I started researching replacement windows about a month before I started shopping. I knew exactly what I wanted and was ready to purchase when I started calling for estimates. Most companies I called were happy to make the appointment, however several insisted that my husband be there. My husband could care less about the windows or the cost, as with most home projects I was the one making the final decisions. I was so tired of the "husband being at the appointment" business that the last several companies I called I never mentioned my husband. One company had the nerve to call back to confirm the appointment and said "By the way, real estate records indicate that there is another owner (my husband) on the deed, and asked if he would be at the estimate appointment. When I told them no, they asked to reschedule for another time when he could be there. I cancelled the appointment and told them to take me out of their customer database. I ended up scheduling eight companies ranging in size from local contractors to big box stores to come in and provide me with estimates on one Saturday. Some of the companies were hard sell, they reminded me of timeshare salespeople indicating they had a special going on that day, or checking with their manager to see if they could get me a lower price because they could see I was ready to purchase. That evening after getting the estimates, I got online to research the windows the companies presented. That is when I found an online community about windows and installations. The members ranged from contractors in the business to DIYers and were from all over the country. They were very knowledgeable and helpful about comparing the windows that had been presented to me. One person recommended that I contact Windows on Washington because they were in my local area and had a very good reputation. I called them and made an appointment for an estimate. Eric Novotony, the owner of the company, came out to meet with me. Unlike all of the other companies that I spoke with earlier, Eric educated me about windows and energy savings and told me that the windows alone were not going to get me to the goal I wanted. He was not hard sell or even soft sell, he really wanted to provide me with enough information to make an informed decision...which is why I selected his company. In the end, not only did I have the ten windows installed, I had them perform an Air Sealing of my home. For both the Air Sealing and the windows, the workers arrived on time and were very polite and professional. The completed the job when they said they would and completely cleaned up after themselves. I would have never known they were there. I was and still am extremely pleased with the work performed and I just love my new windows. The best part is I'm noticing anywhere from a $50-$100 difference in my electric bills for the same months this and last year. Even my husband who is extremely skeptical mentioned last week during our heat wave that he noticed a big difference in the house temperature when compared to last year. I highly recommend Windows On Washington for your window, door, and energy saving needs!
Description of Work: Installed 10 new replacement windows and performed an air sealing which included new insulation in the attic and garage and the walls between the garage and home.

That is fantastic news. I am very happy that you are enjoying a more comfortable and energy efficient home. We were happy to complete the project for you and more customers could take a cue from your approach to address the home as a system and not just examine one part of the equation. Please don't hesitate to call me with any questions and have a great summer.

This was the second time I have used Windows on Washington's services. The first, as you might expect was for Windows. This time, I asked them to Quote to replace my remaining windows (14), and insulate my attic. Eric came out, and updated my Window Quote, and then we spoke about insulation. Inspection of my attic revealed that my insulation was a bit worse than I had thought, and that I had almost nothing blocking airflow from my home into my attic. After looking around Eric gave me a quote to raise my insulation to approximately R-50 (in the attic), add soffit baffles, air seal all air gaps in the attic, and air seal the sill plates in the basement. I told him that I could only afford to do one project in the fall, and that I had thought the windows might be a better investment. Eric actually recommended I get the insulation, despite the fact the window project was worth more that $4000 more than the insulation. He explained his reasoning thoroughly, and it corresponded very well with information that I had read on-line. I took his advice, and Windows on Washington did my insulation. I couldn't be more pleased. Temperatures in my house are vastly more stable, and the amount of draftiness has dropped dramatically. Although it is impossible to compare my home energy bills one for one, before and after (due to weather variations), I would say that on the whole, my heating and air conditioning costs have been substantially reduced. Only time will tell, but I'm optimistic The installation was smooth, and on-time. The crew did a great job, and left no mess. I am very pleased with the results. I have and will in the future recommend Windows on Washington for insulation as well as windows.
Description of Work: The attic was Air Sealed and Insulated, and the Basement Sill was insulated.

