In 2017 we utilized Steve Croxton and his Metro Wood Works (MWW) team to remodel a screened-in porch. During that job he let me know they were rebranding their roofing division as roof757.com. Needing our roof replaced due to leaks (and to ensure I was picking the right roofing system/contractor), I contacted several companies to include MWW. Of the various bids, I saw a variety of knowledge, professionalism, and pricing in the bids. While much cheaper, I immediately eliminated the companies that hadn't been in business long or simply didn't explain their process/materials (as this is a long term investment). I narrowed it down to 3 contractors that used manufacturer backed warranties (Owings Corning & GAF). All three were professional and well trained in the sales process. After doing some research on GAF and their installer (not in business very long), I eliminated them and focused on the two Owings Corning contractors with MWW being one of the two. MWW's competitor was very polished during the sales process. He was so polished it was evident he was in sales previously and he admitted he had only been selling roofing for "a year or so." That was evident as it seemed he was making up answers to my questions. It was apparent he was there for the sale and would never be around again. He provided a price that was higher than anyone else, but then came back with the "we'll lower the price if you want to start today, etc." I don't like those tactics as it seems he was just lowering the price when I told him he was much more expensive (he couldn't explain why he was more expensive). He finally said he would bear anyone else's price (again, seemed desperate). We selected MWW based on our previous positive experience with them. Comparing all of the contractors, Steve's 30+ years in business was evident as he was the most knowledgeable. He explained the roofing system (as the three finalists did), but took the time to explain the technical detail of the technology behind the system and what is important and what isn't for our area. He was the only one that could truly answer why he was or wasn't recommending a particular option. As with the previous project, he communicated a projected start date and let us know anything that could change that date (rain). He was able to lock in the date and gave us notice so we could pull our pictures off the upstairs wall (he provided many suggestions like that). The materials arrived and the crew worked in sections just in case we received rain (which they were monitoring). I liked their process as I had seen a neighbor's roof completely removed and it rained that evening (they picked a budget contractor). They also do other things as part of their process such as check for obstructions in the attic (e.g. A/C lines, electric wires, etc.) that could cause issues down the road. They worked as diligently as possible to keep as much debris out of the yard by keeping everything clean. Unfortunately, a stray shingle did hit an outdoor side light and damaged the light (one of two matching lights). MWW immediately apologized for the issue and replace the light. They even took the extra time to ensure we were o.k. with both lights matching as they wanted us to be 100% satisfied. In speaking with another neighbor, their contractor (the one we didn't select) damaged several windows and siding and wouldn't fix the damage as "it was part of the process." I'm so glad MWW stood up and did the right thing! After the job was complete, the crew did a thorough sweep of the yard, landscaping, gutters, driveway, and even into our cul-de-sac. The owner even came back out for a Q&A inspection to ensure everything was picked up. I'm glad we selected MWW!
Description of Work: Roof Replacement by Metro Wood Works (a.k.a. Roof757.com)
My apologies for the long review, but I think Metro Wood Works (MWW) deserves it! We had a need for our screened-in porch to be remodeled. The contractor that previously built the porch didn’t use pressure treated wood nor did he take precautions to limit the amount of water that would flow onto the porch (it’s a slab and ended up being lower than our pool). This created a large amount of water damage. We received several bids from various contractors. From the moment Steve Croxton arrived onsite, he was able to diagnose issues with the original build and make recommendations (he was the only contractor to do so – the others simply asked what I wanted and bid the job on those specifications). Steve was very upfront on what they expected to encounter and communicated potential issues that may arise during a remodel (one never truly knows what is behind a wall!). Steve provided us with different options and explained the pros/cons to each option (to include price differences). I really liked having someone work with us on the design vs. being handed a cookie cutter design. Likewise, he was very open to us using another vendor for carpeting (as we turned it from a screened-in porch to a multi-season room with the Eze-Breeze windows he suggested). They had a backlog of work, thus couldn’t start immediately (I saw this as a positive as I always wonder about the company that can start a large job that day!). Steve provided status updates and started earlier than expected. With construction, I always worry about a good sales team that simply pitches the work over to a subcontractor and is non-existent until payment is due. Steve was onsite either all day or several times a day to ensure everything was running smoothly with his employees. We did run into a weather delay (not their issue) and he asked if he could bring in a subcontractor to work side-by-side with his team to get back on schedule. It was evident even his subcontractor was hand-picked as they worked as one unit. During the remodel, they found termite damage (once the siding and old sheathing was removed). They immediately brought it to our attention and provided options. They rearranged their schedules/tasks and worked with our new termite provider so they could ***** the situation. I liked that MWW readjusted to other tasks vs. leaving and going to another job. The termite repair required an entire window to be removed, framing replaced, the window replaced, and the inside plaster work redone. MWW completed the work and coordinated all of this to happen all in one day so the inside of our home wasn’t disrupted that evening. Most contractors would have left us with a piece of plastic over the window for days! The team member he used to fix the swirl plaster on the inside took his time and you literally cannot tell it was repaired (which is very difficult for swirl plaster work). A key item of a reputable company for me is problem resolution. During the planning phase, both Steve and I assumed on a color selection. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice the problem until the material was delivered. I brought it up to MWW and I was amazed how understanding they were (as we both assumed a different color). They could have easily been like most contractors and put that on the homeowner. Instead, they called the supplier and had my color choice delivered at no extra cost to me. I was not only impressed by this, but also how MWW took the time to point out how they document that selection on their new contracts to avoid any confusion in the future. I’m also firm believer in service after the sale. After completing our punch list and final payment, I noticed something I had pointed out verbally to the team (minor aesthetic item) that wasn’t completed. Most organizations would simply state the job was completed and request a change order for more $ to complete the work. MWW was out to my house within a couple of days to complete the task – no questions asked and were very polite. It's great receiving so many compliments on our porch!

