It's fine. I've used them for years. They are my regular service providers. I have a yearly contract with them that includes a couple of cleanings a year. They are always dependable. They are here when they say they are going to be here.

That went fine. It was part of a plan that my sister signed up for so I do not really remember the cost of their service and I do not know what to compare it against. The quality of their work seems fine. We did not have a problem with their punctuality on the past visit but with the time before, we had quite a bit of an issue. We are locked into whatever the maintenance plan is that my sister signed up for so I guess that we are going to use them again in the future.

They provide extraordinary service. I've used them for almost 40 years. I love them. They're great. One thing that stood out is their prompt response. I have a regular mechanic that knows my house. You have the same person show up.
Description of Work: They are my HVAC person. They provide routine service. They replaced my air conditioner a couple of times, the furnace, all that kind of things. The last time I used their service was probably May for the spring check-up. I'm on a plan. I pay $12 a month for monthly spring checking and I think I get the first $70 for the service call.

We found a very capable repair person within the company and we always have that person do our repairs because early on there were some issues, inexperienced AC people but for the most part, our overall impression is they have qualified people. It's just that you have to understand who steps at your door. They're maybe a little bit pricy. I've never gotten other estimates. The quality of the service we've found our best air conditioning service person within the company. He's excellent. He is super knowledgeable, super good. He is an outstanding technician. It took us a while to get there but now that we're there, we don't do anything without that individual coming out here to do the work. The quality of the work is excellent. The quality of his work is outstanding. They've always been pretty responsive. They give you a window when they're going to be here and they've always been here. They will call in advance which is good also to let you know that they're coming which is also a plus. They are always on time. Now that we found the technician who we completely trust, we're sticking with it. They use booties when they come in your house so they keep it clean. They always clean up after themselves.
Description of Work: We have used Vernon. They were just here a couple of months ago. The guy came out for a repair. Basically, we had an issue with our air conditioner. We have a heat pump basically. They were here to do the repair. We do have a service with them where they come out a couple of times a year. But, under their service plan, if something breaks in the interim, then you're paying the repair at a lower rate. You'll still get a price break but it's not a free service at that point.

We've had an excellent experience. They are top notch for what I had to have them do. They were superior for what I had them do. We had a warranty for them to come out and check the things for free. I would definitely use them again.

We have been doing business with Vernon for a number of years and have been very happy with them. They are always very careful and explain to us everything they do. They are thorough and back up their work. If we have ever had a problem they come right back out to see what is going on. They show up when expected and do a good job. I would not say they go above and beyond or anything like that, but I don't know how you would go above and beyond on something like that. It is basic service on a furnace and we believe in having them come out and do the checkups so that we will avoid problems down the road. Fortunately we have not had any. I think they were the company that installed this unit. We have been extremely happy with the unit and their recommendations for the install. The unit was put in very professionally and looks good; it is not an eyesore. All that work was done very neatly and nicely. When all was said and done we saved money on our monthly bills because they made good recommendations for us. We have no complaint about their price and have never had a problem with their responsiveness.
Description of Work: We have them come out every 6 months to do the pre-season checkup for the heating and air conditioning unit.

I just got a couple of guys that used to work on our house that I like very well but I must say some of the stuff I had done was pretty shabby. I like them because I have a guy that works for me. He comes over and cleans my furnace twice a year. I've just had some other times that I have thought they haven't told me everything about a new furnace bringing in. They brought people that didn't know answers to questions. I think there are probably some better well qualified people if going to get a whole new furnace or anything. There is a very young man named Craig and he is very good. He comes about every I thought six months. The service I'm getting right now from Craig is excellent. He just knows what he's doing, but when you call the office it's very confusing. Their office is not run well, even Craig has told me that. Otherwise, him cleaning the furnace is excellent. They are supposed to call you and set this up twice a year. They never call. They just let it go by and if I didn't call you never get the service done. So, that's back in to the front office again which is not run well. The guy I've used now is excellent, but if he leaves or quits or I can't get him, then I'm going to go with somebody else because the people they sent over that worked on the furnace, some of them have been extremely incompetent.