I have used Windows On Washington three times now, and each experience has been great! This time, Eric, John and Jose quoted, scheduled and installed the replacement of my Bathroom Window, as part of a full bath remodel. It must be noted, that Windows on Washington is one of the few companies I have been able to find that are willing to do just ONE window. I can't overstate how valuable this is to me as a DIY remodeler. I simply cannot afford to chunk out a huge amount of cash to do ALL my windows, and the Windows on Washington folks are more than willing to come out and do as many or as few as I wish, without pressuring me in any way to do work I am not prepared to do. Eric quotes me what I ask for, and then the company comes out and installs it with no hassle. This time, Eric quoted me a nice OKNA window with privacy glass for my Bathroom remodel. Jose came out to install it, and we discovered that the Window Frame was racked, and the new window wouldn't fit properly. With just a simple phone call, and a slight reschedule, Jose was able to come back, fix the frame, and properly install and trim the new window. It looks great, and as a side benefit, at least one part of my 1970's house is square and plumb. Their quality of workmanship is outstanding, their prices are very competetive and the quality of the windows is wonderful. The OKNAs hands down beat any window for fit and finish that I have seen sold at the Big Box Home Improvement stores, and most of the brands I have seen at any of the Washington Home Improvement Exhibitions. This window is no exception! It looks fantastic, and I expect it will perform as well as it looks. In short, Windows on Washington is an excellent company to work with. They do what they say they'll do, and they charge what they say they'll charge. They are flexible, friendly, and don't pressure you to buy things you don't need. I would (and have) recommended these folks to my friends, family, and co-workers.
Description of Work: My Bathroom Window was replaced as part of a full bathroom remodel. I replaced a 34 year old wood framed single pane window with a brand new Okna Vinyl high performance window. In addition, some window frame straightening was required and subsequently performed by the installer.

They were very professional. They emailed the quote after they came - it was nice. Their quote was one of the most specific in terms of all the charges, which I liked. Also, it was one of the most expensive estimates that I received, so I decided not to go with them. They were short and sweet and did not pitch for extra sales. I guess I would consider using them in the future if I wanted the particular window that they were offering.

Excellent all around. Eric is extremely knowledgable and helpful in the estimate process. Also doesn't try to oversell you at all. I found the guys from Anderson windows were putting on much more of a show. The windows are fantastic and reduce noise and make the envelope of the house much tighter. I am very pleased with the overall experience and will be certain to use them again. The crew was incredibly courteous and very clean in their installation of the windows. Cleaner than any other contractors I've had in my house. It is a very easy decision to go with Windows on Washington if you are looking for high quality windows.

Brandon, the salesperson, was great. There was no pressure to sign a contract and he was very knowledgeable about their products. I was considering replacing a large picture window/double hung window combo with a 3 lite sliding window. Brandon gave me very helpful advice about why that might not be a good idea. The appointment to measure for the windows went smoothly. The person who measured also tested the existing windows for lead to determine whether or not we needed to do a lead-safe removal since our house was built in 1971. The tests were negative for lead. Our original installation date was April 5th which was 48 days after we signed the contract. Unfortunately that date was stormy and they weren't able to reschedule us until 11 days later. That day also turned out to be stormy. This time we were rescheduled for 5 days later. My only complaint in my dealings with the company was that they weren't able to reschedule us more quickly the first time the job was rained out. I understand that they can't control the weather, but it was disappointing to have to wait 11 days. I was trying to coordinate the window installation with a kitchen remodel. On the original April 5th install date that was rained out, the installers did come out and install 2 of the windows for me in the kitchen so as not to interfere with the kitchen remodel. I really appreciated that they were willing to come the whole way out and take care of those even though it was bad weather. Jose was the lead installer when our job was completed on April 21st and 22nd. He and his crew did a great job. They were very neat and courteous and they did a great job installing the windows. When the job was complete, Jose went around to every window with us to check the installation and the operation of the window. He reviewed how to lean the windows in for cleaning and how to properly close them to ensure they are locked. The windows look fabulous from the inside and outside. We are very pleased with the Okna windows and the installation job done by Windows on Washington.
Description of Work: They replaced 22 windows in my home. Nineteen were double hung windows, 2 were picture windows and 1 was a casement window. The windows purchased were Okna 500 series.

