I wasn’t extremely pleased, but their service was fine. With the faucets they weren’t installed properly at first. They did come back and fix it, but I feel they should have caught it the first time. The electrical issue was fine, but they tried to upsell me to something else. They weren’t really clear on the price they quoted till it was over. I was caught by surprise on the price.
Description of Work: I have called them on a couple of occasions. Once I called them to replace some faucets and once for an electrical problem.

They were very friendly. The persons who put in the unit for us were very professional. They walked us through what they were doing. It was kind of rushed because we were in an emergency situation. They did the best they could. I am currently not grading their quality because the inspector has not come yet. I was not real pleased with the internal communication of the company. I would get phone calls requesting payments when the job hadn’t been completed and then phone calls to have the inspector come out before the job was started. The office staff and the installers’ communication would be an F because they had no communication.
Description of Work: They changed out our AC unit. I also received a new handler and a heat exchange with a new coil.

Their service turned out very well. They came on time and on a short notice. They were a little pricy, but I would definitely recommend them.

The guy was very friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. He ran all of the needed tests and gave me some information. The cost was not discussed upfront but the price was a little high for the work performed. I wish I would have asked about the price up front. He had to do some minor things but stated everything looks great. He did give me a break down of the price but I think it was still pricey. I learned that I should have received more than one estimate in the future. Overall, it was a good experience.
Description of Work: I called them for a thirty one point inspection of my heating and ac unit.

I found the price to be extremely high. He originally quoted me the price of $1,400. I told him I would not pay that much and he then changed the price to $800. I still felt that was too pricey. He did a good job but I would not hire them again. I am actually having some problems with one of the toilets and will call him to return.
Description of Work: They repaired two toilets, installed a garbage disposal, and did other repair work on a sink.

They are responsive. You tell them what's wrong and they get it taken care of. They always send their best guy for the specific task at hand. They are always there when they say they will be there. Ryan is the worker that came out. He was informative and extremely helpful. He was fast also.

They fixed the problem, replacing burnt wiring and insuring light witch was secure. Our house is wired with aluminum wiring and the electrician knew exactly how to deal with it. Have had other electricians in past who did not know how to handle aluminum wiring which had resulted in outlet fires. Needless to say we have a very low opinion of electricians. Michael & Sons electrician was very knowledgeable and after asking a few more questions, he asked to look at electrical box and noticed all our switches were loose, which other electricians never checked. He took care of the box at no extra charge. Arrived on time. Very Professional. Answered all questions. Offered sound solutions. Would recommend them to others.

The sewage line and waterline backed up into the tub because of a blockage. So all my stuff from my dishwasher and garbage disposal was coming up the tub so they came and tried several methods to figure where the block was. They went to the roof and finally they went through the tub, fixed it and they left. We thought they were great. We recommend them. They were helpful, patient and definitely knowledgeable. We will use them in the future.
Description of Work: Five weeks ago we used Michael & Son Services Norfolk to unclog the block. We paid $128 for their services.

As a result of the first visit we had to have a portion of the piping under the house replaced for an additional charge of $500.00. One would think that after charging so much for the work done our toilet could have been put back straight.
Description of Work: The workman attempted to unclog the piping under our house. He was unsuccessful. The workman also replaced the seal to our toilet. The toilet was put back crooked.

