This company and its employees were excellent! The windows are excellent quality, the staff is very professional and they stand behind their work 100%. I particularly like that they employ al of their contractors, no day laborers here! I wish every company did business like they do. I happened upon this company on a construction blog where numerous contractors and home builders highly suggested them. Glad I found them!

Quick summary: sales experience, install, and product installed were great. After sales support for an install problem was terrible. Two cancellations - one on a weekday I took off. BEWARE: warranty issues seem to be done "When we're back in the area" i.e. at their convenience, not yours. They did come and fix the issue correctly on the third appointment and did a good job. Original Review: I called WoW for two reasons. First were the reviews on Angies List. Second because they are one of the few in our area that carry the Okna windows line. The other Okna dealer in our area is not a company we want to deal with (and weren't not the only ones based on other AL reviews). The salesman, Brandon, was great and could talk the numbers. He knows the product specs well and I appreciate that. The quote process was low pressure and no BS. We purchased windows in our old home and it was a terrible experience getting quotes. We went with Okna 800 series windows. It took 2 mos or so for them to arrive and we got an install appointment about a week or so later. The crew showed up on time, protected our floors, moved quick, did great work. Everyone was polite and efficient. Each windows was cleaned inside and out which we appreciated. It was a chunk of change to drop on vinyl windows, but the house is noticeable tighter and quieter. The first night after the install we had stiff winds outside. Before the replacements we could feel the drafts and cold air flow through the house. With the new windows there isn't so much as a hint of air infiltration. Great windows, great install. FOLLOW-UP: Within 1 week of the install the casing WoW installed in our shower peeled due to moisture. The back band was not properly sealed, water infiltrated, and the wood/paper backing expanded causing separation. I contacted WoW to have them come out and fix this issue. This is probably a 30 min job tops. I was told they would get back to me once they could determine when their guy would be "back in the area". They contacted me a few days later and scheduled an appointment for Fri 3/21. I took off work that day and thankfully scheduled other contractors to make the best of my day off. The other contractors arrived on time, but about an hour before the WoW appointment their office called to cancel. They wanted to reschedule for another weekday but I explained that i'm not taking off any more work. A few days later they rescheduled for a time when they would be "back in the area again" - Sat 4/5 around 10am - 12pm. That appointment came and went and I got a call that afternoon at 4pm or so asking to reschedule again. At this point i'm going to fix it myself. I'm fortunate that I have the tools and skills to do this. Needless to say, i'm unimpressed with the after sales service. I paid for their top of the line windows and install and i'm upset. IMO it's how a company handles warranty issues - the stuff that comes right off the bottom line - that reveals how committed a company is to customer service. Update 2: WoW came out on the third appointment to fix the issue. The craftsman who came out arrived on time, took his time and did it right.
Description of Work: Installed 21 double hung and 3 basement hopper windows. Okna 800 Himarks all around, full screens.

It was good grade quality windows and workmanship and they did it all for $8000, and that was a better price than we ever received from anyone and it was quality windows. I liked their professionalism. They showed up on time whenever they came out to do measurements or estimates or whatever. They quoted a good price. Once they did the job, they realized that they were able to better the price that they originally gave us so we ended up paying less than we had actually contracted to pay. They worked very quickly and they cleaned up afterwards. They did everything that they said they were going to do at the time that they said they were going to do it.

The whole process went almost flawlessly. WoW goes into our top 5 home contractors ever (and we've used quite a few). We met with Brandon on the initial consult. He gave a knowledgeable and comprehensive presentation on their products. We weren't familiar with the product line (Okna), but after we did our research, we found that they produce a quality window. Brandon did not waste time bashing competitors (this was not our experience with other replacement window contractors). The installation was painless. The crew was efficient and clean. They finished the job in a day, and did such a good job cleaning up, you couldn't tell a major renovation had just been completed. There were no issues with window fit, because of the careful measurements that had been previously taken. We did have a small punch list that was promptly taken care. One sash had a tiny scratch in the glass, but WoW replaced it without issue. Our only minor complaint was that with how Okna packages the windows, we had several windows with scuff marks on the top horizontal surface of the lower sash. Since they weren't very noticeable and it didn't seem significant enough to replace the entire sash, we went with WoW's suggestion of using goof-off to remove the scuffs. This worked in removing the scuff, but left a haze instead. During this past summer, our electric bills have been ~20% lower. So far this winter, the house has been noticeably more comfortable.

