In the process of installing the water heater they broke pipes that ran to my washing machine and the 90% of the floor was saturated beneath the vinyl floor covering. Because the vinyl had to be cut to allow the floor to dry, this company assured me that the vinyl flooring would be replaced and that they would make it right. I paid for a floor joist that was damaged and sent the invoice to this company to pay for the vinyl they damaged only and they refused to pay. I paid the flooring company because they did a great job, but the owner of Mountain Air refused to pay and I'm out $1,200 plus the cost of getting the laundry pipes installed correctly and the water heater install finished. I discourage utilizing this business for either plumbing or TRANE HVAC services because the owner lied and took advantage of delays due to COVID. The situation was inconvenient to say the least but the fact that they didn't keep their word says a ton about their ethics. The owner refuses to even discuss it. BEWARE!!

I contacted Mountain Air, in nearby Covington Virginia at the end of June 2010. I have complaints regarding Mountain Air, owned by Carl Byer. The first complaint is that the contract I was provided was ambiguous, so I inserted the clause that the work had to be done by October 1. Then the bid was raised from $8,665. to $15,680. as he said heat pumps in his original bid were no longer available. In the middle of July 2010, Mr. Byer said he needed up-front cash for parts, that escalated from $4000, to $8000. I gave him a check for $8000, which he cashed, assuring me the work would be done by August. August went by, September went by and the excuses were myriad, including that Mitsubishi was sending parts by boat!!!! And he would install a Sanyo, even though it would cost him more. When I was ready to go to court, his crew arrived on October 1, and installed the heating system in a day and a half. Since the heating system was installed and working, I gave a check for the remaining $8000, expecting that the outside lines would be covered as depicted. Hoses and connections are exposed and ugly, I need the exterior painted, and in March 2011 he told me he would get them covered when the weather permitted. Two of his workers came by in April, and covered the lines and connections on one side of the house. They both said, "We are sorry, we are paid workers, and can't do anything unless Carl orders us." Connections still exposed on one side of the house, I still can't have the stucco exterior spray painted with connections exposed. One year later, Carl Byer, who owns Mountain Air and was upfronted thousands for months, paid in full in October, 2010, is blowing me off to complete the job, now one year later. I do not believe his actions are ethical although the heating and air system I purchased work well so far. Small issue for him...big issue for me...I need my home painted. Also, I told others how well this type of system works to others with older homes not containing duct work (mostly steam radiators) but after viewing the uncovered lines and pipes crawling up the side of my home, they lost interest. It is possible that Mr. Byer is not interested in residential work, and if that is the case, he may not wish to bid on residential projects in the future. I would not recommend dealing with Mountain Air, and especially not paying anything in advance of total work completion.