Steve and Shane built us a 20' X 34' Trex deck with black aluminum railings and two sets of stairs. Construction took a little more than a week including the demolition and removal of our original wood deck, new concrete footers and framing. Trex is not inexpensive, However, it looks great, should require little or no maintenance and, there are no splinters! We're very satisfied with the deck and would hire Metro Wood Works again.

Steve and his team were awesome and reflective of the reviews on Angie's List and the personal recommendation I received. From the first meeting, I was impressed with Steve's professionalism, knowledge, patience, and interaction. We spent considerable time walking the yard and the old deck, discussing and iterating designs, talking about different materials, etc. He was timely in responding to emails and texts and clearly takes pride in his company and the work they do. I really liked that his crew only works one job at a time, so once they started, there were no delays due to issues on other jobs. They also use higher-end structural material (e.g., approved for ground and fresh-water contact) and fasteners (stainless steel and hot-dipped galvanized). His guys were very polite and friendly, happy to answer questions during the work, and even very nice to my dog, who loves to distract "new friends" demanding attention and affection. We were on a tight schedule as we were hosting a large party and wanted our deck finished before then. Although he couldn't make any promises, his guys came out on the weekend and he personally worked the job to ensure it got done. And it did - they finished the Friday before the party. His responsiveness, his team's professionalism, and the quality of their work were exceptional. I and my father, with a long history of construction experience, spent a lot of time watching them work. They were extremely detail-oriented and clearly committed to providing the highest quality results. They left a clean work site and made sure the deck was complete in every detail and respect before leaving. We truly couldn't be happier with the centerpiece of our backyard. I would most strongly recommend Metro Wood Works for deck work. The results speak for themselves. Although not the lowest cost of the companies I considered, I am confident that I made the right choice and have a deck that will last a lifetime and one that I will be very happy with in the years to come.
Description of Work: Metro Wood Works provided full-service deck design, demolition, and installation. Steve met with me several times to review deck design ideas, we exchanged numerous emails, and he spent significant time talking about design, materials, options, etc. After selecting a deck design and signing a contract, Steve and his team demolished the old deck, removed all materials, and installed a new, larger deck (~700 sq. ft.) using Wolf decking, including Trex rails and post and stair lights.

I showed Steve photos of what I wanted. He made suggestions of decking and railing options and I ended up using one of his suggestions instead. He was very patient and thorough in explaining and providing me exactly what I wanted. He did not rush through the job. He and his men cleaned up after the job every day. He provided exactly what I asked for and I could not be happier.
Description of Work: Resurfaced existing deck and columns with wolf decking products. Installed Trex Trancend Railing and gate around patio. Installed Trex led low voltage lighting on deck stairs.

I interviewed several contractors but decided to got with Metro because of Steve's presentation. The job was to begin some 7 weeks after contract sign. The job started on time. The crews were very professional. Work crews were at my home continually throughout the two week construction. Steve was a very hands on owner. He was at the site everyday-he was the hands on person when the new decking was applied to the foundation. Steve constantly communicated what the next steps in the process would be. The deck was completed on time at the agreed upon price. The work site was left completely clean. A very professional job-done right-and it looks fantastic.
Description of Work: Metro removed my old decking and foundation which was a multi level structure of approximately 900 square feet of pressure treated lumber and replaced it with a new foundation to support a design change and added new state of the art composite decking.

Steve and his team did an exceptional job. I provided them architectural plans that were drawn exactly to my desires which included everything from post depth to all dimensions of lumber to be used. Metro Wood Works took the time needed to build the pergola exactly to specifications while engaging me during the build as I asked questions. In fact, Steve refused payment until the job was complete and to my satisfaction, wow. They took out any bad pieces of lumber that was delivered as damaged. They gave me a choice of end cut design for the 2x6 cross beams. Mortise the post joints to horizontal I-beams perfectly. His crew was dedicated, professional and friendly throughout the entire process.
Description of Work: Build a pergola, approximately 14'x10', 7'8" clearance with posts sunk in ground anchored with cement.
Could not be more pleased! Steve arrived right on time to give me an estimate. I normally get 3 quotes but was impressed with his knowledge and experience and thought the price given was extremely reasonable. They had an opening and started the next day. Steve and his crew (5 guys total) showed up every morning at 8:00am on the dot and worked until after 5:00pm. They were very courteous, professional and cleaned up after themselves daily. It was evident the entire crew was experienced and knew what they were doing. The rail system was a custom design that they had no problem duplicating (you can tell Steve is quite the perfectionist!). Original project duration given was 3 days but it turned out to be 6 due to extensive concealed water damage. However Steve STOOD BY HIS ORIGINAL QUOTE despite the added time. Completed work was top quality! I will definitely be calling on them again for future projects!!
Description of Work: Upper balcony remodel: Removed existing roof surface and replaced damaged plywood. Replaced all wood posts with 6 x 6 vinyl posts. Built custom fir rail system. Replaced all trim on dormer windows with PVC trim. Painted all pieces to match. Also repaired rotted wood on french doors on back porch and painted.
