 + -1 moreHe was very professional and showed me everything he did. He did more than the average duct cleaner. He had all the equipment necessary. He painted our ceiling vents because it was a new house and they weren't painted. They were very professional and I am very happy with the service.

 + -1 moreThere were so many screw ups I can hardly tell you.
Description of Work: I joined Angie's List to locate the right company to have install a new HVAC system. WOW! something went wrong here. I picked Smith and Keene because they were not as arrogant as the other companies for one thing. Just about everything went wrong. First of all, they had 3 very young guys come and install the system. I told them they needed to provide 12 inches all the way around the heat pump for proper functioning - they told me it did not matter. So I had the office send me an installation guide to prove my point. Additionally the supervisor was a father of one of the installers, did not help me at all. It was finally moved to specs of 12 inches, after a war with the kids. This was only the beginning. Within 3 days, a service man came out. But only after the scheduler told me I had to wait because it was not an emergency. WHOA. Another red flag. The service man said if the t-stat went off schedule it would need replacing. Of course it went off schedule, another man can out re-programed it and it went out again (he should have replaced it THEN). Finally 4 months later when S & K did a check on their system did they replace it after I showed him the ticket of written recommendation. He wasn't going to do it either!!! The Financial company, did not record the credit given me by the city on my statement - another red flag. The system uses an additional $20-30 on a $50 to $60 bill normally. So it uses 50% MORE than I did with a cheaper system which was failing. This is smart to do. Another red one. I had another company come over to inspect what they were doing and he was afraid to take on their disaster and have it come back on his responsibility for reliable warranty's. Another red flag. I am stuck with this company. I can not tell you how horrible that feels. Additionally, the Air Effects system (for extra cleaning) was not even grounded. AND, they had not connected the Emergency Heat wiring to the t-stat, AND they had cut some wires down to nothing out, inside the air handler.

 + -1 moreThey did a great job overall, but mainly they did great disposing the part that was in the attic. They were clean and careful and installed a heating pump that it was better than the one that they had told us.
Description of Work: I had an old heating pump which was divided in two parts: One in the attic and the other one outside. As it was getting really old, they replaced it for a new one, which has only one part and is located outside. It's energy efficient and the brand is Trane. It heats my 2000 square feet home.

 + -1 moreDiscovered no air conditioning coming out of the vents, but the AC unit was running outside. Called Smith & Keene because they recharged the freon last year. They couldn't make it out for 5 days. It got cold over the weekend, and found that heat didn't come out, either, indicating a problem with the air handler. Smith & Keene finally showed up and confirmed it; only motor they could find is in Texas, and that Customer Service would call us back with a price. No call. I called them, and they said the motor was on order. They couldn't tell me how much this was going to cost. I pushed for an estimate, they said between $409 and $500. Waited another 5 days for the motor to come in. When they called to schedule the install, they still wouldn't provide a solid estimate until I pressed them for it. Customer Service seemed perturbed that I wanted an estimate for the work. Also, this website says they don't charge for travel. Not true-assessment cost me $65 in travel.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for a replacement blower motor in the attic's air handler system.

 + -1 moreVery, very frustrating. The company has grown too fast for its competency level. They have not charged me for services to date but living without air conditioning is no compensation.
Description of Work: From March to end of July they made six service calls to my home for malfunctioning air conditioning. In spite of my protests that there must be a leak or cause, they insisted that it just kept needing Freon. Going up the ladder I finally found a supervisor who sent ''the best'' who discovered a vacuum leak. His reason why it wasn't found earlier, ''Some techicians have better vacuum leak detectors than others''. I also learned that the previous supervisor had been dismissed. It is early September and the AC is still not fixed, now it's because the company hasn't sent the part. It has been a hot summer.

Then actually getting them to come out here to install it, was even harder because they were so busy. The people were polite and wonderful though. My air conditioner now works and I haven't had any problems with it so far.

 + -1 moreI was satisfied with the purchase of the new heating unit. I thought for all of the labor it took, it was a very reasonable price. The removal of the oil tank was very hard and tedious work and they did an excellent job. They had the new heating unit up and running sooner that expected and I got to give them credit for that. I would recommend them to anyone.

I was not satisfied with the generator installation because they had to make two additional trips to finish the job. Now that the jobs completed, I was totally satisfied with their services and their product. I have recommended them to others because they deserve it.

 + -1 moreI am impressed how professionally done these people clean ducts. It is just amazing. I have seen them in action several times. Not only in my home, but, the homes of others as well. They are great when it comes to this type of work. I mean, they never walk out of here unless everything is spic and span. I can never recall a time when I seen them leave a mess behind. They are very professional. They have also done things in my sister n laws home. Things like cleaning her coils and air handlers. She loves them as well. The pricing is fair. I pay them once a year to come and clean the ducts and run maintenance checks of course.

 + -1 moreThis was the fault of the builder, but Smith & Keene should have been able to repair this quite easily. Not only did it take forever for them to come over, but after spending two hours in our bathrooms, the problem was still not fixed. We called them a couple more times and then gave up. We had a friend of ours do it right. They were a great disappointment.
Description of Work: Smith & Keen was hired to repair the overflow connections on both of our bathroom tubs. The overflow release was not connected to the sewer pipes.

 + -1 moreThese guys were very honest with us. They explained the best system to go with for maximum results. The one we got was great, and we have not had any problems with it at all. It was a little bit more expensive, but that was just because of the kind of hot water heater that it was. I really don t feel the price is anyone's business. It is a personal thing. If anybody wants to find out how much they cost, they need to call the company.

They took their shoes off so they wouldn?t soil the carpet. They were very nice people to work with and conscientious about their work.

 + 0 moreI am pleased with Smith & Keene as an overall company and I have no complaints. I have used them for a while and they seem to do pretty good. The workers are always nice to me and if there is ever a problem, they will fix it with no hassles or extra charges usually. I pay them yearly under contract and it is pretty reasonable. I do not know exactly how much it is I pay, but, it is worth it.
Description of Work: Smith & Keene provides maintenance checks on my air conditioning unit two times per year.

We called for bids on a new system, and I really liked the salesman they sent. They came out on time to install the new system and were very professional.  + -1 moreI know we have a maintenance contract with them, and they have to come right out in case of any failures in the products or any other types of emergencies with the system. I could have gone somewhere else, but these guys have done right by me. I choose to stay with them rather than try somebody new. The system they had installed is working fine, and I have no problems whatsoever with anything yet. Hopefully, I do not. If I do, they will be the first to know. I am confident that they will provide me with excellent service.

The way I see it, they cut corners to either save money or they just didn't know what the heck they were doing. They had very bad attitudes when I called them on their performance.
