I had Personal Touch Services repair water damage. They were assigned by USAA. My Project Manager was Nicole. Work was done in conjunction with homeowners and AHS. AHS caused major delays and I think Nicole did a pretty good job mitigating it. I would use Personal Touch again and I would ask Nicole to be my PM

If you are dealing with this company there is a good chance USAA directed you to them. These two numbers are your only chance to get things done. They were fired after 45 days. They did not show up to work, very disorganized. They take advantage of people. Money was taken and work was not done. Highly disappointed. Currently being sued to get money back for services. Another company was brought in and the work was completed in exactly 7 days. This includes mistakes made by Personal Touch. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Personal Touch responded quickly and provided a detailed estimate that I could forward to insurance company. They even broke it down into roof repair (not covered by the insurance) and interior ceiling and wall repair. They started 2 days after I gave them the approval. They removed the soaked drywall and insulation, dried the entire area with a dehumidifier, replaced the insulation and drywall, textured the ceiling and wall perfectly, and painted. They were very conscientious and cleaned up at the end of each day. The job was well coordinated and I was kept informed at each stage of the work. All the crew were extremely responsive and courteous through the work. They were a bit slow in working with the insurance company, but that only slowed their own payment. I simply appreciated not having to be in the middle to answer technical questions. I happily recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: I had a significant water leak from the roof during hurricane Sandy which damaged the ceiling and walls on the second floor and continued down to damage the drywall ceiling in the garage.

I went with other companies because I got the same work done at a much cheaper cost. He told me he couldn't do what I wanted to get done. He was trying to get me to do more than I actually needed. He told me that he is in it to make money. I was looking to get my house ready for a rental. He wanted to do a complete renovation instead of doing the work I wanted done.

I have used this company in the past. At that time, my home was hit by a storm and the home owners association was responsible for the roof. They called Steve Elgin of Personal Touch located in Va Beach. At that time-he came to my home and dirtied and damaged my curtains –and he never paid to have them cleaned and repaired. I called his office and sent him letters and he never responded. Now, it is "ironic" that 6 years later, his offices are being referred to me again. Not so good for Mr. Elgin that we now have Angie’s List so another 6 years won’t pass with his poor service going under the radar. Here is what happened -I was hit pretty hard by Storm Irene and I had major roof damage. My agency VIRGINIA FARM BUREAU INSURANCE COMPANIES in VA BEACH referred me to Personal Touch on a Thursday evening. Steve Elgin called me all day on a Saturday. Because I have a handicapped parent that just moved in with me-my weekends are slammed with doctor’s appointments and etc.etc. etc I called him on Tuesday at 10:30 am ( cell records) as this was a Holiday weekend. Steve said that he was too busy in the field and he could not make the appointment. Steve said that I should have called him back on Saturday. I did not bother to explain my situation to him as I felt that it was none of his business. He said that now, since I called two days later and all (Sunday-Monday) he needed me to call his office and make the appointment for myself because he simply could not do it. Knowing that another busy weekend would be upon me soon, and at the time not realizing that this was that same terrible company that ruined my curtains, I called his secretary. She asked me what work was to be performed, asked me to estimate cost of repairs-estimate work-etc, I told her that I could not do that-I was simply calling to give some good dates for him to come and give me a cost estimate- I was sure that there was damage to the roof and water damage to my pergo floors and possible damage to a leather couch-but to give time and job estimates-I was not prepared to do that. The secretary said that since I called I am the one that needed to give her these answers. Suddenly, I remembered the firm. Same [type of] secretary blocked my calls 6-years ago when I tried to talk to Mr. Eglin about my curtains. I was floored by her attitude-I am not in the roofing business and as of now-I am caregiver to my parent. I have no idea how to answer any of the questions. I called for their help and they were" putting me to work". I was placed on eternal hold-and the secretary never came back to the phone. When I called my agent to ask why PERSONAL TOUCH never called me back (I called her on Thursday) I was advised that it was because it was clear to all of them that I did not have any time to take care of the damages in my home……. time?! I was floored?! I don’t have time and I am the one that 1) contacted my insurance agent 2) made time for the agent to come to my home 3) Called Steve Eglin 4) called the rude secretary. The fact is, I was the one doing all of the work: If PERSOANL TOUCH wants business-they should be making appointments -not the potential client. Seems that they still have a terrible business model-I am listing this concern because it is clear-If Mr. Elgin cannot manage his appointment book-I have high doubts that he can manage a water restoration job.

