Air Handlers Mechanical Heating & A/C

It was fine. He did a really good job with everything else. They tried hard to sell a program but we're not very comfortable with that. We did purchase something. It's the only downside.

Air handlers arrived a couple minutes after 9am and completed the install at about 5:20 pm. They were professional and courteous. They didn't waste time on the job, and the few times where they had difficulty or got stuck, they called for help to make sure it was done right which i greatly appreciated. The new Carrier AC is running great so far and i can feel the difference in cooling with the new system compared tot he old. They did the work they said they were going to do at the quoted price. I am very happy with the whole process and the prodcut so far.

Cedric from Air Handlers is truly a big asset to this company. He was professional, sincere and patient with answering my many questions. Cedric was a take-charge person who had the answers and means to determine exactly what was wrong with my system that was installed by another company not even a year ago. .I sought out a new provider because I lost trust in the company who made the install, gave me the run-a-round and never returned my many calls and voice mails. I never felt so comfortable with a service provider. Cedric was precise and had a keen knowledge about his type of work. I heard a degree of respect and integrity about his boss-that was a rarity! I intend to use Air Handlers for my every heating and cooling need. I wish I found this company sooner.

Cedric was able to find the problem after we had had a hard time with another HVAC provider. He came after working hours so we didn't have to take time off of work. He found the problem and gave a price that was fair. We would definitely use this provider and Cedric again for future repairs.

The service turned out just fine. Actually, they charged me more than the $49 Big Deal because there was a misunderstanding about what the Deal was. I was talking about one thing. I said that it was basically for an AC tune-up and they said that it was for a diagnostic if something was wrong. I asked what the difference was and she said $20 per unit. So, it ended up being $40 more. The language of the ad was a little bit dubious. What I was trying to get was not what they were doing. Price-wise, it was fine, but the language changed the whole concept.

Our AC wasn't working and after inspection, Cedric explained everything and talked through my options. I didn't feel pressure to do one option over the other. He added refrigerant to the system, which has a small leak. We talked about what that means and what will happen in the future so I could know what to expect in terms of repair/replacement costs. Before arrival, Cedric called to let me know he was on his way. He is very polite and answered all of my questions easily. Also it was quick service. I called on Thursday afternoon and they fit us in for the next day. I do have a service contract with them and so that gives me 20% off the refrigerant. The service call was $89.

I was undecided as to how to rate this experience overall. On the one hand, he was prompt, courteous, clean and efficient. The problem was simple, a blown fuse inside of the unit. On the other hand, after making the diagnosis, he tacked on a huge additional charge for trivial replacement of this item that costs pennies. I was blown away that the "repair charge" was even a thing, much less that the add-on exceeded the entire Angieslist package price. I would have no problem paying more money if the repair were complex or if a replacement part cost any significant amount of money. To be sure, that would have been fair. This was neither complex nor cost more than pennies. It would be comparable to having the doctor tell me that the spot on my arm is infection and that now I also have to pay a separate additional "treatment fee" of $60 for him to give me the paper prescription for a salve to take to my pharmacy. Who would find that acceptable? Since I paid my initial fee for the work he did, including locating the problem and explaining the repair, I should have had to pay no more than the pennies for the fuse.

Was supposed to be a diagnostic AC service. They sent an email Wednesday morning (6/17) asking me to call because appointments were filling fast. Called early afternoon (6/17) and told they couldn't get to me until Tuesday of the following week. Can't wait that long dealing with hot temperatures and a malfunctioning AC unit.

I originally purchased the $49 diagnostic coupon because my AC was not working. They were not able to schedule until the following week because they had a number of appointments. (It was during that stretch of warm weather we had). I scheduled but could not wait (did I say it was hot!) and had someone else come out and fix it. I called and ask if I could instead take advantage of the $69 AC inspection special they had and they agreed. Kevin( I hope I remembered his name correctly) came out doing the scheduled time. He was very knowledgeable and respectful ( he wore the blue booties so not to track mud inside my house). My AC setup was a little unique and he took the time to explain it to me. In addition, I found out my AC unit is cooling much better than expected. He did not try to push any unnecessary services. He came across as honest. He explained I should probably get my coils cleaned and provided the cost but also told me about their maintenance plan which could be a better deal. I appreciated his honesty so much, I'm probably going to buy a maintenance plan. He is a good representative for the company. I also want to acknowledge Lindsey. She was so nice every time I called (which was a few times). I have used companies on Angie's list that did the work but I was not impressed to write a review for various reasons. Not the case with this company.

