We've used Windows on Washington twice and been impressed by the quality of the workmanship and customer service on both occasions. Our windows look great, the external and internal trim looks far better than what we had before, and they cleaned thoroughly each time. The price was more than I'd hoped to pay but comparable to estimates we received from Home Depot and others. While the crew was on time during our second install, we did experience a delay of a few hours the first time. Since the crew called ahead to let us know, it was minimally burdensome.

We now have all new windows (25!); purchased and installed by Windows on Washington. After interviewing three different companies, it really wasn?t too hard a choice. All three of these companies had good ratings and reviews on Angie?s List. (Thank you everyone!) However, after listening to the first two, very lengthy sales pitches with hard sales-tactics, we were ready for some serious straight talk when Eric Novotny of Windows on Washington came to see us. That?s just the way Eric laid out his company?s products and services?simple and to the point. The windows are made by Okna; a company out of Pennsylvania. We?ve never heard of this manufacturer before and with all our doubts, Eric was solid on his responses to our questions. What made Eric different from the other salesmen was his many years and obvious knowledge in energy audits and energy conservation! Finally, someone who could talk to us about all our energy concerns?not just new windows! He also made some very good suggestions on our distinctly different master bath windows that saved us money. First, John, the installation team foreman, came to our home to measure. Not all that simple with a two story picture window over our front door! When the day of installation came, he was well aware of the job. He came with a team of three other men. One gentleman laid down canvas drop cloths throughout our home. At the end of the day, I came home to find this same man diligently vacuuming all around the rug to make sure he picked up every little piece of installation refuge. The team worked well and long?12 hours and before they left, they made sure my husband checked every window to his satisfaction, as well as educate him on a few details that a new user may not know. Without a doubt, we highly recommend Windows on Washington.

First, the sale was no-pressure. Rare in this business. They know the business and products and helped us decide on brand. Again, no pressure, but the okna brand is such a good looking window, it sold itself. Estimate was quick. We had braced ourselves for not liking something after the installation - we're picky, and we do a fair amount of work on our home ourselves, including carpentry. We're still pleasantly surprised - there isn't a thing we don't like. The windows are slim, elegant and easy to open- literally gorgeous. They are amazing at blocking noise and drafts. The installation was expert, to say the least, and the installers were pleasant and cleaned up afterwards. We're having them back out to replace a french door next. We just can't say enough good things about them. We've had plenty of rain since installation - and not a single leak. Maybe you can buy another brand of vinyl window for a little less - but you have to look at Okna. They're slim - nothing about them says "replacement window". So glad we did it!
Description of Work: Installed 23 vinyl replacement windows (Okna brand) in a two story house, and clad the exterior trim in vinyl. Also did some expert work cutting and trimming two transom windows, changing them from half moon to square, since the original wood trim was half moon. Installation was completed in one day.

Fantastic windows! Great metal hardware and excellent U-factor. Windows on Washington was very accommodating of our needs and scheduling. John, our rep, went out of his way to find coil trim that would match our existing paint. I was hesitant to purchase new windows based on all of the horror stories that I have read about and the pseudo science that many window manufacturers tout. I am so happy that I went with these windows and this installer. From start to finish, the whole process was exceptional. I look forward to replacing the remainder of the windows in my house with these windows in the future.

I contacted a number of window replacement companies and received rough estimates over the phone. Windows on Washington gave me the best price on my large sliding glass doors and competitive prices on the windows. When I visited them to check out their products, I found that they had given me a price over the phone for a smaller, cheaper door unit. Even so, John Baker stood by the price for the doors I actually needed. The other prices were very competitive and I liked the relaxed no-nonsense approach that John offered. Although they were busy trying to get as many windows in as possible before the end of the year, John agreed to schedule my installation on Dec 21st. As luck would have it,we had two feet of snow on the ground that day and had to cancel. However, to make sure that they could install enough to satisfy the tax credit provisions for 2009, the crew came out a few days later, on Christmas Eve, and worked all day in very cold weather to install the three large sliding glass doors. Two weeks later we scheduled the second phase, and they installed all the windows and the other doors, also working in weather that was windy and well below freezing. In both cases, the crew took their time and did a superbly professional job despite the unpleasant conditions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to my friends and, in fact, have already done so!
Description of Work: This house was built in the late 1970s with aluminum windows and doors, and most of the double-pane glass seals had failed. They replaced three nine-foot sliding glass doors, two six-foot sliding glass doors and ten windows with double-pane, argon-filled, vinyl units that meet all the qualifications for a tax credit.

