Description of Work: Mark and his team remodeled our wood deck on the house we had recently purchased, which had railing which was not properly treated when it was originally installed, and was literally falling apart. We looked at 3 different deck refurbishing companies, but Mark had the lowest cost by about 8%, and he also coordinated to have the deck surface washed and re-stained, which the other companies did not do. My wife and I struggled to find a railing system that we liked, but once we did select one, there were a series of issues on component parts' availability and cost which conspired to delay the project, frustrating both Mark and me, as the price quote increased. Mark had tentatively scheduled to do the project in the first week of December, but he called me the afternoon before Thanksgiving to ask if he could have the deck washed and stained the next morning (Thanksgiving day) in order to accomplish this before forecasted wet weather came in, but I just couldn't be ready to support this with less than 24 hours notice over a major holiday. After the wet weather passed a few days later, Mark wanted to get in quickly to wash and stain the deck. I was fine with washing it, but had deep concerns about staining it until it fully dried out, but the deck was just not drying as a result of cold weather and several frost events, even though I kept hoping that it would. I really wanted to accommodate Mark's desire to get the job done, but I did not want to be stuck with a stain job that did not last as a result of being placed on damp wood. After a lot of pressure from Mark, including being accused of wanting my deck to be "kiln-dried", I finally conceded to have the deck stained 4-5 days after the wet weather had passed. Once this was complete, Mark's crew arrived to install the railing system. They did a quick job of demolition of the decaying rails, but were concerned about putting together the system we had selected as they had never used it before. Nonetheless it seemed to go together fairly smoothly, and it looks great. Although the overall quality was fairly good in the end, I felt pressured as the client throughout the process, and I felt like Mark wanted to take a few shortcuts. I believe he disagrees with me on this, but he definitely made me feel that way, and I was very uncomfortable about it. It seems as though Mark and his team were more comfortable with the suite of railing systems they were used to installing, and I felt he did not want to listen to my concerns about staining the damp wood. In addition, I had to point out a glaring area of rotten wood on one of the major joists, and after the work was completed, I noticed that many of the steps seem unsteady, and will require future repair. Although Mark's team did replace a few steps, I would have hoped that they would have noticed all of the steps that needed to be replaced and discussed it with me. I have no doubt that Mark's team does good work, and I know they have a lot of highly satisfied clients. But it seems to me that they were challenged to work through a series of delaying circumstances with me, and this left me frustrated.
