I contacted this company to replace the caulking around two problem windows and give me an estimate to re-do the caulking round the remaining windows on the house. I was immediately (less than 24 hours) contacted by the company when I sent in a request for estimate. The person who contacted me from Jayhawk indicated that the workers control their own schedules and that I would be contacted soon to setup a date/time for an estimate. About an hour later she called back to find out how I heard about the company. I told her I got them from Angie's list. I was contacted the following day by the guy who was supposed to do the work. We set up a date/time to do the estimate. He arrived within 30 minutes of the agreed time. We walked around the house and he reviewed he work that needed to be done. About 4 days later, he contacted me with an estimate for the two problem windows but said he couldn't provide an estimate for the other windows until he completed the first two. I agreed to the estimate for the two windows and we scheduled a date to perform the work. The day before the agreed date, I received a phone call from the person performing the service stating that because of the weather, he would have to to delay the work until Memorial Day. I agreed that we had been having an excessive amount of rain and I understood the delay in the schedule. Memorial Day came and went and I didn't see the Jayhawk worker. An additional week has passed and I haven't heard from Jayhawk. If they were unable or unwilling to do the job then they should have told me so at the beginning. I've wasted over a month dealing with this company. NEVER AGAIN!!! UPDATE: The company's response to my rating is filled with inaccuracies. Before I get into it, let be say they are correct, no work was performed and the timeline up to the estimate was accurate.. My review stated as much. The review is for total experience, not just the timeline leading up to the date the work was scheduled. Up to that point, your company would have received a fairly positive response. Now the facts: 1. Client stated that the builder sent out a contractor twice within the first year to fix the leak (the house is now 7 years old). 2. Client never stated he "repeatedly called the builder". That was made up by the JayHawk employee. 3. The neighbor that was identified owns a masonry company. As a nice neighbor, he provided "brick" sealant a few years ago to eliminate the possibility of water coming through the brick. 4. Client never said another neighbor had a similar leak. He said another neighbor removed and replaced the brick on the front of their house. The reason why is purely speculation. 5. JayHawk did asked someone came out to look at the roof. The answer was yes...the insurance company sent a roofing contractor out. That contractor is in fact on Angie's list. They did ?confirm? it was not a roof leak. 6. Really? After inspecting the caulking you found found no openings? Good thing you didn't do the work because you don't have to be an expert to see it. Why would you say you would do the work if you didn't see a real problem. 7. JayHawk NEVER suggested that the leak could be the roof. In fact they said it likely was not the roof because the stains are on the window casing not the ceiling. 8. Scheduled the job based on MUTUAL availability. Client was available several days the same week the estimate was provided. 9. JayHawk's employee did call on 5/24 to reschedule the 5/25 appointment due to work backups from all the rain during the week. He said, "I need to complete the work in the order that it came in". The Client understood and agreed to a schedule change. The JayHawk employee said he could do it on 6/28 (Memorial Day). The Client told him that he already had plans. The JayHawk employee said, "We normally like for the homeowner to be home so we can get paid after the work is complete, but I go ahead and do it then get up with you later." 10. JayHawk never called client to confirm on 5/27/12 (and he had no reason to). No message was ever left. 11. JayHawk never called on 5/28/12, did not leave a message, and did not show up. 12. Four days later, after not hearing from JayHawk, the client posted a review of JayHawk Exteriors. Three days after the posting a letter was left on the Client's door with the company's response you see below (along with a business card from the owner saying call me ASAP). The day after the letter was left, the owner called the Client to "encourage" him to change his review. JayHawk went as far as to say he was *paying* his phone company to pull detailed records to turn over to his attorney because he was going to sue the Client for slander. TO JAYHAWK ("Chili"): I have over a dozen people who work for me (one of whom knows you personally). You have to have people that you can trust. You have to believe what they tell you. How is that saying...trust but verify? The problem is that your guy was not truthful with you. He told you what he needed to to cover his hind-end. If you wanted to make things right when you called, you should have listened to me, gotten the facts, then gotten a different worker to complete the job; not try to strong-arm me to change my review. My employee knows most of your guys (but not the one you sent to my house) and he said they are generally hard workers. My guy feels that you are an honest guy who has been lied to by an incompetent employee. You are correct. I told your guy that I might not be there when the work was done on Memorial Day. If that was unsatisfactory, then he should have picked a different day. But he didn't. He said he would do the work and if I weren't there, he'd get with me later. Maybe he didn't get the memo on your company policy. And honestly, were you really going to test for a leak before the caulk cured? Had you taken a moment to listen to me when you called instead of threatening me, you could have averted the negative review. Before I selected your company, I read a review from a lady whom you characterized as being unrealistic and impossible to satisfy. After going through this process with you, I believe she was probably right and you were in the wrong. For the record, these are the FACTS based on ME being there, not second hand information providing my an incompetent guy trying to save his rear. According to the Angie's List Membership Agreement, JayHawk is in violation for accuracy.