overall i felt like a fool for paying for the stupid service agreement.i will never do that again.i think the best thing for a person to do when they need help is to ask around or check angies list for a good handyman in your area.they usally just charge you for there time and let you buy the parts you need or they do this for small fee.after the plumbing guy left with his 730.00estiment he gave me for faucet and leak at toilet that i said NO to.i went to lowes myself and got a faucet just like he showed me for 405.00 for 35.00 and installed it myself in 30.mins very easy to do.also he wanted 205.00 to( as he put it rebuild my toilet) all it needed was a 6.00 flapper that was worn out.lets see now they wanted 730.00to do what i payed 42.00 to do myself in 30mins.dam i saved688.00dollars maybe i should be handyman myself.i know companys have to make money on calls to pay the men and ins and med and ect ect ect but i mean dam this is just way way over priced for this little bit of work and parts.i also had to write a letter to them to cancel my service agreement.no calls or emails could be done to end this rip off agreement.another hassel to us the customer.these big companys sound great but they will rip you off and smile in your face while they do it.again i say find a good handy man in your area to help you .
Description of Work: my last meeting with this company was 5/27/2011 my first was5/16/2011.my first time with them was to check for leak on my a/c system.i work for company that has ref mechs but we were so busy at work i just decided after adding ref to system myself a few times in few months i would get them to check for leak.the guy they sent out was very nice and i was glad he just found a loose connection on my unit going into my home.what i did not like was the price i happen to know price of things and they are high priced.ex-they charged me 127.00 for the first ib of ref they put in and 82.00.00 for the other 2.i know that the price for a 30lb tank of r22 ref is 130.00 to 160.00.that means i paided209.00 for just 3 lbs i think this is terrible at this rate they have that means they charge 2000.00 for a jug of r22 that cost about 150.00 at the most them being such big company they will get a very good cost i am sure on each jug 30lbs.also what really gets me hot is i let the guy talk me into a home care agreement which cost me 99.00to start it and 30.00a month to keep it going.i was so stupid too do this its just a big rip off to us the customer.the guy made it sound like it would cover things like my a/c compresor and fan and start package.well few days after i gave them my 99.00+29.99 i read the small print on contract.{please never sigh one of these so called deals like i did]i found out they cover such things if and this is a big if only if it is still under warranty.what a idiot i was to sigh this.the only thing i see you get from this agreement is you feel obligated too call them with future promblems so again you can be overcharged for there service.on 5/27/2011 they called me to set up a plumbing inspection.(with the 99.00+29.99 i paid for service agreement you get one plumbing inspection and one elec inspection along with ac inspevtion i had with first service call.i decided too let them come do it since i wasted my hard earned money for this service.they sent a guy out to my house that found a dripping kit faucet ant my toilet tank was leaking.what happen next was he showed me a pic of a faucet to replace mine and he had a price of 405.00 for it and another 120.00too install it. also he said he would rebuild my toilet to fix leak for205.00.i was in shock, this faucet he wanted me to pay 525.00 to me installed was the cheapest he had he said.i told him no ty and after i said no he did not give me the plumbing inspection that i paid remember 99.00+22.99 for. he never looked at or tagged my hot wat heater like it said he would do in my service agreement he never inspected or tagged my water shutoff valve like it said he would do in my service agreement.and when he left my house he gave me his personal phone # and said call him any time if i decide to do service with them.i ask you why would i call him and not company??????????????.well he left and within few weeks i canceled my service agreement with them i wasted 99.00+ 2mts 60.00a month on this useless agreement.i emailed them and let them know this and about how my plumbing inspection was not done the way it was suppose to be done.silly me i was thinking since they did not do things like they should i would maybe get my 99.00back plus the 60.00 also but to this day they have not honorer there agreement and retured my wasted money to me.i told them i hope they choke on my money i wasted on this nightmare company.

