This was a big deal purchase. It was the worst experience I have ever had. I was told by Angie's List that if I had not heard from them within a certain period of time I was to call them. I called them and spoke to some kind of manager saying I had not spoken to them and that I wanted to arrange a date when the work could be done. He told me he did not have the schedule in front of him and that he would get right back to me with one half hour. I never heard from him. Hours later I called again and he still was not prepared for it. When they finally sent someone it was a kid who I don't think ever did this kind of thing. He was probably a clean up person. He did one of the worst jobs and made such a mess. All I had was a job that would take an experienced person all of 15 minutes to do. The contract called for three hours of this, whatever. The kid that came in here never took the shower doors off. He had a cheap little red razor that he used to go all around taking off the old caulking and did such a sloppy job. The red went off onto my tile; it was like a red border all the way around it. Then he started to do the caulking and I could see immediately that he did not know what he was doing because he kept stopping, like, every second and it was like popcorn, big thick pieces of it. I could not believe it. He started to try to clean it off. After he left I called the same service manager and I told him. He went on to tell me that the person that came out was no longer with them. Then he came to do it and also did a sloppy job. It was really bad, I am not exaggerating.
Description of Work: I used them for caulking.

Gibraltar was too busy with other jobs at the time, and he wasn't responsive enough. He gave us an estimate and then we were trying to get more information as we were getting other estimates, and I could not always reach them. The day they were supposed to come the first time, they did not showing up because the car broke down. We did not follow up because if we were having problems before the service, we would have a problem after we paid them. They were fair in pricing. We called two other companies, and they were about the same price, although Gibraltar's measurement of area was off, and so they calculated more area, and the quote was more, but once they corrected the area, they were fine. We had also purchased a big deal for backsplash, but because of their incorrect measurement, and non-responsiveness, we decided not to go with them for both. It is difficult to contact them, but I cannot judge their work because there was nothing done.
Description of Work: They quoted for granite counter tops and backsplash.

I honestly don't recommend them for anyone. We were using their service right after Christmas time in January. They did the bathroom remodel but it was a horrible experience. They told us to refund the big deal to get the credit through them and not to do the big deal. They offered us the same price. He kept adding stuff to the price and that was part of the problem. There were stuff that was added that was not discussed with us. There were stuff that he charged us for that they didn't even give. They didn't finish the job correctly. I have guys that are coming in this weekend to fix the drywall that he refused to fix. We started this at the end of October and it was supposed to be a 2-3 week project. His guys weren't showing up. When they were showing up, they were leaving early and the were constantly late.

They left the job half done. They were scheduled for Monday and rescheduled for today but no show.
Description of Work: Half of the upstairs bathroom floor old ceramic tiles are removed with the foundation all messed up. Half of the floor is there, old cement and under flooring is there from the middle of the room and left it that way. There's no toilet and the downstairs, they put the tiles in but they did not put the grout and left a few pieces undone as well. They pulled the sink out and they can't put the sink back so I have to but a new sink. They put the toilet in wrong and it leaked and I had to get a plumber to fix it on Sunday.

If I could choose the categories, I would have graded Gibraltar, the general contractor I hired, in a slightly different way; the grades above reflect the performance of Gibraltar/Earth Stone as applied to this job. As the General Contractor, they hired the sub (Earth Stone) and are therefore responsible for completing the work, however I access their only failing grade (F) was in vetting and hiring Earth Stone. In my opinion, Gibraltar's business model also needs some work (C) and upper management needs to take more responsibility for things going wrong (C). I did have to pull information out of the company most of the time, but Robert Day, the project manager, was helpful and I believe sincere throughout the process. Bottom line: Very unsatisfied with the counter tops that were installed. Also very unhappy with the sub-contractor, and their professionalism as a company. Earth Stone management was untruthful, uncooperative, and attempted to pressure my wife into accepting a result that was unacceptable to us, specifically a counter with two sections that did not match (granite from different stones, counter top thickness was different) and was not the correct size (too narrow). More detail: Earth Stone had to come to the house four different days, could never provide us with even an approximate arrival time, and came once unannounced/unscheduled (we were not home) and failed to show at all on another scheduled day. After cutting the counter tops the wrong size on the first attempt, I believe that Jeremy at Earth Stone made a decision to not re-cut the largest piece, the peninsula, in order to cut his losses. When we called him on it, he fabricated a story instead of a properly sized and matching counter top. The three new countertop pieces were cut from different stone with different thickness and grain. Through Gibraltar, Earth Stone offered a $300 discount if we would accept the narrower counter top. We agreed because they promised (though I was skeptical) they could successfully blend the two mismatched pieces. I accepted the offer in writing with the stipulation that we must be satisfied with the result. We were not happy with the result and now Earth Stone has refused to do any more work.
Description of Work: If this review is published, it means, among all other things detailed below, Gibraltar did not honor their promise to provide a full refund. Gibraltar Group Remodeling and Construction hired a sub-contractor, Earth Stone, to remove old laminate and install new granite counter tops in our galley kitchen. The subcontractor turned out to be substandard and we now have mismatched counter tops that drive my wife crazy every time she looks at them. Our kitchen remains a mess as we await resolution on the counter tops before proceeding with other planned work: new back splash, painting and cabinet restoration.

