+ -1 moreLandscaper Kregg Deur first talked with me on the phone about our front yard beds and what we wanted done and what plants we wanted and did not want. He arrived at the free estimate with a plan and photos of bushes. He worked with me on what we liked and what would work in our area and in our beds. We had the estimate e-mailed to us the same day. His first available date for removal and installation gave us only a two day window before we left for a 2 week trip. Of course, the weather did not cooperate and it rained on both of those days. He did get most of the removal done and delivered the plants so we knew what they looked like and the placement of them. My husband and I discussed the fact that it would be over two weeks before we returned and Kregg would complete the job in just a few days. We decided to pay Kregg in full and he would complete the job while we were gone. When we returned, we were thrilled with the fantastic job he did. The bushes and treee that he installed are beautiful and the flagstone looks great. Kregg is an honest man and did everything exactly as he explained it to us. We are very happy. We will refer him to others and plan to use his services again.
Description of Work: Removed and disposed of existing schrubs. Planted new bushes, tree and installed mulch. Also installed raised flagstone around beds.

+ -1 moreVery nice man. Got there about 7 AM and started trimming bushes. I felt the bushes in the front of the house that were done by the employee were butchered. Not much left to them. I was under the assumption that the yard would be weeded, but it was just sprayed for weeds. Overall, not very satisfied with the price for what I got. they did clean up well though.. I find it amazing that they have no record of doing any work for me and of course they did not come to Texas. I lived in Chesapeake Va at the time....DUH. And they did start that early, as I was awakened by the sound of the guy cutting the bushes which was startling to me. They did not ring the doorbell, just started working.

+ -1 moreMr. Deur and his helper showed up when promised and did a fine job of trimming several wisteria, digging up several azalea bushes and mulching that side and also the existing garden on the other side. I gave him a general idea of the extra work I wanted done and he understood my vague ideas perfectly. He planted 2 new camellias and built me a retaining pond rock border around every area in the front of the house and along one side. We have already made plans for him to aerate and plant grass seed this fall. Very knowledgable and professional, he left everything in workmanlike manner. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's terrific!

+ 1 moreKregg responded almost immediately to an e-mail sent via Angie's List. He arranged to come out and view the site and provide an written estimate. He was personable, knowledgeable, and professional. It was obvious that he is really passonate about his work and takes it seriously. His crew arrived as scheduled and worked promptly on the project (installing pavers around the all the beds, installing a french drain to control erosion and spreading mulch in all beds). They completed much of the work the first day, but had some problems with their equipment. Unfortunately, the equipment ended up tearing up part of the lawn. They made efforts to repair the lawn, but unfortunately the lawn is still a bit torn up. The work was completed the second day and they cleaned up all of the work areas. The frency drain and the pavers look great! However, the mulch is spread a bit uneavenly in a number of the beds. Also, we had recently planted perrenials in the front beds and many of these plants were completely covered by the mulch. We should be able to salvage them, but clearly not the level of attention to detail that we would have liked. Overall, a good experience, but not stellar performance. Sorry Kregg.
Description of Work: Complete already started installation of a french drain system (to control erosion) and complete installation of pavers blocks around all landscape beds. Cover all landscape beds with hardwood mulch.

+ -1 moreIt went great. I had purchased a Groupon for their services and Kregg came out and talked to me about the plants and trees in the yards and what would be done when he came back out. They replied quickly to my email to set an appointment. Today Kregg and Ryan were here to remove the brush and tree limbs and spray for poisonous plants. Kregg is very personable and I had a good time talking to them and learning more about whats in the yards. They did what I needed done which saved me time and a trip to the ER for the poisonous plants and when it cools off a bit I'm going to give them a call back to do some landscaping. I'm extremely pleased with their work and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: Kregg and Ryan removed a bunch of overgrowth I had at a home I just started renting as well as sprayed for poison ivy and and removed some storm damaged tree limbs.

