My mother is recently widowed, dad died July 9, and wanted to have her yard cleaned up. She only called Affordable (ha ha) Cuts and the owner quoted her a price of $2300. He took down two sections of split rail fence (45 years old)that was so rotted my six year old could have knocked it down, cleaned out three flowerbeds, trimmed a few bushes, and removed a compost pile. About a half a days work at most. They didn't even haul the stuff away..they left it on the curb for trash pickup. He didn't cut the grass or clean up the area where a wood pile use to be. Some of the poles from the compost pile were dropped and left in my mother's backyard. My husband took pictures of this sorry job. I just want people to know to beware of this company. I called the owner and told him that I did not appreciate him taking advantage of my mother but all he said was that she agreed to the price. He did the bare minimum for the maximum price. Such a shame. My mother is living on a fixed income. Will report this to the BBB too. I placed this review on NextDoor and David Williams called my mother and told her that he was going to sue me for defamation of character getting my mother upset. My husband called him to tell him not to call his mother in law again and he was so rude my husband hung up on him. He did tell my husband that he had 30 man hours in the job. If you divide $2300 by 30 that equals $76.67 per hour for UNSKILLED LABOR...who gets that kind of money??? Do not call this company....HE IS A TOTAL RIPOFF AND SCAMMER!

Response from Affordable Cuts
Although we did work for the mother, we did not have any dealings with the individual leaving this review. A lot more work was done than explained in the review and when David spoke with the mother she was pleased with the work performed.

During one of our recent storms a limb came down out of a tree and landed partially on my house and partially on the main power line to my house. After calling 3 others and having to leave messages and then on callback being told that there was a minimum fee that was pretty expensive I called Affordable Cuts. The phone was answered and after texting a pic of the damage I was given a quote that was much lower than the others "minimum fee". The guys came when they said they would and removed the limb from my house and cut it up. The crew was super nice and very professional. Also it was pouring rain at times while they worked. I cannot stress how much I appreciated the attitudes and quality of the work these folks did!

The job was completed while I was at work so I did not witness how it was performed. While I am satisfied with the trim job on the trees, I was not pleased that the mature azaleas near the trees were damaged by limbs allowed to fall down on them. 2 azaleas had half the bush broken away which will probaboly not grow back in. I also feel in retrospect that I overpaid for the work done. I wish I had obtained addtional estimates for this work before contracting.
Description of Work: Trim several storm damaged limbs and open the canopy of 2 maple trees. Minor trim on 2 addtional trees of limbs overhanging house.

They were all very good. My overall experience with them was very good. They were punctual. They were very, very careful to get everything done exactly right. The manager was always explaining what he wanted to do and why. Then when they got finished, he came back one or two times just to make sure that the brick was looking right and everything that we wanted was done right. They were conscientious. They know what they're doing. They want it done right. They were very hard workers. I guess, in general, just the overall job looks so good. I didn't think the price was too high.
Description of Work: I used Affordable Cuts. We had some tree work and some other kind of work, landscaping and things like that. I last used them two weeks ago. He came in and did some brick work and landscaping work. He cut down a tree or two and pruned everything up. He put down a brick sidewalk and put down a brick patio. We'd already had another group of guys come by and do some trees. I would guess with Affordable Cuts, it must've been in the $6500 range. He did run some pipe beneath the ground for the rain gutters and ran a pipe so it would go behind the fence into a small, small creek.

In summary, I don't believe this project could have gone any better. David's professionalism, on-time performance, quality, attention to detail, willingness to go the extra mile, as well as other attributes, were significant factors in the success of this endeavor.
Description of Work: In February 2011, our 93 year old father passed away. He lived in a beautiful home in Virginia Beach VA. It is surrounded by lagoons on three sides and is a five minute walk to the ocean. Unfortunately, for many years, he did not maintain the grounds or the house; the place was a mess. My sister and I are the executors of his estate. I live in New Jersey and she lives near Richmond. Our challenge: to find a business that could bring this property back to the point where we could sell it and do it with little oversight from either of us. By sheer dumb luck, we called David Williams; thank God we did. Over the past year, he has done an amazing job; on time and on budget. First the grounds. Everything was overgrown and that was the least of it. We agreed on a plan and David and his crews went to work. From the shrubbery, undergrowth and trees David took out approximately 100 truck loads of debris. He repaired a 600 foot bulkhead and back filled it and other places with 80 tons of top soil. He removed a large stand-alone deck that was beyond repair as well as old sheds and fences; planted many shrubs; installed a sprinkler system, brought in gravel for a 340 foot driveway, etc. I could go on but the point is, he performed a miracle as far as I’m concerned. The property is stunning. Second, the house. My sister and I knew the house was in disrepair; we just did not know how bad it was. There was major water damage in a number of locations; the foundation required major repair; the kitchen and bathrooms had to be renovated; a large sun room required substantial work (repair water damaged walls and ceilings, install a tile floor, etc.); the interior had to be painted; new carpeting laid and much, much more. As he did with the property, David transformed this house – he did a magnificent job. As I mentioned above I live in New Jersey; it’s an 8 hour to Virginia Beach. My sister lives and works near Richmond, as a result, it was critical that we could trust the folks we hired for this project. Going into it, I believed we would need various businesses to do all that was required. One of the great things about David is that he’s one-stop shopping – he can do it all. If you live in Virginia Beach, Hampton Roads area, Chesapeake, etc. and you need work done, do yourself a huge favor and call him. One more thing: Over the years, I have had a lot of work done on my own home and no one compares to David. Also – the house just went on the market. Enough said.