The information and consultation that Eric provided allowed me to insulate the exterior wall of my bathroom using the best practices to achieve the highest possible R value with minimal air flow. I certainly would not have successfully completed my project without Eric's help.
Description of Work: Eric was extremely helpful with my insulation project. The project was extremely small and I had a very tight time frame. I had contacted several companies to see if they could fit the project in my 48 hour time frame and although none could fit it in Eric went above and beyond the rest and provided me with an array of information and knowledge. I responded to Eric on several occasions with a lot of questions and each time he quickly responded with detailed answers. It was clear that Eric was genuinely interested in my home being insulated as best as possible even if he did not financially benefit from it. I will definitely contract Windows on Washington for any of my upcoming projects that fall into their areas of service. Although my project was for my home my main responsibility at my job is hiring contractors and service companies. I have hired well over 600 companies after my interaction with Windows on Washington I can say they are in the top five percent of companies in terms of knowledge, trust, professionalism, and genuine concern for customers.

I wanted to love this company since it is so highly rated on Angies List. The company is located in Virginia, and we are in Maryland. I was concerned about that , but when I called to set up an appointment for an estimate, the office worker confirmed that they do cover our area. We are planning to replace all our windows. The sales rep called and we set up an appointment. He rescheduled once due to bad weather, which we certainly understood. When he came to the house, he was professional, provided us with information and brochures and answered all our questions. He did mention that the owner of the company is trying to expand his service area, which we didn't question, since he assured us they had done work in our area before. After the meeting, he promptly sent us a detailed estimate for replacing our windows, with two different options. He also sent a local address for us to drive by to see the quality of their work. We drove by the home and it looked fine. It wasn't the windows we were leaning towards, however, so we sent an email asking if he could provide any addresses for homes with the windows we preferred. We never heard back, and got busy with other acitivities. After about 6 weeks, I sent another email and never heard back. Finally I called the main office and found out that sales rep was no longer with the company. I left a message, and was assured that someone would get back to me within a couple days. I haven't heard back and it's been over a week. I guess I could call again, but my time is valuable! I've given them a couple chances and they haven't stepped up to the plate, so I have decided to go with another company. **I might consider using them in the future, if it appeared that they had become more responsive.