+ -1 moreWhen first meeting with Kregg, it was obvious from the start that he was not only incredibly knowledgeable about plants and landscaping, but passionate about it. We were looking for help in cleaning up our existing landscape and adding hardy plants and a little bit of color to our yard. Kregg immediately had helpful ideas and understood exactly what we were looking for. He was easy to work with, communicated with us very well, and we knew upfront the details of his plan. Kregg was also kind enough to email pictures of our finished yard as we ended up having to rush to the hospital to have our daughter before the project was completed. I've also emailed him questions since then and received prompt and helpful replies. We are hoping to possibly do a little more work in our backyard and would hire Kregg again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Pruned existing bushes, removed four troubled plants and one bush. Adjusted shape and size of front bed along house and two smaller beds around existing trees with landscape wall blocks. Removed gravel and stone from main bed and two smaller beds, installed new mulch and disposed of all debris. Planted tree, bush, and 24 small plants.

+ 0 moreAfter calling Kregg to give me an estimate on yard work, he came out the same day. He was very professional and courteous. We agreed that he would deliver and install 16 cubic yards of dark brown, hardwood mulch in the front and back yards. He was also to remove one tall holly tree, and prune another one. He e-mailed me the estimate. It took a few weeks for him to be able to do the work, since he was pretty much booked solid. On May 31st he showed up around 8:30 with a young man to help. As he started I asked him to also take out another very large pittosporum bush. We had talked about this on the day he came out to make the estimate. Kregg said it was no problem and simply added that to the bill (another $120). He and his helper took down the holly tree and pittosporum and installed the 16 yards of mulch that were delivered that morning. The weather was brutally hot, with temperatures in the low 90s. Yet, the two men worked dilligently, and were done at 2:30. The yard looks beautiful with a nice thick layer of mulch. The holly and pittosporum were taken down to ground level. Because of the extensive root systems near power lines and cable, the roots were left and treated with a liquid that will make them rot away over time. I am very happy with the work they did. K&J is not the cheapest of the landscapers out there, but you pay for quality and they certainly are worth every penny. They do give a 10% discount on labor for Angie's List members, so that helps. They did an excellent, honest job, and I will definitely consider them for future yard work.

+ -1 moreWe couldn't be more pleased. Kregg is very professional and upfront about what he'll do, how he'll do it, how long it will take and what it will cost. Everything that he said upfront is exactly how it played out in the end. Kregg and his helper showed up on time, were friendly and hard-working, didn't seem to mind when I popped out rather often to see how things were going and to make suggestions (grin). When finished they cleaned up our yard and the area of the street where they had parked (thank goodness for that--our neighbors are fussy!). Kregg actually picked up individual river stones that had fallen on the grass instead of in the rock garden and put them where they belonged. When Kregg planted the blueberry bushes a few weeks earlier, it was the same. He showed up on the day he said he would, let himself in, brought sand to amend the clay soil, planted exactly where I placed the markers, and mulched them with some left-over pine garland from Christmas (it was pretty the way he did it ... he encircled each blueberry with a weed-stopping fortress in the shape of a wreath). Everything was clean and as it should be when I got home, and he emailed the bill that evening. This is the best service experience we've had since moving to the Hampton Roads area in 2005.
Description of Work: We started off by emailing a photographic list of heavy-duty landscaping tasks for our front, side and back yards. Tasks included making flower beds and rock gardens using commercial grade fabric and edging, removing weeds and re-planting the area of a flagstone walkway, and planting/transplanting four small shrubs. Kregg brought a copy of our list when he came out to do his estimate and used it to make a lot of notes from our discussion. He recommended starting with the front yard and tackling the rest in a subsequent estimate which was a good idea. Before the scheduled job started, we received two blueberry bushes in the mail and Kregg was good enough to come out and plant them (the ad hoc fee was $40). We ended up paring down our list of tasks for the front yard after reviewing the initial price and Kregg was very good about working with us on that. When Kregg and his helper showed up to work on the front yard, they completed every task we had agreed on plus a few extras: They trimmed our holly bush (in the rock garden area), trimmed the suckers off our cherry tree (the center of one of the new flower beds), rescued a knock-out rose whose tap-root had blocked the drainage hole in its container and re-planted it in our backyard (a completely spontaneous task), and used a small strip of left-over edging to extend the rock garden to where the container sits. There was one other big extra. I had purchased a Japanese maple tree from McDonald Garden Center and scheduled with them to plant it before the date when K & J would be out to do their work. McDonald's original schedule was 2 to 3 weeks. In the 3rd week, McDonald said they couldn't schedule it until at least week 4. Kregg offered to plant it so I cancelled delivery from McDonald and arranged for Kregg to pick it up. He charged me exactly what McDonald would have charged me ($139) and didn't add anything for his travel or gas mileage even though the location was several miles out of his way.

