Shortly after purchasing our home, the downstairs heat pump failed. We initially had another HVAC company out to assess the repairs required, as well as to provide a quote for a new heat pump for both the downstairs and upstairs. The contractor did not do any exploratory work - but provided us with quotes for several options for new heat pumps ranging between 10-15k. He also provided and estimate for what it would cost to come back out and diagnose the issue (which was what we asked him to do in the first place). I give this background only to highlight the stark contrast in services for the same problem. Joe, with E.L Sawyer Heating and Air Conditioning was the second company we had out to diagnose the problem. Joe came out the same day we called. He found that a wire had become detached from the unit, and was able to re-attach it so that we had emergency heat. He advised us that the unit needed to be replaced, but not to make any rash decisions, and to call him once we had thawed out and decided on moving forward with the work. We contacted Joe about a week later to have a new heat pump for the downstairs installed. Not only did he install a new heat pump, but he moved the air handler for the downstairs unit from under the house to the garage, and installed a kill switch on the air handler in the attic. He assessed the heat pump for the upstairs and advised that there is no need for it to be replaced at this time. Inside he also noticed that several of the vents covering the return air filters were dated, and replaced them without it being pointed out or asked. I can't say enough good things about Joe and his crew. They genuinely care about fixing the issues at hand and making their customer's happy. Don't let the scarcity of Angie's List reviews deter you from using this company. I would rate them higher than an "A" if it was an option. We will be loyal E.L. Sawyer Heating and Air Conditioning customers as long as Joe is at the helm. This is a genuinely good and honest business.

I was recommended E.L. Sawyer by my in-laws. I couldn't be happier. They were prompt, honest, REASONABLE, and didn't try to "talk me into something I didn't need". Their estimate was about 50% cheaper than the competition--and we got multiple estimates. The owner, Joe, and his son did most of the installation. They worked on my 100 year old home on the hottest days of the year. From start to finish, job took 4 days. To save me money, they asked if I wanted to replace the deck that the units sit on (they would have to sub the job out, costing me more money). The deck took a few hours, but it was worth the savings. The guys cleaned up every day after they worked and were always courteous, even when my 3-year-old wanted to "help"... I will recommend E.L. Sawyer to everyone I see that needs heating and air conditioning work. I also had Joe come back and look at my boiler to tune it up for the winter. Came next day, fixed it up with new injectors and a good thorough cleaning. 1 hour of labor and about $50 in parts. Couldn't be happier.

The Joe Lawson group (E L Sawyer), under Joe's ownership and management, is trustworthy, professional, highly knowledgeable and skilled, personable and respectful. We have been associated with Joe for over 20 years, without a hitch. Unfailingly, Joe's group is available to us no matter what. After flawless installations, they thoroughly maintain our heating and cooling systems in tip top working order, anticipating and recommending areas for improvement. Customer service is the best and we expect to continue doing business with Joe. It goes without saying that we highly recommend him.

This company fixed our downstairs A/c unit as part of a home warranty coverage for whichwe had a $75 deductable. I don't know what the total charge for the warranty company will be. I called Virginia Surety when the a/c stopped working and asked that this company be used. We had used them before under similar circumstances. I was deployed last summer and they were called twice by my wife. Once again, Joe (owner?) was very courteous and dispatched Damon to our house within about thirty minutes! This in light of a busy heat wave in our area and at peak demand for them. Damon, once again provided quick, professional and great service replacing a blown capacitor, adding another in line capacitor (to decrease the risk of recurrent problems) and topping off the freon. He also checked our other unit for free. He gave me great advise on preventive maintenance. What a rare joy in this industry!!!! .

They did everything exactly as they said they were going to. The estimate never changed and the quality of the work was great. Being trustworthy and professional are some things that stood out.