I use them regularly and have a service agreement with them. They come out twice a year and check everything out. They have replaced my heat pump twice over the years as well as my hot water heater. I am very pleased with them. I have been using Vernon Heating for 15 years now. They have this membership-type thing where you pay so much per month. I have the platinum which is about $27 monthly. They come out twice a year during the summer and winter or when the seasons change to make sure everything is running okay. Also if there is any repair needed, typically it does not cost anything. I had to have something repaired the last time, but because I have the platinum, it did not cost anything. This year's membership virtually paid for that repair so for me it is worth the money. One of their technicians pointed out that my hot water heater was bad when he was changing my heat pump so I had them change it because they gave me a competitive price. I trust them. I also get a warranty on the work so I might pay a little more, but it is worth it to get a warranty. They are prompt for appointments and also call in advance of an appointment when they are on the way. They have never missed their time window.

The experience and the company was very good. They were referred to me, that's why I used them. They are very thorough and did not try to take advantage of me because I was a woman. I believe they are honest and upfront. They were slightly higher, but the service was excellent.

I was doing research on them, because I was thinking of moving to someone else, because they are pretty pricey. Even if you look at the Washington Check Book, they get a low rating on their pricing. I need to get a new whole house humidifier, and I had duct that went out, and it originally cost me $300, and now they are telling me to replace it, will cost $2000. Depending on who the technician is, you get various degrees of service. I had one guy who would take the furnace apart, and was very meticulous, while the last one just came and looked at it. I pay $167 for the check ups, and if I need any parts, they give 10% discount on them, which is not very much. When I moved into my townhouse in September of 2004, I saw one of their trucks in the area, and so I gave them a call, because I wanted my furnace checked before I fired it up. A guy came out, he looked at it, and he gave me a call and told me to go down to the basement. I went down there, and he asked me if I had been using my heat. I said yes. He showed me where my heat exchanger was crumbled. He asked me if I had a home inspection, and I told him that the guy never told me anything was wrong, and he said that by law, he had to switch my gas off, because I am lucky, I am not dead. They gave me an estimate, and I had the unit replaced inside and outside. I had a couple of technicians that were very good, and they left and went to some place else, and I happened to stay with them. They are probably the most expensive around. They usually give you a 2 hour window, and they are usually right within that, and they call you before they come out.
Description of Work: I use Vernon Heating & Air Conditioning. I used them about a month ago. I have a contract with them, and I am supposed to get 2 services a year, and it was getting to the end of May, so I called them, and asked them if we still get two services. They said yes, and I told them that it was mid May, and I hadn't gotten a call yet, so they said they would send someone the following week, and then they sent someone.

When I ordered, the company person, John Beardsly only wrote down generic details, no model numbers (did write down 80 plus infinity gas furnace, but no model number). I asked model numbers be inserted - we went to my computer and researched each piece of equipment - , John and I selecting appropriate model numbers and descriptions. Some items (furnace and air conditioner) he put brand name and model number; water heater name brand and model name. He spent time with me explaining and telling me how nice I was. Delivery day installers and equipment arrived on time, but had the wrong brand water heater. They sent for the right brand, but when it was delivered I discovered the right brand, but a cheaper, lesser model. I checked model name and discovered the error. Discussion pursued , had to go back on line to show them right water heater. Checked aircondiitioner box after water heater incident. Found it was not the correct model. I was told it was already installed. I told them they would have to remove it and get right model. After John made several calls, he told me the right model was made on the west coast and it would take time to order. I called Carrier, mnfg., and was told there was a warehouse right in Virginia. More calls by John. Offerred to give me $400 refund for this lesser model or I could pay $700 for better model. I told him I had contract and wanted what I ordered. At one point John told me and quot;number didn't made a difference.and quot; Finally, he got a Carrier Rep. (manager?) on phone. After much discussion with Carrier person who was trying to assure me that no one was trying to intentionally give me wrong item (which I was told several times), I asked hime how they intended to rectify. I was told I was rude for interrupting, he was only trying to help. Finally he agreed to give me the better air conditioning model for no additional. The installation team was at my house from about 8 am to 7:30pm. The installer asked how they did. I said installers seemed fine, but rest was horrid, I did not trust John and felt I was being intimidated. Never again with Vernons.