Thank you for your feedback and review. We are dealing with some transition here as a company (including an office and showroom move) and are trying hard to stay atop of all the customers and prospects that we are fielding. We have subsequently reached out to this client and spoken with her via phone on several occasions to relay our apologies for the missed communications on our end of things. She was very gracious to afford us some time to review this customer service oversight and we greatly appreciate her feedback, patience, and willingness to help us get better. In short, I'm not happy with my windows. I was very up front with Windows on Washington that I was only getting replacement windows to help with sound abatement. There is little to no change in the traffic I hear from the road behind my house with these new windows from my old windows. From the outside, it does not appear that the installers paid attention to detail and I have had two contractors say that the work looks very amateurish. I had very high expectations for this company and I'm so disappointed by these windows. I hate writing bad reviews and I try to choose companies here on Angie's List that are highly recommended so I won't have a negative experience. I decided to get my windows replaced after experiencing increased noise inside my home once my HOA removed several mature trees that buffered my house from a busy road. I interviewed five window companies and chose Windows on Washington based on Angie's List reviews and because I was impressed that the owner contributed to an online community about home repair and he appeared to be knowledgeable on noise abatement. Their estimate was by far the highest out of the five, but I felt confident hiring them based on their reputation. I initially spoke with them in mid-January and after gathering all the estimates and much consideration, including a energy audit that found my windows were all in fine condition and not leaking (although the owner of the company later told me some unspecified windows were leaking to try to sell me windows), in May, I decided to move forward with getting new windows because multiple sources had said surely the vinyl windows would block out more street noise than my original double-pane aluminum windows. The Windows on Washington salesman was squirmy about this point, although he did say that I wouldn't be able to hear people outside talking with the new windows and the installer assured me there would be a noticeable improvement. Anecdotal evidence from friends and neighbors also told me that replacing the windows would be the biggest bang for my buck for sound reduction. I live in a community with a strict HOA so I had to get the windows proposal approved first, Windows on Washington said that they were extremely familiar with filling out my HOA forms and they even had a copy of the form on their computer desktop. They were not at all helpful with filling out my HOA form and in retrospect, I think this should have given me pause and made me back out of this deal before I had signed the contract. In my HOA proposal I stated that the new windows would look as close to the original as possible, and I stressed this repeatedly to Windows on Washington - they needed to look almost as though I hadn't had the windows replaced from the outside of the home. The installers came promptly at the expected time/date. One of the guys told me there had been conversations with the salesman I had been dealing with about the trim and he had expected that we had been in touch. We hadn't - once I gave them the deposit, the salesman sent me a short email that basically said you won't be dealing with me anymore, goodbye. He gave me the name of the office manager and I talked to her a couple of times to get updates about the installation date. This was a huge investment/cost for me and I didn't feel taken care of throughout the process. The crew was here from about 9:30 to 6:30 and completed all 10 windows in one day. Once one of the windows was nearly installed downstairs and I could clearly hear the radio of the worker two flights up through the window, I knew that this had been a huge mistake. The new windows do absolutely nothing to reduce the noise entering my home from the busy road. I had told Windows on Washington from the very beginning that I was only getting new windows to help with noise reduction. From reading their reviews and seeing the advice from the owner on an online home improvement website, I truly believed that they were the good guys and would not steer me wrong if replacing the windows would not help. The salesman's initial response to my first inquiry to the company back in January was "I am very familiar with ways to reduce noise and will help come up with a reasonable plan once I see your situation." He recommended the replacement windows. No one promised me that my house would be soundproof, but I was assured that there would be a noticeable difference from my old windows and there is not. I have been in contact with the owner and he gave me a price reduction for a laminated coating that was added to the bedroom windows for extra noise reduction. I am not happy with these windows. From the inside, they look nice and they function. It remains to be seen whether they will reduce my heating/cooling costs, but that was not an issue for me. My only issue was noise. Toward the end of the install, I went outside to look around and saw the Windows on Washington crew had reinstalled one of my shutters so that it blocked my dryer vent by about an inch without consulting me. This makes me really question whether they knew what they were doing - surely this was in violation of a building/fire code and was just not a good/sensible thing to do. I asked them to move the shutter over, which they did, but they had cut the louvers on the vent in some hodgepodge makeshift solution. I asked them to replace the damaged louvers and the company took from 7/9 until the end of August to install replacements. I have had two local contractors at my house recently to get estimates for other exterior work on my house and both of them have pointed out several things that Windows on Washington could have done to make their work look more professional. First, they did not use screws that match the color of the trim or cover them with putty, the screws are metal and visible. Second, they screwed the shutters back on rather than using the original clips for the shutters - probably because this was easier for them. The screws are arranged in a shoddy, hodgepodge, fashion and again, no putty or paint was used to obscure them. The size of the trim work does not match the original appearance of my home and looks different from the other houses. The trim is probably twice as long as the original. These are cosmetic things, but all show a lack of attention to detail and care. The owner of a house a few doors down had her windows replaced and you cannot tell from the outside because that company cared enough and paid attention to the fine details. This was the most expensive project I've completed on my home and the process was painful from start to finish. I did some research on my own about replacement windows, but I work full-time and this is way out of my area of expertise. Although I certainly share some responsibility for hiring this company, ultimately I hired them for their expertise and do not feel as though they delivered and provided me with the best solution. The owner of the company has been over to my house and we have exchanged emails and while I feel there was no malintent on the part of the salesman, in hindsight I wish that I had dealt with the owner from the beginning. I think he may have presented me with other options to try first. He has recommended I get interior storm windows, which his company does not sell. I visited the local showroom of a company that does sell the storm windows and I do think that would have been a better solution to start with. As I have told him, presenting me with options that worked would have established goodwill and I may have hired his company for other projects or even eventually hired him to replace the windows. Things being what they are, I do not recommend this company.

