional, courteous and cleaned up at the end of every day. The job was done right the first time and on time. Our friends and neighbors have also made favorable comments about the tile work in both bathrooms. We plan to hire them again to remodel the other three bathrooms soon! We highly recommend FBT Tile.

I am extremely happy with the bathroom remodel recently completed by FBT Tile. Quite a bit of subfloor and ceiling repair was needed. Julio really kept this project on track and it was finished on schedule. The attention to detail was impressive. Beautiful tile work. Even the new drywall was perfectly prepped for the painter who followed Julio and Omar. Couldn’t’have been smoother.

Frank and his team were fast, professional, and went above and beyond. Frank personally walked us through the process of picking out the right materials and worked around my busy schedule. The dates provided for the demolition and installation were flexible and were accommodating for all parties. In the end the I am very satisfied with the extreme professionalism of FBT and would highly recommend them to any of my friends. I plan on using their services again!

Frank and his team were outstanding. I would hire them again for any remodeling project required in my home going forward. My master bath renovation was a fairly large and involved project and FBT managed all expectations throughout the entire duration. Charlie was the main craftsman on my project. He was a pleasure to work throughout the process and my bathroom looks like the Ritz Carlton. Thank you FBT Tile and Marble!! I couldn't be happier!!

Frank Brennan and his crew did an outstanding job tiling our patio--removing old tile, putting a state-of-the-art foundation under the tile, and extending the tile to flower beds. We had the patio tiled 4 years ago, when we moved to our Old Town Alexandria home. Yet the tiles they chose were not frost resistant and the concrete foundation they put under was not sufficiently water proof. The entire surface cracked and broke into pieces two years later. FBT's expertise and professionalism were unparalleled. They diagnosed the problem, explained their process and plan for remedying the problems; helped us select the right tiles and worked patiently and meticulously for over a week to make sure the underlying foundation was solid, study water drainage, take measurements to ensure precision in tile placement, etc. They even noticed rotten boards on the side of the house and replaced the two bottom boards with tiles, creating a smooth transition and clean look. The results are absolutely amazing. I also loved it that they managed the process from A to Z. For example, they have a vendor network of close partners they have worked with for year Through this network, they secured financing for us; set us up with a wonderful interior designer who helped us select tiles; and a tile distributor; and handled all transactions with them so that we had a seamless, one-stop shopping experience. The quality of their work was outstanding. They sent two workers, who were employees rather than subcontractors; and a project manager who monitored their work and ensured its quality. They were meticulous, patient, attentive to every small detail and knowledgeable. For example, in addition to concrete, they used a layer of of DITRA under the tiles, specifically designed to allow the installation of ceramic and stone tile over any even and load-bearing substrate and increase water-proofing capabilities. Frank, the owner, was delightful to work with, highly professional and extremely responsive. We plan to work with FBT Tile & Marble in the near future and wholeheartedly recommend them.

I used Frank and his team for a bathroom remodel, including a steam shower. They were easy to work with, responsive, and the quality of the work was excellent. The tile work specifically was very well done. His team that did my tile work and the carpenter both paid excellent attention to detail - I was impressed with the quality of their work. They were very courteous and always cleaned up the mess. They did such a nice job on our bathroom I hired them for 2 other smaller projects and they did a great job on those as well.

FBT was a pleasure to work with on two separate remodeling jobs. The first remodeling job was to install all new plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, lighting, and tile in the master bathroom; the second remodeling job was to install all new plumbing fixtures, cabinetry, lighting, and tile in the main upstairs hall bathroom and the main floor powder room. Additionally the second job included installing french doors in the library leading to the foyer as well as new light fixtures in the foyer and kitchen and a ceiling fan in a bedroom. The quality of FBT's work is at the highest professional level. Jason Bauman is an exceptional project manager who is very customer service oriented and who would stop by daily to review the progress of his team. The team of professionals who performed the day to day work was committed to excellence, always prompt, and always pleasant and personable. I have recommended FBT to many friends and family members and will continue to do so.