The walkway is a great improvement to the old one that it replaced. Gibraltar went to great lengths to ensure the brick matched the existing front porch brick, as best as possible, before starting the project. Removal of the existing sidewalk, setting the forms, laying the new brick sides and pouring the new concrete were all done in sequence (timing wise) so that there was no idle time between phases. This made the project move swiftly from beginning to end. The crew working on the project was very courteous and respectful of the property around the work site.
Description of Work: Removed existing 54 ft. residential walkway and installed a new walkway. The new walkway had a row of red bricks on either side and poured concrete in the middle. The concrete had a brushed finish.

It was very good. I'd give them a B because of how the technician put the stuff down. He made a mistake but he fixed the mistake before he finished the job. The cost was very good. Their professionalism was a B because of the tardiness. We were waiting for a response. We had to call them and they said they had the wrong house number or something. I would use them again.

But all for nothing....Gibralter never showed, never returned my numerous phone call requesting they call me, never returned additional Angie's List message. I am requesting a refund through Angie's List. I urge everyone NOT to use this provider. I am so disappointed and frustrated. This was a total waste of my time, gas (to drive out to rental home), and babysitting funds. Now I start over...
Description of Work: Gibralter corresponded with me through AL messages to set up the appointment and advise me of materials (caulk) I needed to provide. I arranged for a babysitter so that I could meet them at the property (a rental) on 9/17/15 at 10 am. The appointment had to be arranged with the tenant through our property manager, so that and arranging a babysitter took quite a bit time to coordinate, plus $30 I paid to our sitter. The tenant allowed us to come out despite challenges in their schedule as well.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. To be honest those big deal coupons we were forced to out those out by Angieslist. We were told we had to run those Big Deals in order to run our own specials for what we really do Which is Remodeling And Construction, we was told this after we had signed up and paid thousands of dollars to them on top of them taking 33 percent of every thing we sold., when we were told in the beginning it would be 3-5 percent. We are no longer doing business with Angieslist. We would happily give you a credit for what you spent with angieslist towards another project that is consdidered remodeling or construction . We will guarantee satisfaction. If you read through the reviews we have never taken money for a project and did not complete the work. Got an email saying they'd be in touch. Never got a call about an appointment. I had selected some dates in the original purchase but never heard from them til after those dates had passed. Thought they might be inundated with calls so I tried to be patient. When I checked back with Angie's list about a refund, I was told it was past the 30 days for a refund. Their lack of response and my patience cost me $99. and some frustration. Not happy. Angie's list has offered some alternate options, but none of them suit what I need, so they are useless.

I purchased the "Big Deal" on July 27th and received an email on July 30th stating "Someone will contact you by Monday to schedule an estimate with you." Finally on 8/10/2015 (while I was out of town on business) I was asked if I was available tomorrow to measure the floor. On 8/20/2015 I got a follow up message and I replied on 8/21/2015 that I was free today (Friday) or most of the next week and provided my cell phone number. On 8/24/2015, they asked if we could meet on Monday at 10am - I replied that mid-day meetings are very difficult for my schedule. Then on 8/27/2015 they asked if I was available the next day at 10am. NO! I can't do mid-day meetings, especially not with less than 24 hours notice. Since the back-and-forth messaging wasn't working, I tried calling and got a voicemail. Finally on 9/02/2015 - I got a text message that they were having trouble going thru Angie's List messages and asked if I was available between 12-2 the same day. Thru back-and-forth texting, we finally worked out an appointment at 2:30 on 9/4/2015. On 9/04/2015, I left work early to be there - and they were a no-show. I texted and called after they were 30 minutes late - no response. Finally at 5:45, after a 3rd text (and two calls that went straight to voicemail) and a message on Angie's List, I received the following response "Sorry my phone died. We are having a problems getting paid from Angieslist.. I would suggest calling them and receiving a refund. My deepest apologies." I have called Angie's List and inquired about a refund - but now I'm outside their 30-day refund window. Needless to say, I'm am not happy all around.
Description of Work: I purchased the $349 "Big Deal" but through repeated attempts - I was not able to contact the provider to get the initial estimate performed.