In the 13 years we’ve owned our home, we’ve had various issues with our HVAC system. And over those same years, we’ve also had issues with our heating and cooling service companies. We had changed companies three times, using some of the more well-known firms that everyone knows from their advertising, all to our dissatisfaction. I feel confident in saying that our search for a company that we can trust is at an end now that we have settled with Vernon Heating and Air Conditioning. We researched Vernon and found good reviews on Angie’s List so we gave them a try, signing up for one of their service plans. During the seasonal inspection visit, our technician showed us how our previous providers had improperly installed equipment and had jury-rigged electrical components in such a way that they were not up to code at best, potentially devastating at worst. Our Vernon rep presented us with options that were all viable and affordable. He had a thorough knowledge of product and even of upcoming changes to the county code, for which he presented us a means of meeting the requirements with little additional cost. We replaced our entire system – heat pump, air handler, and system controller (or thermostat, in older terms) – and the Vernon installation team was top-notch. They were knowledgeable, professional, and displayed practical problem-solving skills in making the most efficient fit between home and equipment. They were courteous, clean, and quick. The true measure of Vernon’s quality came recently, though. There was a problem with a new piece of equipment and I contacted the company to seek a solution to the problem. They contacted me shortly thereafter and offered to come out at a time that was – much to my surprise – after I got home from work. What was more surprising was who came out – two of Vernon’s top leadership. It was clear by their presence that Vernon has a strong customer service ethic. They wanted to make sure they understood the issue completely, saw the environment for themselves, verified the corrective measures, and made sure that we were completely satisfied. What a pleasant change…instead of excuses or guesses, Vernon gave us solutions and reassurance. Without hesitation, I can gladly give my strongest possible endorsement for Vernon Heating and Air Conditioning.
Description of Work: Installed heat pump, air handler, system controller, UV light/air scrubber, water heater. Performed seasonal maintenance.

On March 14th, I buried my husband (age 47) on March 16th my whole unit went out. A friend of mine called Vernon Heating and A/C explained to them what was going on and they were out here to start measuring and getting a new unit installed. Steve and Andy were wonderful with everything they did and make sure I understand how to use the new system. I would recommend them to anyone!!!

Vernon to the rescue! We came home from the Thanksgiving holiday to a cold house and a 2 inch thick wall of ice around the condenser. I called Vernon at 3pm, and Phil was out by 6pm to check out the system. I knew it was most likely on its last leg based on its age and condition, so I wasn’t surprised when Phil suggested that we replace it vice repair it (although he did offer that as an option). After walking me through several options within our budget (and not pressuring me), we agreed on a unit, and he said they would be out the next morning to install it. Sure enough, Phil, Zach, and Brian were out the next morning at the promised time installing the brand new system. They were exceptionally polite and professional, and they were very careful with our home. After installing the system and removing all of the old materials, Zach walked me through how to work all of the new components, including the humidifier and touch thermostat. When it was all said and done, Vernon had us warmer than ever just over 24 hours after we called them. We will certainly be calling them for all our heating and A/C needs, but aside for their 2x year service, I don’t think we’ll need to worry about that any time soon. PS - After the cold winter we’ve just had, I’m so glad Vernon came through!

Phil has been a great ambassador for the company. In the past, I've been a bit leery about some of their reps' recommendations; but Phil has proven a straight shooter and is willing to work with you to ensure questions are answered fully and there are no misunderstandings about his diagnosis. That said, Vernon's pricing tends to be a bit steep.

I was told the provider does not keep any pricing in the office. They refused to give me any concept of price range of what it could cost to install a humidifier in my home even if I could give the specifications of my HVAC system and home. They insisted the only way was to come out and do an estimate of the home. I am sure this company has a concept of what something like this would cost. I was just trying not to waste both of our time. To the companies credit, I left a message on a Sunday and received a call back immediately the following day.

I was Ok with the charges for the freon replacement, but appalled at the attempt to deceive me into thinking I needed a new HVAC system. The representative told me my system was old and that I needed to consider a replacement before spending any money on keeping the old system going. He handed me a brochure designed to look like a U.S. Government publication - complete with the Great Seal of the U. S. on the front cover and without a company logo. The brochure contained information on the environmental importance of HVAC unit replacement. When I questioned the appearance of the brochure he took it back, finished his job and left. I called to complain and never received a return call. I'm not sure if it is even legal for a commercial enterprise to create a brochure that looks like an official government publication, but legal or not I do ot appreciate the attempt to baffle the customer. I have been a customer of Vernon's since moving to the area 8 years ago, but no longer.