My neighbor recommended FBT to me for our master bathroom remodel. FBT, he assured me, would do a great job. He was absolutely correct. We have remodeled our home extensively over the years, so we are not rookies when it comes to dealing with contractors. From great to horrible, we've pretty much seen it all. Our FBT experience ranks as one of the best. To begin with, Frank, Charlie, Krista, Jason and everyone else at FBT who had a hand in our project were a pleasure to work with. They were all extremely polite and considerate. When our custom vanity had to be returned due to a manufacturer screw-up (no fault of FBT), Frank and his team did everything they could to keep the job moving and to minimize the impact of this unfortunate mistake. This is the kind of situation in which quality contractors like FBT shine. Which brings me to Charlie, who did 90% of the work, so we got to know him quite well. In contrast to comments made about him by a reviewer elsewhere on this site, which I find very difficult to believe based on the large amount of time we spent with him, my wife and I especially appreciated how respectful he was of both us and our home. Over the last 30 years, we have welcomed countless trades people into our home to do repairs and major remodeling work. No one has ever been as concerned with keeping our house clean and our floors, furniture, and other property protected as Charlie and Krista. It was actually pretty stunning. Even though Charlie had to travel a long way in traffic every day to get here on time, he always managed to do so, and he always put in a full day’s work. As for the quality of his work, we found him to be an incredibly talented and meticulous craftsman. HIs work with a wide variety of marble, glass, and porcelain tiles was nothing short of remarkable. We would hire FBT again in a heartbeat -- and if and when we do, we would definitely request that Charlie do the work.

My wife and I are very pleased with the quality of work FBT provided. The crew was very professional, friendly and punctual. From the very first day Frank and Jason provided great suggestions on our remodeling options. A couple things I really liked was that Jason was very focused on what my wife wanted. Also we liked that working with FBT, they had a team of companies they worked with that we made our purchases with (tile, lights, sinks, splashboard, etc. Frank and Jason kept us very informed of the crew's schedule and progress. In addition to Frank's own crew, their subcontractors were also professional and skilled (cabinetry, electrician). My wife is a very particular person and absolutely loves the work FBT did; I do too. Working with Frank, Jason, his crew and subcontractors was very pleasant. Through the process my wife and I kept commenting that we made a great choice with FBT. After two months, we are very satisfied with the work they did and would highly recommend FBT. Fantastic Job FBT! Thanks
Description of Work: FBT completely remodeled our kitchen and 1/2 bathroom. They also replaced our wood hallway floor with beautiful tile and replaced our ceiling light in our dining room. FBT gutted our kitchen down to the studs and removed the wood floor. They removed our hallway closet, opening up our kitchen tremendously. During the kitchen demolition phase, FBT discovered several issues that needed to be resolved. The corner of the closet had a minor load bearing stud. Also they discovered drain pipes in the kitchen ceiling bulkhead. When removing the closet, FBT needed to reroute the heating/air conditioning duct work. In these situations Frank and Jason kept us informed of the issues, providing us options to resolve the issues. For the load bearing wall, FBT brought in a licensed Professional Engineer to provide a design to resolve the load bearing problem. The engineer showed up as scheduled and designed a solution that met our needs. FBT rerouted the drain pipes keeping our design in tact. FBT also rerouted the inefficient heating/ac duct work which immediately improved the hose's heating distribution. FBT installed the drywall (very quickly), placed the tile floor, installed beautiful and efficient cabinetry, installed fantastic lighting, a coffee station, and installed our new appliances. They also gutted our 1/2 bath, replacing the toilet and vanity, as well as installing the tile floor. It looks fantastic!