I bought the deal on 21 July and someone finally answered the phone on 3 August. I told them I wanted my bathroom shower/tub re-caulked and re-grouted. He said no problem and put me on the schedule for 20 August after noon. On that day, at 1pm I called the office to ask when they might be coming. No answer. I left a message asking them to call me back. They never did so I called again at 215pm. Again, no answer, 3pm, no answer finally between 345 or 4pm ish someone answered. The woman said that I was the second person that day to call and say their handyman never showed up. I explained he was supposed to show after noon and I took time off of work to be available. He never showed. She apologized profusely and said she was going to try and get a hold of the handyman and find out why he didn't show. About an hour later, she called back and asked when I might be available to reschedule. I said I don't work weekends. So we agreed for them to come out Saturday morning at 9am. Sat arrives and they guy arrives at 920. I brought him into the bathroom where the work was to be performed. He said the deal I bought is not to recaulk and regrout the entire area. Instead it is only to do small spot fixes. If I wanted the entire thing redone, that is the $349 deal on Angie's List. He says a lot of people have been making this same mistake. I showed him the coupon where it states $99 for three labor-hours of replacing or repairing grout or caulk in your bathroom or kitchen. He said sorry but he can't do anything. So he left. In sum, I am not impressed at all with this company. First I never received a call after I bought this to schedule an appointment, I had to call them. Second, when I did finally get a hold of someone, I told them it was to recaulk and regrout the entire tub/shower. I also told him I bought the $99 deal. He did not tell me that it wasn't the right deal. Three I did not receive any courtesy reminder calls (your appointment is on Thurs at noon. The handyman will call you in the morning to confirm and let you know when he is on his way type thing. Nothing!) Finally, after he did finally show up, and didn't perform any work, the main office has yet to contact me to find out why the job wasn't completed and what they can do to make it right. Not a word. I do not recommend this company. Totally unprofessional, no customer service. Don't do it!
Description of Work: NOTHING!!! When the guy finally showed up, he said what I wanted done, re-grout and re-caulk bathtub and shower, he said that was the $349 deal not the $99 deal. Read the description on their ad. "$99 for three labor-hours of replacing or repairing grout or caulk in your bathroom or kitchen."

I have called Mr. Robert Day at his company # for Gibraltar Group Remodeling and construction with no response from him. He stated he could not start on the roof until Angies List released the funds to him. I took out the contract on July 23, 2015 and in my estimation the frunds should have been released to him. Several messages have been left at his number and still no response from him. I hope Angies List can straighten this out.

HORRIBLE - HORRIBLE. I made an initial appointment but due to a work conflict, I called the day before to reschedule. Robert rescheduled my appointment for Thursday 20 August at 2:30. I would have liked a later time, but 2:30 was the latest available. I took time off from work and was actually home early, so I called to see if it would be easier for them to come earlier - there was no answer, but I left a message. At 2:45 (15 minutes past the appointed time) no one had come and no phone call, so I left another message and finally at 3:30 (one hour later) I called again and some guy named Paul answered. He was rude and made all kinds of excuses. A short time later a lady named Tanisha (Sp?) called and I told her I had taken time off from work to be home and that I just wanted my money refunded. She advised that I had to contact Angie's List. I made no bones about the review I was going to give and she pleaded for me to give them another chance. She said she didn't know where her guy (George) was and it wasn't like him to miss an appointment or that they couldn't get ahold of him. She really wore me down and in reality, I want and need to have this grout issue taken care of, so we rescheduled for today, Tuesday, 25 August at 4pm for the work to be done. Yesterday (Monday, 24 August) at about 4:00 I got a call from Robert asking if we were still on for a 5:30 appointment and I made it clear that the appointment was for tomorrow (today) Tuesday 25th at 4pm. He said he would see me then. So today comes (Tuesday, 25 AUG) and 4:00 came and no George; 4:30 came and no George - so I called and left a message as there was no answer. I called again and someone, it seemed like a child picked up the phone, but no one talked to me, so I hung up, called back again, yet no one answered, but while I was leaving my last message Robert called me. He made excuses, told me that my appointment was scheduled for yesterday, that he had left business cards in my mailbox and front door (lies), but the eerie part was that he described the outside of my home and front. That's just creepy, because I've NEVER had anyone, let alone this company come to my house. This company is in Chesapeake and I'm in Virginia Beach, which is about a 30-40 minute drive. Regardless he argued and argued with me on why no one came today, even though he agreed that we did speak yesterday. I don't know who the owner is (none of these people admitted to being owners), but I want my money back Angie's List and I recommend that you never use this company for any special offers. I've had more bad results from Angie's List companies than positive ones.
Description of Work: NOTHING - absolutely nothing. I purchased a special offering for grout work (3 hours for $99). I have a minor grout project in two showers and around the base of one kitchen counter, so this was a great opportounity.