This is the second time we have used these guys, they came and fixed our heater this winter and now the ac, yeah I know both went out in the same year... We decided to buy that seasonal check up plan. They will come out that the start of the season and give the heater or ac some preventative maintenance. These guys are good!!

I hade this highly efficient system installed in my 1927 home in Norfolk about 8 years ago. The upstairs zones stopped heating or cooling. I hired the company that originally installed the system to come out and make the repairs. The original company charged ~$800 for parts and labor but was not able to keep the system running. (see my Angie's list review for those guys) I purchased a trouble shoot and repair thru AL for Air handler's. I described to them the difficulties with the previous company. Air Handlers sent out one of their owners who was familiar with my unique system. He identified the problem as a failed tempura sensor in the air handler, ordered the part, installed the part in a couple of days and the system is up and running again. Let my summarize: My system was broke. Air Handlers fixed it. A+ !!! Regards, Matt

Went well. Although I was able to replace the failed sensor myself, they told me exactly what the problem was. Professional, informative and on time.

On time-Good price-Did not clean up after welding.

I used an Angie's List coupon for a diagnostic check on my gas package unit from Air Handlers Mechanical Services Inc. My 8 year old gas package unit will not come back on after the thermostat is put in the off position unless the cover is removed and the reset button is pushed. The technician arrived between the hours that were quoted to me. He introduced himself as Cedric and asked me to explain what was going on with my unit. I told him about the issue and that another company had been out twice and could not find the problem. The other company also told me the gas-pack should probably be replaced due to age. Cedric spent about an hour checking over the different components and wires and discovered a melted wire that was causing a short . Cedric made the repair and told me the unit did not have to be replaced and that it was in good shape. Cedric checked to make sure the unit was functioning properly in both the heat and a/c mode and then explained to me about Air Handlers Mechanical Services preventive maintenance program. I chose to pay for the preventive maintenance, which Cedric explained would be done on a different day and that someone from the office would contact me. The next day I got a phone call to set up my appointment. On the day of my scheduled appointment I was happy to see Cedric again and yes he did arrive between the times quoted to me. Cedric asked me to look at the coils which had obviously not been tended to in quite a while and they were filthy. He used a cleaning agent to remove the grime and then showed me a piece of newspaper and a bunch of leaves he had already removed from inside the unit. After cleaning the coils he checked some of the A/C components and discovered the capacitor was not functioning at full capacity. Cedric recommended replacing the capacitor, which I did, because knowing my luck it would have quit working in the middle of July on the hottest day. You may read this and say your Angie's List coupon ended up costing you money, but I look at it more like it saved me money. My unit is running more efficiently now which will save me money in the long run. My experience with Air Handlers Mechanical Services was nothing but positive. The office staff is very pleasant and accommodating and the technicians arrive between the hours quoted. Cedric was very personable and professional. I liked the fact that he wore a company work shirt with his name on it rather than a ratty tee shirt. He was knowledge about his job and took the time to explain to me what he was doing rather than making the repair and rushing on to his next appointment. Cedric seems to enjoy his job and provided excellent customer service.

They were on time and very informative. Told me the approximate life of the unit since it is old. The price of the job was slightly more than the diagnostic coupon that I bought, because they actually had to fix something, but the total price was not unreasonable for what they had to do.

Everything turned out fine. The technician was nice and he came earlier than expected. He called before he came and asked if he could come earlier. He was straight forward with us.

We are not totally satisfied with that service and we will probably never use them again. Once they got here, they basically recharged us for the diagnostic telling us that that diagnostic went straight to Angie’s List. They wanted to recoup their money. This was after they had our A/C taken apart and then said it would be an additional sum to put it back together. They did not fix our unit and they told us that it would be an hourly fee to put it back together. Only one person came out. He was great when he first got here but once he had the unit apart then he changed. He said our unit did not have a diagram on the unit and that was why he was taking so long. They responded very quickly but were not honest.

Prompt professional couldn't ask for more. Would recommend and plan to use for annual service check.

Really went fine. They did what they could with a very old system without immediately pressuring me into buying a new one. System still not working properly shortly after (but they warned me of this due to the age so no real problem there). When system went, I went with another company to replace, but that was solely based on known referral from friend and coworker.

Kevin was very thorough and very professional, he showed on time take a tour of my entire AC system immediately identifying the problem and suggesting some course of action, he made some valuable recommendation for fixing a leak he detected, he was courteous, knowledgeable and meticulous. i will definitely call them back in i needed to.