Excellent. All employees and owner that were involved in the project showed first rate professionalism and completed the work on budget on schedule. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Retiled bathroom shower floor including new shower pan
Jason and his crew did an excellent job. Julio, the lead installer, is just an amazingly conscientious guy. I made drawings of the bathroom layout and where I wanted everything, including measurements. Julio and I conferred every step of the way and worked out any glitches as the job progressed. All of the work was done in a meticulous way. FBT and their subcontractors provided most of the labor and I provided most of the items to be installed including vanity, vanity top, wall cabinet, vanity mirror, vanity lighting, under cabinet lighting, LED ceiling lights, ceiling exhaust heater/fan, duct grill, power outlet covers, switches, paint, and floating shower bench. I chose the plumbing, bathroom fixtures, and tile and FBT ordered them and made sure they were on site at the right time. Frank gave me a few excellent suggestions including a linear drain to span the entire back wall of my walk-in shower. Other contractors had proposed a smaller drain, but my experience since the installation indicates Frank was correct. Bottom line, FBT did an excellent job with few hiccups. Friends and family who have seen the bathroom just raved about it. Thanks again to Frank, Jason, and the whole FBT project team. I am very happy with the finished product.

Extremely pleased with our experience with FBT Tile & Marble. From the beginning our communication was very professional and very responsive. Our backsplash was a simple job, but it felt like Frank and his team took it as seriously as a bigger job. It was completed over a two-day period and everyone who came to our house was on time and professional. Everyone did their jobs perfectly. We are so pleased with the final product. We may be adding a bathroom to our basement and would definitely hire FBT Tile & Marble to handle that job.
FBT did a complete renovation on my master bathroom several years ago, and my review for that job was posted here on Angie's List on 12/7/2014. It is still available if you'd like to read it. After that experience, I had no hesitation to hire FBT again when I needed some work done in my kitchen. I have granite countertops and when they were first installed, a standard 4 inch granite backsplash was used. I wanted to replace the original backplash with marble tile from the surface of the countertop to the bottom edge of my upper cabinets. The only problem was that the original backplash was also installed on the side of the cabinet that holds my refrigerator and also the one that holds my pantry pull outs. I I did not want the tile to be installed on the sides of these cabinets - only on the drywall at the back edge of the countertop. It was quite apparent that the sides of these cabinets were going to be damaged when the old granite was pulled off and I didn't want to buy a new pantry or fridge cabinet - they are super expensive! FBT had a great, cost-effective solution: they ordered a matching skin from the original cabinet fabricator and installed that over the entire side surfaces of the pantry and fridge cabinets, after the old backsplash was removed. They added a bit of trim and when they were done, you would never know that the cabinets had been altered it in any way. Plus, my backsplash looks great! They also replaced all of the toe-kicks on the cabinets and you can't tell that they aren't original. I have attached before and after photos of one side of the room for reference. As always, every single person from FBT who came to my house was extremely professional and highly skilled. I have recommended them to everyone I know over the last few years, and I have several friends who have hired them, with always the same exact experience that I have had with both of the projects FBT has completed for me. I am looking forward to my next one already!

