+ 6 moreHorribly. He is your stereotypical "contractor" from h***.
Description of Work: He is OK with tile work - although I've never seen him actually do any of the work. He has two helpers do the tiles. But don't let him do anything else to your house. He is just a Class C contractor and is not licensed nor qualified to do remodeling work - dry wall, electrical, plumbing. He lied to me and took on my entire home remodel, took $20K from me to tear down the walls and install new dry wall. The dry wall was finished by someone who left tape seams at the corners showing. He had someone unqualified to do electrical do all my wiring. Two electricians have looked at it and said it was hideously done - no way it was done by a pro. Since I was going out of town immediately after he gave me his bid, I had no time to pack my property up. He took it upon himself to pack it and threw it all in a pile in my garage. Did not clean up the dry wall dust and left the filter off my HVAC system all winter with the furnace running. An HVAC specialist came in and inspected it and said the coil is covered in dry wall dust, which would have turned to mud in the summer when the a/c comes on. So I am having to have it cleaned for $300. John used my bath towels as his shop towels. A marijuana pipe was left in my kitchen pantry - I found it when cleaning out the pantry. They also left a dog food container opened in my pantry, which attracted rodents. When I came home my pantry was covered in mouse feces. They loosely packed all of my belongings in my garage - with my heirloom china and crystal not protected and sitting out. Mixed with everything from a printer to lamps, pillows, etc - everything was literally thrown together in a mixed pile in my garage. All of it was/is covered in dry wall dust and mouse feces. No effort was made to protect it. I had told him I could have some men come help with moving my stuff out - but they ended up not being able to go to my house for a week. So he just moved it himself without consulting with me. The men did eventually go over to move a few things, and they said that my clothes and belongings were in a room that was being dry walled and that they had not been covered up. When I asked why he hadn't cleaned up the dry wall job - he said it would have been a waste of time to do so and would have cost me money to do. He reasoned that b/c the job wasn't finished, that he didn't have to clean up the dry wall dust. And he said it was probably better for my HVAC to leave the filter off as the filter had gotten clogged and that he was waiting for me to come back to buy a new (3.50 filter) to install. I guess it was just too expensive for him to take care of, even though I had stupidly already paid him $20,000. Also - he told me that he would do one room at a time in my house so that if I ran out of money, I would not be left without a house to go back to. Instead, he gutted my entire house and now I do not have a house to go back to. There is no kitchen, no bathroom. I am having to rent a house while my house is rebuilt. Finally, in our communications at the end of his work with me - when I terminated him - he started insulting me with regard to my current relationship with my partner. He took it to a deeply personal level, with accusations regarding my "ethics." None of his business and not pertinent to the issue at hand - MY HOUSE and HIS WORK. About a month into the project, after calling him and emailing him and not getting calls back, when I finally got him on the phone, he proceeded to tell me that my job wasn't a big deal to him as it wasn't "a lot of money" for him. He said he had just started a $200,000 job in Madison, Virginia working on an old hotel there, and that was taking his attention. So watch out - if your job isn't "a lot of money" for him, he will treat it that way. PSA - I just learned that as a Class C contractor in VA, he is only allowed to do up to $10K of work per site per year. So he is going around breaking the law in all kinds of ways. I am sure the Commonwealth of Virginia Board for Professional and Occupational Regulation is going to just love to hear about all of this. Finally - I have been trying to contact him to find out who did the electrical wiring in my house. I have left two voice mails and sent an email. He has yet to respond to me - it has been five days since I called and left two messages.