This is not a typical situation we encounter often, the member referring to the cost of the refrigerant being higher than what he can purchase it at a local wholesaler for is correct but he leaves out the fact that it is a regulated product that needs to be handled and installed by CERTIFIED technicians and our price for this is included in the price we quoted before starting any work. He also makes mention of being talked into a home care agreement at a cost of 29.00 a month of which he could cancel at any time entitling him to recieve discounts on work he recieved. In addition to the Manufacturer reccommended cleanings our agreement includes most parts associated with both the inside and outside unit at no additional cost to the homeowner.(to my knowledge we are the only company in hampton roads that does this). As for the member's experience with our plumbing division we certainly failed to deliver great customer service he was entitled to,our plumber failed to give him additional options for his faucet which we train them to do, we certainly could have offered him a value rate repair on his aging toilet and did not. To further fail the member we did not tag his valves like we train our technicians to do.When I responded to his email asking him to allow me to make things right sending out a different plumber he responded he would have to think about it and asked me to follow up with him at a later date, When I followed up with him he was irritated that I called him back and when I asked if there was ANYTHING I could do to rectify the situation including apologizing to him for the way he was mistreated by us and given a FULL refund his response was he hoped we choked on his money and there was nothing we could do.Mr. Price makes several referances to just hiring a handyman at a cheaper rate to fix things and i couldnt disagree with him more,A consumer will always fare better having a trained proffessional in each trade work on their biggest asset than to trust it with a handyman that could damage their 5,000.00 heating and cooling system,or flood their home due to poor workmanshipin plumbing,or ultimately burn their house down due to not being properly trained in the codes of electricty. What i will agree with the member on is that he recieved less than what we normally deliver and he is entitled to making the situation right. We would love to change his opinion of our company or at least give him a full refund so he would not feel slighted.We no longer have this plumber employed with our company and have implemented new policies and procedures to help prevent this from happening in the future. As a reputable buisness with a strong sense of ethics what more can I do to help the member out? Scheduled appointment was completely missed. Called to find out why the appointment was missed, we were assured the tech was on his way and the service call charged was waived for the scheduling error. Don was the plumber that arrived and provided an estimate for the job. He made recommendations when we asked for them but was not pressuring us to buy anything. He answered all of our questions about all of the replacement options and explained the installation process if we chose to have the installation done. His professional and courteous manner made it easy to choose to do business with Michael & Son for the first time. The installation went exactly as explained and everything was cleaned up at the completion of the job. If it wasn't for the brand new water heater you never would have known they had been there.
Description of Work: Old gas water heater removed and hauled away. 50 gal electrical water heater, expansion tank, 3/4 ball valve installed as replacement in the garage of a single family home.

Quran came at the time he said he would and was very courteous from beginning to end. He basically ensured that his shoes were covered prior to coming in my house so not to dirty my carpet then he introduced himself and got right to work. Once done, he cleaned up the work area and let me know that he was finished and that he wanted to do a run-down of what he had just done. Overall, this was probably the best experience I have ever had in dealing with an electrician or any handyman for that matter. Quran was very professional, punctual and knowledgable. He didn't try to sell me something I didn't need, wrote out a detailed estimate/receipt and once the work was done, he ensured that I understood exactly what he did and how everything worked. I would definetly reccommend him to anyone that needs an electrician.
Description of Work: Installed whole house surge protection and electric panel. Also installed 2 Arc Fault breakers for my bedroom circuits.

Electrician came on time on Saturday for the initial assessment and estimate, he was very courteous, professional, and straight-forward. He came back on Wednesday, as scheduled, to complete the work, and did so in the estimated timeframe. The estimate provided was fair, and was a guarantee to cover the whole job, regardless of time involved. The company staff member who made the initial appointment for us was also very friendly. This company seems to emphasize customer service and professionalism, which is great to see, and the electrician we worked with did the job we agreed on to the standard we were expecting. Definitely recommend them for consideration for electrical work.
Description of Work: Run underground power to shed in backyard, install 2 outdoor outlets (1 in yard, 1 on fence), clean up attic wiring, annual maintenance on stand-by generator.

