Chesapeake Well And Pump Service Inc

Our closed loop Geo Thermal was leaking at the pump. The leak was noticed on Friday after 5pm. I called many different companies, most were unavailable until Tuesday - Thursday. I received a few high estimates, but still no one was available. I did come across a few companies who suggested I call back Monday. Geo Thermal service / repairs for closed loops are few, but many suggested referrals. I had Chesapeake Well & Pump Service on my list, and they were also on my realtor's list, as well as a referral from other Well companies. Mr. Steven Vanhorn asked a lot of questions over the phone, gave an estimate over the phone, and even offered to come on a Sunday morning (since it snowed and has been very cold over the weekend as he does not usually work weekends). He called Sunday morning letting me know when he would arrive, and arrived exactly on time. He walked through with me location of the leak, the cause, and solution. He was very thorough, polite, and even cleaned up the work area. Mr. Vanhorn is a true gentleman and we are very grateful he was able to come on such short notice over the weekend. Within an hour or so he had fixed the leak, had the heat back up and running, and stayed to ensure everything was running properly. The invoice was also within the amount estimated over the phone, which was less than any other quote I received. Mr. Vanhorn was fair, professional, and a very pleasant person. We are going to keep his number and hope to work with him on another well project in future.

From the first time I met Steve, he was very short with me and had this condescending tone with me. I had purchased my first new home and didn't know that irrigation systems had to be winterized. I was never told that I had to do this when the weather got cold. Once Steve came out he looked at it and saw that my back flow needed to be replaced because it had burst. I distinctly remember him telling me that we would come out when the weather warmed up and take care of it for free. Now when someone tells you that, you don't easily forget it. So sure enough I called him about a month later and first thing he tells me is that it costs money. I didn't even mention anything about the price yet. I simply told him who I was and that he had come out to place earlier. He said he remembered me and went right into telling me that it was going to cost money. Now why would he go ahead and mention the money if I didn't even say anything about that yet? Hmmm.. So of course I tried to refresh his memory and tell him that he had told me he was going to do it for free and before I could finish he begins exclaiming that he did not say that. Boy was he adamant about it too. It was almost comical hearing him go irate. I simply told him that if he could honestly say that he didn't offer the work for free then I'd let it go. Of course he still denied it so I said I ok, but that I was going to go with someone else. Of course he began to get upset again claiming that he never said anything about doing free work, but its funny that I remember the exact opposite. When someone says they are going to do something for free, you don't easily forget it. Then again I guess if you are the one who said it, you would "easily" forget it. Needless to say, Steve is the company president. If that's how the company is run, then I would rather do business with someone else even if they are more expensive. Money is not an issue for me...its character and Steve, my friend, you just showed me yours. On a side note most of my sprinkler heads on the borders of my lawn are facing my neighbors' yards....Good one Steve!