This is in response to the company's false statement and baseless accusations. Unlike their installer, we are civilized and educated people and do not use foul language. The company owner who tried to act as a professional showed his true colors when he wrote his commenrt in response to our review. It tells Homeowners what kind of people you will be dealing with. Please read the email thread below between the homeowner and the company owner. It speaks for itself. For privacy reason, the only thing that was omitted is the homeowners names and email addresses. I need to speak to Jason when I get into the office this morning for our meeting and get a little more information about what happened. Charlie is an incredible installer and normally clients are extremely happy with his work. I will speak to Charlie about what happened today. Jason is also a great project manager and I can't remember the last time anyone had an issue with him. I believe he spent an hour or so at your project helping Charlie set the hearth. He has many jobs to visit in one day and spent a good deal of time at yours. I also believe he was always very responsive to your phone calls and emails. I will have to get more information from Jason about the hearth being measured incorrectly. I did go through all of your and Jason's emails back and forth to get a better idea of the issue since I have not spoken to Jason yet. It seem like you purchased the tile and had it delivered to your house. I do know that we had our driver run around trying to get the materials for you last week but got the run around from the vendor you selected. It looks like you then were able to have the vendor deliver it to your house. This is not a vendor that we use and that can be a problem if we do not know what to expect from them. Typically we only work with our preferred vendors for this very reason and will let the client provide the tile or stone if they choose someone else. Also, the stone slab was not selected from a vendor of ours but we picked it up and delivered it to your home. I do not think there was a charge to you for us picking up these items. I do understand that we were not able to get the ledger stone because of the issue we had with the vendor you selected. I assume you were told by Jason that it would take one day to install? I do know we have a policy that we do not guarantee finish dates, only start dates. So I am surprised he would tell you that. It is even on the bottom of all of our proposals. We do sometimes let the client know that we will try to finish by a certain date or time but we cannot guarantee it. It does look like they should be able to finish with no problem today. If you would like, I can send a different installer but that may cause more issues having someone come in on a job that has been started by someone else but I am willing to do that if your would like. I am very sorry that this project took longer than you expected. If a discount of $200.00 will help I would like to offer this to you for having to take a second day off so we can finish. If you would like, I can give you a call to discuss further. From measurement to installation, the crew to include your supervisor, more than anyone else, displayed lack of professionalism and work ethics I have never seen before. The hearth wasn’t measured right to be centered around the opening of the fireplace. The installer had to put another layer inside the opening to make it look even on both sides while he was complaining all day long about Jason and the fact that he had assumed he will finish in one day. I also asked Jason to order extra cases when he measured because as you know with natural stone, some pieces may be damaged or non-matching. When we started sorting out the pieces this morning, he said we barely have enough! Add to all that, the installer argued with the female employee all day almost about everything. I really felt sorry for her because I must acknowledge she was kind and hardworking. When I called Jason, the supervisor, later on this afternoon, I asked him if could stop by or find out where the installer went, his usual response was he wouldn’t be able to come back this afternoon. Usually supervisors check on their employees at least twice a day. I am not sure if this has to do with the fact that this is a small job and he is not interested or what the issue is. If the latter is the case, he should have told us from the very beginning and we could have hired another company. According to what I have read online, your company prides itself on providing great customer service. I can tell for sure that my wife and I have experienced the worst customer service ever. We have owned and remodeled three homes over the past two decades and we’ve never experienced this kind of customer service. It is disappointing. We just want this job completed by end of day tomorrow. From my experience, this small job shouldn’t take more than one day. Below is a photo of what they have accomplished today working from 9 to 4 to include the hour plus for lunch. Not too long ago, we hired American Windows & Siding to perform two cutouts and install two windows. They worked from 7:00 am until 8:00 pm to finish the job in one day as they promised. This is what I call customer service. In any case, we kindly ask you to have this job completed and done properly by tomorrow because I simply cannot take another day off and we have inspection scheduled Wednesday morning. Thank you.