I don't know what to say in responce to this. I don't know anything about the curtains 6 years ago. I am very good with responding to damaged items. Things do happen from time to time and if we are responsible for damage then we fix it. As far as this occurance goes, I had a roofer riding with me on the Saturday in question and I did call her twice to see if I could go by and look at the damages. She did not answer so we moved on to the next clients that were home and we could stop by and see. That Teusday she did call me while I was out in the field, and I do not carry a schedule book with me. The office does the scheduling. I asked her if she minded calling the office that I could not schedule from the field. She said ok and I did not hear back from her except from a voicemail. She called the office and the staff was doing there job by asking basic questions to know which one of our representives would be the best to send out there for her situation. She was put on hold while they found the file associated with her job. When they came back with the file she had hung up. The office staff called her back and apoligized for the hold and left a voice mail for her to call back that they had the information they needed to schedule the appointment. That was the last time we heard back from her untill I read this posting. We just had a Hurricane come thru here and the phones were ringing off the hook. We were trying our best to respond to everyone's needs. I honestly don't know how this could have gone any better on our end. I know people want to have there problems solved as quickly as possible but sometimes a little paitence goes a long way, especially after a Hurricane hits. I am sorry we have this reputation with this customer. We have been in business for 22 years and it is not because we treat people how the member has discribed.

From the very beginning Jim was fantastic to work with. We interviewed 2 other contractors and Personal Touch's price came smack in the middle. Going room by room, they took measurments and notes. When the estimate came in, everything we had talked about was accounted for in the pricing. Once work got started, all of my questions were answered without hesitation. They cleaned up at the end of each and every day. Work was completed on scheduled and the only extra expense was when my husband and I asked if they could add another project, which they did without hesitation, or significant price increase. Throughout the entire process, if I had a question or concern, all I had to do was contact JIm and he was right on it. He would either call me back during the same day or early the next. He was always friendly and incredibly helpful. Even now, several weeks later, I had something that came loose and needed to be repaired. I called Jim and he is sending someone over this week to fix it. After using Personal Touch, I am left wishing we had used them to update our house from the beginning. I honestly received much more than I bargained for.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of mudroom, structural repairs inside and outside, install closet doors, replace drywall in 2 bedrooms, repair our attempts at renovation in both bathrooms.

They were nice and came back twice but were very expensive. They were courteous and came back on time. I did not go with them only because of the price.

They were very professional. They came out three times. They first came to give an estimate for the water damage that I had upstairs and downstairs. They were great with the insurance company. I had to file two separate insurance claims for the water damage. They worked hand in hand with the insurance company, and I didn?t have to do anything. They were not bad at all pricewise and were very reasonably priced. They were very thorough too. They set up a containment unit inside the house and changed three vents on top of my roof. They did an assessment of water damage in my attic. They took down some of the drywall and replastered it. They were definitely worth it. I would recommend them.

Though we did not hire Personal Touch for this job, I would absolutely have them bid on future projects. Mr. Elgin was extremely professional and offered great suggestions for how we might approach the project. When we informed him that we were not going to accept his bid, he was very gracious and asked for our feedback on why so he could improve for future bids. He also very kindly offered to help fefer us to high quality local services that he uses (since we were new to town). This kind of professionalism is rare!!

Aaron and helper arrived on time and described in detail how he was going to perform his work. I told him my concern for the recent TV cable installation which was laid on the ground rather than suspended from the joists. He installed the 6 mil PVC vapor barrier in a complete and secure fashion, without disturbing the TV cable, and left the work area clean.

I liked that he was personable. He was accommodating and helped us select the fixtures that we needed. It only took 3 weeks to do the entire job. He offered us good advice and helpful suggestions. He lived up to his company name and was personal. He ensured customer satisfaction by replicating a broken tile for us. He did most of the work himself along with his assistant. He always kept us in the loop of information.

This company was so professional. They did an excellent job and did everything they could to help me when the contractor that built the cabinet in the kitchen, that did not allow for the dishwasher to fit properly. They arrived when they said they would and were pleasant and knowlegeable. They totally cleaned up after themselves and the work was neat and everything works the way it should. After a year of remodeling and some really bad experiences, this company was a pleasant relief. I highly reccomend them.