The work was scheduled and after looking at the estimate I called and made a couple of changes that I noticed were not in the estimate. The work was done on the scheduled day. I was not happy at first as it didn't look like I expected. I contacted the owner and he promptly came the next day and fixed everything to my satisfaction. You really can not expect better service than I was given and will recommend him to anyone! I even got a 10% discount for being a teacher!!!!
Description of Work: Trimmed bushes in front yard, removed one large bush and planted smaller ones, Removed an old garden and arbor and planted crepe myrtles, nandinas, and junipers. Transplanted several existing plants, cleaned out existing pond and got it working, moved pavers to create a walkway. Put down grass seed where the garden and pavers used to be and mulched all areas.

+ -1 moreI had received a quote from K&J for a biweekly lawn service for a lawn less then a third of an acre. Quoted price was $40 a visit plus $90 for the first visit which would include aerating and fertilizing. Wanted to hold off on the contract until a service visit was performed so I asked K&J to just come by for a one time visit. I was then told that though the basic lawn service includes yard edging, that would not be done on my visit becuase it was not a contract visit and the edging would, "take too long". Was very disapointed to hear that their prices were not standard. The kind of service you get for a given price depends on whether or not your are a contract customer.
Description of Work: Lawn aereation and fertilization to include a basic mow.

Description of Work: I needed landscaping services and saw several here in Angie's List. After reading through several reviews, I picked K and J Landscaping services. I emailed K & J informing them of my interest in their company and the type of services I needed for my front lawn. Kregg responded within minutes even though this was late at night. Through email we were able to set up a date for him to come and do an estimate. He arrived promptly on the date agreed upon and was very receptive to my ideas and gave his ideas as well and we came up with a plan and price that was both within his capabilities and within my budget. We then set a date for the project. He and his crew came on time and went to work right away. They cut down a dead tree in my front lawn, trimmed three trees and three bushes. Then they also pulled out two large bushes and cleared/ demolished the front bed. They installed landscape edging, put down brown mulch and planted 3 Nandina's, 3 Liriope's and one sky pencil holly. Through all of this, clean up was also being done so they weren't waiting until the end of the job so the yard was kept very clean. Very happy with the outcome of the job, their efficiency and professionalism.

+ 0 moreI first requested an estimate on getting a strip of my yard landscaped due to a requirement by the city of Virginia beach. I had to have the estimate because my chain link fence had to be replaced due to an accident. According to zoning regulations not in effect at the original fence installation, the fence had to be moved in 5 feet and landscaping installed. I needed the estimate to get repayment by the insurance company. I emailed multiple companies on Angies list, but only one responded. K&J Landscaping answered all of my emails and provide me with an estimate. I went with K&J and everything went very smoothly. K&J came out and we went over a choice of shrubs. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. After deciding on the shrubs, he put in the order and a couple of weeks later installed the shrubs on the day that he had promised. One of the shrubs has started showing signs of heat/wind damage, but with the drought that is to be expected. And K&J has offered to replace it if it dies. Overall they shrubs look good. I have already had some of my neighbors tell me how nice it all looks. I would definitely use them again.

+ -1 moreWe had a terrific experience with K&J. We were kind of picky about the mulch that we wanted and Kregg came by our house with samples to choose from, and to give us an estimate. We set a date for the work to be done, and they showed up right on time. They were friendly, professional and kind to my two children. We had a lot of landscaping to mulch and they didn't skimp anywhere, it looks amazing and I couldn't be happier. Kregg also gave me good advice about how to maintain some of the plants and bushes in our yard and recommended what to put in an empty shady space that I wasn't sure what to do with. He saved me hours of research by sharing his expertise for free! I will be using them for not only future mulch needs, but any landscaping needs in the future.