The installation of the new vinyl window and sliding glass doors went extremely well. The products are clearly of high quality. The new window and doors have improved the functionality (less air flow, less noise) and look of home. I went with laminated glass. It is expensive, but it has been well worth the extra cost. I live on a busy street and my house is MUCH quieter with the new windows. My community dictates outside color, but I was able to get white for the interior casing for an extra cost. I am glad I did. The white goes very well with my décor and helps to brighten my house. I only wish I did not need to install blinds -- the doors looked great on their own! I had a very good experience with Windows on Washington throughout the entire process. Kevin was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in educating me about the various products and choices as I sought quotes. The installation crew was amazing. They showed up on time and worked extremely hard. They were at my house for 12 hours! They worked the entire time they were here, aside from a 30 minute lunch break. The window and doors were installed properly and the crew took great care in ensuring the job was done correctly. In fact, they noticed an issue with one of the doors and took the time to fix it before installing it. They also reinstalled quarter round molding around one of the doors at my request. I highly recommend Windows on Washington and would use them again in the future.

I recently obtained estimates for repairs to my existing siding and roof, as well as replacement windows from a number of companies. It is an overwhelming and painful process, as I don't know anything about this sort of thing and feel like I am at a disadvantage and ripe for getting hosed on both price and quality. Of the companies I contacted for estimates, WoW was by far, hands down, my top choice. This is for a number of reasons. Everyone that I came into contact with was courteous and helpful. Eric was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and spent a great deal of time explaining things to me (sometimes twice...) and never once tried to upsell or pressure me. Rather than give me a sales pitch, he educated me on my needs and the options available to meet those needs. In addition to giving me the information I needed to make a good decision, he also explained how each option was priced - what I was actually getting for my $$. This helped immensely in making a responsible, informed decision. My home is my biggest asset, and Eric and Windows on Washington has been instrumental in helping me protect my investment. Thank you. The services haven't been completed YET. When I am able to get these things done, Eric and Windows on Washington will be doing them.

We need to replace both our roof and windows in our house, and solicited a number of estimates for this dual project. Some that could handle both projects, and specialists in either roofing or windows. We liked a few of the contractors, and then came Windows on Washington, and WOW (pun intended), we were just blown away. Eric Novotny, the company president, came out and spent a great deal of time with us explaining our options, and answering our many questions. We never felt rushed, and Eric is exceedingly knowledgeable in both facets of our project. I don't think we have ever been as comfortable with a contractor as we were with Eric. He puts you at ease, and you can tell that he is very detail oriented. At one point, we could not settle on a specific shingle, and he delivered a couple of samples, and did so despite it being late and during a thunderstorm. It was then that we were certain that WoW would go the extra mile on our project. The estimate from WoW was certainly not the cheapest we received, but that didn't matter, because we know we will end up with a better completed project in choosing WoW to do the work. We cannot wait to get our project underway, and I will update this review once the work is completed. UPDATE: All our our projects have been completed, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Our house looks fantastic, and WoW did an excellent job. Both crews arrived on the date and time they were scheduled to work, and we didn't have any issues at all. The work was first rate, and they also do a great job of cleaning up after the work has been completed. We used Cetainteed Landmark Pro shingles in Heather Blend HD, and they really look great on our house. We also went with 6" jumbo, seamless gutters in Cameo to match the color of our new window frames and siding on our house. It's such a major improvement over the twenty year old white gutters that stood out and were definitely an eyesore. Our windows are Okna 500's, and they also look great. A high quality window, and a vast improvement over our previous windows. I highly recommend WoW without hesitation or reservation.