From the beginning things seemed right with Windows on Washington. Eric Novotny was fantastic to work with and he helped us work through all of our decisions. You can tell this is his area of expertise and he loves it. We started by choosing our windows and style for the replacement. Everything was ordered and we were ready for install soon after. The install crew were relatively quick in a project that seemed to complicated and they made it look easy. Now that it is all done, as I said before, we are very happy with the whole process and would recommend this company again. Don't be fooled by other discount window guys, our neighbors went with another company to save a little money and are still dealing with problems. Thanks WOW for improving our quality of living.
Description of Work: Windows on Washington performed a full vinyl window replacement in my home. Our house had wood windows and my wife and I just could not take the sticking and unreliable operation anymore. We found WOW through a few references and listed on Angie's List. We are extremely happy with the product that we received from picking out our new window style to the ease and quality of installation. It looks like they were always there.

I found Windows on Washington on one of the internet discussion boards and met them at the Capital Home Show. I have a southwest facing house which gets the full effect of the afternoon sun and I always had to keep the roller shades down to keep the front rooms from baking. Bob and John were both knowledgeable and informative, and after seeing the rooms for himself, Bob recommended triple glazed, low-e with argon windows in the front. I asked a lot of questions, including walking through the details of a typical install and what kind of materials and technique they use. Bob answered all my answers and provided any information I asked for -- window specifications, warranty information, maintenance requirement, etc. The windows they recommended were highly energy efficient and good looking. I was glad to get the triple paned as recommended. The front rooms were noticeably cooler immediately and I no longer need the roller shades, even on the brightest of days. A wonderful side effect is my front rooms are entirely lit by natural light during the day now. The only hiccup was there was a defective sash and it's taking a bit of time to get it replaced. Bob can be forgetful sometimes and that has caused some unnecessary delays. Notwithstanding the delays, this is a good company that will take care of its customers.

I met John Baker of Windows on Washington at the Home Show held at the Dulles Expo Center in 2008. After talking with him and being impressed with the info he provided me regarding the various windows sold by his company, I scheduled an appointed. When he came to my house, he brought samples of the two windows I told him I was interested in and spent time with me explaining the differences. I obtained price quotes from two other companies and went back to see John at their showroom. (Note: During the few weeks when I was getting additional quotes, I sent John numerous emails asking additional questions regarding the windows, labor, supplies, etc. He always responded either via email or phone call the next day.) When I told John that his company had the best price on one of the windows but was alittle higher on the other, he agreed to lower his price to match the other company. I signed the contract and the installers arrived on the date agreed upon, even calling in advance to confirm date and time. They were nice, quick, and good at their work. I liked John and his installers so much that I am going back before the end of this month to see what they offer in sliding glass doors.

Windows On Washington's Bob Novotny came to our home to do an estimate. He came on time and was personable and professional. He evaluated our situation, and recommended a solution. Bob was happy to quote just the three windows we wanted and not the whole house. This was a striking difference from other vendors, who acted insulted or extremely disappointed when we asked for only 3 windows to be quoted. Bob's recommended solution fit our needs, and we are very satisfied with the installed windows. Installation was a bit more challenging than the quoting process. Despite clear instructions, the installer didn't really listen to my wife who was trying to coordinate a plumber and the window installation. As a result, the window guy spent time working on the window over the sink when the plumber needed to be there. It all worked out in the end, but it would have been nice if the window installer could have coordinated a bit better. There was another minor issue, but that was primarily because I was not able to be at the installation to help the installer understand what I was looking for. As for price, the entire industry seems to be a bit non-transparent on pricing. It is never clear whether one window is enough superior to another to earn a higher price, and I think that I probably paid more/window than strictly necessary. However Windows On Washington performed well, and maintain a great reputation. Sometimes you have to pay a little extra to make sure the product is installed right, and by a reputable contractor. Overall, we are extremely happy with the new windows, and anticipate using Windows On Washington for more windows in our home.