First of all, even if you don't end up replacing your windows with Eric, he is worth speaking to because he is so knowledgeable. There is absolutely no component of the hard sell when you deal with him. In terms of the the window replacements, he did a great job, the replacements made a huge difference in the feel of the room. They worked very quickly, and were very clean. Eric even came back to address nit picky concerns of mine. Keep in mind in terms of timing, that it takes quite a bit of time for your windows to be made. Windows on Washington does not have control of this, and this depends upon the manufacturer. Eric also performed an energy audit, and made recommendations in terms of sealing. This was also done meticulously, and made a huge difference in the overall draftiness of the home. No idea how much energy savings it will yield, since this is the first year I lived in my home, but I have to assume there is a big difference if I can feel it so dramatically. In the near future, I will replace the remainder of the windows, and without a doubt will use Windows on Washington again.

I was referred to WoW by a friend. The initial estimate phase was a pleasure. Zach Wince was very technical in explaining what the new windows would do and look like, while at the same time, not sounding like a used-car salesman. The rest of the experience with WoW also proceeded smoothly, with two exceptions. First, Zach was not very responsive to emails. Often times, I had to send him a reminder after a week of not hearing from him. Second, their windows do take a while to arrive (about 6 weeks in my case). I'm not sure if this is the production process or because Zach didn't put the oprder through fast enough. In any case, when they did arrive and were installed, they looked very good. The contact people in the office (the Nowotny family) were very responsive and helped a lot. I would definitely use their service again.

Overall very well. One very minor problem was before installing shielding the installer showed me the shielding on outside of window that they thought was the color chosen. It was not. Installer came back the next day and installed correct color shielding. Would definitely use again. Have referred another home owner to the company.
Everything went great. Removed old windows and doors and installed new ones in one day. Worked quickly, but trimming and finish work was very neat. New windows and doors still work and look great even though it has been over a year. House is much warmer too. We worked with Eric and John. Both very nice and patient with all of my questions.

I had previously received a quote from The Window Man, who were recommened by my parents. The person that came to quote said they tested for lead before they came to ring my door bell, and found lead. Due to the fact that they 'found' lead, this resulted in a quote of over $7500 for 10 Softlite Elements windows. I put in a request for quote on WoW website. Eric called me the same and and he came to my house same day as i contacted him. he provided me an estimate within 30 minutes. He also tested for lead in my presence with multiple tests, and no lead was found. With 1 additional window then Window Man quoted, along with upgrading one window from a picture window to a slider, WoW was just about $1000 less for Okna Envirostar windows. After researching, i found that the Okna were equivalent ratings wise to the SofLite Elements. Unfortunately my first installation date had to be rescheduled as one of the workers was sick. Once final installation date came, 5 men showed up. They laid moving blankets down throughout the house so as not to get the carpet dirty. They were able to install all 11 windows in about 4 hours. This included 2 windows that were full tearouts (including 1 6'x6' bow window which was replaced by (2) double hungs). They foamed in all openins, and did an excellent job fabricating all of the outside aluminum trim. they also did an excellent job caulking inside and outside on all windows. I would highly recommend Windows On Washington for replacement windows. And i would highly recommend the Okna Envirostar windows.

Their prices seem to be ok; not great, but ok. They were recommended by my remodelers and that is why we asked them for an estimate. There was nothing that particularly stood out to me. I couldn't find any fault with it, but we are having another massive project done right now and it is going to have to wait. They only carry two types of windows and the difference between them was $30.00. When you are doing 20 or windows that adds up. We haven't done enough research to know if the industry only has those two windows.