I originally called Micahel and Son to provide an estimate to replace my water heater exhaust flue which was old, rusty and had a hole; potentially causing carbon monoxide leakage into my house. My exhaust flue appeared to be jerry rigged from existing boiler exhaust parts and was in bad shape. Mike was able to come out the next day after calling (in the evening to support my work hours) and provided me a very thorough estimate for the flue replacement and some additional estimates at my request (no pushiness or excessive selling from Mike). After happily and professionally taking a follow-up phone call from me with questions at 9pm, I ended up having the entire water heater system replaced, which included replacement of the flue exhast. The actual service was scheduled immediately and occurred on a Saturday. The flexibility of hours without hidden or additional costs from Michael and Sons is worth it alone! That aside, this was undoubtedly the most professional, curteous, CLEAN, and timely service I have had performed at my house. Mike showed up exactly as promised and worked quickly but very thoroughly. He explained the system to me very well and as I am inquisitive on 'how things worked', patiently took the time to answer any and all questions I had. I've read other reports that their prices are a bit above average; and I agree that I found their quote just a bit above other quotes I looked at... but their QUALITY OF SERVICE was worth every single penny. Not to mention, being a larger company with their own supplier warehouse of needed parts, made for a very quick turn around in being able to install all the required venting as I have a unique space that needed to be worked with.

Thank you for your kind words,Id like to offer a reason as to why A/V wiring can be accomplished at a lower cost by other companies.We are professional electricians licensed and insured to perform work on high voltage systems that are capable of causing severe damage if not performed by a knowledgable tradesman.The A/V wiring you requested operates at a much lower voltage and does not have any applicable codes in which to adhere to,So in short no permits would need to be pulled or licensed tradesman needed to accomplish your task.Im sure we would perform a great job for you but also feel your in no danger of hiring an unlicensed tradesmen to perform the low voltage work.As long as he is not working on any high voltage wiring and your happy with the end result,we hope your job turned out well

The tech, Tom, showed up on time, put foot coverings on before going inside the house, and replaced the 17 receptacles. He had a drop cloth that he took from receptacle to receptacle, so that all trash would go on that instead of the floor, a nice touch. It was a bit disappointing to not receive an estimate prior to the tech's arrival, as I thought the price was a bit high. But, the work needed to be done, and my time window to take care of this was closing quickly, so my options were limited.
Description of Work: 17 two prong outlets were replaced in a fifty year old home, by 3 prong outlets.

They did very well. He was a nice guy. He made sure he came in with things on his feet. He was just aware of his surroundings I guess. He was a little expensive. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Michael & Son Services Norfolk for plumbing. I last used their services about a month ago. They unclogged the toilet.

Before my scheduled appointment with Michael & Sons, I unplugged my units to clean them. I didn’t plug them back in when I was done. On the day of our appointment, their so-called trained technician tried to sell me new units. He said they were broken beyond repair because he failed to realize they were unplugged. I called the office about this, and never heard back from them.
Description of Work: I hired them for service work.

After my handyman told me he had done all he could to turn the faucet off, I called Michael and Son on a Monday morning seeking repair of a leaking outdoor faucet and was pleasantly given an appointment for Thursday morning. The personable and efficient plumber arrived on time and prepared a written estimate for me, including the standard $29 fee for coming out. In conversation with me, he was advocating a homeowner's service contract; in fact, the way he arranged the figures for the repair with or without the contract made it look as if I would be saving $100 by going with the contract. After he finished the repair and left, I looked at the estimate more closely, noticed the arrangement of figures, and decided that, though very convenient, the yearly cost of this contract would be too expensive for me, anyway. So I called the next morning to let the Norfolk office know I had sent a certified letter to the corporate office in NoVa canceling the contract and would also send them a copy. The man I spoke with understood. As he assured me, there was no problem with my cancellation (within three business days) except that I had to call Norfolk again a week later to remind someone to send me the $90 refund I was due. The dripping faucet, which had been installed by another plumbing company 1 1/2 years ago, was an inferior brand that had been stripped by our trying to tighten it. The Michael & Son representative replaced it with one of better quality, did what he could to seat it more firmly in the brick wall, and answered a couple of plumbing questions for me. I liked him and his work. Though I think the cost was a lot for this small job, on that day I was willing to pay a little more to have it done right.
Description of Work: A dripping outdoor faucet, the metal of which was bent and its screwing surface stripped, was replaced with one of better quality.