I must admit that I was somewhat nervous entering this process. Home improvement projects are not my strong suit and you hear horror stories from time to time. Windows on Washington was great from start to finish. Eric educated me on the project, what I needed and what I didn't for that matter. They were the first company that I met with and his estimate and information highlighted all the misinformation in the other estimates that followed. Couple that with their more competitive price and the decision was and easy one. The work was fantastic and completed in less than a day (window replacement, siding repairs, and roof repairs). His crew was very clean and did really top notch work. They even went as far to help a neighbor with a window that wouldn't shut and "re-seated" into the tracks for nothing.
Description of Work: The windows in my home were not functional and horribly energy inefficient. We had them replaced with insulated windows, repaired some wood rot, repaired some vinyl siding and had a couple of roof issues corrected.

John Baker, one of the owners, came to provide me with a quote on replacement of most of my homes' windows. He was extremely professional, answered all of my questions about the U factor and other critical energy saving issues and reviewed all of the materials carefully with me. The cost was extremely competitive with the other 2 companies that I contacted, and I also very much appreciated how long they have been in business, that they are local, and that the comments on Angie's List were so positive about their crews for installation and clean up. All that said, we have chosen another company from Angie's List to do the work because the windows have a few additional features that we really liked. However, I would not hesitate to contact Windows on Washington to have them do other work, and have actually asked Mr. Baker to provide me with a quote on non-window work.

Fantastic. Eric, the Windows on Washington rep, was very thorough and explained everything to me in detail. Being my first experience at managing a construction undertaking, I had several questions and he gladly went through all of my concerns and addressed them one by one. The goal of this project was to increase the overall energy efficiency of my home while replacing the outdated windows with new and attractive replacements. I noticed an immediate difference in the comfortableness of my home after the windows were completed. Eric was kind enough to do a complete walk through of my home and address the several areas that were hindering the energy efficiency. My Air Conditioning seems to be running about half the time that it did prior to this project. As an added bonus, my new windows are 10-times more soundproof, which I love!!! The crew was very courteous and skilled. They cleaned up the work area spotlessly and left the home clean.
Description of Work: I had the 30 year old windows in my home replaced with new energy efficient windows. There was also some rotten wood around some of the windows and that was replaced prior to the finish trim work. Windows on Washington also repaired some areas that were poorly finished by a previous contractor.

We are very happy with the job this company has done. The father and son team, Bob and Eric, are great to work with! They were among the first to email me a preliminary quote without a house visit. Then Bob came over to our house to take a look and present the window brands the company carries. He was very honest, there was no pressure to buy and no pushing expensive brands, and he even recommended that we don't replace windows in our basement, because that wouldn't provide significant energy savings. Eric was very helpful, and went out of his way to look for special insect screening material for me. The technician came for measurements within days of order. They promised windows 2 weeks after measurements, and delivered. The crew leader, Yang, was very competent. The crew had the work done in about 3 hours, including clean-up. They did a good job. The quality of the windows is very good for their price range. Overall, a very satisfactory experience.

Excellent. From initial estimate to the completion of the work, they were fantastic and I was surprisingly pleased every step of the way. I was nervous about getting estimates for replacing my windows due to the horror stories you sometimes hear about home improvement companies, but I was immediately put at ease after meeting John and other company employees. Their very low-pressure sales approach was a welcome change in contrast to the other three-hour estimates I had gotten where I actually had to ask sales people to the leave. John didn't try to sell me options that I didn't need and actually took the time to educate me on replacement windows and how my money was most wisely spent. I wound up spending around $5000.00 less than other companies had tried to charge me and in some cases, for the exact same product. Their installation crew was very courteous and completed the installation by meticulously cleaning up the entire work area. Great workmanship.
Description of Work: Windows on Washington replaced all of the windows in my home in addition to doing some carpentry work. I previously had original double-hung windows that were inoperable, drafty, and aesthetically unappealing. The new windows were an immediate improvement and I was amazed how much more comfortable the home was almost instantaneously. Windows on Washington was also helpful enough to address some problem areas on the exterior of my home that were responsible for water leaks. These problems were noted initially during the estimate and further exposed during the removal of the old windows. They were very concise and clear in their explanations of the problems so that I could visually see and understand what the problem areas were and what the proper solutions were. They corrected the issues with the exterior and replaced all of the damaged wood and framing prior to the installation of the new windows.