Brandon and I first started communicating nearly two years ago, in regards to having all of our windows replaced. Through the tenacious communications, I have most appreciated Brandon?s professionalism, knowledge, and honesty. Brandon absolutely knows his stuff, and was patient with us as we figured out our budget and plans. He came to the house and took the time to go over every question with us, and even give us some suggestions on door replacements. We have ultimately decided to go with another company ONLY because the owner is a friend of ours, and he is able to do the job closer to his cost, for nearly $2000 less expensive than the WOW quote. Even though it is more cost effective, we still struggled with the decision, because we were so impressed with Brandon and the company as a whole. In the end, we couldn?t walk away from the $2000 difference, and that is the largest reason we are going with another provider.
Description of Work: Brandon Shonebarger kept in touch with us for nearly two years, providing estimates, advice, and overall excellent customer service.

We had a great first meeting with Brandon. He was very knowledgeable about the products they sold. Very straightforward, non-agressive sales pitch. The price they quote is valid whenever you sign, whether that day or 6 months into the future. You don't feel the pressure to sign a contract the day of the sales meeting (in fact, they don't even provide a quote in that original on-site meeting). He didn't use any sales gimmicks. He explained the NFRC ratings which are test results performed by an independent company that allows you to compare various manufacturers' windows to each other. He encouraged us to compare ratings for the products within the price range we were considering. We decided to go with WOW because of the trust we gained through the sales pitch and the fact that they carried the Okna 800 series windows. I did months of research leading up to this and felt the Okna windows were among the best in the market. Even though we feel like we got the best windows we looked at in the whole process, the price charged by WOW was actually in the middle of the 7 companies we spoke with. The price quote was also itemized, showing a breakdown of how each component (window, installation, siding, etc.) contributed to the overall cost. It was very transparent and did not change from the original quote to the payment date. Windows were installed about 6 weeks after I ordered them. Installation team was courteous and professional and finished the job in 1 day. It has been 3 months since installation and we have had no issues with the performance of the windows. It has been a mild summer this year, so hard to know how much of a drop in our energy costs is attributable to the new windows. But no doubt the new windows have contributed to the decrease. Overall, we are thrilled with every aspect of our experience with WOW.

Couldn't have been happier with the job although they didn't earn our repeat business for door replacements after coming out to work up a quote and 2 months later with 2 follow up requests for the quotes we still have received nothing, which is a bit surprising considering they've used us for a reference.

Windows on Washington is a great company. Over the course of 2 months or so they worked with us on an estimate for replacement windows, and then, when I decided to repair the original windows rather than replace them, to give us an estimate for storm windows and a new patio door. They are extremely responsive, knowledgable, and very low pressure (a rarity in the window replacement biz, as I know from getting estimates from 5-6 other companies). In each instance, they recommended products which, as I was able to independently verify thru my own research, are the best around and still fit our price range. Ultimately, we went with another company who was able to do the work for about $400 less--it was actually a difficult decision since I had such a good feeling/experience with Windows on Washington. A special thanks to Kevin Bruzessi, who patiently worked with us thru this entire process. I will contact them again for any future window/door needs, and highly recommend them to anyone.

This is the epitome of professionalism -- recommending the cheaper/better alternative even though it sends you to another provider. These folks should enter the "pages of happiness."
Description of Work: I called Windows on Washington (WoW) about replacing 3 windows in my home that had cracks in it. After questioning me, he suggested I call Anderson Windows because they would likely cover 2 of the 3 windows under warranty as there was no reason for the cracks. (The 3rd window was likely hit by a stone blown by a lawnmower.) WoW was my 3rd call -- the others wanted up to $5,000 to replace the windows -- one made a house call and tried to sell me 6 windows instead of 3 as the "only way it could be done." I called Anderson and they did agree to cover two of the windows on warranty. I had to pay $200.00 for installation of the 2 windows but the materials were covered. That saved me a bundle.