[Amended at bottom] Original point of contact for quotes was in late July. A contract was signed for the work on August 3rd and I was told it would take three weeks for the windows to get in, at which point they could schedule the installation. Four weeks later, I had to call the company multiple times to find out if the windows were in and schedule the installation. One week later, the installation was done for 18 of the 20 windows. The craftsmanship on the installed windows was spectacular. The 'removed' windows were done hastily, and the workers acted as if they were unaware that was part of the expected job. IT was these employees that told me about the damage to the roof and side of the house. Multiple phone calls to the company rep took weeks to get someone to look at the damage and provide new estimates for the additional work. Once this was finally done it took another month to get the scheduled work to occur. Again, I was very happy with the work that was done, and with the worker's ability to address issues as they occurred. I was happy with the craftsmanship shown, and at the price provided, but found it very difficult to get ahold of individuals to address scheduling after the initial price estimate and am upset that what this company was able to do in three days of work took nearly 3 months from start to finish. [Amended] I spoke to a rep at the company, who was able to further clarify and explain some of the situations that resulted in the long time frame from start to completion. While I am/was still frustrated with the long period from start to completion, it is important to note that it was done on extra repair work that was unexpected, and that the time difference were in part because a) their usual sub for roofing work wanted to charge more than expected for the little amount of work and b) their backup was unavailable for some period of time, as well as uncooperative weather. The phone call from the company did a lot to assuage my concerns. I would have been happier had the communication been more open before the fact than after.
Description of Work: All windows (20) were replaced in the house with new vinyl windows. Three windows in the back room were walled off. 18 of the windows were done in one day, the next two were found to require significant extra work to the exterior wall of the house and required those repairs first. That resulted in minor roof repair, new boarding, new studs and framing in the wall, residing the wall and repair of other wet rotted pieces.

They actually were excellent. We shopped around. They are extremely price competitive and they actually came in under everyone else. The quality materials they recommended and the windows they had recommended were probably the best. Oak for Vinyl and Marvin for fiberglass was rated pretty well. The remaining was all their efficiency and everything else and they beat everyone else. That was very good. They were on time. When they were coming to do a measure, they were a little late. They called and said they were late, that's fine. They did all the right things. They were pretty willing to work for the situation. I would say they did a terrific job. The guys who came to install really took time and did a very cool job. They did a really great job. They were very helpful at every step. I will continue to use them in the future. The quality, material and the work was good.

We spoke to several companies and they were the only company which didn?t have a floating price. The price charged by a lot of the companies will be high while staring the job and then they will come down on their price every time they clear the work. They also give coupons. However, Windows on Washington gave us their best price. They did good work. They were straightforward and gave us what they promised. The crew that they sent for installing seemed to be very proficient, professional and timely. They did the work when they said they were going to. I would recommend them and would use their services again.

Fantastic! Personnel I did with were very pleasant and explained their windows competently. Their pricing was very completive with other companies (lower, actually). My wife and I believed we got a quality product at a fair price. The installation team was super! They knew their jobs and were very professional. Each of the team members knew how to install windows (5-7 years experience) and they worked very well together and quickly. They even figured out solutions to minor issues with our old window sills and did not charge me extra $$. My wife & I were both so impressed with the quality of the windows and the installation crew, that we even had windows & doors installed on another home we rent out. Both installations were finished in one day. I have no qualms about recommending them to anyone who asks and have even showed off our new windows to a prospective customer. It does make a difference to see the installed product on a home, including the trim work installed on the outside and then compare them with windows installed by other companies in the same neighborhood. My neighbors were also very impressed with the quality of the windows and the workmanship of the installers. I and my neighbors were very impressed with the quality of the outside trim (capping) work.

We've used Windows on Washington twice and been impressed by the quality of the workmanship and customer service on both occasions. Our windows look great, the external and internal trim looks far better than what we had before, and they cleaned thoroughly each time. The price was more than I'd hoped to pay but comparable to estimates we received from Home Depot and others. While the crew was on time during our second install, we did experience a delay of a few hours the first time. Since the crew called ahead to let us know, it was minimally burdensome.
Description of Work: Replacement of six old windows with new, energy-efficient windows and replacement of related trim