It was great. Eric helped me out when no one else would. I contacted a number of companies about my leaking window and few were willing to take the job unless I was buying replacement windows from them, which I knew I didn't need. My windows are relatively new (one year) but the previous installer (for previous owners) did sloppy work. Eric was incredibly helpful. He sent an installer who evaluated our problem and made the repairs. Eric called me and walked me through the diagnosis and repair in easy to understand language. The work was completed on-time and as promised.

Very well. A representative gave us a home visit with a sample window. He forgot the color samples but we were told we could make the decision at the next visit when they came to measure. He was punctual on both the first visit and the visit to measure windows. Knowledgeable, professional. The windows were installed and very little mess was left. I did clean the windows with a little glass cleaner and there was a very small bit of caulk-looking debris left for us to vacuum. They were about an hour late on the day of the installation but other than that, all went well. The windows were very similar to what we saw at Home Depot and another contractor, but far less expensive for product and labor.

John showed up on time for the sales call. They looked like decent, cheap windows. Approximately one week later, I called to contract with them. John missed the appointment. John was late for the second appointment. We finally signed a contract, which was a mistake. On three separate occasions, John failed to drop off the color samples for the trim coil, so I could pick a color. Jose missed two appointments to measure my windows, never calling that he would not be there. He was three hours late to the third appointment. Finally, installation was scheduled. Jose failed to show up on time the morning of the installation. He failed to call. He finally showed up five hours late. Because of this, the install ran from Saturday into Sunday. He showed up late on Sunday. He failed to call. The owner, Eric Novotny did not take responsibility for his staff's poor treatment of me. The quality of the work was poor, much of the caulk cracked, one window needed to be reinstalled.

Response from Windows on Washington
WINDOWS ON WASHINGTON OFFERS A VARIETY OF WINDOW LINES AND PRODUCTS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR CUSTOMERS. IN THIS CASE, THAT WAS THE REPLACEMENT OF ORIGINAL CONSTRUCTION WINDOWS THAT WERE FAILING SO THAT THE HOME COULD BE SOLD. THERE WERE NO MISSED APPOINTMENTS TO PICK UP THE CONTRACT AND SPECIFIC APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT MADE TO DROP OFF TRIM COIL COLOR PALETTES. THE COLOR PALETTES ARE PLACED IN THE CUSTOMER’S MAILBOX AND WE ASK THAT THE CUSTOMER NOTIFY US 2 DAYS BEFORE INSTALLATION OF THEIR CHOICE. A VEHICLE BREAKDOWN DELAYED THE START TIME ON SATURDAY AND AS A COURTESY WORK WAS CONTINUED INTO SUNDAY. ONE WINDOW WAS CRACKED DURING SHIPMENT FROM THE FACTORY AND THE REPLACEMENT WAS ORDERED IMMEDIATELY AND INSTALLED UPON RECEIPT. THE CRACKS THAT WERE NOTICED WERE IN THE 20+ YEAR OLD STUCCO COATING AND THIS POTENTIAL FOR STUCCO FLAKING IS DISCUSSED WITH ALL CUSTOMERS TO WHOM IT MIGHT APPLY, HOWEVER, THE INSTALLER REPAIRED THE AFFECTED STUCCO FREE OF CHARGE AS A COURTESY. OWNERS HAVE TWO COURSES OF ACTION IN DEALING WITH PROBLEMS: PERSONALLY SEE TO THE PROBLEM AND OFFER A REIMBURSEMENT. THE OWNER WAS PERSONALLY INVOLVED VERY EARLY IN THE PROJECT AND THE CUSTOMER WAS EXTENDED A SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNT UPON PROJECT COMPLETION. AT WINDOWS ON WASHINGTON WE TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN THE QUALITY OF OUR WORK AND ALWAYS STRIVE FOR 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION.
