John Hicks Drywall Co

Unfortunately, I did not have the positive experience that previous clients have had. I suspect that it was all worth it, because I believe I didn't pay as much for the service as I could have. I chose John Hicks, because of the positive comments recorded in Angie's List, and because he was close to Blacksburg, VA. He requested that I provide the drywall, which I was glad to do, because I get a 10% veterans' discount from Lowe's and Home Depot. Little did I know that agreeing to this would commit me to cleaning up. John had another couple of men who installed the drywall, and John did the plastering and sanding. He did a fine job of sanding, because I did not need to follow behind and take care of any fine scratches. He did not apply a primer coat, and he said he did not know what a high-build primer is. After he finished, there was dest everywhere that I cleaned up. I also was responsible for disposing of the unused drywall. If you choose to use John for drywall installation, BE SURE to have a clear understanding of what he and you will be responsible for. John did not provide a contract, just a price per sheet of drywall.la

John was called in to fix and finish a job originally estimated at two weeks in length. The project was 3 weeks overdue, and only 1/3 complete (done, but not to our standards) when he came on site. John was very understanding of the urgency to finish, and came with whatever help he needed to get the job done. He communicated well with the homeowner and general contractor. We found John to be hard-working, punctual, respectful, and fast. His work was high quality and he was very motivated to work. Compared to the other dry-waller we had started with, John was clean, efficient with supplies, and took care of minor fixes at the tail end of the job without complaining or delay. We sincerely appreciated John coming in to finish someone what someone else had started and doing it with a good attitude, along with a high quality of work. John was also respectful of the site as our home, not just a job-site. Taking that perspective was a great blessing to us, as the other guy smoked and left his cigarette butts and trash all over the house. We were so pleased with John and his work that we plan on using him in the future as we do the subsequent phases of our renovation. We've also not hesitated to recommend him to others we know who are looking for dry-wall work.