PLEASE NOTE: NO ACTUAL WORK WAS PERFORMED FOR THIS CUSTOMER – Time Line of events: Client email request to Jayhawk: Sunday 5/6/12 Client info to repairman : Monday 5/7/12 12:34 PM Call #1 to client 5/7/12 4:53 PM Left Message Call #2 to client 5/8/12 2:57 PM Left Message Client responded 5/8/12 4:56 PM Set appointment for 5/9/12 - time slot 8am to 11am Arrived at property at approx. 9:45 AM Estimate request #1 Windows leaking - remove/replace caulking at (2) front windows at front side of home.. Estimate request #2 Remove/replace caulking for all windows around entire perimeter of home. Met with client 5/9/12. Client stated that he has had his home builder out several times to correct problem with leaks over the last 3-4 years regarding (2) front windows. Upon inspection, found that the builder had caulked over existing caulking for all windows, 2-3 times without actually stripping out old caulking. Leaks have persisted. Client could not get windows repaired properly & is very frustrated with builder. Client states he would repeatedly call builder up to the point when his builder warranty expired. Client stated the builder would send someone out just to “pacify” him. Client stated he had several contractors out to look at issues including a neighbor who lives across the street from his home. Client stated he had the neighbor seal the brick grout lines with concrete sealer. No resolutions. Stated that another neighbor had a similar leak & went as far as removing & replacing all the brick around the front section of the home which resolved the problem. Asked client if he had someone look at the roofing areas. Client stated he had his insurance company come out & they “confirmed” it was not a roof leak or an issue with the brick work. Asked again if he had a roofing contractor inspect the roof, client again stated that his insurance company confirmed no roof or brick issues. Inspected the front window areas & found the caulking to be rather sloppy but found no openings to determine it was in fact the windows. Suggested to client that it is possibly the roof causing the leak due to the areas of water staining on the interior. Again client stated that his insurance agent inspected & confirmed that it was not a roofing or brick issue. (Based on past experiences, insurance agents are not extremely knowledgeable with construction methods and have little to no actual hands on building experience.) Gave client 1st quote to strip out & replace the caulking at the (2) front windows only. - Actually would be (3) small windows with a 1/2 moon top & (3) windows all framed & pictured for $325.00 Gave the client the initial quote for these windows in order to confirm that this was the actual problem. If this stopped the leak, the 2nd quote for the additional (26) windows would follow. He was told we did not want to do all (28) windows at the same time based on the fact that we could not determine if the first set of windows were in fact causing the leak, or if it was originating from another source - Client agreed to go with this option. Scheduled job based on clients schedule. He was not to be home or available till the 4th week of May - the week of 5/21 – 5/27/2012. Set appointment for 5/25/12. Called client on 5/24 & reset appointment due to inclement/rainy weather on that day. Stated we would try for 5/28/12. Called client to confirm on 5/27/12 at 10:00 AM (Sunday) never received call back for confirmation. Light rain falling early AM 5/28/12 called client again on 5/28/12 at 8:45 AM. Client did not respond. Left message for him to call back & confirm appointment - never received a return call. NOTE: During phone call to client after his report was posted to discuss matter further, we respectfully requested him to reconsider the statements made in his as we feel that perhaps, out of frustration, he was not straightforward with his recollection of events regarding this matter. He stated that his report was exactly what happened and that he told repairman he could not be there and for him to just come out to take care of it. We tried to explain to him that our company policy is that someone must be present at the home for us to be on their property, especially in this case – with a window leak, we must be able to access interior in order to determine he exact origin of the leak. This is the accurate account as to what transpired, with all times and dates documented per emails, phone call logs and notes on file, as is our normal procedure. Jayhawk Exteriors takes great pride in our work, with customer service being our number one priority and a subject we do not take lightly. We have built our reputation on being honest, affordable, reliable and standing behind our work 100 percent.