All the work we have taken money and completed we have earned an A or B rating. Please consider this. Sorry for this inconvenience.

The worker showed up when we had an appointment to EVALUATE the job. He said he never got the message from the manager, he was there to work. He did an hour worth of prep work and we scheduled with manager for worker to come out the following Tuesday.since we had no supplies because it was supposed to be an evaluation visit. Worker was good but he never got the messages. No show, on the following Tuesday, no message other than cost of extra time job would tak when I wrote about no show. No acknowledgment that work had not been completed from original 4 hours. I agreed to additional cost but I NEVER heard back. I have called and I keep getting a recording that the manager is on the other line and phone is busy. No where to leave message pther than the proof of all of this I have in messages. I can produce evidence of all of this in my messages. I feel taken. I don't want to use them, I would like my money back.
Description of Work: one hour of work, prep work for job.

A very polite young man showed up on the 20th to do the work. I showed him the holes that needed to be patched and the areas to paint. He ran to the store and came back and patched most of the holes. He could not remove one of the towel rack brackets and left it. Nice young man but not a very good patch job. He took about 15 minutes and said the painter was on his way. About an hour or so later I got a text asking what time the next day would be good for the painter. I responded with 8:00am. At 9:00am I texted Robert with Gibraltar and asked about the painter. He showed up about 20 minutes later. I showed him the hole that was left(I was able to remove the bracket and had told Robert on the previous day that I would take care of removing it but there would be a hole that would still need to be patched) and the patch job that I was not crazy about. He painted the bathroom, left the hole and painted over the bad patch. He then painted the garage door and left without a word. I texted Robert about the patch and the hole and he asked who left the hole and I have not heard from him again. The garage door looks very nice and the bathroom paint job is very nice except for the hole and the bad patch.
Description of Work: There were some spots in the bathroom that were patched and the bathroom walls were painted. The garage door was also painted

We purchased one of Angie's "Big Deals" for up to 100 sqft of concrete repair for our driveway. We worked with Gibraltar Group for over a month to get the repair done. Gibraltar Group did come out for an initial site assessment for which they stated that concrete removal would cost extra - when presented with the "Big Deal" terms, which included concrete removal, they relented. However, since that first site visit, Gibraltar group was scheduled at least three times over the course of the last month to come out and complete the repair, in each instance they simply failed to show up. On the last scheduled appointment, Friday afternoon 21 Aug, they once again failed to show. At about 2pm my wife called and asked if they were still coming, they said yes they would be there in about 20 min. 30 min later they called to say they weren't coming and that we should try to get a refund from Angie's list. I have no idea about the quality of Gibraltar Group's work as they never completed any. However, I would NEVER use this company again, and I will actively refer any friends (whom I want to keep as friends) AGAINST using them.
Description of Work: Failed to keep or cancel appointments; failed to complete any work after over a month

We feel sorry you feel this way. Robert stated he met with you once and followed up with you throughout the process. He also mentioned that he wanted to get your job comepleted, but the concrete distributer canceleb on him twice ,because of the size(.25 of a yard of concrete) of the load. Inoted of prolonging your job any longer he said he suggested you contact Angieslist for a refund. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about you and really wanted to complete your project. It's is normal for the concrete companies to cancel smaller jobs to complete bigger jobs. We hope you reconsider your review of our company, and would love to make this up to you somehow. If you think of something we could please call us and let us know. Have a super Sunday.