Response from FBT Tile & Marble Inc
Job was completed in two days and looks beautiful! This customer had a personality conflict with our installer which we regret. You can look through all of our reviews on Angie's List and see other customers that have dealt with this installer and are extremely happy with him and his work. We have hundreds of glowing reviews that are a good representation our how FBT does business.
More than anything I wanted to give this company a good review. In fact I don't think I've ever written a bad review before. Let's begin with the good part- 1. Everyone was friendly. I did feel that they could be trusted in my home in terms of not taking anything etc. 2. The painter did a really good job. 3. They did take the time to repair some marks made in the hallway and paint. 4. They did a good job laying a herringbone pattern on the floor. (But some sloppy grout work in some places as well as several scratches made by the workers on the marble some buffer out after but several remain) The not so good... 1. Lead up to the job was poor. I waited to hear from someone up until a few days prior to the start date I had been given. I did not receive any communication after making the initial deposit in regards to what to expect at the beginning of the project, how to prepare, how to help accomoate them so that the project goes smoothly etc. when I called they were not going to be ready to start. More notice would have been nice but I accepted that and we moved the date forward. Not that big of a deal until it all played out. 2. The first day a man arrived. I did not understand his job title but looking back he must have been the plumber. He was friendly. Day two, two different men arrived. I had not yet seen a project manager nor had I heard from one. 3. They did a general clean up every day. By the end of the job my garage was covered in dust which could have been controlled by some plastic. The same with the bathroom. I had to do regular heavy cleaning throughout and ended up hiring cleaners at the end to clean the blinds etc 4. There were lots of details not attended to. Caulking that was not complete on the sink basins. A large gap between the console and the floor which could have been planned for better at the beginning of the project (all plans for the items as well as the console was shown to the company prior to estimating the job). They ultimately tried to fix the gap with additional wood work that I'm not a fan of but didn't feel I had any other choice. The paint on that additional wood work is not good and the caulking detached from the floor within a day. It also makes it less functional since the bottom part extends so far you end up hitting your feet against the vanity. 5. A list of many issues had been cordially delivered. Some of them repaired but not all. One being the carpet into the master bedroom. It had been folded back to complete the threshold and is permanently bent. They tried to fix it saying the carpet just needed to be stretched. In this process from slamming so hard there is now a crack in the drywall on the ceiling below in the great room. The carpet had a three fit long hump in it that is very visible. This will not be acceptable to have my home appraised or sold. 6. I thought that as soon as the tile in the shower went up they measured and ordered a glass door. I specified the door over the phone in the beginning. At the completion I asked how many more weeks it will take and I was told I didn't order a door and it wasn't apart of the estimate. This was a big Surprise I adjusted and ordered a door myself from another company but since that time delay was not able to use the shower for an additional month. 7. The tub was leaking after it was installed. The project manager eventually came to fix it. 8. On week three of the job once Thursday hit the crew left and never came back when not all of the work had been completed. I had to reach out with a list and ask them to come complete the work. Throughout the job I never really knew what was going on other than assumptions I made after what I saw at the end of the day. I would sometimes ask questions to try to gauge but did not wasn't to bother the workers so they could stay focused on the task at hand and get home to their families. Ultimately there was not a lot of extreme plumbing work. Just removal of a garden tub. Installation of a freestanding tub vanity and new marble in shower (laid in the same form as was prior) and floor. Radiant heating was laid in parts of the bathroom under the tile. Some other items were done at my request such as the lights moved once I realized they were not in alignment with the new vanity. Then they were not lined up well (which was fixed at my request). After reading so many positive reviews I assumed that attention to detail would be present and for the price I was paying that there would be someone working on my behalf to make sure things were in order rather than my having to follow up on the items. I felt that their pricing was pretty high for the area and the work involved. I paid roughly 16k in labor alone. I was made aware of some issues within the company that played into this and while I am sympathetic I do not believe it is ethical or fair that it be at my expense. All of the people in my home (that I am aware of) were tipped well. I think one day in a full three weeks did I see them work a full 8 hours (when the project seemed to be going over) and it seems they spent a a lot of time parked outside my home in the morning waiting for a project manager. At the end of the day my bathroom looks nice. There are things that I have fixed myself. My carpet is not in acceptable shape now nor do I believe the work matches the financial output for this job. Hoping that other clients have not had the same experience. It could be that they are more experienced at working with different materials or that the project was more than what they need to tackle on average but I did not get that impression from their website and reviews. Best of luck to anyone looking for a reliable contractor.

Response from FBT Tile & Marble Inc
This customer contacted us and asked us to fit her into our very tight schedule. She needed her bathroom done "right away". We told her we could but we would not be there every day working because this was an emergency job that we were fitting in to help her out. She then canceled after giving us a deposit. I did not take a fee and gave her the deposit back. I then got a call about a week later from her saying she did want to move forward. Again, we went out of our way to fit her into our schedule. She supplied all of her own materials for us to install (We do not like to do a remodel this way because the quality of the items provided were very poor) We had to come back to fix the tub that was leaking because of a faulty fitting that was provided to us by the customer. All of the complaints this customers has is because of the material she provided. The crease in the 20 year old carpet was existing. We worked very hard to resolve all of the issues we ran into with the owner supplied, poor quality materials. As for the shower door, It clearly states in our contracts and we let the customer know the shower door will take up to 10 working days once measured to install. I am not sure why this customer was surprised. At the end of the project this customer was very happy and in fact tipped all of our employees and thanking them for the great work they did. I am not sure why we are getting this review 6 months later with all these complaints.
