I was very pleased with the service. I was moving just a few miles, but needed help with the heavy stuff. I'd had less than pleasant experiences with long distance movers in the last couple of years because I don't have much to move except lots of boxes of books. When I called, Elizabeth was very courteous and friendly and assured me that their company would be more than happy to move heavy boxes because that is their job. She was able to arrange a time for pick up that suited me and it was very pleasant to talk to her. On the day of the move, the truck didn't show up at the expected hour and, after half an hour, I called Elizabeth and went to voice mail. Less than five minutes later, Matt Brown, the owner of the company, called me and apologized profusely for not being there on time. He said they had third party routing system that sent the schedules to the drivers. The drivers knew they had three moves, but only two came through on their schedule and called him. He said the whole office had been trying to find who and where the third pick up was and when I called they were immediately able to identify me. He asked if I could still get the pick up that day and I told him I would be there all day. He said he would call his employees and get right back to me. Another five minutes and he was back with me and rescheduled the pick up. Even with all the delay and confusion, the drivers were at my door about an hour and a half later than the original pick up time. They also apologized and were very courteous and professional. I have some family furniture and paintings that are very old and fragile and they were very careful to wrap it and protect it. They even thanked me for my concern for them because I had put my library in smaller boxes so they wouldn't be so heavy. They wrapped and moved my stuff, carted it upstairs to my new second story apartment, unwrapped and placed it where I wanted and were done in about two hours. Matt took 20% off the cost of the move for the delay which I didn't request and was very generous. One thing that impressed me was that the employees of the company seemed very loyal and dedicated. They were as upset about the delay as was Matt and wanted me to know that's not how they do business. I think employers who take such good care of their employees are much more likely to take very good care of their customers. I would highly recommend Helping Hands to anyone it the Hampton Roads area who needs a local mover who cares.