They did a superb job, and I recommend this company without reservation.
Description of Work: Jayhawk won a competitive bid to provide a new roof on a 1400 sq ft rancher. Jayhawk is a precision team. They began work about 7:30am and was completed by about 3:30pm. At 7:30, a truck arrived with the roofing materials and a team of 4 roofers arrived about 2 minutes before the truck. The worked like beavers and worked through lunch even though I bought them a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. They cleaned up after the roofing was completed, including using a magnet to detect any nails that might be in the grass.

Great company to work with from start to finish. Contacted them due to their stellar reputation on Angie's List and they did not disappoint. Arnie initially provided an estimate in the fall, but due to deployments I had to delay until recently. He came back out and reverified everything and essentially gave me the same price originally quoted even though costs had gone up. Within two days Arnie contacted me to set up the date for installation and his guys arrived right on time and did a great job with the installation and they even found a spot on the roof that needed attention which they fixed. Overall a phenomenal company that I highly recommend and will use again myself, thanks!

When I called and explained the problem I was having during rain storms, I was laughed at for saying I didn't want a gutter installed. The window where the problem exists is in the middle of my roof and I didn't want to run a drainage pipe down my roof because it would look rather poor. There are several other options available and I just wanted to speak to someone about them. They took my name and number and never called me back. The receptionist had some attitude on the phone and implied I didn't know what I was talking about. I am not a gutter expert, but I do my research before hand.

Response from Jayhawk Exteriors Inc
We believe the homeowner may have us confused with another company, which sometimes happens when calling numerous companies for quotes. The person who called Jayhawk Exteriors was not the Mrs. Home owner, but the Mr., and when recording the reason for the call, it was explained by him as a window problem – gutters were only mentioned as a side note (that there were none existing). He explained that this was a wood shake home and the problem he was having was water dripping off a window onto the exterior sill – making noise, and he wanted to know if there was any remedy for this. For this reason, the lead information was given to our window representative who called Mr. home owner to schedule an appointment, but never received a response from him. No one at Jayhawk Exteriors ever spoke with the Mrs. Home owner.

Jayhawks estimator gave us a low estimate. He realized it was too low and tried to change it to a higher price by saying he had not included our garage. This was not true. The length of ridge vent required for the house and the garage was denoted correctly on the estimate form indicating we had indeed talked about it. We felt this was dishonest and did not want to do business with a company that permitted dishonesty to customers.

Response from Jayhawk Exteriors Inc
Jayhawk Exteriors met with the members on a Friday in September. The Mrs. had another appointment that day and had to leave. After measuring and performing roofing and ventilation inspections, the estimate was composed and given to the member's husband. Later, after reviewing the estimate it was discovered by the estimator that the garage measurement was inadvertently omitted. When she called back on Monday, the estimator began to inform her of the omission, at which time she said goodbye and abruptly hung up – leaving the estimator no opportunity to complete his statement - that although there had been an error in his calculation, there would be no additional charge, and the contract price submitted would be honored. Unfortunately, she was never aware of this fact as she made it quite clear that she no longer desired any further communication with Jayhawk Exteriors. At no time was there ever any request for additional money – to the contrary, Jayhawk Exteriors would have honored the estimate as presented to the homeowner and absorbed whatever deficiency the omission would have caused. It is regrettable that the homeowner misinterpreted the estimator’s effort to be honest by informing her of his error, and for her to misconstrue his communication as an attempt to be dishonest. Jayhawk Exteriors takes great pride in our work and customer service is a subject we do not take lightly. We have built our reputation on being honest, affordable, reliable and standing behind our work 100 percent. As anyone who researches Jayhawk Exteriors can plainly see, our Angie’s List customers are a very high priority. This is supported by the fact that we are an Angie’s List Super Service Award Winner in roofing for the last four years consecutively, and three-time winners in Gutters and Siding.

