+ -1 moreThe purchase of the first light was smooth and the salesman, William, was helpful. Jonathan, the salesman who helped us choose the second light, was very polite. I went back later to place the order and was helped by an employee who seemed to be in training and barely spoke English (which may explain why I wasn't told about the restocking fee, although that's not a good excuse). See above for the rest of how it went.
Description of Work: We bought a fixture for our downstairs bath that we are very happy with, although reading other reviews here I suspect we paid too much. Then we ordered one for our downstairs bath...and when it turned out we could not use it (it was intended to go above a medicine cabinet that in the end could not be recessed as planned) they charged us a 25% of cost restocking fee (over $100). This fee seems excessive to "cover their shipping," and it had not been explained when I placed the order - as it should have been (I would not have complained, btw, about a more reasonable restocking fee, but I doubt their shipping was anything close to $100, and they weren't sending it back...so if anyone buys it they'll still keep the full price plus my fee). On top of that they tried to keep 25% of the sales tax - for a light which we never took delivery of - because "that's how the computer calculates it." After much discussion they did refund me the whole sales tax amount, but I'd bet they've kept quite a bit of money from people who don't notice that they aren't getting their full sales tax refunded.

+ 0 moreThe sales person, Will Kelly, was very helpful in selecting a perfect light fixture for my cathedral ceiling stairwell. He was able to provide suggestions and caveats with each light fixture. And when a selection was being narrowed down, he would look up similar items that were not on display, but could be ordered and shared those options with me as well. I had been searching for the right fixture for more than 2 years, and one visit a Dulles Electric and the professional assistance provided by Will, made the selection much easier than all the other options I had visited or on-line searched during that time. Because Dulles Electric does not install fixtures in my area, Will recommended someone that could do the installation, which was helpful, since this would require some expertise and was not a DIY project. I hope to work with Will again on my basement lighting project next year.

We were specifying all LED products, so treading into unknown territory that does not always match conventional lighting wisdom.

+ -1 moreThe overall experience was good. The price I was originally quoted for the lights was much higher than what I found online but they matched the online pricing so I have no complains. Juno makes beautiful dimming LEDs and while they are more expensive than other brands, we have no regrets.

+ -1 moreI had purchased lighting fixtures from Will, the manager of the showroom, in recent years. He knows his merchandise and can help immensely in identifying the right fixture and parts. He even installed the showroom when the store first opened as he is an electrician. His selection of a spotlight to be installed at a distance on a cathedral ceiling for a very important painting was prompt and right on target. This kind of advice just no longer seems to be available from the sales staff at Dominion Electric many branches. Will also helped a friend who was searching for decorative sconces in her LR. He provided the right catalouges for her to make a purchase by special order.
Description of Work: I needed a very specific ceiling light for my new cathedral ceiling to illuminate a painting over the fireplace. The original lighting (cheap Lightolier) installed by the contractor was worthless and impossible to use.

+ -1 moreGreat showroom and selection. Found LED puck lights for my cabinet. Salespeople were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Didn't need an appointment yet they were still quick to help. The guys in the back (counter) were also very friendly and helpful. My only knock was that they didn't have everything in stock, but with a selection that large I can understand.

+ -1 moreI looked for a ceiling fan at Home Depot and Lowes, both in the stores and on line, and at other on line sites. I did not find what I wanted in the stores and was reluctant to purchase a fan on line without being able to see it. So, I headed to Dulles Electric ... again. Susan Nottoli was very helpful. I explained what I was looking for: bedroom ceiling fan, no light, reasonable price. She quickly recommended a Casablanca fan that fit my needs and desires, including price. My experience is that Dulles Electric is very competitive on price, including compared to on line vendors. Don't let their extensive showroom make you think they are more expensive. They have a large number of quality vendors at prices to suit your needs.

She gave us copies of the catalog pictures of the fixtures we were considering so that we could take them home to ponder which we thought would work best.
