Michael Burton Tree Service

Description of Work: Mr. Burton cut down a small tree in our yard and had agreed to remove the stump. He did not cut the tree to the stump saying he was afraid he would harm my neighbor's fence. We discussed solutions and Mr. Burton agreed if we removed the fence section, he would finish the job. While here, Mr. Burton gave us an estimate to remove 2 larger trees in our yard which also included removing the wood and grinding the stumps. He assured me he was insured and would provide a contract. Once Mr. Burton received my message that we were ready to have the trees removed, he returned my call right away. The day of the tree cutting, Mr. Burton did not have the contract but we cut the trees anyway. Mr. Burton did not bring the stump grinding machine with him because it was a big job and they were trying to complete before the impending snow storm that was on the way. Mr. Burton promised to leave me an invoice with all the particulars that were done and what would be completed once the snow passed. Mr. Burton indicated he had other stumps in the neighborhood to grind and he would do them the same day. To date (4/6/2010), I have no invoice. Three messages left for Mr. Burton have not been returned. My fault for not insisting on the contract and invoice. I'm too old for this to have happened to me so let my experience educate you on proper contract negotiations. Always get it in writing and always insist on copies of contracts and invoices.