I was so pleased with the work they did and would have them inspect my roof in the future to make sure that it is maintained well. They were prompt, finished in their specified time-frame, and there were two people for the estimate and they both returned for the work on my roof. It was pleasant working with them and I would highly recommend them to others. They weren't pushy in any way, even when I mentioned that I had other companies coming for estimates later in the week. They could have worked that day but rescheduled to work around the estimates I had already planned.
Description of Work: Demetrius came and gave an estimate for work that needed done on my roof after walking it (I have a steep roof), and they performed some repairs for me a few days after because I had already scheduled other estimates and wanted to be fair to those companies.

Country came to our rental house to meet with my husband to estimate. He then made another trip to our home to meet with me to help make material choices. He was able to work the pricing for what we wanted to generally stay within our budget. They started promptly and finished promptly with no major issues. Most of the crew could not speak English and that was a barrier we didn't care for, but anything that was brought to Country's attention was handled (such as crushing the tenants flowers or working around their schedule). They cleaned up after themselves very well and were a very friendly crew. At the final "walk thru" they addressed just about all of the issues we had. There were a few small things that were disappointing but we were able to let them go (such as a few trim spots that were broken in the demo that we have to repair) because we were happy with the overall job and are easy enough for us to handle ourselves. We discovered chimney issues during the roof demo and they were able to work around the area until the chimney folks could fix the problem. The place looks great and we are hoping there are no water issues that will show up down the road, but for now they did a great job.

Overall, it couldn't have been better. I particularly liked Country Higgins who gave me an estimate and directed the project. He was an exceptional person. He was gentle, kind, and answered every imaginable question I asked without losing his patience. He carefully took a lot of time with me and I feel like I have some knowledge about roofing after going through this project. The price was reasonable and the product was of high quality with a warranty. They also found some problems that another company did not catch in their estimate. I'm glad I used them because they saved me money and did a great job. They cleaned up beautifully afterwards, removed debris, and used magnets to pick up any loose nails. I'm really impressed with the materials they used and I would recommend them to anybody.

Some of our gutters and downspouts could not handle heavy rains resulting in overflowing gutters and flooding in the basement. We wanted to install oversized gutters and downspouts with extensions to correct this problem. Arnie, the estimator, was extremely knowledgable/professional and suggested we only replace certain gutters/downspouts but not all (astehtically, I wish we would have replaced them all). The written estimate was $550 for 3 gutters and 7 downspouts. The gutter screens (for some of the gutters) were an additional $$425. Total: $975. On Nov. 14, I gave Arnie the go-ahead to start this job and he said they would start at the end of that week. By the first of Dec. I hadn't heard from anyone so I called to check on the status. I was told it would probably be the next day that they'd get started. About eight days later, on Dec. 9, Arnie called to say they would start that morning which they did. Because of lack of parts they left and did not return to complete the job until Dec. 13. They look great.

Received a call from the company to get the initial repair request. I was contacted by their repairman and we arranged to look at the repair job. Material was required and he obtained thematerial and then called back to set up a good time for the repair. He arrived early and completed the work, even went as far as to correct a few mistakes from the original installer. He walked around the house to ensure no other trim metal was loose or damaged. Cleaned up and ensured I was happy with the job before he presented me with the bill. The original estimate and final bill were as agreed with no surprises. Outstanding work. I will be calling JayHawk again in the future forany other work I require.
Description of Work: Replaced some roof trimwork that had been damged by high winds.