It was all good. I have been using them for years. they have been my service providers for checkups and such. Over the past several years they have been telling me I was going to need a new heating and air conditioning system and why I would need it. They have shown me parts that are failing and things like that. They were not saying I needed to buy the system immediately so they were not pushy with sales efforts, but were very helpful, knowledgeable and provided me with brochures. They would mail me things if they did not have them with them. I decided to do it this spring. The presented a variety of options to me, based not only on price, but how long I would live in the house, necessary size, noise and whether dust was an issue. They wanted me to get what would suit my needs the best. I like them and I think they are very trustworthy.

I had issues with my Rheem HVAC unit icing up on a couple of occasions and finally I was not getting any cooling form it. So I suspect it was low on Freon again (back in April, I had the system recharged). I contacted Vernon and scheduled a time (four hour window 12pm -4pm), on 11SEP13, for a technician to come out and inspect the system. Although their web site indicated free estimates, a diagnostics will run $149 and it was expected that I would have a diagnostics performed. Adam the Vernon service specialist arrived about half hour beyond the assigned window. Adam advised me before he started, that it will cost me $300-400 to recharge the Freon if it was 3 lbs or less, and showed me the pricing chart he carried, as he then indicated the cost increased for 4-7 pounds would be $700. When he hooked up the system to get a reading – it was flat line – no Freon, nor would the system turn on, due to the low Freon. Since he needs to have the system pressurized to perform the diagnostics, he then advised, adding nitrogen, then check for leaks and re-charge the system. This jump the repair cost to a different pricing tier, to the tune of $1250 plus the diagnostic which STILL have not been completely performed. After agreeing to this service, I came back out to check on his progress about 20min later. I was surprised that, the nitrogen was already loaded and replaced with Freon. The leak was determined to be a pin in the return line (maybe) as his detector was unable to NOT detect a leak due to the Freon amount around the area. The system still did not turn on and Adam was getting frustrated (understandably so), I got the impression that he was not very familiar with the Rheem system, since he made several comments at unable to locate the manual by-pass, and not able to read (understand) what the diagnostics board was indicating. After giving some space and time to do his job, he came in and ask me to come and see the circuit board. He pointed out a spot where the board was damaged and the system was sending power across a broken circuit line causing an arc to appear. Adam then explained that this is why the system will not turn on, and it would be an additional $700 to replace the board, and needs ot be ordered (2-3 days). I mentioned the board and pi should be under warranty, and Adam said that’s a “office” question. I attempted to contact the Rheem customer care but they were close. Adam then offered that if I sign up for Vernon Service plan (Silver only, as the system needs to running and in good condition for Gold/Platinum service) for an additional $167.40 I sign this service agreement, and I informed him that we will be inquiring about the warranty service. The next day, I inquired to Rheem and discovered that EVERYTHING on that system is under warranty for 10 years (due to the type of system I have), I asked them how a service company can charge me for a warranty part, and Rheem explained, the service company should not be charging me, as they will claim the warranty during the part exchange. I only need to pay for labor. I contacted Vernon and spoke with their service manager and basically cancelled the SILVER service, and order for the circuit board. I also, expressed my displeasure over the service provided and way the cost keep jumping up and mostly for charging me for parts under warranty and the feeling of being forced to sign up for a service plan. I believe Adam is a good technician, but he was out of his element with this system. In the end, I paid $980 dollars for services rendered. Additional note – when the I got the circuit board was replaced by Service Heating and Cooling, they indicated that 1) my system cannot take 12 lbs of Freon, which is what Vernon said they put into my unit. Two addition pound of Freon was put into my unit on 18SEP, so either my unit is leaking 2 lbs a week which means the leak was not fixed, or the unit wasn’t completely charged as stated, either way I OVER PAID for service rendered. I currently have a service plan with Service Heating and Cooling - Burke, VA

I didn't schedule the duct cleaning right away due to business travel. Later when I returned to subject property, I tried to schedule a duct cleaning. After 4 days of calling back and repeatedly being transfered to people's voice mail (none of which returned my calls), I am giving up with them. It seems that if you want a company that has people that answer the phone but tell you they only have 30 seconds to and quot;helpand quot; you before transfering you to someone that never calls back, then this is your place. And I have a and quot;serviceand quot; contract with them.
